  • "Food, ambiance, service, and attention to theater/opera curtains make this an elegant evening out."

  • "Excellent food! Service was good, ambience (marina boats) pleasant -- would go there again."

  • "I think this is the best restaurant in Marina Del Rey. I recommend it. Richard."

  • "I've been to Cafe del Rey many times and love it. This most recent visit I brought my fiancee and co-worker and we had a great time. The service was attentive and thoughtful, I really appreciate that our waitress poured us a taste of the Zinfandels that were available by the glass to help us decide which bottle to go with. The Beef Tartare was memorable and my Barramundi main course was worth going back for. Most of the seating has a view of the Marina and it was a Monday night so we have a lovely table right against the glass."

  • "Cafe Del Rey gives the impression of fine dining by it's decor and ambiance. The views of the harbor are also amazing however not the only restaurant where these views can be seen. We went to Cafe Del Rey two times to see if maybe the first time was just a fluke. The first time around we ordered the lobster risotto. It was very bland...extremely bland. It tasted like plain oatmeal my mother used to try to feed me when I was little and the consistency was very close as well. The lobster was over cooked, it had a rubbery texture to it. The second night that we went I ordered the filet. I ordered it medium. The middle of the filet was cooked perfectly however I'd say the other half (around the edges) were beyond dry and inedible."

  • "Ordered the salad with Salmon. I asked the waitress what was in it because there are certain things I don't eat in salad...tomatoes, cucumbers. The the menu did have a list of ingrediants, and they weren't listed, but I wanted to check and asked. The waitress confirmed they weren't in the salad, so I thought I was good and could rely on the menu and didn't inquire about anything else. Beautiful salad came and it was loaded with Cilantro. I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE ALLERGIC OR JUST CAN'T STAND CILANTRO. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS AN INGREDIENT ON THE MENU. OTHERWISE ALL WAS GREAT AND MY LUNCH GUEST ENJOYED HER MEAL VERY MUCH."

  • "A colleague from Chicago was in town; he's very discerning about food preparation... a foodie's foodie. He raved about his meal, and the fabulous service. We had work to do before and during the meal, and the staff was very respectful of our needs. They were attentive without being disruptive, and made sure that we both felt very welcome in the bar and in the restaurant. The hostess went out of her way to display her genuine pleasure for our choosing "her" restaurant, and the wait staff were as friendly and professional as any I've encountered. It is my go-to restaurant to entertain clients when I'm in that area."

  • "The service was excellent and our waitress very knowledgeable and friendly. Kudos to the chef! Everything was amazing. I had the potato leek soup, scallops and panna cotta. All were gorgeously presented and layered with flavors in a thoughtful way. I love that the dishes were portioned well, leaving room for dessert. The scallops were perfectly cooked...I mean perfectly. I wanted to try everything on the menu!!!"

  • "We were celebrating two birthdays. We all had the bento box. It included a fennel salad, fried grouper with French fries, steak with potatoes au gratin and a risotto with truffle oil. As usual, the quality and the preparation of the food were outstanding. We just were disappointed to have fried fish and French fries together. Also a lot of carbs on the plate, which never happened to us before. Still we did enjoyed our meal and will definitely come back."

  • "The food was good. The servers were excellent. The view at sunset was magnificent from the terrace. Nothing "young and hip" about it. A nice place for the middle aged (like me) to relax and watch the boats."

  • "Attentive service. Food is good but not great. Somewhat pricy. You are paying for the view of the marina. Interior decor needs refreshing. I'd not been here in over ten years and was struck by how worn the chairs and booths looked."

  • "I recently enjoyed celebrating my friends' birthdays at Cafe Del Rey. Our waitress went all out to make sure our evening was memorable and relaxing. We began with focaccio served with an olive tapanade. After the waitress explained the dinner choices, we all ordered a different fish. All of the dinners were presented like art objects. My scallops were grilled to perfection and the potatoes actually did melt in my mouth. My companions were equally happy with their dinners of salmon and capio. The delicious desserts included the tangerine flan and the lush berry pie with maple ice cream. Thank you for taking such good care of us. We will definitely return."

  • "I so wanted a place that would be my regular spot, but the overworked wait staff pretty much ended that hope. Really good food and drink spoiled by the service. It's not the waiters fault, it's management. Always management."

  • "Come here for a beautiful view of Marina del Rey harbor and excellent service. That said, if you're looking for delicious food, this is not the restaurant for you. The food was just fair. When I got in my car, the valet had left a cute little white box on the dashboard. I thought it was such a lovely touch until I opened it up and found three bite size brownies, all (truly) hard as rocks and unedible. WIth such a lovely scene and caring servers, I so hope this restaurants would seek to improve its food."

  • "We came this weekend for a friend's birthday .. it is a LOVELY place to entertain one's family and friends. Our servers and the staff are happy, upbeat, sweet, giving -- wanting to do anything to please. What could possibly be better than that? Nothing... that's why we are ALWAYS at Cafe del Rey. Special thanks to Melissa B., Jan, Fabrice, Craig and actually the whole team!"

  • "I had not been to Cafe Del Ray in 10 years and was eager to share the experience with three colleagues who had never been there. The food was good - Salmon was delicious. A colleague had the chicken, and her dish was lackluster in color, and the butternut squash was hard. The service was slow. We arrived at 6:30 and our servier took drink orders. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks and take appetizer and entree orders. We did not get our entrees until 8:30. The server told us that was because our order was put behind a bourbon dinner that was being held in the restaurant. Bad explanation. I will not return to Cafe Del Ray after this disappointing and rather embarrassing experience for me, as i pushed my colleagues to come with me."

  • "I took my intrepid team of software engineers here for lunch because it seemed like a nice place, judging by other reviews, and was close to the office. I had no problem making a reservation for the eight of us, and they had our table ready when we arrived. Our server, Melissa, was helpful and attentive throughout our visit. We mostly ordered various salads, soups and sandwiches, but two selected entrees. Everyone really enjoyed their food. My grilled cheese and tomato soup was perfect. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the desserts. They cost about as much as the entrees, or more, and none of them are chocolate! We elected not to order any of them, so I can't say if they're worth the price, which is around $15."

  • "Another lovely luncheon at Cafe del Rey, and if you can believe it, we already have reservations for a week from yesterday! Believe me, we try other places too, but we always come back here -- for the people, the service, the view and the food. Thanks Cafe del Rey and its people! WE LOVE YOU!"

  • "My wife and I go to Cafe del Rey often and we have out of town guests who insist that this is one restaurant that we go to. We left after our last visit feeling that it was time to look for another "go to" place. The menu descriptions are over done to make a point that the food did not make. I ordered the short rib fettuccini and it had more braised brussel sprouts than you could imagine. Dish should be short rib WITH fettuncini. Mixed as it was, you could expect to see this dish at the office pot luck and you should pass. The lobster risotto was bad and the lobster was difficult to find or taste. We sat in the paito/annex for the first time on our last visit. If this is where you will be sitting, leave. It is cold and unappealing."

  • "I have been going to Cafe Del Rey for years because of the wonderful ambience & the food has usually been good; however, I recently went there with some friends & the food was extremely disappointing. Apparently they got a new chef 3 or 4 months ago & you can really tell the difference in the quality of the food. We knew right away there was someone new in the kitchen. My chicken was dry & the short rib fetticini sounded great but wasn't. The scallops were good -- definitely the best of the three entrees. The manager was nice enough to comp us a dessert, but that didn't make up for the disappointing meal. I would suggest waiting to go to this restaurant until either they get another new chef or this one raises his standards!"

  • "It was my first time there and for the most part it was great. It was my friend's birthday and she was surprised to see "Happy Birthday ****** on the menu; a very nice gesture. The food was excellent although the server could have been a bit more attentive with re: to refilling the water and tea."

  • "We had made reservations and were lucky to have a table with a beautiful view. The brunch was very good and the service very attentive. My tomato soup was very tasty and my poached salmon salad was delicious. It included mimosa or bloody mary and dessert."

  • "We went on a Friday night at 6:30PM. The staff was very friendly and accommodated a request I made on the Open Table reservation form. I was looking for some place smaller in the hopes that it would be quieter, but at 6:30 this place was packed and LOUD. However the food and service were great and it seems that nearly every table has a view of the Marina."

  • "I went to this restaurant with a date (on a Tuesday night) and was impressed by the decor, ambience, and the view. The waiter was very attentive, let us chat, asked if we wanted wine, and was great about taking our order, serving the appetizer and main course. HOWEVER, let me caveat this (it was a Tuesday night, the restaurant was not busy, and there were at least 25 open tables) I cannot tell you how many times the waiter and all the other wait staff asked to take away my companion's plate when she was NOT finished. Even though I finished my entree, she is a slow eater and was slowly picking at her food. One time the wait staff even asked her if they could take her plate when she had a fork-full of food in between her plate and mouth.)"

  • "Cafe del Rey is a local restaurant we try to go to at least once a month. The brunch menu is excellent; the daily menus are everything one could be looking for! But, I must admit that really the biggest reason is the service and the staff. From the hostess [Jan], to the management team [Fabrice and Craig], to our marvelous server, Melissa, we feel like we are visiting family [I mean, the part of the family that one actually likes!]. Last weekend we had a truffle pizza for our first time - incredible - along with lovely flowing sparkling wine, Bloody Mary's, and everything that truly anybody could be seeking in a relaxing brunch, seated next to our wonderful marina, by the most gracious staff ever to be encountered. Thank you all."

  • "We went there for brunch and had a lovely time. The brunch prix fixe menu had a lot of tasty options and was reasonably priced for the quality of food. I had a delicious crab cake and classic eggs Benedict - followed by a rich brownie for dessert. The food all tasted fresh and seasoned nicely. The only negative was that the service could be a bit more attentive. All in all it was very good, we will definitely be returning again."

  • "We had a family lunch with cousins we had not seen in 15 years. Cafe Del Rey, recommended by friends who live nearby, was a perfect choice. We were given a window-side table with a beautiful view of the marina. The spacing between the tables kept the noise level down so we were very comfortable with our catch-up conversations. The service did not rush us at all. Everyone agreed that the food was fantastic - from the cheeseburger, to the tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich, to the crab cakes. I had the cold salmon salad and it was perfect. There was lots of salmon, the vegetables were fresh, and the dressing was so light and refreshing - just great."
