Service was at the finest level I have ever experienced- from the front desk to our departure, which even included cookIes left by the valets. Complete customer satisfaction is the ultimate goal of every employee, including a table visit from the chef.

When I went online to check the menu, I saw that if I registered online, Cafe del Rey would give a free wine flight to each person at lunch. I hadn't been to Cafe del Rey in a while, but had enjoyed it in the past. We got an early start and were seated at a window table, overlooking the moored sailboats in Marina del Rey and the channel beyond. The sun set as we dined, and the view of the ever changing light was perfect. My friends had a beet salad followed by sea bass, and I opted for the small Caesar salad and seared scallops. All the food was well prepared, with imaginative seasonal accompaniments. Service was courteous and attentive, but never overbearing. Our waiter knew the menu and, when asked, made sound suggestions. Invariably, I end up staying at LAX my last night to get the 6am flight out. It has become my routine to escape to Marina del Ray the last night for a relaxing dinner. With only a 10 minute drive, it is a completely refreshing experience at Marina, made more special by Cafe del Rey. The last trip, I watched a guy propose (on bended knee) at the next table. This time was my first for lunch with a colleague. Steven was our server and he was personable and professional. We tried the sampler entree special - CDR has a fancier name that I cant recall, but it is essentially a big square plate with four smaller squares - tapas style but for one. We called in to advise we will be late due to traffic delay. We were told no problem. When we arrived, we were seated immediately by the window with a beautiful view of the marina. They offered a prix fix menu with a good variety. We were offered champagne and the ladies got a rose. Food and service was excellent.
