Diner Reviews
  • "One of Cities best restaurants - a continued treat for any dinner."

  • "was very expensive for 2 people.. close to $100 for us as a couple.. but Food was delicious, so fair trade.. Staff was friendly and seemed like a good crowd.."

  • "The waitress was pleasant and attentive to just right degree. The food was outstanding. The ambience was pleasant and relaxing. Overall, my recent dinner at Cafe Del Rey with old friends that I hadn't seen for a few years couldn't have been more perfect."

  • "Great service, food was yummy! Perfect dining experience. The waiter made me feel extra special with a wine flight to start and a desert with candle to end the evening@"

  • "My wife and I had dinner out without the kids. We had great food. However, there was a large corporate group in the bar, which is immediately adjacent to the dining room so when we were seated far away from the bar, I was relieved. However, 30 minutes later, the entire group entered their "private" room which was located just feet from our table. The door was left open for a long time after their event started and every time the door would open it was super loud. So, looking for what we thought would be a quiet dinner did not turn out that way. We decided not to stay for desert/after dinner drinks - went to another local spot. The food is great, just be wary of a loud bar scene and possible party groups right next to your dinner table."

  • "Whenever I want to invite my guests to the finest restaurant in Marina del Rey, I take them to Café del Rey. The food, service and ambience are great. And yes, they have the finest truffle pizza (an appetizer) that I have eaten anywhere!"

  • "I have been to Cafe del Rey many times. As always, great service and excellent seafood. Watching the sun set on the marina is a special treat. I hope to return there soon."

  • "I have been going to Cafe Del Rey for years for the Sunday Brunch. Unfortunately the food has been very disappointing my last few visits. Even the little muffins were dry and tasteless. Maybe they are just getting them from Ralphs down the street. The service and the ambience is still great, but I don't think I will be going back anytime soon."

  • "Just loved it. We had an appetizer to share (miso fritto) and two different main dishes (bento box and the barramundi). One great red wine by the glass and a beer. The dessert was the home made sorbet. Will come back for dinner next time."

  • "WE chose Cafe Del Rey for convenience as much as food. We were very pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality and great flavors. Our server, Nicole, from Australia, was absolutely great! She did a very professional job suggesting dishes and making sure that everything was perfect for us."

  • "Happy hour bar service, drinks & appetizers were fabulous. Only problem was that we arrived early yet they sat us 40 min late-after our open table reservation."

  • "I had friends coming in from Australia and New Zealand and wanted to pick somewhere special. Cafe Del Rey was the perfect choice. They even assigned an Aussie waitress to our table from a different section! We closed the restaurant down :)"

  • "My husband and I went for our anniversary. I mentioned that in my "notes" section while making the reservation, and they printed a menu for us wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Very thoughtful. Food and cocktails were great too."

  • "My friends and I continue to enjoy the dining experience at Cafe del Rey. We just have to keep coming back for the food, the service, and the positive energy."

  • "Had a chance to catch up with friends we had not seen for quite a while. Food was great and server was attentive but not intrusive."

  • "It took 10- 15 minutes before a server came to our table to take a drink request (and that was after I flagged somebody down)."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch at Cafe del Rey. The food was well prepared and yummy. The service was attentive. I did find it a bit noisy for quiet conversation. I will definitely go back as it is a very pleasant restaurant."

  • "The food was so so. We will not go back. The bar scene was lively, and the bartender great."

  • "Cafe Del Rey is an iconic restaurant in the heart of the Marina! It has always had great food and an amazing view. The staff is warm and inviting. I would recommend it for any event. "

  • "We always enjoy coming to Cafe del Rey ... we get to see our friends, Jan and Melissa and many many others. The food is delish, the service is tops. "

  • "The location is very good; the decor is nice; the lighting is excellent. This was not our first time, but after a couple of years we thought things might have improved, because we like the location. Things are the same: poor, inattentive service: the seemed to have forgotten us, in a half empty room, not unlike last time. The food in my opinion is no more than third rated. This is a place where I would not visit more often than every few years. Too bad, because with the location, this has the potential of being a dynamite restaurant."

  • "Great place to catch up with "old" classmates. Hadn't talked with another classmate since graduating high school (43 years ago) in Indiana. We had a 2.5 hour lunch and were not rushed by waitress or waiter, who said just flag us when you are ready. Lunch was wonderful, the salmon so fresh. Love this place for its food, but the experience of not being rushed was a huge plus. Every time I've been to Cafe Del Rey over the last 20+ years, it is consistently wonderful. Also valet parking is easy."

  • "I was taking a client from out of town here and so advised the maitre'd. Although the client did have a view of the marina, we were seated right next to the kitchen which I did not appreciate. The food was good, not great, as was the service. It was really, really loud in the restaurant. "

  • "I've been here a few times as my son goes to LMU just up the street. Consistently good with an attentive wait staff. Try to go early so you can get a table overlooking the marina. My wife and I started with the wine flights which I recommend. She had the Sonoma Reds and I had the flight of 3 different cabs. All were good. Salads were simple but very fresh. My son's scallops were fabulous. The only issue I had was that my filet mignon was a bit overdone. I had ordered medium rare but it was more medium well. (Certainly not so overdone to return to the kitchen, however). Will go back again, I'm sure."

  • "Very nice diner menu as well as the wine list. Service was good, although our appetizer was served while we were still drinking our cocktail. That's was a pity. The food was delicious!"

  • "We made a reservation for 11:45 and were not sat until almost 45 minutes later. Cafe Del Rey is a very nice restaurant with very good food and service. However, they try to fit in as many customers as possible, especially on holidays, which causes a back up. When we arrived for our reservation on time, there were still at least 10 parties ahead of us still waiting to be seated. Although my mother loved their food choices, she did not appreciate having to wait so long, especially when we had made a reservation in advanced. "

  • "Cafe del Rey was always one of my favorite Marina restaurants. I haven't been there in quite awhile. It was fine, but I feel it has gotten a bit tired and dated. "

  • "We usually stay away from Marina del Rey restaurants. Tried this because it was convenient for 6 of us one Saturday night. While it was really loud until about 9:00 p.m., all 6 of us really liked our meals, and almost every table has a beautiful Marina view. Ever dish was served at the proper temperature, which isn't easy in such a large restaurant. We will definitely go back again, and soon!"

  • "As always, Cafe Del Rey came through with a wonderful meal for myself and two visitors from Moscow. They loved the view of the boats, and the food was as always, up to the Cafe Del Rey standards. The prix fixe brunch is a great idea~!"

  • "Lovely place for a delicious brunch while enjoying a beautiful view. Brunch includes three courses and all the mimosas, champagne, or bloody Mary's you want. For $38, this is quite a bargain. Quality is excellent, service impeccable. Café del Rey is quite the little gem I was hoping it would be for my very first time in Marina del Rey. "

  • "A very nice higher end , trendy, Marina restaurant bar. Perfect for all occasions. Have used it for Business and a few dates; perfect to dine or for just drinks."
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "Attentive and friendly service. Our meal: 1-potato leek soup with Swordfish on a bed of black rice. 2-beet and burata salad with scallops on saffron aioli; incremental unique touches. The scallops were notable in presentation, they sat on top of delicately layered potato pave and the saffron aioli made a spectacular burst of sunny yellow. Beet and burrata salad is a bit of a staple in foody places, so it is hard to compete. This beet and burrata salad is distinguished by a mild and creamy Jerez cheese dressing. My swordfish sat on a bed of celery root mixed with black rice which was set-off by the influence of sweetness from the orange chunks arranged around the edges. We were going to a concert and the check was prompt."

  • "...the dinner menu did NOT have good protein options..we wanted salads and protein options... I had eaten the lamb in the bar area and asked if we could have that..we were told by our waiter AND THE MANAGER that we would have to physically MOVE to the bar if we desired ANYTHING from the bar menu.THE RESTURANT WAS NOT FULL.the cost of the meals would have been similar...and the other items we intended to order were from on the dinner menu...WE WERE REFUSED THE LAMB .. the only other option was a cheesy yucky pizza...we left most of it... THE BAR WAS TOO NOISY WITH THE TV TO engage in meaningful conversation...My guest as well as I live 3 minutes from the restaurant and my husband and I dine there frequently when we get off the yacht....
