Cafe de la PresseTake a trip to ParisWhen in San Francisco, you'll feel like you are in Paris when having breakfast at Cafe de la Presse!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro setting with periodicalsBistro setting with periodicals from either France or the United States, 2 levels and outdoor dining with a traditional bar. Service was challenged because of the time of day - lots of tables were turning over, but our server didn't leave us sit there too long. Dinner was cooked well for all 3 of our diners, one had a wonderful tomato basil soup, one had shrimp salad, and the other had escargo, which was tender and not too chewy. Filet Mignon for all 3 of us for dinner was great! They welcomed substitutes so we each also had what we wanted on the side too! Did not have room for dessert, but did try a nice French Cabernet. We will definitely return to try other menu items in the future!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for lunchThis is my go-to place for coffee and pastries (best croissants btw!) so I thought I'd try lunch. As usual, service is very good. We were seated promptly (it gets busy, reservations highly recommended), and everyone was very nice and attentive. Also, the place was buzzing with diners who seemed to be enjoying themselves. My friend had the escargots, which were good and tender, but needed more garlic. He really enjoyed his quiche Lorraine, though. I had the steak frites, and I loved that my hanger steak was seasoned well and cooked to a medium-rare perfection!
Next time, we're coming for dinner!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant did not have OpenRestaurant did not have Open Table reservation, but had space, so no problem. Server & waitstaff friendly & attentive w/o hovering.
Food very good, & in reasonable proportions. We know New Orleans restaurants, so our saying that we'd eat there again should carry some weight.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love 'Presse; it suitsWe love 'Presse; it suits us to a tee! Very good food, pleasant surroundings, lovely service. We've been many times and will definitely go back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLa deniere nuit en San FranciscoThe food was very good, but it was the server who made the evening great with her special guest care. She discussed the cocktail list with me and delivered two drinks so I could taste more than one item! Merci.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis had to have been oneThis had to have been one of ther best traditional French meals we have ever had!!
It was a busy night for the restaurant but we got in and were seatewd and largely served before a large group arrived...we were served promptly (though drinks were slow in arriving) and all our food was magnificent, from ther frisee salad, the escargots, the duck confit, the apple turnover and the huge cafe au lait...I would return anytime I am back in SF!!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe de la Presse always remindsCafe de la Presse always reminds me of Paris and who wouldn't? The coziness of the cafe and the magazine racks add to the experience. My husband and I both had the smoked salmon benedict and it was delicious. Coffee is dark and strong, just the way I love it. I've taken an out-of-town guest there (it's an easy location for those staying in Union Square or near Market Street) and I'll meet my local friends there too. Check out the great shoe store on the other corner afterwards.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming place. Good menu.Charming place. Good menu. The veg that accompanied each also was excellent. We ordered additional sides of the gratin and green beans. Unfortunately, they were not as well prepared or perhaps held too long and then served lukewarm.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great. Consistent,Always great. Consistent, charming, and delightful. We'll definitely be back!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful dinnerWe had a wonderful dinner and all round good time. We liked the fact that we could sit there and not be disturbed no matter how long we stayed. The sea bass was excellent as was the creme brûlée. Except for not bringing the wine on time, the service was very good. We come back because it is a pleasure to dine at the Cafe.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI always gone by this littleI always gone by this little restaurant and was surprised, first of all, by the fact that it's not that little.
