Cafe ClaudeSuper bistro! Our first night in San Francisco was made even better by this gem-It was our first time at Cafe Claude but it won't be our last-I found it on Open Table-I can always count on you for great recommendations-Snails, roast chicken, crème brulee, all the favorites were prepared perfectly-Thanks!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMParis in San Francisco The Left BanIt was Bogart and Bacall type of night and Shelley was Bacall and I was Bogart, Shelley was singing and it was right out of To Have and Have Not 1941 movie, one of may favorite of all time. Food and music was fantastic, we had stake tartar and tuna greens, the lady I was with has a cocktail and I had double bourbon, Bogart's drink. The next day I was on the schedule to go sub hinting. The music was live and like silk.
Steve5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDate spot- loud jazz, solid frenchServer was attentive and good was better than expected. Not a bad place for a casual dressy date - cute and romantic but not intimate due to noise. Tables are also close but not bad for a pre gatsby event (we were dressed up!)5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMcafe claude is a must visitvery good french food at a very reasonable rate. easy parking on Sunday.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!Been here several times and love it! Wonderful food, service, venue, and atmosphere. .5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for lunchGreat French Bistro in alley off of Bush street. Great place for lunch. Good food and warm atmosphere. Enjoy it everytime I go.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a dream! We had eaten at Cafe Claude many moons ago and always meant to return. We were finally able to do so, and it was just as delightful as we'd remembered. The menu had been trimmed down and there were different offerings, but the food was divine.
Service was perfect. Love this place!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGood AmbienceWe frequently go to Cafe Claude when we are in The City due to it's nice location in San Francisco's "French Quarter" and that it is located in the alley featured in Hitchcock's "Vertigo". The wait staff and menu used to be in French, but now I haven't been waited on by a native French speaker in quite some time. When members of our French family from Provence are in town, when they take us there, they say the food is mediocre and it is a little pricey. But it reminds us of many French restaurants where we have dined in France, so we continue to go.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTucked away on a little knownTucked away on a little known side street in San Francisco. Claude Lane. Feels like being at a Cafe in a small French town.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlley bistro in the heart of SFA great little restaurant just off Sutter near Union Square. Terrific foods, short but excellent wine list. Not too pricey, but very pleasant and a definite repeat.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMCute place in a nice romanticCute place in a nice romantic alley near Union Square. We loved the duck.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Experience in San FranciscoFor the most part, it's easy to get good food in San Francisco. However, at Cafe Claude, there is great food, great atmosphere and excellent service at a significant value. Trevor was our waiter, and he made the night special by suggesting the steak tartare to share. Wow! Made table-side, it was first rate. My husband had the coq au vin and I had the roasted chicken, and we shared the amazingly delicious creamed spinach. Yum! Upscale, sophisticated and fun. The live jazz was a bonus. Next time you're visiting San Francisco, don't miss Cafe Claude!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMa little bit of ParisDown an alley, Cafe Claude is a true find! once you turn down Claude Alley, you have a feeling you've left SF and ended up somewhere in Paris. The food is always perfect, spotlighting layered classic French tastes, there are always great specials in addition! You'll make points if you take a date here.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy go-to place in downtownMy go-to place in downtown SF for business lunches. The food/value is unmet.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my third visit toThis was my third visit to this restaurant. First - this is an exceptional value - high quality food and service at (in San Francisco terms) a reasonable price. The place has a young and energetic feel - but even as an older guy - I found it totally comfortable. Service was exceptionally polite - not in the highly polished way of a more formal restaurant but in a more casual bistro sort of way. I look forward to returning.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. TheyGreat food and service. They were able to accomidate a late change in the reservation. Claude Lane is a funky alley and I don't think I would enjoy eating at the outside tables which are in the alley.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic French BistroA great little French bistro tucked in a romantic alley in downtown San Francisco. Wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. Wonderful meat and cheese selection. Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner for two.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful and delicious!Food was exquisite, drinks delightful and staff cheerful and accommodating. The live music (Shelly McKay, vocals with bass and keyboardist) was fantastic and made thr atmosphere energized and charming. This is my new favorite place in the financial district and will be back soon.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply great consistentlyCafe Claude is one of our favorite spots-- they honor reservation times despite being generally overloaded with wanna be clients and once seated the service is prompt, non-intrusive and supportive. The menu has classics and always something new and clever. The wines are bountiful and affordable . Needless to say those the reasons we love to return again and again. While the weekend music is well done, and no harm intended, the very very loud focalization s could be dropped in favor of gentle piano jazz (like Big Four) with no less enjoyment of the fine food features that Cafe Claude offers.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA night in The CityWe had a fabulous time!! Listening to jazz and enjoy a great beverge while waiting for our table was a special beginning!! When seated we were able to face the music and continue to enjoy the smoothe sounds! Our dinner was an amazing experience!!! We highly recommend the Beef tartare and Lamb shank! Our entire experience was off the charts amazing!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI think this is a very goodI think this is a very good restaurant for special occasions. The service was excellent, the food was really good (I am from Europe and that tasted like proper European food) and the atmosphere was one you'll get in an expensive restaurant. The live music could have been a bit better, and a few times the conversations of the guests were a bit louder than I would like, but overall I think it is a great place.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the first time IThis was the first time I dined there, and it was a good experience. Excellent steak tartare. My only critiism; my companion is a vegetarian and his choices were few/4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place!Never disappointed when we come here to dine. The food is so excellent you can not go wrong here! I want to eat the whole menu!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMClassicAuthentic French menu, French ambiance and French service. It is hidden away in a back alley/sidestreet, which just adds to the charm. A large heated & covered patio takes up the front of the restaurant, and if your group is less than 8 people you can sit in the actual restaurant, which is considerably nicer. Food is comparable to restaurants we have eaten at in Paris, and the presentation is classic. We found the prices reasonable (by Calgary standards), although an English couple we met in our hotel thought it was expensive.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only issue that I had,The only issue that I had, was the table we were given is not what I call a quiet/romantic location, it was the first table by the bar. Other than that the food and service was great!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience overall -Great experience overall - food, service, and ambience3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to dine andA great place to dine and imagine oneself in Paris, except for the very friendly staff. The wine list is fun and I've never been disappointed by the food. Mosly, however, it is the fact that the restaurant is greater than the sum of its parts--it's just a nice place to spend an evening dining.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA downtown gemA last minute reservation but so pleasantly surprised. Very hard to find but worth the effort. Very small but very nice food presented well. . Close to union square but no tourists. Lovely experience. Great for before show. Bar seemed lively.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMShort ribs were outstanding!Short ribs were outstanding! Service, food and wine selection, ALL excelent!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a friend and we had aTook a friend and we had a great time. Good food and nice staff. Live music and a full restaurant, so the place was lively, yet we were still able to follow our conversations.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I eat here everyMy wife and I eat here every chance we get - perfect Union Square lunch spot!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my 3 time coming. This was my 3 time coming. We'll be coming back again again.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food in a fun place with JazzI had a wonderful meal with friends. The pork chop was outstanding, as was the fish - perfectly prepared. Fun and vibrant. Bit squeezed with space at the tables. Too noisy at times.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMRoast chicken was the bestRoast chicken was the best I have eaten in SF!! Service was refined but friendly.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMListened to some great jazzListened to some great jazz with a stand up bass and the food was tasty. Had the steak and a salad and they were both great.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThese guys have it down. GreatThese guys have it down. Great service that knows what they are doing and execute with quiet confidence. Classic bistro but done Ina crisp way. Food is excellent and consistent. Love this place.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHave had lunch here many times,Have had lunch here many times, but needed to find a spot for dinner with a friend staying in union square for a conference. I didn't want to break the bank, but wanted it to be special nonetheless. Cafe Claude turned out to be the perfect choice. The friend had the duck, I had the coq au vin, my husband had the roast chicken, and we shared brussels sprouts and fries. The fries were just so-so, but everything else was stellar! We ordered wine by the glass and the selection was great. I actually enjoyed dinner here more than my lunches, and I will definitely go back! By the way, the seating is not the most comfortable but it added to the ambience. Our server was great too.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, atmosphereWonderful food, atmosphere and service. One of our favorite places in San Francisco.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing restaurant! Jazz musicAmazing restaurant! Jazz music on Fridays, warm patio every night, wonderful food3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood place fot dinner, goodGood place fot dinner, good food, the only detail was that the waiter never tolds us the sodas didnt have refills and we find out at the moment she bring the ticket..3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about this placeEverything about this place was great. We'll definitely be going back. We will not, however, be ordering any more martinis from the bar. They are at best a 3.5 oz pour and quite pricey. Tastey, but the tiniest martinis we've ever had. Would not recommend outdoor dining, as this retaurant is situated at the end of a long dark alley along with several others. But quite cozy inside. Doesn't start getting busy until 7ish.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerSecond time here. Great service, very attentive. My water glass never got below 1/2 filled. The cod soufflé was excellent, and tried the pork chops, cooked perfectly. Wife had the braised short ribs a Sunday special, again perfectly prepared. We tried some wines by the glass, our waitress was able to describe the nuances of each and was on the mark with each one. We don't get to San Fran much but when we do will keep Cafe Claude in our dining plans.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food--texture, taste,Excellent food--texture, taste, presentation Tables a bit close--conversation not private A bit disorganized 5:30-6:00 PM: we had dinner reservations for 5:30, then informed we could sit down, but no food service until 63/9/2013 12:00:00 AMdelicious dining at a charmingdelicious dining at a charming bistro with attentive and friendly device.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe keep coming back for theWe keep coming back for the great food, wonderful service and jazz.
