Diner Reviews
  • "Good French comfort food, nice welcoming service, could have a conservation and actually hear my dining partner. Wine prices too high!"

  • "I love Cafe Claude downtown - vibrant, elegant, live music - a good, stay late and have another glass of champagne energy. The Cow Hollow location is beautifully decorated and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. The crowd was no where to be found however. Well, actually, they were all at Eastside West enjoying beer specials and nachos. The food was OK. My dinner partner and I both shared the Beignets as an appetizer. After, my Salad Provencale could not compare to the Nicoise salad downtown. It was a few pieces of tuna and a mountain of arugula. My guest had a salad of mostly green beans and cucumbers and the beans seemed completely raw. All in all, we agreed that we should have ordered burgers."

  • "We've gone to Cafe Claude for years but only a couple of times since they've moved to the Marina. It's nice to have them nearby since we live in the Marina and find parking at the downtown cafe difficult. This restaurant is delightfully unpretentious - like the lovely restaurants in every neighborhood throughout France. The prices are VERY reasonably for the quality of the cuisine. The service is spectacular."

  • "We have eaten at Cafe Claude - Marina twice and love it! The menu is small and the dishes beautifully executed. The service is just right - very personable and attentive without hovering. The decor is lovely - pieces have been collected from Parisian bistros and they have re-constructed the perfect environment."

  • "We had been to Cafe Claude on the east side of SF, so before the opera decided to go to the nearer Cafe Claude on Greenwich. On a Tuesday night, and early, it was understandably quiet. Top marks for delicious food and service. We will return."

  • "Very much enjoyed the Bouillabaisse here, very good service, quiet spot, both with indoor and outdoor sitting. Prefer the outdoor setting as indoor was too dark for me."

  • "Service was great and fried sardines was delicious."

  • "Very friendly with good and friendly service. Our waitress had a great sense of humor and knew the menu and wine list extremely well. However, food was very very slow to arrive with only three other tables being occupied the evening we were there. Quiet, peaceful atmosphere in a cozy and warm dining room. Food portions moderate and with relatively high prices given quantity and quality. Pretty limited menu. The people are very nice, would really like to see the menu expand a bit, the pace pick a bit, and the prices a bit lower with an expanded wine list with a few more choices especially at the moderate price range (say $30-40). Want this place to succeed."

  • "An over-priced salad, a tasteless flat iron steak, and gutless wines...we won't be coming back unless it is for the crispy fries and moist roast chicken (Tuesdays only)."

  • "dined at Claude downtown, had to try the marina location to compare. food and menu selection are similar between the the two locations, but i LOVED the ambiance of the marina location, which has old school charm. dark wood and red velvet burnout. the wine list is extensive, one is sure to find something to whet their whistle. a must order item : steak tartare!!"

  • "This little bistro is decorated with fixtures and furniture taken from cafes all over Paris. The menu is small and everything is cooked to order and to perfection. I had the trout which was sublimely flavorful. We shared a lovely French red. The service was ideal - just there when we needed something, but not hovering. We will definitely be back."

  • "This restaurant looked like a typical neighborhood spot. Very casual, friendly folks in the small space. The food was excellent and wonderfully prepared and very french. "

  • "The menu is limited, but that's a good thing: the food is well prepared and the service is attentive. The place is spacious and quiet, but we had to ask them to turn down the music because we go there for the quiet ambience."

  • "A delightful, tasty birthday dinner for my bride. If we live long enough, we'll be there again next birthday -- and hopefully many times in between."

  • "Had a wonderful time here with friends. Everything was nearly perfect. Great service...until the end when we were totally ignored for a very long time. Don't they want us to pay? It's late!!! Food very good overall (fried sardines and steak tartare both very good), but sadly my duck was overcooked. A little slow to come out too. Loved the wine recommendation. Overall, nice experience and we would come back. Though the other cafe Claude has music and that tends to draw us to that one instead. "

  • "This was the 3rd or 4th time I've eaten here and each time it keeps getting better and better. It's definitely one of the better eating establishments in the Marina/Cow Hollow area. Excellent service provided by Anna; Michelle, the manager, makes you feel welcome and at home. Extremely clean and well-maintained, with a distinct Paris-Old World atmosphere. Food is top quality (great chef), nice sized portions and beautifully presented. We had Bouillabaise (Friday special), Steak Frites, and Petrale Sole for entrees - all memorable, served hot, and freshest ingredients. Salads and Onion Soup (don't miss it) for starters and Profiterols for dessert. Prices are reasonable and worth it for this caliber of food. Great ambiance and charm."

  • "I'm so happy Claude came to the Marina/ Cow Hollow neighborhood. Great wine, cheese, plates, service and ambiance. Perfect for a first date and I love bringing my gfs here. The wine selection could be expanded but I have yet to be disappointed with a dish."

  • "After our last visit at Claude Cafe in downtown San Francisco my wife and I have to try the other Claude Cafe near the Marina. The experience was even better because it was intimate and cozy, the service was very professional and the food at the right temperature. The wine list was the only question mark but that is not taking away from the romantic dinner we had. "

  • "Sardines - awful. Halibut - too sauced, capers!!!! Coq au Vin - high school cafeteria. Radishes - delicious. Dessert - nearly inedible. Candied rhubarb thing - with jello? Back to awful. "

  • "Arrived at exactly 8:30pm (I.e. time of booking) and the restaurant was full. We were not seated for 45min. Cage Claude completely ignored the point of OpenTable."

  • "Had brunch here on Easter and the food was as good as ever. We had the mussels and the chicken salad and both were excellent as was the side of fries. Lacking a full liquor license, their cocktails are restricted to wine based ones but that does not stop them from being innovative and tasty. Service has always been friendly and efficient."

  • "Great waitress, she explained everything, knew about the wine, what would go best with what we were eating. She was a pleasure to have as our Waitress. The music was wonderful, you could listen to it but did not overcome our table conversation."

  • " We arrived after our friends were seated, and I felt like I was half at the table and half off because the table-2 put together- was so narrow. My coq au vin was ok, but I really couldn't see the vegetables in the dish as the lighting was so poor. When my husband ordered the roasted vegetable main course, the waitress looked blank and finally said, "Oh, you mean the faro dish!" The noise level got so bad we could not even carry on a conversation across our "petit" table. We had one onion soup, vegetable faro, and coq au vin, sharing a bottle of wine with our friends, and the bill was almost $100. And yes, we dine out often in SF and the Marina and this place offers nothing--Bring back the old Cassis, one of our favorite restaurants!"

  • "I dine out at least 4 time a week and largely enjoyed Cafe Claude, downtown for several years. Happy to know that they were bringing this French Style Bistro to the Marina. Been there three times and I'm calling it a strike-out. The wait staff couldn't be better but the food preparation is abysmal. Who is managing the kitchen, no one! Certainly no one from downtown."

  • "possibly the best onion soup and cheesecake I have ever ordered! My only suggestion would have been to have French music playing in the background instead of the music that was featured."

  • "Enjoyable French food, well presented and served. Friendly staff. Menu priced about right for the Marina/Presidio area. Finding parking is difficult in this area--took about 15 minutes of driving around before luckily found a spot about 3 blocks away."

  • "While the waitress was friendly and knowledgable, we found the food to be average and the wine pricey. Small wine glasses with small pours. The setting was pleasant and clean. Music was upbeat and matched the decor. The bar felt like one you might find in New Orleans. We liked the setting very much but won't be back due to the small, overpriced glasses of wine."

  • "We really like the downtown cafe Claude downtown and tried the marina site. Very consistent. I had boulibaise. My wife had steak tartar. That was a little heavy on the tobasco sauce, but very good."

  • "The Boyfriend and I celebrated my Birthday at Cafe Claude in the Marina Saturday night. We've loved the downtown location over the years, and wanted to give this new one a try. We really enjoyed every bit of it! The decor is lovely, dimly lit and romantic. Our server was an absolute delight! The food was spot on, mac and cheese and beet salad to start, the special beef bourguignon for him and the petole sole for me. Delish! We also had a side of the carrot-cardamom puree which was to die for. We finished with Moelleux au Chocolat. YUM!"

  • "Meet a friend here for dinner on a raining night. It wasn't crowded at all and we had excellent service and follow up. Great French restaurant added to the neighborhood. i had the Steake Frites and it was delish! The frites were just as I like them crunchy. Steak was cooked just right and was flavorful. The coq au vin was good as well. I would definitely come back."

  • "C'est magnifique! This restaurant really did have the feel of a café in Paris as it's small (but not too small) and intimate. The cuisine consists of the traditional French food that we prefer: Coq au Vin and Beef Bourguignon. Other excellent preparations include the Petrale Sole, and the Charcuterie. This was our first visit but we want to return to get our French Food Fix - absolutely DELICIOUS! The only drawback, the wine pours are definitely skimpy!"

  • "We were looking for a romantic spot for valentine's day. The ambiance of the place is very nice, pleasant decor. Service was generally quite good. The menu was a fixe prix, with two appetizers, main courses, and desserts. I had the crab appetizer, which was tasty but not spectacular. The lobster flan was a bit odd, served in an chicken egg shell. I had scallops for the main course, which were great, and my wife had a filet mignon, which was also very nice (although very rare, rather than medium rare). The desserts were also nice- a deconstructed chocolate eclair for my wife, and a lavender infused creme brulee (I think plain vanilla would have been fine). In all, a pleasant meal and a place we could talk and enjoy our time together."

  • "Cafe Claude is not as French as it's outpost on Claude Lane, but it does offer some very good French style dishes on it's menu. But for a neighborhood place, the prices are a little high-daily specials are $28. Smartly, I think, it concentrates on a smaller size menu. Lighting is dark, tables are close. Worth a visit but check prices before you go."

  • "Overall it was good, not incredible. We shared mussels and pomme fritte to start. The mussels and sauce were good, but not hot enough and I would have expected little forks to eat them with, not spoons. I had the petrale sole - pretty good, but a bit mushy and not very flavorful. Other people had coq au vin and beef bourguinon, which were both good, although I only had tiny bites so I'm not certain. The chocolate mousse tasted more like pudding, but was still tasty. Even though we weren't drinking alcohol, the waitress never asked if we wanted drinks. Even so, service was good and we weren't rushed out of there. A big plus was that it was definitely quiet enough to talk. The restaurant is also very pretty."

  • "Have been going to the sister restaurant downtown for years and always enjoyed. The new outpost is amazing, great design, awesome food (I am a huge fan of moule frites and they were great), and very professional and engaged service. Went during the evening and the weather was not right for out side but small patio would be great on a nice day. Great wine list and delicious desserts, can't wait to get back and have the steak frites another one of my favorites."
