  • "We went to celebrate our anniversary. The food was good but not exceptional. Service was lacking long delays between visits and we waited an excessive amount of time for the server to take our payment. There are better choices in Halifax."

  • "I can never say enough about the dining experiece at Cafe Chianti's and this evening was no exception. My dining partner tried the calamari appetizer (which I normally don't like) but I couldn't stop eating! The flavor was out of this world, large portions (enough for two to share) and hot! The bruschetta is one of my favorites in the city and it was obvious everything was made fresh. My speghetti aglio olio is my staple when I go and also the best in the city. My dining partner had another pasta type dish and hasn't stopped raving about it. Always a pleasure and always highly recommended!"

  • "The place had a lovely Italian ambience and the food was very good, especially the mussels. It was surprisingly noisy as friends greeted each other and chatted but it didn't really spoil the experience."

  • "The food and service was outstanding and in particular they were able to easily accomodate my wife's long list of food allergies with an excellent selection (seafood soup + gluten free/dairy free seafood pasta pescatore)."

  • "My only regreat about dining here is that it will be a long time before I am able to go back. Our last Nova Scotia night before returning to the States, we wanted something a cut about the fried seafood Halifax spots. Cafe Chianti was an Open Table favorite and from start to finish, the meal was exquisite, the service perfectly, perfectly paced. Parking is available one street down, or on the street. The flavers of each dish sparkled--never has such outstanding calamari, and the last bit of dessert as consumed. WIne list was reasonably priced, an added plus. If you only have time for one meal in Halifax make it this one. Better yet, become a regular if you aren't already."

  • "I visited with three friends on our last night in Nova Scotia. The lamb was outstanding, pizzas were large enough to share, and pasta was very good. Wine list was not huge but very adequate. The ambience was lovely and quiet. I would definitely return."

  • "We had the pleasure of bringing a group of 10 to the restaurant on June 27th, to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation, and the staff, food, atmosphere, decor were fantastic. The team at Cafe Chianti helped to make the day of my little graduate!"

  • "It is the best calamari in town. The service is friendly, not rushed. It was a really busy night so our orders took a while. The ambiance and friendly staff made the evening. As always, the food was very good, the special in particular was great. "

  • "Best restaurant in Halifax. The food is always incredible, and the wait staff are always ready to answer any questions I have. Be sure to order the Calamari, it is amazing."

  • "Loved, loved, loved their calamari! Had an excellent NY strip, grilled to perfection. My favorite dessert, tiramisu, was outstanding! We'll definitely go back. Although it was Easter Sunday, and not very busy, the service was great. Everyone was very attentive."

  • "Ate dinner at Cafe Chianti with my husband and teenaged daughters. Menu has many choices with something for everyone. Food and service very good. "

  • "We enjoyed our entrees. I had the special which was stuffed chicken and my husband had the lamb. Portion sizes were just right. The fresh bread that was brought to our table before our meal was lovely. Our only complaint was that the vegetables were undercooked; so much so that I had trouble cutting them with my knife."

  • "Me and my wife, we had a great time. Loved the friendliness, waitress knew the menu very well answered all my questions and made proper adjustments when necessary. Great water service."

  • "Replacement to original Cafe Chianti which burnt down. Old restaurant was more of a bistro while new one is excellent fine dining. within easy walking distance of Westin hotel and one of the main reasons we booked in at the hotel again. Service and staff excellent. Food delicious."

  • "When we arrived the Hostess showed us to our great window seat table. She also offered to take our coats and hung them in the front hall. This was our first time at the new location, must say we were impressed. Had the feel of a real old fashion dining room, not just a place to eat. Service, food and drink were all excellent. Can't wait to go back next time in Halifax."

  • "Our dinning experience was outstanding from the moment we where seat, service was right on spot seeing to our needs from apps to main course and desert. We were not rushed and did not have to wait, it was perfect. All dishes were special from looks to taste. To sum it up the experience was great. We will be back."

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Valentine's Day. The rack of lamb was fantastic! Our server Stephen was a darling!"

  • "Our dinner was very good. Wine was excellent as was the service. The restaurant was packed as one can imagine being Valentines Day. We were tabled in a section of the restaurant that most likely doesn't seat for dinner but we were made very comfortable and our waitress was great. Special thanks to Steve the waiter from Lunenburg and Gary the chef.....wow... Only negative thing is the gentleman who was seating people as he was either very tired, or overworked as he seemed grumpy and not that professional...other than that...it was great."

  • "The bruschetta and oasta was fine. The porc scallopini were dry. The portions are very generous so be orepared for left overs if your appetite is normal."

  • "Food was great. Service was very good. The setting was comfortable, however, for just the two of us hoping to enjoy dinner and some conversation we found the restaurant loud. It was about three-quarters full but was difficult to hear one another even sitting side by side."

  • "Delicious food and a good wine selection by the glass, which is important for drivers. We have been looking forward to dining at the Cafe since Terry became chef. Although Terry was in Sochi, the food was really delicious, well presented and beautifully cooked. Our server couldn't have been more professional and yet friendly."

  • "When we arrived at the restaurant,we were greeted by a friendly and courteous receptionist .She treated us as guests who arrived at her home and was genuinely happy to see us.,creating a favorable first impression the staff were non- intrusive but attentive. The food was excellent. The lamb well prepared -as rare as my husband likes it -Most restaurant overcook lamb.I had a pasta dish as a main course-an excellent choice as well !!!"

  • "We decided to try Cafe Chianti having moved to the neighbourhood recently. Overall, I was disappointed. Our group of 4 was celebrating two birthdays and as young working professionals, we were all really looking forward to a quiet dinner with great food and wine. The meal itself was nothing all that special. There was notably something lacking about the overall experience and we soon realized that our servers weren't paying much attention to us. They were notably doting on almost ALL of the other tables (ahem, older generation) around us (offering fresh ground pepper, returning often to ask about the food). Our food also took a long time - probably 30-40 minutes. No apologies. I think I'll take my hard-earned money somewhere else."

  • "Great restaurant, food and service was excellent. Staff very attentive and very helpful. Only downside, was that there was a large group near us who were rather boisterous at times."

  • "This is my FAVORITE restaurant in Halifax! I have to include it in my plans everytime I'm in the area!( We are from Moncton, NB)...I always have the same main dish, butternut squash/lobster ravioli, I can't get enough of it. The service is always friendly and fast as well...I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!!!!!!!! 10/10 BRAVO"

  • "Calamari appetizer was very good. Ceasar Salad okay. Pasta Dish with smoked salmon, scallops and shrimp was very average from a flavour and texture perspective. Lemon Cheesecake was salty(?) and the Cappacino while tasty was served luke warm. Service and ambience was very good, but overall the limited menu (no veal dishes for example), combined with the high prices and quality of the food, made the experience rather unsatisfactory. I have no plans to return to this restaurant anytime soon."

  • "Cafe Chianti is our new favourite restaurant in Halifax. We have been there many times and we're always delighted with our experience. My husband and I try calamari where ever we go and we both agree that Cafe Chianti serves the ultimate best. It is lightly breaded, pan fried and tossed with a bit of a tomato based sauce. The portion is generous and can be shared. I often order the chicken (cooked under a brick - very moist and yummy) and my husband often orders the lamb or the chicken. Cafe Chianti's pasta dishes are noteworthy as well, especially the chicken. We have never ordered dessert (no room left), but I expect that they are in keeping with the standard of everything else they prepare. Congrats to Cafe Chianti!"

  • "I've always been a fan of Cafe Chianti's and this was my first chance to go back since moving out of the area. Since then, there is a new chef in place and I was a bit reluctant. I didn't think it possible but it actually improved! From the warm, fresh bread with EVOO and balsalmic vinegar to start, to the perfectly seasoned bruschetta; the cast ironed seared scallops on a bed of delicious tasting wilted spinach; a large side of garlicky speghetti aglio olio, and the most flavourful side of mushrooms in a port wine sauce; to the perfectly cooked game hen - everything was wonderful. We didn't have any wine but a huge menu. The waiter was helpful, personable and had great timing with the dishes. Overall, I rate this a high 10/10! Will go back!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Cafe Chianti on New Years Eve. We arrived a tad early for our 7:30 pm reservation and were promptly seated and had our drink order taken. I suffer from an oral ailment (jaw surgery is on the horizon) and I had to stick to soft foods. The prix-fixe NYE menu offered many seafood options that were not only flavourful but didn't make me reach for the pain killers after every bite. To say the food was incredible would be an understatement. Every mouthful was delectable and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for scrumptrulescent Italian inspired cuisine in the heart of Halifax."

  • "Went for a New Year's Eve dinner with friends and couldn't have asked for more. The food was absolutely outstanding - I can't say enough - perfect in every way from the selections and wine pairing to the perfect preparation to the presentation. The service was highly attentive, but not in the way. The ambiance was wonderful, a gentle fire, soft lighting, cosy on a cold evening. A truly exceptional experience overall."

  • "For the second year now, a group of us has celebrated New Years Eve at this charming spot where, whatever the occasion, the evening is a wonderful dining experience. The warm and welcoming decor sets the tone and the pleasant well-trained staff look after your every wish. Special mention to Lisa this year whose service and good cheer added so much to our evening. The raves from all six of us about our various menu choices reinforced the nearly licked clean plates taken from our table ~ kudos to the talented kitchen wizards! A lovely unexpected thank you gift from Jan and Helen capped off a perfect leisurely three hours spent in their always delightful Cafe Chianti. We will return soon and often!"

  • "Cafe Chianti was the perfect choice .The servers were attentive but not obtrusive. Nice to be in an atmosphere where we could relax, hear ourselves talk and not be assaulted by music that is too loud to actually enoy it. The rack of lamb was done to perfection. tender, juicy, flavourful. The creme brule was lovely to look at and had just the right crackle as I delved into the rich creamy custard. My companion's caprese salad was presented beautifully and her salmon done just to her liking. Dining is the star here and it shines brightly"

  • "It was my first time At this restaurant and for many of our group of 12 it was their first time as well. The food and service was top notch and I highly recommend this restaurant for a group or even a romantic evening!!"

  • "Perfect broccoli. 3 Pasta dishes - squash raviloli, scallops, and gnocci - had too many competitive elements in each one. The gnocci was lovely but overpowered by too a dense tomato sauce, the smoked salmon competed with the scallops. The calimari was tender but overtomated. Hohum bread. Wine list on ipad was awkward to use."

  • "We always enjoy an evening with friends at Cafe Chianti but this last visit was particularly outstanding. Service is always friendly and very good. The food was perfect and very generous. Perhaps this is because they have a wonderful new chef since we were there last who came from another italian restaurant we also enjoyed very much. We would highly recommend the rack of lamb anytime. The menu also offered fresh local line caught halibut, It looked wonderful and both the diners who had it said it was fresh and flavourful. Our fourth opted for spaghetti bolognaise. The portion and meatballs were huge and delicious. Fine wine list and great special coffees. You have to try this great spot."
