  • "The service was slow and the food all though very tasty a bit skimpy on portions. It's a very nice place especially with the concerts thay have through out the summer but for the food, it's a bit pricy in my opinion."

  • "We dined on the patio at a table for four which was very cramped with little room for everything that we needed, glasses, bread basket, plates, appetizer, etc., and constant shifting of items was annoying. We tried a variety of wine /champagne flights. The sautéed trout was good and a caesar shrimp salad was fresh and tasty. The menu wasn't very interesting to us, same ole same ole offerings. The dining experience didn't meet our exceptions based on the winery's stellar advertisements and received awards. The contemporary fusion cuisine appeared to be missing from the menu. The property is lovely and the courtyards welcome guests for dining and entertainment. The gift shop and tasting bar were interesting to visit."

  • "We went to this restaurant for lunch. Prices were very high and the menu not all interesting. The food was OK but nothing special. If you want bread to go with your meal, you will have to pay extra for it. The patio dining isn't very nice - they need to do so something about the tacky plastic table cloths. There are much better dining options in the Temecula Wine area."

  • "We were looking forward to our dinner at Cafe Champagne. We know the Thornton's history in San Diego and knew they were foodies, so we felt the food would be really good. The menu was interesting so we decided to try it. I have to be honest, it was the worst meal I have ever had at a restaurant in my life and I have had many over the years. The waitress was nice, but over solicitous (yes, that is possible)What was supposed to be Osso Buco wasn't- veal in red wine sauce, not white and no gremolata. My Cioppino was so salty it was inedible. I think if the Thornton's had sat down to this meal themselves, they would have been horrified.. we were."

  • "my cobb salad and the charcutterie plate were very ordinary. The cioppino was good, but the experience was nothing special."

  • "This was the first time I have eaten at Cafe Champagne and it was REALLY good. The service was awesome, there was music playing which I loved, and the food was exceptional The price is a little higher than other restaurants, but it was really, really good. I would absolutely without a doubt return, and will recommend it to all my friends and family."

  • "My wife and I decided to skip the insanity of trying to go out on Valentine's Day and opted instead to go out the weekend following. We chose Cafe Champagne somewhat at random and were very pleased that we did. I had the ahi appetizer and my wife had a salad, both were excellent. For the main course I had the coffee rubbed steak and she had the bass that was the special for the evening. We enjoyed our own meals and were inspired to share. Overall it was a great night."

  • "We visit the Temecula wine district every few years and always try to have a lunch at Cafe Champagne each time. We have never been disappointed."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door, it was like they were expecting us. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and every member of the service staff did their little bit to make the experience pleasant. Plus, great appetizer, entrees and desserts! Thank you staff."

  • "Went on a busy Sunday afternoon, was seated fairly quickly. There were several servers, not one of them even stopped by the table to say they would be right with us, even tried making eye contact several times and did not even receive an acknowledgement. After 20 minutes of we actually got up and left, have never done that before, Probably won't be going back..."

  • "Tabel for two did not state that making a reservation for "Cafe Champagne" on Valentine's day was for a special event. We were not aware that we couldn't order from the entire menu. When we arrived the lady standing at the podium was on the phone and never even looked up to acknowledge us (total turn off from the start). We were seated outside without being asked if we would prefer indoor seating. While the waiter was friendly, he never came by to ask if I wanted another glass of Champagne or if my husband wanted another beer. We were also surprised when we got the check and his very generous gratuity had already been written in for us. He didn't deserve a $30.00 tip. Finally, the food tasted like institutional food."

  • "Café Champagne is such a lovely spot at Thornton Winery. We love it there-especially the patio dining. Sat. afternoon they had outside live music (like the Beatles), nice to dine to. The beautiful grounds made our weekend vacation spot extra special! The service was excellent. Nice menu and wine selection. Try the champagne flights! The six of us had a great time!"

  • "I love this winery and bring friends and family here quite often. The outdoor seating is incredibly relaxing and the food is top-notch gourmet. They have live music but check the schedule to see when."

  • "For most of our meal, we were the only patrons. Made for a very quiet dinner (B'day) Thus, we had great service and our meal (sampled almost all the appetizers and wine sampler were the very best. Thanks for a great memory and for your staff waiting for us so they could go home."

  • "We've eaten here before. Generally the food is excellent, usually the service is also excellent. This time the hostess and the busboys went out of their way to be accommodating, but the waiter not so much. Maybe he was having a bad day."

  • "Had lunch and wine tasting with friends and my son, and everything was spot on. The food was delicious and artfully presented, the wine flights were wonderful. It was our first time, and we sat in the outdoor patio area, there was live music and it was better than I had expected, really enjoyable and at a moderate level so no problem whatsoever conversing with each other. The waiter was excellent, and so darn cheerful - I was impressed. Will absolutely be back and enthusiastically recommend."

  • "We went here for Sunday brunch in early January, and had a wonderful time. Do not go here for a regular Champange Brunch as it is only a regular menu with a free glass of house bubbly. The food was good, service a little disjointed, but atmosphere was wonderful. They had a couple of musicians making nice music in the background and it has good people watching. I think they must give a good commision to the wait staff as the pressure to become a wine club member is stiff. All in all a good experience, especially if you are from Minnesota!"

  • "Nice preparations, beautiful view of the Temecula valley, and good service. Kids meals were a bit high ($10+) but good quality."

  • "The service was lousy, it was cold as the floor heaters didn't work, and my food was cold."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "The food was good and with one server, the service was a bit slow. The biggest problem was the price. Way overpriced for what you get. This might explain the lack of customers."

  • "We were celebrating my friend's birthday. Unfortunately I was not impressed. The menu for lunch is quite limited. My friend's flatbread was truly bland and boring. My ham and apple sandwich was a bit better, but nothing to rave about. The restaurant has looked the same for years! Really? A wallpaper border has not been used in decor for twenty years. A refreshed interior is really needed. The service was fine, the view is pretty but the Cafe needs to up it's game!"

  • "Turns out that the "Cafe Champagne Restaurant at Thornton Winery" like most Temecula wine country restaurants was made for lunch. We had a great out door lunch several years ago and return for dinner this year and were disappointed with dinner:The "Southwestern Caesar Salad" with venison would have been better without the southwest and without the venison. The biggest turn off however was the $45 house red (the least expensive on the menu) tasted like $5 a bottle wine. You would expect that when dining a the Winery you would get an above average wine at a good price. Not the case at Thornton Winery. The waiter did not know how to pour wine filling the glass to capacity and dumping the sediment into the glass to clean up the table."

  • "This was the second trip to this restaurant. The first time, the food was "OK", thought we'd give it another try for Thanksgiving. BAD CHOICE! All of the food seemed as though it was prepared days in advance. The meal started off with either a shrimp cocktail or pumpkin soup. The shrimp was very over cooked and grey. The soup had little flavor other than the thickening agent. The vegetables tasted boiled and had no flavor. The meat was dry, all three meals (turkey, short ribs and pork loin). The deserts, well, better to have just skipped them all together. The best part of the meal was the salad which they probably pulled out of a bag. I sent my meal back twice. The second time was worse then the fist. I went home and made a sandwich. Bad!!"

  • "Celebrated our 28th anniversary with an overnight stay at a local B & B and dinner at Cafe Champagne. Menu selection was adequate to suit every taste. Servers were knowledgeable having been there for several years. Enjoyed a flight of three (3) champagne selections before our soup and entree selections. Their chicken vegtable soup hit the spot on a cold evening. Food was hot and delicious. White and dark chocolate parfait rounded out our meal."

  • "We sat outside and had lunch during the week. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The Thornton wine is excellent, but a bit expensive by the glass."

  • "The three of us enjoyed a leisurly lunch Friday at 11am. Meeting here provides that no one has to travel a great dustance. The best of both worlds! By arriving early we had time to talk before the place started filling up and the noise level was tolerable. The Staff were most attentative and the food was great. Thank you. Alice Spence"

  • "We have eaten at this restaurant several times and have always had a great experience. The chef always prepared excellent meals. However, this time the food was fair and the retaurant looks like it is in need of a facelift. We were surprised to see a "gourmet" burger on the dinner menu of an "upscale" restaurant that wasn't at least Kobi. For old times sake, we may try Thorntons again just to make sure it wasn't an off night."
