Cafe Carolina fit the bill. It's two simply furnished rooms that reminded me of some of the trattorias where I have dined in Italy. Our server was cheerful and very helpful, giving us samples of some of the special wines. The food -- which tends towards the straightforward and simple rather than the innovative -- was not memorable, but featured good ingredients, and was capably prepared and very satisfying. Prices are quite moderate. During the week the noise level was moderate. On Saturday night it was quite loud. Also several large groups celebrating birthdays and graduations elevated the noise level. They change parts of their menu every two weeks, highlighting foods from different regions of Italy and make wine pairing suggestions, so it keeps the menu interesting and ever changing. Everyone at the table of 8 adults + one 2 year old enjoyed their food to the fullest. We celebrated Mother's Day brunch 1 day early. The food was unique, yet not too off the wall, and everything tasted fresh. Flavors were well balanced and complimented each other well. I had the mushroom crepe, which was cooked perfectly. The fritatta with Gorgonzola and walnuts was also excellent. Every dish was exceptional, and the prices were reasonable, especially since you got a decent portion and food I wouldn't cook at home. Va bene!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I tried CafeMy husband and I tried Cafe Carolina for the first time last Friday. The restaurant was full and busy, but we were seated right away. We had the lasagne and gnocchi with pink sauce. This restaurant offered a variety of sauces and types of pasta to choose from, so it was easy to make your own custom selection. I was impressed that Cafe Carolina focuses on organics when possible and when my husband asked for a diet drink, the server offered Hansen's instead of the typical Coke or Pepsi. Has a boutique cafe sort of feel, but has reasonable pricing. Would like to go back and try other items to experience the full menu. Pizzas looked good. Our server was very friendly and helpful.
