  • Catering: On premise catering only. We have elegant accommodations for small groups, up to 16 in our Chef's Table, and for groups up to 40 in our Tuscan Room.
  • Private Party Facilities: The Cafe has two wonderful private dining rooms for private events. Our Chef's Table, located on the second floor above the main restauant, can hold parties of 10-17 and is an intimate open kitchen concept room where the chef cooks in front of your guests. The room also features a private entrance and private bathrooms just for this room. Our Tuscan Room is our large private dining room that can hold parties from 16-40 guests and features a Tuscan inspired classic private room with private entrance and bathrooms. Both private rooms have wireless internet, screens and private staff. Our rooms regularly host business events and speaker presentations as well as family event, birthdays, anniversaries as well as couples dinners with friends.

Cafe Cariccio, the region's only authentic Tuscan restaurant, has been a favorite dining destination in Albany for 30 years. The Cafe was voted Best Restaurant in the Capital District by Metroland Magazine for 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and many times previously. Jim Rua and Franco Rua are proprietors.   • "The service is wonderful and the food was delicious. My husband and I split the antipasto Toscana and shrimp brochette, both tasty. The pickled vegetables on the antipasto were particularly good. I had a half portion of pasta with shrimp with escarole and lemon-it was tart, which I really liked. My husband had veal scallopini and liked it as well. The homemade bread was a particular highlight!. We did not have dessert. My one criticism is with the wine list- a nice selection, but too few wines by the glass-they do offer half bottles on several items, which is nice, but since I was the only one dreinking, my choice for a glass was more limited. Would have liked to have seen an Albarino on the list!"

  • "Of the 17 restaurants participating in Restaurant week, Cafe Capriccio was the only one that shortened it's participation from 10 days to 5, but the Restaurant Week website did not identify that. We showed up on Wednesday and were told it was over. At that point it was too late to go to a different one. Bad Business, we would have made a different choice that night."

  • "If you love old charm in classic surroundings then the building, inside and out, is for you. It was cozy but not cramped. This was a very nice date place. The food was good all around with one exception - my wife was surprised by the texture of her tuna steak. It was stringy and not flaky but the flavor was still good. We were somewhat limited in our choices due to the focused menu for Restaurant Week but that was alright. My roast pork was tasty and very juicy. Each entrée came with yummy melt-in-your-mouth potatoes and crisp green beans. This seemed to be REAL Italian fare, not dumbed down to mass market appeal. I hope we have a chance to return soon!"

The service is always impeccable and dinner the other night was no exception. Staff were attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The menu included some interesting specials. The homemade ravioli of the day was stuffed with cheese and fruits and served with a chunky tomato sauce. The pasta was sweet and tangy and melted in my mouth. The calamari neri was excellent (as always.) Cafe Capriccio is one of the few places that serves this delicacy. From a crisp house salad through delicate cannoli for dessert, dinner was superb. Cafe Capriccio is a delightful bit of Tuscany in downtown Albany."

  • "A weeknight business dinner for four where we wanted good food and an atmosphere quiet enough to allow conversation. Food was uniformly good with two diners having the veal chop. The chop were large, moist and perfectly cooked to the desired temperature. The other two diners had the tuna steak special. The tuna was a sushi grade steak and a large portion, One was requested seared outside and cool center. The kitchen provided a perfectly prepared tuna steak, as requested. A result not often achieved in a busy kitchen. Cafe Capriccio continues to deliver a solid dining experience with excellent food preparation, solid unpretentious service and a quality and reasonably price wine list."

  • "Have been here many times. James Rua, the owner, host cooking tours to Italy on a constant basis, and always brings back authentic Italian recipes. He new wood fired oven, and use of authentic Italian ingredients, has resulted in a pizza that is the closest that I have tasted to an authentic Italian pizza from southern Italy. My girfriend had the wonderful eggplant, and the Pumpkin Risotto was out of this world. The waiter suggested an excellent wine for me. Cannot wait to go back. We'd like to do a private "upstairs" group, where Mr. Rua cooks for you personally."

  • "My wife and I have been going to Capriccio ever since it opened and it is charming to say the least. However, when the Legislatures are in town and are dining at Capriccio,the noise level get higher. The food is still outstanding but it has a Manhattan ambiance. We still go but be forewarned, you need to make your reservations early. We love the place, it always feels at home due to the fantastic staff. Never a flaw, never a problem Not overpriced for what you are getting, a good value but not cheap.."

  • "After being unable to get a table the weekend before on short notice, we booked a week in advance & it was worth the wait. My wife & I shared the calamari salad. One of the few calamari appetizers in the area that is NOT fired, but fresh. she also had the beet salad.. Our entrees were the salmon for her & the Eggplant Capricciso for me. Portions were just right to allow room for dessert. Service & the old school atmosphere have made Cafe Capriccio our favorite local Italian restaurant. Many other Albany area Italian restaurants will offer more in portion size, but less in quality. Enjoy the quality"

  • "Once again, a great night; the food, wine, service, and ambiance were excellent. The squid ink pasta is so hard to pass up; I had to get it. It did not disappoint. The wine suggested with it was superb. My wife loved the risotto with scallops. Desserts were fabulous."

  • "We sometimes forget that just off Madison Ave in downtown Albany there is a splendid Italian restaurant. We reserved for Valentine's Day well in advance. The interior atmosphere is very comfortable, seating a good number without feeling crowded. The staff operate like a well-oiled machine. None who served us was ever introduced by name, but rotating responsibilities ensure that you are not ignored. Courses appear promptly no matter who you may have seen last. Coffee and water are replenished as needed. We enjoyed regular menu items and some dinner specials. Preparations are not extraordinary, but our meal was delicious from beginning to end, i.e. a very green 'tossed' salad to the 'pick me up' tiramisu which itself is worth dropping in for!"

  • "Overall experience was good, we felt the value versus cost was quite skewed. Our server was very pleasant although I cannot remember her name other than she was server 25 on our receipt. The wine selection was adequate. The food was under seasoned for me. I had the Delmonico priced at $38 which was touted as a classical prep that was not even close to the original, thank god for lemon on the plate, salt & pepper on the table. Beet Salad, nicely prepared but overloaded with Gorgonzola. Key words BEET SALAD. App size of a staple pasta dish with fettuccine, little necks, shrimp,calamari in a watery under seasoned broth over priced $14. The eggplant which 25 sold us on was accurate, winner! Dessert was the savior but the Semifredo was frozen."
