Diner Reviews
  • "For the starter, I ordered crispy duck egg which is on the regular menu. And I chose Beef brisket as main course which was good. Strawberry sundae is okay."

  • "I was amazed by the elegant hotel and restaurant settings. The serving staff are very professional and friendly. They know when you need to refill the drink or when you need the next course. I love this place. I will definitely come back with a date or something romantic."

  • "Used the "Summerlicious" promotion to try Cafe Boulud. Food and service both were excellent. However, one must walk up an awkwardly-constructed staircase to reach the dining room and, once there, poor venue design means diners are surrounded by a cacophony of noise. It was virtually impossible to conduct a dinner conversation across a small table."

  • "This was an overall great experience. We attended for Summerlicious and the service could not be better. All of the servers were courteous and friendly from beginning to end. The glass sculptures and portrait paintings combine to heighten the overall ambience. All of these factors tie in to create a great atmosphere in the restaurant. We would definitely recommend it!"

  • "Each year we are lucky to be able to celebrate our anniversary with a Summerlicious dinner and this year we chose Café Boulud - what a great choice! We had indicated that it was our anniversary and so the evening started at the best table in the house. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, the wine choices (it was bin-end night with 50% off select wine) were superb, but things really shined with the food. Each course was absolutely amazing in taste and presentation. This restaurant is definitely on our repeat list and we look forward to exploring their menu again."

  • "I had a feast of art for my eyes even before I sat down! Comfortable seating, I was under Madonna!! So cool! Came for summerlicous and will come back to try the regular menu. Absolutely delicious! Your staff are warm and informative, lemon balm was the herb I tasted...ahhhh!!! =o) Thank you for participating in this cuisine festival, my mouth and eyes thank you even more!"

  • "Very nice atmosphere and freshest ingredients used in the hotcakes, parfait and poached eggs. Will definitely return."

  • "This is the third time I have had brunch here and enjoyed it as much as the first time. Calvin was our waiter all three times (the last time by request) and he just completes the experience with his wonderful attention to service. The food is prepared and presented beautifully and the choice is amazing and I must add, a great deal for the price! The fact that it is all top quality and even organic and with gluten free choices makes it a top choice for me."

  • "everything is great. restaurant is beautiful, service is fantastic, food is delicious. Could't find anything to complain."

  • "Went there for lunch last year during Summerlicious, it was very good. This year, my wife and I went for dinner and it was very disappointing. The food they serve is more for lunch than for dinner and the service was really mediocre, our waiter made a mistake in the food which my wife ordered. Although they corrected it, but they brought my along with hers, therefore I had to wait until hers arrive. Also, everytime we requested something, we had to tell them a second time and even then we had to wait a long time for them to bring it. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and definitely not worth $45 each."

  • "I lost $10 in "service bets" to my husband. We live a block away and I really want him to like this restaurant. But while the food is great, the service is inconsistent. And he hates that. For example, "Will they bring a steak knife because I ordered steak or will I have to ask?". Lost $5 on that bet. Ordered a martini and asked for a side of ice. "Will it come without asking a second time." Lost $10 - we had two martini's. But I did win back $5 on the "Will there be salt in the shaker when they bring it to the table". Last time it took four tries to get salt."

  • "I love the excellently prepared and presented food in this fresh, sophisticated (i.e. simple elegance) looking restaurant. The 5 course tasting menu is a really good value, and make sure to tell the serve your preferences. Our seafood focused preferences were excellent. You can select some of the items on the menu, and they will work their magic. The service was very good, friendly and precise. Music needs to be much more refined to match the superb ambiance of the restaurant."

  • "This was our second time at Cafe Boulud and unfortunately it was not as good as the first! It was quiet when we arrived and got busier later however the service was only adequate. We waited more than 1/2 hour for the waiter to take our dessert order. The food was good but not great."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and love to drop by Cafe Boulud on special occasions with friends from out of town or for special date nights - or brunches. Walking into the Four Seasons foyer always makes me feel like I'm on a high end holiday - even if just for a few hours. It's extremely peaceful, serene, stylish, and the staff at Boulud are fantastic. This place is still very very quiet - and feels quite 'unfound' - so its definitely not as sceney as Four Seasons' fine dining space was in their old building - or indeed the original in New York - not yet anyway. That suits us just fine. Great wine list. Great Food. For us it's always a toss between here or Scaramouche."

  • "Very impressed with the brunch that we had but I sort of expected it since it's a Boulud place. I would go there again to taste their other offerings. Great ambiance as well, the Four Seasons hotel in Toronto is simply breathtaking. Hope I will be able to afford a room there soon"

  • "I had my birthday dinner there this past weekend and it was a great experience. The food was impeccable. We have the 5 course tasting menu and everything on the menu was delicious. The service was great. Our server was accomodating and had a great sense of humor. I would definitely go back soon."

  • "We had a wonderful Father's Day dinner. It couldn't have been better."

  • "The food is unremarkable and the wait staff poorly trained. The room is cold and uncomfortable. For the price there are much better restaurants in Toronto."

  • "Food was good and staff was friendly, but service was a bit slow."

  • "Exceptional dining experience. When you go out and you want to have an impressive gourmet experience, this is a good place to go. Prepare to be impressed by the imaginative culinary offerings, the highly attentive service (without being over bearing) and great sommelier who provides a depth of explanation for each wine like he's been to the vineyard (and maybe he has)."

  • "The staff were fantastic. Wine was certainly over-priced. "

  • "Attentive service and lovely ambiance for a large group. The staff was very accommodating and the food and decor was great! Felt very comfortable there and could have kept chatting with friends for hours!"

  • "Being a Daniel Bouloud property my expectation were pretty high for the food-my expectations were surpassed. Both guests at my table has tasting menus, I had the 5 course, my guest the 7. We were both extremely happy with our decisions. I think the 5 course is quite a bit of food for a single meal, with the amuse, lobster salad, pasta course, fish course meat course and dessert, but every taste was well worth it! I thought the value for the dining experience was very reasonable as well. A great birthdays or anniversary spot, or brunch spot with guests"

  • "Overpriced. Meagre portions. I had a 3-course dinner & came home hungry (and I don't need much). I made a res for 5:45 on-line, but had to wait w my guest until the rest opened @ 6. No signage off the elevator. Restaurtant smelled disagreeably of oil lamps when we arrived. Service was attentive but not engaging."

  • "The food was exquisite. Well prepared, well designed, and perfectly sized portions. The ambiance was lovely. The service was quite slow, but it was an otherwise incredible meal."

  • "We had trouble finding the entrance, very poor signage. That was more the fault of the hotel The Four Seasons Toronto, rather than the restaurant. Everything was very good but nothing was exceptional. The restaurant is pricey but not extreme. Not a romantic or charming ambiance. Very bright and contemporary. I would recommend Cafe Boulud Toronto for a very good experience if only to try something different. We had the chilled pea soup and foie gras for starters, we each had the potato wrapped sea bass for our main courses. It was a birthday dinner and the restaurant presented us with a generous serving of Lemon Madelines. "

  • "Great place to start your day. Bright and airy ambiance, attentive yet unobtrusive service. Venture out of your comfort zone and look further down the menu past your standard bacon and eggs and omelettes. OEUFS MEURETTE (red wine poached eggs on top of a bed of braised short ribs...) just might be the best breakfast in the world."

  • "My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at Cafe Boulud. We've both eaten here before but haven't been for a few months. On our evening, the cafe was quieter than normal as this was the long-weekend, so the ambience was perfect. We had an amazing dinner - lobster salad was succulent and the halibut and sea bass was exceptional. The desserts - i) caramel and mango and ii) chocolate lava cake (??) and mousse were to die for. To top it off, the madeleines - a must have to end the evening or take home. They are addictive. Our waitress provided us with exceptional service and was knowledgeable about the menu. Definite place to celebrate a special occasion, or a place to enjoy great food and service."

  • "We split an appetizer (orecchiette a la norma) which was tasty but a bit heavy on the salty bacon flavour. We had two good entrees (cod and paella) but the portions were very small. The paella was light on the seafood and heavy on the butter and bacon like flavour of the chorizo bits in the saffron rice. On the other hand, the homemade ice cream dessert was very generous and delicious as were the champagne and wine. The servers were excellent. We enjoyed our meal because of the lovely casual-upscale atmosphere, the great service and the satisfying meal. However, given the price point, we expected an excellent delectable meal and found it to be similar to other good restaurants we've been to with a lower price point in lovely locations."

  • "I brought my mother to Cafe Boulud for Mother's Day with the rest of our family and we all raved about the outstanding meal we had. I had the lobster salad which I keep dreaming about! The chocolate dessert was phenomenal. Sampling other dishes of people at the table, the steak au poivre is something I hope is a staple on the menu as I wish to return and order that the next chance I get! The servers were so sweet and friendly. It was really very adorable that they sent us home with madelines. Thank you for a wonderful experience!"

  • "When you're dealing with a place of Boulud's calibre, you can expect a very good meal particularly after they've been opened for a year and have ironed everything out. This is a modern cafe/bistro-ish type place... The frosted glass tables and chairs kind of threw us off and let us make lots of jokes about getting the mesh chairs at staples and using outdoor tables... Service was great, the only nit-picky thing that I recall was it took a while for the waiter to fill my wine glass when it was empty, other than that, the meal was excellent. Atmosphere was energetic, loud, busy, with Quincy Jones and Norman Jewison and Chris Macdonald (Cava, Avalon) in the house on the Saturday night we went..."

  • "Salad and desert were great. Vegetarian option was nothing more than boiled vegetables on some boilded grain. Steak was a very poor cut with no flavour. Would not recommend this restaurant."
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "The greeters were energetic, food was pretty good - but the service was really slow. On top of that, the waitress never mentioned a word that we would have to wait that long for food (nothing along the lines like "sorry for the long wait, etc etc.") so we just figured on our own that was what's happening after over half an hour wait for our entrees. First time at the restaurant. Would I come back? For the food, yes. For the service, no."

  • "Been twice now and honestly this place knows what it's doing. From the very attentive staff (really, everyone there can't do enough for you) to the very creative and tasty food, go. You won't be disappointed."

  • "I've dined at Café Boulud on many occasions. Once on a TravelZoo voucher even. Level of service and execution of food is always consistent. They don't discriminate against customers. While the food will not blow your socks off, it is solidly executed and delicious. The sommelier is also very knowledgeable. Staff are always attentive. Definitely recommend! "

  • "For a special celebration we decided to have brunch at the Cafe. The restuarant and layout is beautiful and very chic. Staff were lovely and attentive. But the food fell short. It was good but not spectacular which for the price of $42 prix fix, one would expect. The duck hash was not a traditional hash with grated potatoes but more cubes and in too much broth. Would we go back? Likely not as I did not feel we got value for the dollars spent. "

  • "While I still have some reservations about the decor, the food and service are getting better each time I go. The overall dining experience is one of the best in Toronto. The staff are pleasant and go out of their way to be helpful. The menu provides a range of well thought through items, very well presented. "
