Diner Reviews
  • "My family thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Café Boulud many months ago, and we continue to enjoy every visit. The high standard of cuisine, service and overall presentation continues to impress. This is an hotel located restaurant that really is worth a visit!"

  • "The Four Seasons hotel is impressive - it captures a James Bond glam that makes you feel important. The restaurant itself tries to capture the vibe too, but somehow falls to mediocrity. The appearance is typically 'modern' the music is typically 'ambient', the style of waiting is of the conventionally stuffy sort, and it all left me a bit bored. It's rare for me to say this as I just love going to restaurants, but this one just tried so hard to be the opposite of unique. The food was fine enough, - I wasn't surprised that it too was middle of the road. My party ate quietly without much gushing. Our server,a young woman, was really great. Desserts surpassed the meal by far. I wouldn't go back or recommend it to others, but you might like it!"

  • "Excellent food, service, and presentation. I would definitely take friends that appreciate food there for dinner."

  • "This restaurant never fails to provide the highest level of service and food inventiveness available in the Toronto market and the staff goes out of their way in friendliness and competency. hats off to all"

  • "The food was outstanding and the service excellent. Best lemon ricotta pancakes."

  • "Nice to be able to pick from a menu - and not forced to have a buffet! Great food --"

  • "Both my daughter and I had fish, and we both enjoyed the dishes, but my wife's paella was way too salty, she basically had to wash it down with cold water! The wine, a Riesling, was good, mild and so fruity. We did enjoy the ambience, but the neighbouring table had a little baby, I guess they must be staying at the hotel."

  • "I had read a review of this restaurant that said it is ugly. It is a attractive, lively space. What a pleasant surprise that the women's washroom has handles on the faucets - no frantic waving of hands and frustration. I am not fond of food that has been overly messed with and my two brunch choices of salad and smoked salmon were excellent. The service was slow but the ambience was so lovely that we really didn't care. I can see that some might. I asked for hot water and lemon and had to remind the server perhaps an hour later to bring it. We were also brought the wrong meals but I think because it was a lovely relaxed sunday afternoon it wasn't a bother. At another time it may have been. I have already recommended it to several friends."

  • "Terrible service, slow and extremely inattentive. Nice presentation, but very poor food quality. Cote de boeuf ordered medium rare was inedible and we struggled to cut it with our knives. My wife's pasta dish was equally bad. Dry and inedible to the point where she left three quarters on her plate. No questions asked, no apologies offered. Someone needs to start paying attention..."

  • "The staff was wonderful. The ambiance was right for our date night. The food was delicious. I just hate it when I have to stop for a burger on the way home. With the location, decor and talented kitchen staff, there are high costs to the restaurant business, especially in this echelon. The food, however, is a minor cost. Three tiny slices of venison with everything else on the plate would occupy the volume of navel orange. Not cheap, and left hungry. I liked the restaurant but (sorry to say) can't think of a good enough reason to go back. Thank you to the excellent staff from the door to the table, who made our experience pleasurable in other ways."

  • "Excellent food and service! I would highly recommend this place for a special event or work dinner."

  • "Great service and chill relaxed atmosphere. Seared foie gras appetizer and grapefruit givre dessert was interesting, creative and Delish. Had veal shank as a main, was disappointed."

  • "Although the food was good, the noise level was unpleasant and the continuous techno-thumping music was annoying. The atmosphere wasn't welcoming and the mix of clientele left something to be desired. We felt uncomfortable and certainly wouldn't return for brunch. Perhaps the atmosphere in the evening is more in keeping with the reputation of this restaurant."

  • "Enjoyed the Monday half price bin bottle! Food was delicious - however, service, while friendly, could have been better. My husband ordered the seared fois gras and was disappointed to receive the terrine. It was replaced, but meant we could not eat our starters together. We noticed an error on the bill for the cost of the glass of Port ordered - our benefit as we ended up not being charged as the computer coding could not be (quickly) changed. The hotel decor was gorgeous along with the beautiful yellow rose and tulip flower arrangements! We would definitely return as the meal was delicious."

  • "Another fantastic dinner at Cafe Boulud. We all enjoyed our appetizers and main courses which consisted of the sea bass, halibut, scallops and steak. The chocolate dessert was delicious. Dependra provided excellent, friendly service. We always have a great time when we dine here which has become quite a regular thing!"

  • "Excellent and creative food, amazing service, great ambience, all located within Toronto's best hotel. Cannot overstate what a great night out this was. We will definitely be back."

  • "Had nettle ravioli and otherwise cannot remember anything else we ate. It was alright as far as food goes. NOTHING like Daniel in NYC, but classy and great service and pretty restaurant. Great date or special occasion place, but for the price, they could elevate the ambiance and food presentation."

  • "For a $300 2-person dinner at a high-end French cuisine , I would expect the servers to be a bit more refined. The server we had was a bit rough on the edges. My wife and I both felt that she just didn't want to be there to serve us. Reminded us of some lower end restaurants in town. And the other server kept pointing at the food really close with his finger while introducing the dish. The food was good. But the service quality can largely degrade the overall feeling of the whole experience. I din at 5-star restaurants all over the world (in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, London, Beverly Hills, etc.). I rank Toronto very high since I find the servers are professional and attentive in general. Maybe it was just my unlucky night."

  • "Spectacular food and service, in a beautiful room. What more could you ask for? My husband and I went for a luxe 2-course brunch for my birthday. For the first course, we had the Quince Tartine and Fried Duck Egg; second course was the Duck Confit Hash and Ox Tail + Grits. Everything was rich and delicious. We were quite full after this and I suggested we forego the dessert course (available for an additional $8). Unbeknownst to me, my hubby had called ahead and requested their Apple Tarte Tatin with Maple Ice Cream. They had plated it with a candle and chocolate writing. It was the perfect end to a delightful meal."

  • "My husband and I did the 7 course/wine pairing dinner - It was outstanding, we had a great server in Denis - patient, reserved very professional - Lovely. Sommelier kept pouring, it was a fantastic treat - Can't wait to do it again. I recommend the pork belly - The hand made pasta dishes were also other worldly. Can't wait to do this again!"

  • "Cafe Boulud is our go-to restaurant for special occasions, and has never disappointed. Outstanding service and very imaginative food preparation and presentation. All of our dishes on this visit (trying new items) were excellent, and the only criticism was inconsistent portion size on our main courses. One dish was a very generous plate of North Atlantic swordfish in a Basque style, but the other was a rather tiny serving of scallops, the same portion size as our previous appetizers. Quite delicious, but too small by comparison to the usual main course items on the Boulud menu. Our server agreed and said he would mention it to the kitchen manager, but we heard nothing further. In any event, we still love eating here, and recommend it."

  • "It was the perfect place for friends to meet; comfortable table, attentive service and wonderful menu. Two of us shared the tender and ample veal shank. The Digby scallops were a small but tender offering. Two of us had the sea bass and one had the steak. All the plates were empty at the end of the meal. The wine steward was knowledgeable. We has a good Aussie white and a so-so Niagra blend. I still haven't found a decent Ontario wine but keep trying. Our waiter had reading glasses for those who needed to see the menu; nice touch. The food is crafted by people who know how to make eating pleasurable. Just go there!"

  • "We ordered the Chef selected 5 course meal with wine pairing and it was delightful. The Chef ensured all selections met our preferences and they even mixed up wines and dishes between the couples so everyone could try a bit more of what was offered/available. Jordan, our sommelier for the evening, picked amazing selections and was very informative about each one. He and all the wait staff made it a very enjoyable evening. We would definitely recommend it to others and turn ourselves!"

  • "Went to Cafe Boulud during Winterlicious, which is generally hit or miss as everyone knows. We were very impressed by the quality of the food, the complexity of the dishes, and the service at Cafe Boulud, and would definitely go back during or outside of 'liciouses. We went to Canoe a week before, ad Cafe Boulud was hundreds of times better."

  • "Got a last minute reservation for 8 people in their private room. Relaxed fine dining. Really great waitstaff and service. Our servers were unobtrusive but there when you needed them. Wine glasses were kept always partially filled. Never felt rushed. Try the grapefruit givre. Venison was lovely."

  • "This was visit number 20 or so for us and the first time I have posted a review. The food here is so superior to most of the restaurants in Yorkville that it really should be regarded as the best restaurant in the area if not the province. The menu is always full of new and delicious selections that you would never get elsewhere. A Winterlicious must-visit if you can get in. Hats off to D. Boulud and his amazing staff in Toronto."

  • "We went to Café Boulud for Sunday Brunch and enjoyed it immensely. Brunch consisted of two courses from a menu that was extensive, including traditional dishes as well as the unusual. Service was attentive. Fully priced but still worth every penny."

  • "Very disappointing dinner. The lobster salad was refreshing but the rest of our dinner was in need of help. The vension was cut too thick which resulted in the meat being chewy. The sides were good. The Sea Bass wrapped in potato served on a puree of potato lacked flavour. The menu needs work."

  • "I had a great time at Cafe Boulud. Dinner at 9:00 on valentine's day. The ambiance was great...nice low lighting and noise level. The waiter we had was excellent...not to intrusive nor did he pull a disappearing act and was always ready with great suggestions. The food was delicious, my venison being the highlight for me. What impressed me the most was the pacing of the meal. I didn't feel rushed yet two hours passed and we were having such a great time we didn't want to leave"
