CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $37 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 18 guest each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onwards.

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of New York City, its food is wonderful, its portions right, and usually the service is an impeccable as the cuisine. However, last Sunday was a surprising disappointment at Brunch--the service was not just bad, it appeared that we were being intentionally ignored by the wait staff. Because of the weather, numerous tables were set on the sidewalk. Was that it; they did not have enough wait staff to cover? We sat at the table for a good five minutes before someone offered water, It all went downhill from there. . This is an aberration, I know, but I fear what Easter brunch will look like, and have reservations for that as well. ."

  • "We were a little adventurous, so we didnt go for the 2/3 course prix-fixe menu, but went a la Carte. We got the Wild Salmon and the Banana leaf Halibut and both were really wonderful - the Salmon melted in the mouth. - the Pouilly Fume by the glass that we got to accompany the food was great as well. Dessert was Rhubarb with Thyme icecream and Passionfruit (?) Vacherin - both amazing. And such kind, attentive service, they even packed the madeleines for us to go because we were too full."

Dessert was fabulous as well! Dulce De Leche! Service was impeccable. Husband was less impressed with Arctic Char dish, but agrees with me regarding all else! We would not hesitate to recommend!"

  • "It's usually a sign for concern when one has a multitude of choices to make on a menus - "a mile wide and inch deep," as some might say. However, Cafe Boulud continually laughs in the face of this conventional wisdom with a beautifully broad list of choices that show a deep respect for classic technique, simplicity of quality ingredients, a constant evolution of flavors, and even a bit of a culinary trip from American modern to France to Italy to Asia. This visit was a bit of all of this with a take on a Kale salad straight from Italy, a fish with the subtle taste of the Far East and a gorgeous chocolate ending straight from France. No wonder it remains our NY favorite."

The plating a work of art, and the tastes and textures combinations a master piece. Every single dish was a perfect 10! The staff was knowledgable without being snobbish, and now we are looking for an excuse to go there again."

  • "This is my third experience with the Boulud's restaurants. First time in the Soho, second time in the West Side and now Café Boulud. Coming from French ancestors I can not understand this French restaurant. My pork loin was hard. I did ordered it well done but could be tender as I usually cook it at home. My friend ordered artichoke agnolotti with and invasive taste of lemon zest and no artichoke flavor at all. Our appetizers (two different salads) were just ok. Not really impressed. The best part, and I will celebrate, was the pastry Chef. We tried three items and all of them were really great."

  • "Expecting world class food and service, perhaps it was just a bad day, but neither hit that high expectation. We both began with the French onion soup. I thought it was very good but my partner found it too sweet. My next course was the pasta with needle pesto. It was barely warm with a flavorless pesto. I did get the attention of the waiter to add salt which seemed to liven it up but the taste was still dull. The other components which were said to be in the dish are hard to remember because the dish was mostly pasta but I remember in particular the tomato confit but it was just a teaspoonful. My partner's comment on his entre, a pork dish, was "this is tasteless"."

The average glass of wine between $20 - $25, even for the house vineyards. Would not go again. Plenty of NY spots with just as good or better food and better and more reasonably priced wines, such as the Carlyle across the street."

  • "This is just a great place. Our latest visit was for lunch to celebrate an anniversary. I had roast pork, my wife had the duck breast, each done to perfection with just perfect accompaniment. There was a very reasonably priced wine selection as well. Dessert was not just a random add-on, but a delightful conclusion to a superb meal, expertly served."

  • "I got a lot of attention, but I actually felt that it was too much. I had my dessert menu described to me before I had asked any questions, which was kind but unnecessary. I wished that I had been left alone a little more, though too much attention is better than none at all. I got the Artichoke Agnolotti, which was was tasty but not rich with flavor. The waitstaff was brilliant, and I was consistently getting refills for my coffee. We got a small, free appetizer as well as a little basket of freshly baked mini madeleines. My dessert was 'petit fours and chocolates'. There was a lot of variety, but not the small cakes I had been expecting."

Of course the $650 tab for 5 celebrators (3 wine-drinkers) was not inconsequential butculinary charms more than compensated for the cost."

  • "We arrived bright and early for breakfast on a Saturday morning; we actually were the first ones in the dining room and were greeted by the friendly hostess as soon as she opened the door. This was my second time having breakfast here, and again I opted for the brioche french toast. I also selected a side order of fresh berries. The cappuccinos they brew are by far some of the best I've ever tasted. The price is definitely worth it: savory food, a wide range of menu options, great decor, clean bathrooms and phenomenal service. I shall return!!!"

The menu is charismatically divided into "tradition", "seasonal", "garden" ('potager' in french) and "voyage"; ordering off the traditional and seasonal side of the menu was probably the most successful in overall terms but the most eccentric offerings from garden and global influence scored high on interest. The only minor quibble was being relegated to the bar for 45 minutes prior to seating; however the bar list is extensive and the bar service and ambience is excellent."
