A word from Café Boulud
CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $37 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 18 guest each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onwards.

Lovely dining room, great service, and consistently delicious food. Nothing to complain about except grossly overpriced wine list which has become standard at most NYC restaurants other than Danny Meyers'. Markups are 250 to 300 percent of restaurant's price. Add a 20% on top of that for tip and a $40 wine quickly approaches $150. Having said that, I had the Brazilian seafood starter (moqueca)and the Brazilian lamb entree which were both great, my wife had the scallops, which were perfect, and the other couple we dined with had the roast chicken for two which was the best chicken I've had in a long while. I like this place.

I've never had a bad Boulud meal and my first visit to the Cafe was no exception. The man can plan and execute a menu. Unfortunately, the service was a bit underwhelming and lacking warmth, for either the customers or the food. The dining room was also too hot--a number of gentlemen had removed their suit jackets and someone at the table next to our mentioned it to a member of staff. But the food--three courses--was great, as was the wine list. No surprise on either of those. But for those prices, I expect a bit more coordinated service (eg wine before food please) and a bit more warmth for their guests and pride of their food.

The ambiance, service and overall look of Cafe Boulud is amazing. We've been there quite a few times over the years, and have always loved it, love being there, saw a famous actor, but the food is not up to par. It's ok, but not amazing, which it should be for the prices they charge. I had beef wellington, ordered it medium, it came out rare. The taste of the beef wasn't all that great, the quality of it could've been a lot better. There are too many other great places in NYC, I don't know if we'll be back.

Overlooked gnocchi containing undercooked onions unless they were water chestnuts Small over browned serving of skate wing with very small garnish of vegetables. I've always touted this place as the best in ny. But the flowers were lackluster the water never refilled even though glass was almost empty the bread server dour. Place was one quarter full so staff was not too busy to give more gracious service

My husband and I had lunch reservations following a fashion show - we arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. They kept our water and wine glasses filled, but quietly and discreetly. I had the melon gazpacho, which was amazing. I smiled through the entire bowl - the flavors were so fresh and bright, yet complex. We both had the flank steak, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to our requests. The vegetables were on the most flavorful puree. I hate carrots and could not stop eating them. Dessert was the chocolate pound cake, which was delicious as well. The portions were exactly the right size for lunch, and my husband and I left completely satisfied, but not stuffed. Perfection.

For my son's birthday I invited him to dine at this well-known E-side restaurant. We sat outside as the weather was nice. They had some party inside & apparently couldn't deal with the people outside. We waited more than an hour to get the main course. The scallops were below average, and my son's dual-veal dish was inedible, cold, chewy & tasteless. The rest was so unmemorable that I actually can't remember what else we ate, except a green salad which was equally disappointing - hard to mess up a green salad! - My whisky was fine, but my son's 2 glasses of red were grossly overpriced @ $20.00 each I seldom fail to enjoy dining out, but I will not repeat the experience of Café Boulud.

I was staying at The Surrey and had heard great things about Cafe Boulud. My two twenty-something children and I celebrated my birthday at dinner there last Sunday and it was outstanding. We're a restaurant aware group, having dined at many of the great restaurants in the US and internationally, and we were extremely pleased by the food and the service. My highest recommendation.

The host and waitstaff were very professional and attentive. I haven't experienced such professionalism in this industry in a long time. There was enough staff to handle the number of tables they have, which is also a pleasure, they fully spoke English and they listened to me, answered my questions and understood me. I had multiple special requests because of the dietary needs of my guests and because this was a business dinner with multiple out of town guests who required special accomodation in other ways. They fully took care of it for me. Also, the temperature and ambiance in there was wonderful. I was very comfortable physically. I really had a great experience here.

I went for Saturday lunch because this place is very convenient to go to Whitney Museum. We had their prix fix, Three Courses for $43.00. I think it's a bargain. All dishes were fresh, beautiful, and satisfying. It was a little slow for prix-fixe between dishes and my husband iced tea never came, but we had nice time before the museum visit although we gave up Whitney because of the long line and went to Met. One little request for food was something seasonal for side veggies.

Cafe Boulud lives up to its reputation on all points of review. The service was notably excellent with a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable table waiting staff. Café Boulud is the personification of what is so right about the New York restaurant experience has to offer. The service is impeccable and easy. Each dish is as intricate and interesting as the last. The sommelier was brilliant in his suggestions that worked perfectly with the meal. But in the end it was the duo of veal that was as enjoyable as the restaurant scene in When Harry Met Sally..."YES!"...

Nothing special at all to trip to the restaurant for breakfast even though you live a block away. I was very upset that my bill was charged automatically 20% for service even though I told my waiter that I was not staying at the hotel(the restaurant is at the Surrey Hotel) when he asked me before I received my bill. Manager said if I stay at the hotel, the system charges 20% for service, but on my bill, there was no blank line asking for room #. I have been to this restaurant many times and it never happened me before or I have never noticed auto 20% service charge on my previous bills…? Why the waiter thought that he could decide how much I should spend for his service? It was my decision and it was my money!!!

The service was good and the food was delicious at our lunch for 2 on a Thursday afternoon. The atmosphere is quiet and sedate. The menu offered a two-course lunch for $37.00, choosing any 2 courses from a menu listing appetizers, main courses and desserts. I ordered a salad appetizer (delicious) and a pasta main course (spaghettini puttanesca with an anchovy flavor- delicious). My dining partner ordered a chicken dish. Her portion wasn't large, but was entirely adequate. My portion of spaghetti was minuscule. It was served in a soup bowl with a huge rim and tiny center. We thought at first I had mistakenly ordered an appetizer portion, but checking the menu verified that it was a main course. A stingy portion.

Here is an elite restaurant--fantastic French cuisine, fun crowd, electric atmosphere--that will actually honor a diner's request for a spot for easy conversation. While enjoying the lively scene, a pair of friends too-long apart could catch up on each other's news over an elegant, yet leisurely meal, launched with perfect martinis and accompanied by an eloquent wine. The staff seemed to anticipate our needs, yet never were intrusive. Cafe Boulud provided a thoroughly delightful dining experience.

We had a delicious meal spoiled by the arrogance and rudeness of two waiters. We ordered glasses if wine instead of the expected bottle. To be honest we had an early start next morning and didn't want any more alcohol and as far as i kniw the customer can order what they like! This request was received with a snort from the waiter. We asked to wait awhile between main course amd dessert. After 10 minutes the waiter returned to ask if he could start preparing it. He returned with it 10 seconds later!!!!! They received a derisory tip and an explanation on the bill as to why. W were in and out of the restaurant in an hour and 15 mins. Rushed through by very uppity staff.
