Diner Reviews
  • "I have gone to Cafe Bizou for many years. I was pleasantly surprised (years ago) by their prix fixed menu. Now, the prix fix menu needs to be discarded in favor of higher prices with better cuisine. Sorry, a 2.5 cm square of halibut and over cooked vegetables was not good cuisine. It was a small plate. So... Cafe Bizou wants to proclaim a prix fix menu, but portion size has shrunk considerably. It should be titled small plate - price fixed. Sorry.... I would never order from this menu again... but wonder truly, if the full size menu is really going to be better. Sadly, I was very disappointed."

  • "It was beautiful. I was able to get a corner booth, and could look into the restaurant. The atmosphere and service was wonderful, the food could have been a little bit better. We had the fixed menu. But I will definitely come back and tru something else. Thanks again!!!"

  • "We had a Party of 7 (from Orange County and West Hollywood) We were promptly seated. Our Waiter: Alexandro was great. We All enjoyed the Salmon and Lobster Mousse Raviolis for starter (Excellent!) Everyone's Entrees were excellently prepared and to everyone likes. We shared three excellent desserts among us. The $2.00 Corkage charge is very appealing and was a deal closer for our reservation as well. We will all be back!!"

  • "Although we dined on a Thursday night and it was not crowded at all, our waiter did not provide very good service. A family sat next to us approximately 10 minutes after we arrived, yet our waiter took their order before ours, their food was delivered before us, etc. We had to specifically tell our waiter we were ready to order our main meal as well as our dessert. He was NOT attentive at all. I wish I had gotten his name, but I forgot."

  • "The food was excellent, there were 3 of us and we had different entrées, a fish, chicken and steak. We all were extremely satisfied, everything was well prepared. We will be returning."

  • "They put up a wonderful 3 courses menu with great selection for just $28."

  • "While the food rates 4 stars, the service was mediocre and noise level high. We were seated in bar area, so that might explain the high noise level. Also, carpet was VERY worn in spots -- place definitely needs a "facelift". We had not been there for a while, and were very pleased to find that the food was still delicious. Go for the food and $3.00 corkage fee -- can't be beat!"

  • "The prix fixed menu is a bargain which coupled with a corkage charge of only $2.00 makes the 15 mile trip tolerable in light of gasoline now at $4.25/gallon. Nice intimate seating is available in limited numbers."

  • "This is one of my favorite places to dine. Had my first poor meal...rack of lamb...I always order this but this time it wasn't cooked enough, meat was tough and very fatty. I should have sent it back but was with a group and din't want to wait as they were all eating. I will be back as this is still a great dining spot."

  • "We have enjoyed the food and they are very low corkage fee. It is great to bring your favorite wine and enjoy good food with it. Give them at try!"

  • "Service was poor from the wait staff as well as from the time it took to receive the food from the kitcen."

  • "6pm dinner and we arrived just before a rush. The split pea soup was a bit disappointing only in that I was expecting the usual pureed cream style split pea. The chicken au jus and the ahi tuna were both very good. The side dishes were well prepared. The dishes were well presented. By the time we left, they were packed! This was a Tuesday night. This tells me that people have come to know Café Bizou as a preferred spot for dinning no matter the day of week. Because they were so busy, the service suffered (coffee not refilled in spite of several requests and promises to refill forgotten). The atmosphere and décor are quite nice and Café Bizou is still one of my favorites in Pasadena."

  • "Great prices, and signature dish- Alaskan Sand dabs delicious. The Cesar salad with anchovies was also delicious and only few dollars with the entree. Only wish I'd had room for dessert!"

  • "One of my all time favorites in Pasadena. Service was good but food was better. Staff accommodated our seating requests. Crowded but staff still made us feel like we were the only two there. Drinks were delicious. Just what a couple need to connect on a date. Highly recommended."

  • "We came for lunch on a Saturday and decided to have the 3 course prix fixe menu - which was only $15. The food was great, we all really enjoyed our selections. The salmon came in for extra praise from those who ordered it. 2 of us decided to swap out the dessert for a glass of wine, and we were even impressed by the house wine. How they manage to do this deal for $15, I have no idea. We'll definitely return."

  • "Usually we come for dinner, but came for lunch after church ts time. Very quiet setting; affording time for conversation. The $2.00 corkage is a plus. Even as gasoline is at $4.00, it is worth the drive."

  • "Saturday night. Made reservation for 7:45. Actually arrived on time at 7:45. The girl told us to way a few minutes which ended up becoming 20mins. We ordered our food within 5-10mins, then proceeded to wait another 45 mins for the main course. Thank goodness for appetizers and bread."

  • "I dine at Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks all the time, we love their food and their specials. This is only the second time we dine at the Pasadena location and there was a French waiter that just made dining there "not enjoyable". He didn't come back to us to see if we wanted anything, a couple of times my husband (who has a very loud voice) had to call out to him very loud because he was either ignoring us or couldn't hear. At the end of the meal two of us asked for coffee but we never received the coffee just the bill. So we paid and stayed for a while and saw him checking how much tip had been left!!!"

  • "My three guests from NYC and I were very impressed. The service was friendly and efficient. We all had the 3-Course Lunch Special and all raved about the food. My escargot was exceptional and the seafood with black pasta, excellent, as was the tiramisu. The interior of the restaurant is very classy. Even though this location is 36 miles from my Orange County home, I intend to come back for dinner."

  • "We've been going to Cafe Bizou for years and always enjoy eating there. The food is good, there are white table cloths , and it is quiet enough that one can have a conversation, linger and not feel rushed. The wine list is reasonably priced but a big plus is the $2 corkage charge that makes it possible to bring your favorite wines. The total experience is both very enjoyable and affordable!"

  • "We took the train from A Noise Within Theatre after a matinee and arrived easily at 5:00 when the restaurant opened. It is a very short walk from t he station. It was a perfect after-the-theater experience. We had a sophisticated French dinner served with grace and professionalism. The staff is particularly charming here, and the ambience is lovely."

  • "Have eaten at CB many times. I prefer ambiance and charm of Pasadena in general and the clubby, warm decor of the Pasadena location. Food always great & well priced. I love the varied pre-fixe menu -- 3 courses & at an amazingly good & fair price. We had a reservation for 8:30, got seated quickly. It must have been incredibly busy night as they were out of the pre fixe entree I wanted -- steak and lobster tail -- but server suggested another item off that menu and it was delicious. I was disappointed they were also out of au gratin potatoes & french bread, substituting something soft and not worth eating. I will definitely go back at an earlier time so they don't run out of items.. This has happened before."

  • "Excellent food and service, all at a moderate price. Our favorite Pasadena restaurant."

  • "My last visit to Café Bizou of Pasadena, was very disappointing. The shells of the escargots were “jumbo size.” The escargots themselves were no more than half an inch. They were so small I had trouble fishing them out of the shells! I told my wife Café Bizou must be playing a practical joke on me! My main course of “Shrimps and Lobster” was even worse! The lobster meat was appallingly overcooked – it had the consistency of mashed potatoes, and my wife agreed. The Chef, apparently, chopped up some canned lobster meat, inexcusably overcooked it, and stuffed some ridiculously small lobster tails with it. However, the service was good. And to be fair, my wife’s dinner -The steak frites - was excellent (her own word!)"

  • "it was amazing. Great service and the food was delicious. I will be returning soon. the escargot was so good. Perfect evening."

  • "Decent food, great ambience, and a corkage policy that's an oenophile's best friend ($2/bottle). Some of the food is quite good (the escargots, for example, are delicious), while other food can arrive looking and tasting like it's been sitting around a while, so choose wisely. If you order fish make sure you ask for it "medium rare", as the kitchen has a tendency to overdo it, although they get the beef doneness right; could be due to the fact a lot of their clientele is seniors... The service is attentive and courteous, and the $2 Caesar salad is a gem."

  • "We've been coming here for dinners bt this was the first time for lunch. It was very quiet and relaxing time. The $2.00 corkage charge more than offsets the cost of driving here from Hollywood."

  • "The rack of lamb is terrific, as is just about everything on the menu. The $2 corkage is a very nice feature. Pleasant ambience and good service, all at a moderate price. Our favorite Pasadena restaurant."

  • "Bizou is known for its good value, sure it is few dollars less than other places, but sometimes the quality suffers too. We went on a Sat.night at 6:30 and the place was full and noisy, fortunately we got a table a bit out of the main stream. The food was OK but the service was not. The waiter was charming with a real gift of gab, but there where you huge gaps between the times we saw him. Not much was notable during this visit."
