Diner Reviews
  • "Awful awful !! How embarrassing ! Took two friends for dinner &!will never go back...the planked salmon was dry ,,,my other friend had lamb chops. & they were so thin and overlooked even though she ordered them medium rare..mine were just as bad...the vegetables tasted like they were left over from the night before! A big waste of money!"

  • "Celebrated a friend's birthday with dinner there over the 4th of July weekend. The restaurant had a nice table set aside next to the corner of Raymond & Holly with big window and a view of the Old Town promenade on Raymond. We brought a couple of bottles of wine for only $1 corkage fee! Also, an additional salad or soup is between $1 - $2. Good, competent country/bistro French cooking. Good service without being hovering. Each of us enjoyed our dinners, of whitefish, steak, chicken and vegetarian. A surprisingly large selection of fish entrees. (The only disappointment was the escargot: tiny portions and flavorless)."

  • "Excellent service and no pricey corkage fee. The food was very good. I wish there were more vegan options, though."

  • "Salmon salads were poor - overcooked and very small/thin salmon - not at all tender. Very small portions for price. Mushroom appetizer was ridiculous - only two mushrooms and very poor imagination. The steaks were very good, but portions (especially sides) were very small for price. We've enjoyed very good dinners at Bizou in Sherman Oaks, but this was quite a disappointment."

  • "While some parts of our meal were very good, most were simply average. Bread could have been bought at the grocery, and the Asian pear salad was nothing special. On the other hand, the salmon with citrus salsa was very good. On the prix fixe menu, the filet with lobster tail was at best average. Wine list is nothing special at all. Prices seem to be the appeal of the place. Overall, one gets what one pays for."

  • "We have been going to Cafe Bizou for years. It is dependably excellent...it is nice to go someplace where folks are dressed nicely (not fancy) and there are no shorts and flip flops!"

  • "The location, the ambiance were very good. Food was outstanding and the prices very reasonable! BUT the service was really poor, every body, except the receptionist, were rude and aloof."

  • "We drove after church for lunch and found it very quiet...different from an earlier Sunday lunch. We miss not being able to order sweetbreads which is only available on the dinner menu. The $2.00 corkage is frosting on the cake. I reviewed the wine list for the first time and was surprised at how excellent was the pricing. Excellent escargot as usual."

  • "Over the years that we have been going to Cafe Bizou, we have enjoyed it. When we went most recently, some things were excellent (the soup and the salmon dish) and others were not remarkable. (chicken cordon bleu). We still plan to go back but will order other items."

  • "The food was delicious as always. The service was professional and charming. We had a delightful evening. Missed the longer wine list, but adequate selection to choose from at very reasonable prices."

  • "Always excellent service and food. Waitstaff and staff very pleasant. Good distance between tables makes conversation possible."

  • "I have been to Café Bizou a number of times. Sometimes for intimate conversations, sometimes for business discussions. The restaurant always looks sharp and always makes a good impression. The food likewise...dependably top notch. We both had salmon. Mine was the Salad Nicoise and they had the grilled salmon and both were great! On this occasion we took advantage of the fixed price lunch special and it was more than enough (with soup/salad and dessert included) leaving us totally satisfied at a very reasonable price. We were able to take care of business and enjoy a great dining experience! I'll be back, of course. Café Bizou deserves 5 stars AND 5 kisses: xxxxx!"

  • "We have visited Cafe Bizou several times and when I do not want to guess if our evening is going to turn out OK, I book my reservations at Cafe Bizou. Never had a bad experience and we will continue to dine there."

  • "Food is good for lunch, not for special occasion ( like Father's Day )."

  • "We took my husband for Father's Day. Seated right away. Very nice staff; attentive and efficient. Had a delicious dinner & wonderful evening!"

  • "The restaurant staff were polite and helpful. My white wine was poured into the glass for red wine. Not a tremendously big deal, but servers should know the difference. Our waiter was quite good, although, it took a long time after eating to get our check."

  • "The monthly prix fixe menu is what attracts us. We came mid-week to see how things stacked up with our usual weekend dining. Everything was up to par with excellent service. They added frogs legs to the appetizer offerings. They were OK, pretty much on the skinny side; I'll stick with the escargot next time. It was nice to be remembered by the server from prior visits. The $2.00 corkage continues to be the "cherry on top of the frosting."."

  • "We went to Cafe Bizou after our son's high school graduation and had a wonderful time. We had not been there in a while, but upon return we found that the cuisine was still excellent, as was the ambiance. A thoroughly enjoyable experience."

  • "We have eaten at this restaurant many times, over many years and have enjoyed it. However, the last couple of times we have eaten at Cafe Bizou the food has not been great. Its really just OK. The service is slow and preoccupied with flirting with the young girls in our group. It took way too long to get change back from our bill. We wondered if the waiter was just going to keep the change. We expect more from a well known Pasadena restaurant."

  • "I have had lunch or dinner at Cafe Bizou several times, and always found it to be reliable: the food reliably tasty and the service reliably attentive. This time, neither the food nor service lived up to my memory of it: the soup and salads came within about 5 minutes of ordering, then we waited 30 minutes for the main course. The soup was not hot and we had to get up and ask the hostess to do something about it because there were no waiters to be seen. When the main courses finally came, two out of three were room temperature, and again we had to go to some lengths to find a waiter to do something about it. What finally came was pretty good, but we shouldn't have to work quite that hard at getting a decent meal. "

  • "Café Bisou - Pasadena - is always consistent. We know when we go there we will get good food BUT the best part is their service. Their servers are the best in town -- very attentive to our needs. The corkage fee is minimal which is also a plus. We love this place and it is our "go to" restaurant when we have company in town."

  • "Very good service great selection on the menu. Easy to find parking around the area . We enjoy our meal and have a great time . Highly recommend "

  • "For the first time I was dissatisfied with the food at Bizou. In the past I have been a big fan of their well prepared dishes. At lunch, on 5/17, my chicken pannini was small and blah. My friend's salmon salad was lackluster, particularly in its presentation. The 3rd member of our group was the only one pleased with her meal, steak tenderloins. I'm sad that my "go to" place can no longer be relied on for tasty meals, done with panache."

  • "Our waiter was exceptionally friendly and courteous. He explained the food to us, as I ordered he monkfish, why it is called monkfish....etc. Very nice gentleman. Sorry I forgot his name."

  • "We had a wonderful experience mainly because of our waiter Luis. He made recommendations, was friendly, courteous, and prompt. The lobster feast pre fix was a bonus, but the waiter made all the difference."

  • "I like this restaurant. The quality of food and service is consistent."

  • "The Lobster Fest menu looked good, but we opt for their regular monthly prix fixe menu. The Mac 'n' cheese was very tasty and quite rich, but I didn't leave one bite. As usual, we took advantage of the $2.00 corkage and brought out "bubbly" to pair the food. We always look forward to the sweetbreads while we catch-up on our activities. With gas @ $4.899 in our neighborhood, feeding a gas guzzler adds a tad to our dining out tab, but still worth it to get a menu we like. "

  • "I entertained friends on a Monday evening. Our Caesar salads were a bit limp and soggy, but entrees were ok. My Macadamia Nut Encrusted Halibut was properly cooked, but not sure 4 pencil-thin asparagus really constitute more than a taste. One friend had short ribs and said they were tasty if a bit fatty. The menu isn't particularly exciting or creative, but there are plenty of choices. Service was good with an attentive wait staff."

  • "Went for Mother's Day and was very disappointed. One person ordered the filet mignon and fries, steak medium. Steak came raw, it was less than rare and the fries weren't even cooked all the way. They were limp frozen style fries. Another person ordered a white fish and it wasn't that great either. We got the apple tart desert and it was average, with the exception of some plastic in it. The last thing that was frustrating but not really their fault is they have single restrooms and someone was potty training their child and while he screamed the whole time in the ladies room for over 20 minutes a line grew. Nobody came to advise there was another restroom somewhere else, while many servers walked by. A few just used the mens room!"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "They do a consistently great job with great service...but this Mother's Day was not their best day. Seemed like the kitchen was backed up. Food came out in bits and pieces, and didn't see our server for long periods of time. Food was great, but overall it was not my best experience there. Still recommend though."

  • "We went to Cafe Bizou on Mothers' Day, probably their busiest day of the year. In spite of that, everything was cooked to perfection and service was attentive. It couldn't have been better."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Went for dinner on Mother's Day and the place felt dirty. I ordered pasta with sea scallops and chunks of lobster - I found no scallops and what was supposed to pass as chunks of lobster were pinkish brown ground up particles, too small to decipher their origin. My friend had whitefish and her pasta was so dried out a crust had formed on the noodles. Neither of us ate much. My adult daughter had the sirloin burger and said it was good. The "medium" cooked patty was a grey tile of ground beef and did not look like a $15-$17 burger. I kept apologizing since I was the one who suggested dining there. There were loud, gross people all around us and the restaurant was so hot we fanned ourselves with the menus until they were removed. "

  • "Café Bizou continues to be my restaurant of choice, when it comes to fine dining on special occasions. The menu is quite varied and their French Martinis are always perfect!!!"

  • "Decided to try this restaurant based on reading some positive reviews, but found that the experience was sorely lacking. The state of the restaurant suggests a lack of diligence in keeping it up. The food was more than disappointing: the tuna appetizer was sloppy and medicore, and the steak I ordered was very underdone -- when I asked for it to be brought up to temperature, the chef apparently put my entire plate under the broiler, so that I got back a plate of scorched potatoes, broccoli, and spinach -- and the steak was still too rare. I ended up declining another attempt at the entree and went elsewhere to finish my meal."

  • "We love to come for special occasions and love the prix fixe events. A reasonable price. The salmon was delicious. Also tried the lobster Mac and cheese which was delicious. A favorite is always the flour less chocolate cake. "

  • "Our group was there for lunch after the Showcase House & everyone loved it. I go to the one in Sherman Oaks all the time & so I suggested this; one even though I had never been to this location before. It met all expectations. Some in the group had never been to a Cafe Bizou, but will definitely return. We were pleasantly surprised by the Prix fixed lunch menus & all in all had a great time at lunch"
