Diner Reviews
  • "This place was great! The only thing to remember is that it is a tapas place. The dishes are tiny and often meant for sharing small portions with others. You typically order 2-4 tapas dishes per person depending on how hungry everyone is... I went with a friend and we ordered 7 different tapas dishes and shared all of them. They also offer paella, which is a bigger dish that can follow a smaller sampling of tapas dishes if you so choose. (We did not, this time). The desserts were amazing and also are small portions. I particularly love this style because I have a hard time deciding what to get and this way you can taste many things at one sitting!"

  • "The restaurant has a small exterior from the street but it has a large seating area inside and another glass covered porch/outside area. The food was very good, chorizo and chicken tapas were especially delicious. It is difficult to go wrong with any of the tapas. The paellas were delicious, you have to order them for two people so if you have two people in your party and if you like to try different types of paellas you are out of luck. Service was on the slow side, our tapas came one at a time and one of them arrived after our main dish arrived. The server said he was trying to pace them so we have something on our table all the time. We end of having only one tapas at our table at one time. The sangrias were delicious too."

  • "The restaurant has nice lighting and mood to it. We ordered 11 "entree" tapas and multiple dessert tapas too. Each one of them was excellent. We had wonderful service. They were also very nice to accommodate us coming a little late due to rush hour traffic and difficult street parking (they do have valet service though). They also accommodated my request to sit in a certain section of the restaurant."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants. They keep their good reputation. Always add something new. Mussels were great and a variation on their octopus interesting. Their Spanish sausages are amazing."

  • "This was the first time I've gone that it wasn't totally packed. My wife and I always enjoy the foor, but our waitress this time was not up to snuff. She seemed slightly put off when we asked for the gluten free menu. My wife and son have a gluten allergy, and it just seemed like it offended her. When we were first seated, I asked if the ceiling fan could be turned down slightly because it was blowing straight down on me at full speed. The waitress said that if I could reach the cord, I was welcome to do so. So I DID! Seems crazy to me that they would allow me to stick my hand anywhere near a fan going full speed. The food was great as usual though."

  • "I was amazed by the dinner/show size. I found it very comfortable. Just the right amount of seating. Everyone had a view. One thing which I don't see how it could be fixed but the bar sounds comes though the main entrance during the performance."

  • "Visisting from Michigan and it was our first time didning at Cafe' Ba-Ba-Reeba. I absolutely LOVED the restaurant. Great tapas and sangria! We will be back the next time we are visiting Chicago."

  • "It's always great to be able to try so many different things. Party of 3 tried 11 menu items plus a pitcher of peach sangria. All of the food was delicious. The special of crispy pork belly was tremendous. Server left a bit to be desired but the guys delivering and cleaning up the table were wonderful. Left a note on reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. When we mentioned it during our dinner the server replied with an 'oh, yeah. I saw a note about that.'"

  • "CB does brunch right! Tapas AND single sized dishes. Share or eat your own. Food delish. A special WOOHOO for Quinn, our waiter. We were 6 plus a baby and his service was seamless. On top of the table without being on top of us. As always, we will be back!"

  • "Loved the ability to have a little bit of everything for brunch. The tapas were perfectly sized to share with a dining companion, and the pintxos, though they were supposed to be one to two bites, were generous in size. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was delicious as well!"

  • "After 10 years of hearing about Cafe Babareba I was finally able to visit myself. My husband and I took my daughter and friend (college age) for a wonderful dinner last Saturday night. We had made reservations and still waited 20 minutes but that was the only down side. Definitely order the bacon wrapped dates(awesome!)"

  • "I found the Sangria tasteless, watery...and I recall some very tasty Sangria at my last visit Also miss the open air aspect of the patio..but certainly understand why one would enclose it"

  • "We had an amazing evening! The food was excellent and our waiter was fantastic!!! I cannot remember his name but he is from Minneapolis and of course we bonded over that! It was our first time at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba and I will make it a tradition to come back every time I am in Chicago."

  • "Cafe Ba Ba Reeba will always be a favorite spot for me and my friends. This experience was no different than usual. Great food, great sangria, fast service. Although I hope the price of the Sangria doesn't continue to rise. That used to be something I really loved about Ba Ba Reeba - that is was affordable."

  • "We came back after 10 years and it was still great. Our kids joined us and they enjoyed the tapas style. The only downside is the nois level inside...it is really loud. Makes it easy with kids, but hard to talk."

  • "This place is still going strong after more than 25 years; it was an old haunt when we lived in the neighborhood in the late 80s. We were very happy to get a table in the quiet room in the back because we wanted to catch up with friends/business acquaintences visiting from out of town; it can be noisy elsewhere but was perfect for us. The staff was friendly and the service attentive and unobtrusive. Wines by the glass were very good and reasonably priced. We ordered a couple of plates of tapas (the potatoes and the mushrooms, both very good) and paella. The vegetable paella was just okay, not as flavorful as some, but that was really the only thing that wasn't pretty much perfect."

  • "They have a lot of gluten free options, including gluten free bread! If you are really familiar with eating gluten free you can order of the regular menu with some gluten free common sense. The gluten free menu that they offer is not very big in comparison to the regular menu. I have ordered off the regular menu being gluten free conscious and have been just fine."

  • "The food was beyond amazing. Everything we ordered was good. I can't wait to go back and try other things. They have something for everyone."

  • "The food is consistently phenomenal. Crave-worthy dishes like Fried Calamari and Spicy Potatoes leads me to eat here almost weekly. Despite the place being always busy the service is great and servers go above and beyond with dietary restrictions. It's also somehow appropriate for every single occasion."

  • "Best sangria in Chicago for its price!! Great menus and specials, as well. It's one of my favorite spots for medium- large size groups looking to drink because of the sangria pitchers."

  • "We were visiting from out of town and got reservations at Café Ba-Ba-Reeba (which I'd highly recommend, as they were very bustling and busy!). The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, recommending personal favorites from the expansive tapas menu. We started with a pitcher of sangria and then the two of us ordered three rounds of two tapas each (this ended up being a lot more food than we'd expected...we left VERY full but it was hard to decide from the unique options). The only negative I can possibly think of is that the bill adds up quickly, but that's the case with any tapas restaurant. There were only two of us and we had a blast, but most of the restaurant was filled with groups out for a fun night. We'll definitely be back."

  • "We went to Cafe BaBaReeba on a visit to Chicago after a recommendation from our host at a B&B. It was a good experience: the tapas were varied and flavoursome and delivered at appropriate intervals. The advice from our server was very useful - good descriptions of the dishes. A question though: why, when serving two people, does each dish contain an odd number of items? A very small matter. The ambience was not in the least Spanish - in fact there wasn't any, really. It's a big place and we were in a back room on a weeknight and we'd booked in advance but didn't know to request any particular spot. The food was tasty, the service seamless and overall the experience was a good one. We'd go back."

  • "I have been to Cafe Ba Ba Reeba many times and it never disappoints. Might be my favorite restaurant in the city. Highlights of this trip were the patatas bravas and the short rib. We also had a mini chocolate cake for dessert that was the perfect end to the meal!"

  • "Once again Cafe Babareeba delivers on outstanding food. The shaved brussel sprout salad was very tasty and so were the dates. I have been here 3x in the last 10 weeks and I love it. I will definitely keep coming back."

  • "Went for dinner on a Monday night and was able to snag a prime-time reservation but the restaurant was packed the entire evening. Enjoyed the spicy potatoes, brussels sprouts salad, short rib, pork loin/pork belly skewers, and scallops. The stuffed mushrooms were not worth it. I'd say our favorites that night were the potatoes and scallops. And the blackberry sangria is always good!"

  • "My husband and I chose this place because it offered a fun tapas brunch menu to the standard brunch other places offer. We had a nice morning with delicious food. Definitely recommend ordering multiple waffle-battered chicken sticks! I also enjoyed my café mocha."

  • "The food at cafe Ba Ba Reeba is by far one of the best in the city. My girlfriend and I have gone several times and have never had a bad meal. We tried another local tapas restaurant just to compare and they had nothing on Ba Ba Reeba. The food here is always fresh, the flavors always delicious, and the ambience is perfect. Will definitley be back!"
