A word from Cafe Atlantico - St. Augustine
Hailing from the vibrant city of Naples, Paolo Pece is a certified master chef by the Italian Culinary Institute located in that ancient city. Chef Pece completed his training in his brother’s bistro during a two-year apprenticeship working under a European master chef before moving to New York City. There he worked as a sous chef in Al Bacio restaurant on the Upper East Side. Before opening his own restaurant in 1999, he served as Executive Chef for Il Ristorante in Chambersburg, Penn.
At Cafe Atlantico, food and art provide a sensory feast in Chef Pece’s intimate and elegant contemporary Italian restaurant. The freshest seafood, pork, steak, pasta, poultry, and Italian specialty ingredients are prepared using classical cooking techniques and the menu changes seasonally. House made desserts include authentic tiramisu, panna cotta, and torta caprese; and the wine list features numerous Italian varietals and vintages as well as boutique wines from all over the world.

  • "We walked over to this intimate restaurant and had a very pleasant meal. We started with a towering veggie appetizer, it was very good then on to our main courses. The main course was quite abundant. I didn't need a first course. I was glad I shared that with my spouse. The seafood bouillabaisse was terrific. A nice broth too. The restaurant was mostly quiet until two groups of 4 came in. The best food we had in St Augustine, and yes, we eat in downtown too."

  • "I really enjoy this place. We were house hunting again and specifically stayed overnight to have dinner here. Called ahead of time to make sure they had clams and found out that my favorite dish was now an appetizer but the hostess/server checked to make sure an entree size would be possible. Lovely, as usual. My boyfriend had the Chilean Sea Bass and he said it was prepared very well. Wines are reasonably priced here. Love the artist works they feature for sale. We were too stuffed to try any dessert but that's for next time."

The ladies that seated us and took our order were very nice, but failed miserably on executing. The server on the first go around never took our drink order. We had to ask multiple times before they brought them.. Then here comes the kicker, we asked for straws which the server said, "Sorry we do not have straws, the owner will not allow us to have them".... I mean really? YOU DONT HAVE STRAWS! #2 Food: Eggplant parm was not fresh, bad after taste., Chicken Marsala had no taste & the Ossobuco was NOT seared properly to provide good color or taste. Ossobuco looked gray. All dishes needed salt!"

We were expecting to have a very nice meal, but even the desserts were lifeless...tiramisu had basically no flavor, the chocolate "salami" special was just so-so.   • "Café Atlantico offers good food in a quiet, cozy environment, with friendly and efficient service. It's only open for dinner and relatively quiet during the week. Our server mentioned that all dishes are made to order so the chef allows some ingredient changes. There are some standouts in the menu, e.g. beef tenderloin with portabello mushrooms and the wilted spinach starter. The ossobucco was a bit disappointing in that it is the only dish not made to order because it simmers for 8 hours, according to our server. Alas the taste should have been much richer for its 8-hour simmer than what we actually tasted. But the food is very good, and this is a lovely little restaurant in which to enjoy a quiet meal is a romantic setting."

It left our hosts who had been there before a bit embarrassed about taking us there. We probably will not go back.   • "Trip Advisor reviewer's rated this well mostly. However, the entrees were below par. Tiramisu was excellent. We are in the culinary field and were very disappointed. The beef was tough, the lamb bones not Frenched, the mushroom sauce flavorless and milky, the lamb arrived rare instead of the requested medium...the sauce decorated my plate but there was not enough to really even taste...none of my food arrived hot... Why was the place packed? I can only conclude that this is a case of the "Emperor's New Clothes" where people who don't really know food follow the comments of others. This is a restaurant located in a beach community and so that may make the food seem better by comparison to the fried food and bars available elsewhere."
