A word from Cafe Atlantico - St. Augustine
Hailing from the vibrant city of Naples, Paolo Pece is a certified master chef by the Italian Culinary Institute located in that ancient city. Chef Pece completed his training in his brother’s bistro during a two-year apprenticeship working under a European master chef before moving to New York City. There he worked as a sous chef in Al Bacio restaurant on the Upper East Side. Before opening his own restaurant in 1999, he served as Executive Chef for Il Ristorante in Chambersburg, Penn.
At Cafe Atlantico, food and art provide a sensory feast in Chef Pece’s intimate and elegant contemporary Italian restaurant. The freshest seafood, pork, steak, pasta, poultry, and Italian specialty ingredients are prepared using classical cooking techniques and the menu changes seasonally. House made desserts include authentic tiramisu, panna cotta, and torta caprese; and the wine list features numerous Italian varietals and vintages as well as boutique wines from all over the world.

Diner Reviews
  • "I saw Cafe Atlantico when I was out on a walk on Sunday. It was set in off the street. I thought this could be a quaint place to dine. I checked on some Yelp reviews. And check with the people at the Hilton Garden Inn. So, we made reservations for that night for 4. It was everything I had hoped for. Our server was terrific and very knowledgeable on their food. I am glad we went there."

  • "We their on Tuesday night on the off season. The food was great. Portions just right with great flavor mix. The service was good it is restaurant (9 tables) but there was 4 tables and she to have to much place. But the food is awesome"

  • "After driving 45 minutes to try this tiny restaurant we were schocked to find the chef/owner turns over his kitchen to an apprentice on a Friday evening. Being Italian I thought bringing friends, also Italian, to this supposedly Italian restaurant would be a good idea...not so. The food is mediocre at best and the ambiance not existing which is not really a problem, were it not for a very pleasant waitress the evening would have been a disaster. "

  • "Everything was amazing, 95% great experience except that my Salmon was entirely too salty and that's the only thing I'd change. "

  • "Sorry to say that the plates were dirty, and the drapes on the window right next to our table were filthy. The food was tasty, and our server was extremely nice and perfectly attentive (not too intrusive, but always checked on us). Just the atmosphere needs some help."

  • "Very disappointed in the quality of the food: Smoked salmon/peas/bowtie pasta in sauce was like soup - VERY watery. Coffee tasted burned even though server said she had just made it. Dessert was awful. Would never go again, but our server tried her best and said she would pass along our comments to the chef."

  • "My wife and I wanted somewhere near our hotel. Found this in the local restaurant guide. We were not disappointed. Very friendly service. A good varied menu delicious food. Great value. Can thoroughly recommend"

  • "Restaurant was full with only one inexperienced waitress. Waited 20 minutes to receive even water. This was unusual. A blip on an excellent restaurant"

  • "We walked over to this intimate restaurant and had a very pleasant meal. We started with a towering veggie appetizer, it was very good then on to our main courses. The main course was quite abundant. I didn't need a first course. I was glad I shared that with my spouse. The seafood bouillabaisse was terrific. A nice broth too. The restaurant was mostly quiet until two groups of 4 came in. The best food we had in St Augustine, and yes, we eat in downtown too."

  • "I very much enjoyed my Filet Mignon as did my husband his salmon. The wine is very over price. My Husbands white wine could not have been more than 3 oz. . The waitress was very attentive"

  • "Great food in a small gem near the beach. The owner/chef always has fresh and delicious creations. Good prices for a wonderful meal!"

  • "I really enjoy this place. We were house hunting again and specifically stayed overnight to have dinner here. Called ahead of time to make sure they had clams and found out that my favorite dish was now an appetizer but the hostess/server checked to make sure an entree size would be possible. Lovely, as usual. My boyfriend had the Chilean Sea Bass and he said it was prepared very well. Wines are reasonably priced here. Love the artist works they feature for sale. We were too stuffed to try any dessert but that's for next time."

  • "Enjoyed chef's special pasta cooked to order and signature eggplant parmesan, perfect bread and salads fresh from their garden! Always a pleasure to eat here."

  • "I have never before had a steak that was charcoal burned on the outside and so rare on the inside. overall the food we had was horrible, worst scallops in town, will never return to this restaurant again."

  • "This place should be embarrassed to call them selves an Italian Grill. #1 Service: Service was absolutely awful. The ladies that seated us and took our order were very nice, but failed miserably on executing. The server on the first go around never took our drink order. We had to ask multiple times before they brought them.. Then here comes the kicker, we asked for straws which the server said, "Sorry we do not have straws, the owner will not allow us to have them".... I mean really? YOU DONT HAVE STRAWS! #2 Food: Eggplant parm was not fresh, bad after taste., Chicken Marsala had no taste & the Ossobuco was NOT seared properly to provide good color or taste. Ossobuco looked gray. All dishes needed salt!"

  • "Outstanding food - especially the scallops! I have never had a bad meal at Cafe Atlantico and will continue to recommend it highly."

  • "Food was mediocre at best. Calamari swimming in a pool of grease. Entrees were uninspired; gnocchi was tough and dense. We were expecting to have a very nice meal, but even the desserts were lifeless...tiramisu had basically no flavor, the chocolate "salami" special was just so-so. Good wine list, but not enough to convince us to go back."

  • "...dining room with intimate feel. Service very personalized, and chef Paolo is happy to elaborate the menu. Wine list is fairly priced. And dishes offered are not run of the mill. For fine dining, this is your place. If you are looking for spaghetti and meatballs this is not the place. You will be delighted."

  • "The food was cold and the restaurant was too bright inside but the service was excellent. The waitress and hostess were very friendly and prompt. We had made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner and was a fixed menu."

  • "Intimate restaurant with excellent menu choices and attentive service. Beer and wine only but adequate wine list. Strongly recommend you book a table as the restaurant is small and intimate. Owner is the chef and each dish is prepared to order. A don't miss for locals and visitors alike."

  • "Nice place. 2nd time we've been there. Food is YUMMY. Lamb chops were not as tender as we had expected, a bit chewy and laborious to cut through. The seafood dishes were so much better, and met or exceeded our expectations. Waitress did not offer a dessert menu, nor suggest coffee. Maybe a newbie :) We will be back."

  • "We have enjoyed Cafe Atlantico since it first opened. It is our favorite special occasion restaurant in St. Augustine."
    Dined on 11/9/2013
  • "Café Atlantico offers good food in a quiet, cozy environment, with friendly and efficient service. It's only open for dinner and relatively quiet during the week. Our server mentioned that all dishes are made to order so the chef allows some ingredient changes. There are some standouts in the menu, e.g. beef tenderloin with portabello mushrooms and the wilted spinach starter. The ossobucco was a bit disappointing in that it is the only dish not made to order because it simmers for 8 hours, according to our server. Alas the taste should have been much richer for its 8-hour simmer than what we actually tasted. But the food is very good, and this is a lovely little restaurant in which to enjoy a quiet meal is a romantic setting."

  • "Service was friendly and attentive. Food was not remarkable - expensive for what it was. Wine list was reasonable. Nicely decorated. Italian background music was delightful. Chef was in Italy while we were there - not sure whether that would have made a difference."

  • "We had two excellent entrees, the Oslo bucco and the gnocchi. We had a nice super Tuscan that was fairly priced. The service was pleasant and attentive. We will definitely return for our third visit. We like the location. The restaurant can get noisy as it is not very large. Reservations are a good idea."

  • "A small place. Not busy. Not noisy. The food served was good. The dining experience was sub-par. A situation occurred that could have been handled better by the "chef". It left our hosts who had been there before a bit embarrassed about taking us there. We probably will not go back. There are too many good restaurants in the area that go out of their way to see that their customers' have a good dining experience."

  • "This is a "diamond in the rough" type of restaurant. Great menu, food, wine, and service."

  • "Trip Advisor reviewer's rated this well mostly. However, the entrees were below par. Tiramisu was excellent. We are in the culinary field and were very disappointed. The beef was tough, the lamb bones not Frenched, the mushroom sauce flavorless and milky, the lamb arrived rare instead of the requested medium...the sauce decorated my plate but there was not enough to really even taste...none of my food arrived hot... Why was the place packed? I can only conclude that this is a case of the "Emperor's New Clothes" where people who don't really know food follow the comments of others. This is a restaurant located in a beach community and so that may make the food seem better by comparison to the fried food and bars available elsewhere."

  • "I enjoyed my dining experience at Cafe' Atlantico. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, the service was excellent and the food was delicious."
    Dined on 7/22/2013
  • "The service and food were excellent, our only complaint was the "risotto" which was supposed to be included in both our entrees was actually some dry yellow rice, which resembled Spanish rice-at an Italian restaurant.... We asked our server about the risotto and were informed that it was risotto, the chef's "take on risotto" and she agreed to swap it out with mashed potatoes. We are both foodies, and know how to cook risotto, that was not risotto in any form or fashion, and the menu should reflect that. Beyond that one risotto issue, everything we got was delicious."

  • "This is a small, quiet place that is tucked away. The food is very good, and reasonable. The service is great, and it does have a good ambiance. Down side, poor wine list. For Chardonnay there is the house wine (not very good) and then they jump to a $65 bottle that I haven't heard of. They need a couple of in-betweens."

  • "We have lived here in Palm Coast 9 yrs and just found this wonderful restaurant. We had appetizers- carpaccio and broccoli rabe with sausage;main course - clams over linguine and bouillabaisse, desert, wine Service was attentive. The food was delicious. We were there on a Tuesday nite, so we had plenty of attention - and the chef was in the kitchen. It is located on a strip in St Augustine Beach - with more beachy restaurants, so you might notice it. Ambience was on the more formal side, but you can dress casually."
