A beautiful old carriage house in the French Quarter - romantic & rustic. A much more laid back vibe compared to some of the bustling white linen dining rooms in the quarter. Dining space is warm and inviting and the outside dining space and fire pit add to the ambiance. Our meal was delicious and the service was spot on.

Beautiful hidden courtyard of a restaurant. Everyone from hostesses to wait staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They even saved us one of the best tables per our request. Our waitress was bubbly, funny, attentive and delightful.

Unfortunately for both Cafe Amelie and us the polar vortex arrived with a vengeance. On the evening of our visit giant gas heaters were set up and we were seated outside. The staff should have given us the option of eating inside to guide us to a better dining experience. As everyone outside was shivering cold including the hosts and waitstaff it was also lightly drizzling. The food was okay but as we tried our best to relax and enjoy the experience the food quickly became cold and unpalatable. The people at the next table asked for the heater to be moved closer to them so my date also got cold. Sad night for outdoor dining in NOLA!!

I read reviews from locals on Eater.com about the best brunches in NOLA and they steered me to Cafe Amelie. Glad that they did! I had the amazingly decadent french toast with a cafe au lait. The food is matched by the ambiance - the courtyard is quintessential New Orleans. The restaurant is tucked away on Royal Street, which added to its charm. While it was busy, it never felt crowded. The inside of the restaurant is cozy as well, but I would still request a seat in the courtyard if (when!) I return. Also, I walked by the night before and it looked to be a great space for an event. A wedding reception was happening there and the decor was lovely.

I have been willing to try Café Amélie since I moved here. We made reservation for 8 pm on Sunday night. We checked in at the front desk and the lady was very unfriendly and aggressive "We don't keep reservation for more than 15 minutes passed the time." I apologized and asked my husband what time it was feeling very bad. It's 8:15 he tells me... Anyway we decide to wait inside. We finally got a table, ordered food and wine. Food came, wine did not. The fish (seared-tuna) was not at all. It tasted old fish that has stayed on the counter too long. Dry, no seasoning. The pasta was very heavy and saucy. Just the shrimps and sausage were tasty. Oh and I would maybe not be so hard with them if the Entrees price was not $26 on average...

amazing courtyard. Cafe Amelie came highly recommended by friends. My friend and I went and were overall happy with the visit, though there was a rough start. Service was quite slow at first and dragged on while another couple who was seated after us was served multiple courses before our order was even taken (I presume they had connections with the kitchen). We started with poutine and the salad with grapes and blue cheese--both delicious. For mains, I got duck, my friend got seared tuna. Both were tasty and very enjoyable, but I'm not craving to have them again; my duck was well-done (server didn't ask how I wanted it cooked), which wasn't a problem, but I was a bit surprised. I am however craving the smores bread pudding--our favorite part of the meal! We sat inside on the second floor because it was a bit chilly, but in order of preference, I'd probably prefer to sit 1) outside, 2) on first floor inside, 3) on second floor. a lovely spot, but there are so many other places in Nola I'd like to try, that I'd probably only rush to come back if it was warm enough to dine in the charming courtyard.

The secret garden Al fresco dining experience was the most romantic ever. Soft jazz music and string lights accompany the freshness of the ingredients in each dish we enjoyed. We may have come for the atmosphere, but we will keep returning for the signature shrimp and grits, truly one of the most extraordinary delights ever. Bravo to the staff, courteous and pleasant.

Our reservation grew from 4 to 6 people and they accommodated us nicely. The food was very tasty, although we waited quite some time for it. A few of us ordered several appetizers, in lieu of entree's, and the waitress chose to serve them in 2 stages, leaving those who didn't order any starters to wait a very long time for their meals. And we waited, once again, for our check. The poor service made what could have been a fantastic experience just OK.

Our experience was not the same as out last visit, Food was over seasoned, dessert tarts were overcooked on the bottoms.. So disapointing, menu changes from summer to fall limited cereole pasta dishes, duck was over cooked and duck meatloaf to peppery...left needing a snack later...We had a wonderful experience in May but this was no so much...unremarkable...

The courtyard was indeed charming. The food was good, tasty. But it was the service that was severely lacking. The server was very cold, completely unfriendly. It would actually have made me feel better if she treated other guests that way because then maybe she was just having a bad day. However, she was smiling and joking with other guests around us. My husband noted it was just us that she was cold towards. We would never come back nor would we recommend this place.

Beautiful warm evening meal at Café Amelie a little gem in a beautiful courtyard. Although we didn't dine in the courtyard itself our table was situated next to the open doors that looked upon the courtyard and other guests. Server was gracious and knowledgeable. So disappointed with our dining experience after reading such great reviews about the place. The service was awful. Server was slow and practically "absent". It was hard to get her attention and we had to wait a very long time between courses. This was made worse by the fact that the chairs for outdoor seating were most unstable and uncomfortable! The food was just okay and served lukewarm after a long wait. We wanted to try dessert but it took so long to get a menu and we had to wait another 15 minutes to get our server's attention to order that we decided to just get the check. Ambience was nice and perhaps this place is better known for brunch.

I was disappointed---really not that special--certainly did not live up to other's reviews. Outdoor chairs were quite uncomfortable for a long dinner. Garden is nice, but nothing spectacular. Food was good, but not great. Service was not good---friendly, but not attentive. We were told incorrect information about the special's ingredients ie, it was a pasta with eggplant and peppers and mushrooms. Well, none of those items were in the pasta sauce. It was tasty, but not as described! There are so many places to choose from in NOLA, that I simply would not return here.

Lovely courtyard in the French Quarter, tucked away from the chaos. Lots of tables, charming atmosphere-make a reservation! Outside tables go quickly, even early in the evening. My fiance and I decided to try this place based on some great reviews. We were not disappointed! The drinks are delicious and the food is out of this world. We started with a few cocktails (MUST TRY: Cool Hand Cuke & La Flama Diabla). We ordered the shrimp & grits with corn andouille maque choux and the jumbo lump crab cake. We also shared the cochon de lait sandwich which is a shredded pork sammy. The portions were generous and really flavorful. My favorite was the crab cake because it was drizzled with a citrus glaze; the combination of salty and sweet was mind blowing & the lumps of crab meat are obscene. Also, our waiter was really nice and upbeat which made us feel comfortable. Please give Cafe Amelie a try, you will not regret it.

It was our first time in Nola & after reading many positive reviews, decided to check out Cafe Amelie for our last meal in the city. The brunch was great; if you want to sit out in the scenic courtyard, I would recommend booking ahead, the earlier the better (they open at 11). I had the daily quiche special which was delicious, and my fiance had the cochon du lait sandwich. We shared the chicken and adouille gumbo. All amazing! You can tell all the ingredients are very fresh and local. Sadly, as it was our last day, we were a little too hungover to sample the breakfast cocktails, but I wish I had been able, as they all sounded scrumptious too. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting, & I know for a fact I'll be returning!

We originally had an inside table, but, upon seeing the courtyard, we quickly requested an outside table. Though the chairs did not seem to be the most stable, we got over it, as the lights in the trees, the breeze and the soft conversation around is mesmerizing. The oyster artichoke appetizer was excellent, as was the Cajun poutine (French fries with cochon de lait on top- it was a game day indulgence!). The Amelie salad was great, but the entrees were by far the most impressive fare. The lamb shank or the crispy duck were my favorites, but I adored the lamb meatloaf and the seared tuna. I will certainly be going back!
