Diner Reviews
  • "We loved the atmosphere at Café Amelie. Best courtyard in NOLA. We enjoyed the tomato bisque soup, shrimp & grits appetizer (enough for my meal) and the salmon entrée. Wish the menu was not so limited. Would have loved to substitute the soup for a crisp green salad without blue cheese but menu did not offer one. Consider adding a few items to menu (maybe a steak option and another gulf fish option) and a salad with a light vinaigrette dressing especially in the summer time. Wish we had eaten outside but rain was expected to so we sat indoors but still had a beautiful view of the courtyard."

  • "I had read about Amelie on Zagat's and never realized there was such a quaint, lovely, and non-French Quarter feeling place right there on Royal St. The food was solid (I got the banana waffle which is hard to screw up so not necessarily a great barometer), the courtyard transported me out of the Vieux Carre, and the drink list was varied, interesting, and impressive. Would definitely give it another shot for brunch and maybe try a bit more adventurous of a dish."

  • "Our server was fantastic; very knowledgeable and personable, excellent suggestions and he frequently checked on us. Food was excellent as well."

  • "Great place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. My husband, daughter, and I had a memorable meal out in the courtyard. That night's drink special, something like a watermelon citrus mojito, was just refreshing! Shrimp and grits, along with the glazed shrimp appetizer were delicious! Thumbs up from my husband for the seared tuna, although the shrimp pasta and chicken entrees were just decent. No children's menu. The chairs are not very comfortable, so you won't want to stay too long. Overall, we enjoyed our one time dinner, but for two adults and a two year old to eat for almost 200 bucks without dessert, doubt we will go again!"

  • "I was very excited to celebrate an anniversary at Cafe Amelie after having read the reviews. While the hostess that night didn't really set the right tone with her lack of friendliness, the main attraction - the food! - was wonderful (loved the fig jam and goat cheese app, pork tenderloin with mango) and our waiter, Wade, was very knowledgeable and anticipatory of our needs. He surprised us with a light apricot sorbet dessert without even knowing we were celebrating. We would return and hopefully get to try some more of the dessert menu (we were too full to make a serious attempt)!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner here our last night in NOLA. It was just perfect in every way. It must be hard to stand out as a resturant in this city full of amazing restaurants, but this is a real gem."

  • "Was recommended from a friend who visited NOLA before we did, and it was great. Food is delicious, the atmosphere is fantastic (quaint and quiet for being in the French Quarter), and the service was top notch. We had a window seat inside, perfect for our last meal in NOLA before leaving. The bartender made my date's drink, a seasonal cocktail, then changed how he made it and offered to remix hers the way he adjusted it. That added to the ambiance of it being a local owned shop that caters to their customers needs. Don't get it confused with Petite Amelie down the street, also - unfortunate to say - but pass on the desserts here, they don't live up to the rest of the menu."

  • "We sat in the bar area, by a door that was open to the courtyard. A breeze kept us cool and a thunderstorm added to the experience. The decor of this place is really classic to New Orleans. Our server helped us choose everything and we practically licked our plates! I would highly recommend this place."

  • "The courtyard is just beautiful, and magical at night. The service was attentive, the Amelie cocktail perfect, and the berry crumble dessert wonderful. These outstanding features made the undistinguished tuna entree all the more disappointing. The tuna was not the highest quality, a bit stringy, and the sauce was ordinary. While it was nice to have spinach instead of the expected bok choi, the dish was a big letdown."

  • "Great food, friendly staff, in the most charming setting. What a treat to dine in this historic, hidden gem. The gumbo and pecan french toast is AMAZING!"

  • "I went to Cafe Amelie based on their yelp reviews. The space was lovely, but the menu offerings were slim, and they didn't have the bottomless brunch that was advertised. Our server seemed super annoyed and impatient & added a gratuity to our check even though only 4 people had food. We paid it because it wasn't worth the hassle, but I thought it was in poor taste, and her explanation of it was curt & rude. With so many options in New Orleans, I doubt that I'll be back."

  • "Four world travelers (one who works in the wine and spirits industry) met up in NO for the weekend. Café Amelie exceeded all of our high expectations. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was fresh, flavorful and creative. The Farm to Table philosophy and attention to detail was apparent in the quality of the ingredients and the unwillingness to serve anything that wasn't up to the chef's high standards. The atmosphere was lovely - quiet, intimate and relaxed. Cost was very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The four of us enjoyed two courses with an additional two shared desserts and a round of drinks for just under $200. We would be regulars if we lived closer."

  • "The courtyard is gorgeous, but not ideal if it's raining. The carriage house is charming, however, and has its own enjoyable ambiance. I ordered the mozzarella fireballs and the chicken--both were excellent. If a place does chicken memorably well, it stands up to most good restaurants. Cafe Amelie is one such place."

  • "Wish I'd discovered this gem earlier-would have gone twice. Had dinner upstairs which was quieter and more intimate than downstairs. Was alone but made to feel very welcome. Food excellent. Crab cake to start-fresh and generous portion. Had fish as entree which I like underdone if anything. The chef managed this perfectly, unusual in my experience. Had to squeeze in dessert since the other courses had been so good. Berry crumble. So much fruit! Not too sugary either. The waitrees recommended fresh cream instead of the suggested ice cream. Spot on. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. All in all, a delight."

  • "Best food on our entire trip. And in a food city such as New Orleans, that is saying something. The setting is lovely... courtyard for outdoor dining when weather permits. The staff is attentive and helpful. But, the food is the true star here."

  • "We went to cafe Amelie for Father's Day, they weren't accommodating. The staff was very rude. Although the food was great, I wouldn't go back. I thought it would be a lot nicer than it was. I'm not one to right a review either, but I was very disappointed especially being there to celebrate a great day for my father."

  • "Our special night out for a romantic dinner was just that. The reservation was ready for us, service was paced just right. The lovely courtyard with fountain and music was pleasant. The tables are spaced far enough apart to be able to talk quietly and feel romantic. The menu is varied from specialty sandwiches to a full salmon dinner. We liked everything we tried and it was perfect. The prices are fair. Thanks Cafe Amelie."

  • "Upon arrival to this cafe, we immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and vibe of Cafe Amelie. From the charming scenic garden to the great hospitality of our server, we couldn't have been happier to start our day there. The food was especially pleasing with the Shrimp and Grits being the crowd favorites. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who plans to visit the French Quarter or New Orleans!"

  • "Cafe Amelie continues to be a classic dining experience. There is no other resturant in the city whereas you receive tops in customer service, (5) star delicious cuisine, a friendly environment and a courtyard view that is classic New Orleans. Cafe Amelie is a jewel that locals can enjoy. My dining experience is always above par and consistent. I am looking forward to the next time and the time after that..... Thank you and God Bless Danny and the staff at Cafe Amelie! Here's to the next time!!!!! Sincerely Caryn Rodgers"

  • "We are a group visiting from Texas for a friends wedding. We arrived just in time for a late lunch here. Everyone enjoyed the food and the wine was excellent w great prices. Would recommend to others and return ourselves. We also hit petite Amelie for a green juice and coffee the next day and it was equally good!"

  • "We made reservations at Cafe Amelie a couple weeks before arriving in NOLA for three days vacation. We walked to the restaurant from the hotel and arrived about 20 minutes early. Our early arrival seemed to throw them into a state of confusion. Some seating is normally available outside, but on this night it was raining, so all indoors. They sat us a table that was basically in the entranceway to the restaurant. When I asked if another table was available, they said no, even though at least some tables were unoccupied the whole time we were there. That kind of put a damper on everything. The food was decent but not as good as I had expected based on reviews, and the service was uninspired, disinterested, and lackluster to say the least. "

  • "Wondering tasting & quality food. Not your normal New Orleans hipe which is why I love it so much. I just can't say enough about the quality of the food and the thought that has gone into the dishes. Very decent wine list and also featured drinks."

  • "Café Amelie was a truly memorable dining experience. Food was fabulous and we wished the desserts would never end. The service was excellent too. One small negative was the uncomfortable and unsubstantial chairs. "

  • "My fiance and I went to a lovely dinner at the Cafe while visiting New Orleans. I had heard about it before hand and made a reservation and it was certainly worth it! The food was as fresh as they claim and amazingly delicious. Our waitor was friendly and allowed for a relaxed and fun dining experience. We took our time- had drinks, dinner and desert- and almost literally licked our plates clean! I highly recommend it! "

  • "Outdoor dining would have been good but we were seated inside where it was rather dark. Service could have been a lot better. When we sat down one in our party had a sticky substance allover the table at their spot. Server took their time to come clean it up then left the table 'wet'. Diner had to use their own napkin to dry the table off. Then had to grab another napkin from another table. Not a good start! Rest of service was slow and dull. Food was good but not for 'Foodies'. Would not go again."

  • "Best shrimp and grits I had in NOLA! The menu had something for everyone, the portions were not overly large or small, and the service was truly excellent. I had lunch there on a very nice day so the windows opened into the courtyard. Unfortunately, every once in a while, a breeze would come thru, bringing with it the scent of...well, it's New Orleans. You can guess what I was smelling. I at first had trouble finding the place because the sign was obscured by the overhead foilage. Overall, the food was great and I'm very glad for the recommendation."

  • "Cafe Amelie is pretty much in the heart of the French Quarter, just a block off Bourbon Street, but you'd never know it. It's high-walled garden courtyard is very much an oasis from the busy tourist chaos just a couple hundred yards away. The food was excellent--especially the shrimp & grits app--and the specialty cocktails were fantastic. Our group of 6 had excellent meals all around, and very much enjoyed the coolness of the courtyard after a hot day. The only blip on the ambience meter was that a little more lighting in the courtyard would go a long way. We needed smart phones to read the dessert menu, and by the end of the meal we were walking pretty carefully in order not to trip (not alcohol-related)! But overall, really nice."
