A word from Cafe Amelie
Please note that the courtyard is seated on a first come, first serve basis. A reservation does not guarantee seating in the courtyard but we will have a table available inside our beautiful, historic carriage house.

We normally allow reservation space for only 50% of the dining room to accommodate walk-ins. Additionally, in order to accommodate all of our guests who are waiting to be seated, we are only able to seat your party once everyone has arrived.

Nestled in the historic 150-year-old Princess of Monaco Courtyard and Carriage House on Royal Street in the French Quarter, Café Amelie is a rare combination of superb Louisiana fare served in a lush, enchanting New Orleans courtyard setting.

Café Amelie has a full bar offering an array of signature cocktail creations. Café Amelie and the accompanying Princess of Monaco Courtyard are also available for private parties, weddings and receptions.

Diner Reviews
  • "A friend recommended this place to me, so I made lunch reservations when I knew I would be in New Orleans for a conference. I had a lovely table outdoors in the courtyard. What a peaceful, relaxing reprieve from the craziness you will find in other parts of the French Quarter. The waiter saw that I was dining alone and made a special effort to have a little conversation with me. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere here. My only complaint was that I did not expect the farmer's market pasta to have cajun seasoning on it, and my stomach does not handle cajun seasoning well. For everyone else, this would probably be OK and even a delightful surprise, but for me, it just does not work well."

  • "Second time we ate there. Outside dining is pretty. Indoors is just as nice though. Wonderful waitstaff. LOVE the nut and fruit bread with goat cheese and fig spread. Could eat that everyday. The doberg torte was delish!"

  • "Beautiful garden setting! The food was very good. Unfortunately our servicer was curt. I think that was a reflection on our waitress and not the whole restaurant. My recommendation is if the server starts off with attitude ask for another server because it will last through the whole meal. It ruined our dining experience. As a whole we found the service in the rest of New Orleans to be true "southern hospitality"."

  • "The small plates were perfect for sharing. Out of the 6-7 plates we ordered, only one left us unimpressed. We encountered perfect New Orleans weather - sunny and breezy. The green umbrellas provided shade in every seat which is a must for New Orleans summers. I couldn't imagine a more picturesque setting. Highly recommended for a girls' day brunch or bridal luncheon."

  • "My attempts to secure an evening dinner reservation were unsuccessful, so I opted for a lunch. The weather was perfect, and since we were seated in the courtyard we couldn’t have been happier. Our table of 4 tried a variety of menu items and all were excellent. We tried their signature cocktails and enjoyed a bottle of wine (reasonably priced) with lunch, and once again all were very good. Café Amelie is removed from the Bourbon Street clamor so the atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. I will recommend Café Amelie to all my friends. Great spot for date night!"

  • "We are fortunate to have this beautiful little oasis in the middle of the French Quarter, and the food is creative, dependable, and always good. The Lamb Burger is a treat, perfectly cooked, and I order mine without the bread, so it's served on a bed of mixed arugula and cherry tomatoes in a lovely dressing. The dish is a perfect combination of fresh greens and tasty lamb. The setting is unique, the menu is unique (yet has some of the standard "feel good" items we expect in New Orleans, like Shrimp and Grits), and the staff is competent and friendly. I love it."

  • "Unfortunately our reservations for Cafe Amelie were on a day when it was too cold to sit outside in their charming courtyard. Consequently we were seated at a table next to a very noisy engagement party. Our meals, however, were excellent. We each had the duck and andouille gumbo and we shared the shrimp and grits."

  • "Everything was great but a friend ordered chicken and it wasn't cooked all the way. They brought a second chicken and she cut into it and this one wasn't done either. By that time everyone was finished eating so she just shared her meal with another member from our group."

  • "Everything we had was wonderful in reasonable portions, not too big or too small. Our server was kind and helpful. We enjoyed our meal very much."

  • "My daughter and I were visiting Tulane and had just half a day to experience New Orleans, including one lunch. I wanted to be in the French Quarter and found Cafe Amelie on Yelp. We were able to get an outdoor table and the garden ambiance was just perfect! A good mix of age groups and there was a charm factor as well as a cool factor. Must try the shrimp and grits and the catfish sandwich. Yum! Our waitress was great as well - very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some history of the French Quarter. Oh and I can't forget to mention the wonderful cocktail I got at the bar while I waited for our table. Will be back!"

  • "We had a list of restaurants we wanted to try on our recent trip to New Orleans. Cafe Amelie did not disappoint. The courtyard is beautiful, although we ate indoors because the weather was cool. Beautiful doors allowed us to look out on the patio while dining. Service was very good. We both very much enjoyed the Amelie mixed salad, which contained apples, grapes, pecans, and blue cheese in a light, citrusy dressing. We both also ordered the pasta with shrimp, which was amazingly good, penne pasta in a light sauce with fresh corn, sausage and perfectly barbequed shrimp, topped with shaved cheese. Dessert was a berry crumble, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries with ice cream - not too sweet - perfect! Highly recommend Cafe Amelie."

  • "While making a reservation, I saw the following note: "Although we do our best to accommodate all special seating requests, we cannot guarantee outdoor seating due to limited ... seating and varying weather conditions. All reservations are guaranteed a table in our beautiful historic Carriage House. " I assumed this meant we would get a table inside unless we requested an outside one. When we arrived for dinner, we were seated outside. We told them we wanted to sit inside, and were told that we had not requested an inside table and would have to wait 30-45 min until one was open. We chose to wait, and fortunately it only took about 15 minutes for one to open up. In spite of that, our service was excellent. Thanks Effie for your service."

  • "I cannot say enough about this place. Dined here on Wednesday March 19th, proposed to my now fiancé. Wade, our server made the evening AMAZING. We are now considering going back and using the courtyard for our special day. Easily my Top 3 places in the country."

  • "We had a nice table on a sunny day. The food was fair at best. The salad easily dressed, small and unappealing. My pulled pork sandwich (they called it something else) was so salty that I sent it back. We shared a couple appetizers which were pretty good but not memorable. The waitress was very nice and accommodating, so it wasn't a wash."

  • "This was our second visit to Cafe Amelie, and we were as pleased as usual. The menu offers creative takes on New Orleans style cuisine, and the service was terrific and unobtrusive. Sitting in the quiet, beautiful courtyard, with its cobblestones, fountains and illuminated torches, is highly recommended. This will be a must for our future trips to New Orleans."

  • "I went here for my two year anniversary with my girlfriend and it was perfect. Each table is very separated from the others so you have lots of privacy, beautiful outdoor courtyard, great food. The poutine appetizer and duck and tuna entrees were delicious."

  • "My husband and I escaped the madness of Mardi Gras to dine at Cafe Amelie, and we loved it. We sat outside in their lovely courtyard and enjoyed friendly and gracious service, delicious food, and creative drinks. The next time we are in New Orleans, we'll return!"

  • "A beautiful courtyard - amazing food and great service!"

  • "We walked through parade cacophony and sea of beer drinkers. The moment we turned into the Amelie courtyard, we felt calm and relaxed. The fountain brought welcome relief from the auditory barrage outside the garden wall. Seated quickly, a few deep breaths later, we felt at home and ordered an intriguing seasonal cocktail involving bitters and grapefruit. We had the nut bread with dates, goat cheese and nuts, a huge crab cake, Amelie salad, and the Brussels sprout appetizer with bacon. All well prepared and sufficed as dinner for two weary travelers. Outside the wall, on our way out, a musician played locally inspired music (quite well). Walked the French Quarter after dinner. Good for those who prefer the mild side to the wild side."

  • "Ate here based on a friend recommendation. JiWe were not given a choice about dining in the courtyard and we were led to a very chilly table outside. The cold that evening was intolerable so we waited quite some time for a table inside. The food was good, not out of the ordinary but I suppose the pricey check was partly for the charm of the place. I would say the menu was rather short with a few standout items. One other thing, which I guess goes with the territory-the proximity of the bar to the restaurant tables is very close. Prepare yourself for the possibility of drunken partiers who could be loudly carrying on two feet away. This was pretty disruptive the night we were there which was an unexpected aspect to our evening."

  • "Really enjoyed. Went on advice of friends who had been there. Glad we listened."

  • "I ordered a vegetarian pasta and it was horrible. I mean literally horrible. The pasta strands were half cooked. In the name of vegetables there was boiled spinach, some cherry tomatoes and a few bits of mushroom. All these boiled vegetables were just placed on top of half boiled pasta strands and there was no sign of any sauce. Absolutely no effort put in preparing this pasta, it could be as well prepared by a 5 year old. For the money that Cafe Amelie charges, if this is the kind of food they serve, I will never recommend this place to anyone. My husband ordered rack of lambs. The meal was good but the portion was very small. I think the restaurant should reconsider the portions that they give for the money they charge."

  • "I was hoping to sit in the courtyard, however, were sat inside with view of the outside. As an avid gardener, and after I had read about it's lovely courtyard, I was expecting more. The garden was not as maintained and pretty as I was expecting."

  • "I have been meaning to go to Cafe Amelie for years. Finally had the chance last weekend for lunch. Courtyard is beautiful. The hostesses were very friendly. Waitress was friendly, everyone was. However. Service was really slow. I realize it was a busy day, and I actually didn't mind the length of time between courses, it was more about how long it took to get drink refills. I was there for an hour and a half and only had iced tea refilled twice. Food was ok, had the olives appetizer, tomato basil soup, lamb meatloaf and chicken special. Olives were good, soup was really good, meatloaf was on the crispier side of burned and served on a sandwich although that is not mentioned in the description. Chicken was fine. Overall left me feeling "meh""

  • "Garden seating was lovely. Indoors was pretty too, very well-appointed with glowing lighting and lively music. Our food was delicious; cocktails were on point. The Cafe Amelie cocktail was aromatic and refreshing. Entrees were all well-prepared and tasty, the shrimp and grits being the highlight-they do spoil you for any other grits you eat down here! The affogato dessert was a small but delightful way to end the meal. The only downer was our clod of a waiter, whose service and demeanor were out of sync with the fine things just described. He greeted us, frowning, with "oh, I see you have drinks already!" and gave us amateur, indifferent service the rest of the way through. It didn't spoil our great night, but did not add to it at all."

  • "We absolutely loved the romantic atmosphere of the restaurant with its romantically lit courtyard and beautiful fountain. We sat just inside overlooking the courtyard. The staff was very friendly and attentive. To start we split the Amelie mixed salad and the beet salad. Both were perfect combinations of flavors. I also had the Amelie cocktail which I would say is similar to a mojito, but made with vodka and house-made limeade. Really great and not too strong. Lastly, and by far the best thing we ate while in New Orleans, was the veg plate. It was roasted vegetables and wilted spinach over grits. It had a great kick to it, and was absolutely divine. Would go back just for that."

  • "For al fresco dining in one of the French Quarter's hidden courtyards, Cafe Amelie can't be matched. The courtyard plantings and canted green umbrellas add to the feeling of being an insider in the Quarter. Our spicy shrimp appetizer was perfect and the beet salad we shared was full of large, nicely seasoned beets along with feta and nuts. Our two entrees of (duck and Italian sausage pasta) were nicely prepared and all courses were topped off with a nice Prosecco from the cafe's extensive wine list. Well worth the price."

  • "My husband and I discovered Cafe Amelie the year after Katrina and we have been going back at least once a year since then. The food is always special with new discoveries each time we dine there. The servers are very attentive. Its a perfect place for a special New Orleans themed dinner or for something light. There is never any pressure to finish quickly. Inside and out there is a hum of families, singles, couples young and old enjoying each other and the wonderful food and wine. Well behaved dogs seem to be at home at the outdoor tables. We always feel welcomed as locals even though we come in from California. Cafe Amelie is what every other NOLA restaurant should strive to emulate."

  • "First time eating here and would definitely go back. Got there 45 minutes early and they still accommodated us. Very nice courtyard dining. Service was exceptional, as was the meal. The chicken and sausage gumbo is easily in my top 2 ever and trust me...that's saying a lot. Great smoking flavor but not overpowering. Glazed chicken was cooked perfectly. Very juicy white meat. Oysters Amelie was delicious but would've liked more than 3 oysters in it. The citrus glazed crab cake may have been the star of the show had we not tried the gumbo. Easily the meatiest, most flavorful crab cake I've ever had. Cons: Music was a touch too loud and song list was not what I would've chose. Give me smooth jazz for this setting. That said, HIGHLY RECOMMEND."

  • "We visited New Orleans five years ago for a month and never could get into this lovely little restaurant. Finally we were able to plan well ahead and make a reservation. We thought the menu was limited although the breakfast items we chose were delicious. Our server while pleasant was not particularly attentive. The inside is very old and charming but could use a deep cleaning. Overall, we were happy to have finally made it!"

  • "Went for brunch after seeing several websites and reviews rave about Cafe Amelie. Charming ambiance, outdoor seating was quaint. I prefer a heartier brunch since I eat only twice on the weekends. Very limited brunch menu, just 4 options I believe. I ordered the "Banana Waffles." The food was nothing special (literally a waffle with bananas on it). My friends felt equally unimpressed with their choices. While I enjoyed the location and beautiful courtyard, I would not likely return for brunch."
