  • Awesome courtyard, wonderful food

We originally had an inside table, but, upon seeing the courtyard, we quickly requested an outside table. Though the chairs did not seem to be the most stable, we got over it, as the lights in the trees, the breeze and the soft conversation around is mesmerizing. The oyster artichoke appetizer was excellent, as was the Cajun poutine (French fries with cochon de lait on top- it was a game day indulgence!). The Amelie salad was great, but the entrees were by far the most impressive fare. The lamb shank or the crispy duck were my favorites, but I adored the lamb meatloaf and the seared tuna. I will certainly be going back!

Everything about Cafe Amelie was wonderful. You come in to a beautiful courtyard where you can eat (it was hot and humid so we chose inside). Appetizers were BBQ Shrimps, beet salad, liver pate and brussel sprouts baked with bacon and balsamic, all wonderful. Mains were duck, specled trout and lobster filled pasta again all great. Service was friendly attentive and professional.Wine list favored Europe, South America and New Zealand, many good well priced options. We had a memorable evening.

Went for lunch/brunch because couldn't fit it in for dinner! We were seated inside, which was fine with us as we had walked a bit to get there in the high heat, but the courtyard is BEAUTIFUL! Our waitress was just okay. Wasn't rude, but wasn't nearly as friendly as any of the other waitstaff we had throughout our week long vacation in New Orleans. She seemed to be in a bit of a rush with us. My husband had the Amelie salad & said it was very good--really liked all the fruit & toppings on it. I had the cochon de lait sandwich. The meat was amazing; super tender & flavorful, if a bit messy! However, didn't realize it came with NOTHING else & wasn't offered/suggested to order anything with it. Would have gotten something. Would try again

I had originally secured an outdoor table for Brunch. The weather was too hot for my wife and the staff did a marvelous job of getting us moved to a wonderful inside table. The view of the outdoor dining area was almost as good as being out there. The bartender was a help when I asked for a recommendation on a cooling drink for my wife. Our waitress was full of personality and knowledge. She was very helpful and elevated the dining experience. The food was good bordering on very good. We would have returned if we had more time.

Such a lovely setting walking thru the garden into the restaurant. Setting inside was quaint and charming, with soft lighting. Service was excellent. Not a large menu, but very palatable. Our only regret was that it was extremely warm that night and we were disappointed that because of this we chose to sit indoors. Would have loved to dine in the garden! Would definitely recommend Cafe Amelie.

After reading all of the wonderful reviews for this restaurant, we were really looking forward to going there for dinner. I had asked for a table by a window, thinking it would provide us with a view of the courtyard. We got a table by a window that had a very dingy sheer drape upstairs which seemed to be the family room - two families with young children. Not exactly the "romantic setting" I thought we would experience. With all of the wonderful dining destinations in New Orleans, Café Amelie will not be on our "dine there again" list.

  • Great Courtyard!

We loved the atmosphere at Café Amelie. Best courtyard in NOLA. We enjoyed the tomato bisque soup, shrimp & grits appetizer (enough for my meal) and the salmon entrée. Wish the menu was not so limited. Would have loved to substitute the soup for a crisp green salad without blue cheese but menu did not offer one. Consider adding a few items to menu (maybe a steak option and another gulf fish option) and a salad with a light vinaigrette dressing especially in the summer time. Wish we had eaten outside but rain was expected to so we sat indoors but still had a beautiful view of the courtyard.

I had read about Amelie on Zagat's and never realized there was such a quaint, lovely, and non-French Quarter feeling place right there on Royal St. The food was solid (I got the banana waffle which is hard to screw up so not necessarily a great barometer), the courtyard transported me out of the Vieux Carre, and the drink list was varied, interesting, and impressive. Would definitely give it another shot for brunch and maybe try a bit more adventurous of a dish.

Great place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. My husband, daughter, and I had a memorable meal out in the courtyard. That night's drink special, something like a watermelon citrus mojito, was just refreshing! Shrimp and grits, along with the glazed shrimp appetizer were delicious! Thumbs up from my husband for the seared tuna, although the shrimp pasta and chicken entrees were just decent. No children's menu. The chairs are not very comfortable, so you won't want to stay too long. Overall, we enjoyed our one time dinner, but for two adults and a two year old to eat for almost 200 bucks without dessert, doubt we will go again!

I was very excited to celebrate an anniversary at Cafe Amelie after having read the reviews. While the hostess that night didn't really set the right tone with her lack of friendliness, the main attraction - the food! - was wonderful (loved the fig jam and goat cheese app, pork tenderloin with mango) and our waiter, Wade, was very knowledgeable and anticipatory of our needs. He surprised us with a light apricot sorbet dessert without even knowing we were celebrating. We would return and hopefully get to try some more of the dessert menu (we were too full to make a serious attempt)!

Was recommended from a friend who visited NOLA before we did, and it was great. Food is delicious, the atmosphere is fantastic (quaint and quiet for being in the French Quarter), and the service was top notch. We had a window seat inside, perfect for our last meal in NOLA before leaving. The bartender made my date's drink, a seasonal cocktail, then changed how he made it and offered to remix hers the way he adjusted it. That added to the ambiance of it being a local owned shop that caters to their customers needs. Don't get it confused with Petite Amelie down the street, also - unfortunate to say - but pass on the desserts here, they don't live up to the rest of the menu.

We sat in the bar area, by a door that was open to the courtyard. A breeze kept us cool and a thunderstorm added to the experience. The decor of this place is really classic to New Orleans. The courtyard is just beautiful, and magical at night. The service was attentive, the Amelie cocktail perfect, and the berry crumble dessert wonderful. These outstanding features made the undistinguished tuna entree all the more disappointing. The tuna was not the highest quality, a bit stringy, and the sauce was ordinary. While it was nice to have spinach instead of the expected bok choi, the dish was a big letdown.

I went to Cafe Amelie based on their yelp reviews. The space was lovely, but the menu offerings were slim, and they didn't have the bottomless brunch that was advertised. Our server seemed super annoyed and impatient & added a gratuity to our check even though only 4 people had food. We paid it because it wasn't worth the hassle, but I thought it was in poor taste, and her explanation of it was curt & rude. With so many options in New Orleans, I doubt that I'll be back.

Four world travelers (one who works in the wine and spirits industry) met up in NO for the weekend. Café Amelie exceeded all of our high expectations. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was fresh, flavorful and creative. The Farm to Table philosophy and attention to detail was apparent in the quality of the ingredients and the unwillingness to serve anything that wasn't up to the chef's high standards. The atmosphere was lovely - quiet, intimate and relaxed. Cost was very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The four of us enjoyed two courses with an additional two shared desserts and a round of drinks for just under $200. We would be regulars if we lived closer.

The courtyard is gorgeous, but not ideal if it's raining. The carriage house is charming, however, and has its own enjoyable ambiance. I ordered the mozzarella fireballs and the chicken--both were excellent. If a place does chicken memorably well, it stands up to most good restaurants. Cafe Amelie is one such place.

Wish I'd discovered this gem earlier-would have gone twice. Had dinner upstairs which was quieter and more intimate than downstairs. Was alone but made to feel very welcome. Food excellent. Crab cake to start-fresh and generous portion. Had fish as entree which I like underdone if anything. The chef managed this perfectly, unusual in my experience. Had to squeeze in dessert since the other courses had been so good. Berry crumble. So much fruit! Not too sugary either. The waitrees recommended fresh cream instead of the suggested ice cream. Spot on. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. All in all, a delight.
