A word from Café Adelaide at Loews New Orleans Hotel
Acclaimed by local and regional food writers as one of the best New Orleans Restaurants, Cafe Adelaide is a favorite of local residents as well as visitors. Modern Creole Cuisine featuring seafood and farm fresh ingredients is the cornerstone to "eating, drinking, and carrying on" at this Commander's Palace Family Restaurant.

The Swizzle Stick Bar is a nod to the Brennans' beloved aunt, Adelaide Brennan, whose joie de vivre and charming pursuit of the good life is captured in the decor and design. Named for the gold swizzle stick that Adelaide wore around her neck, this fun watering hole is getting a lot of attention reviving classic cocktails. Bar Chef Lu Brow leads a team dedicated to the art of presenting perfect cocktails. The culinary team is led by Executive Chef Carl Schaubhut.

We have eaten at Cafe Adelaide on several previous trips. The ambiance and service continues to be great. The food is creative and always delicious. I enjoy the menu with at most 10 entrees. Each is interesting and tasty. Portion sizes are just right...not overwhelming like so many NOLA restaurants.

I was looking for a last minute place walking distance from the office and the Arena to take a group of 5 for dinner before a Pelicans game on Friday. All of the other usual pre game places were full. There was a reason this place had PLENTY of availability. The headline describes our experience.

Good food, great service and you cannot beat 25 cent martinis, which were as delicious as the food. Though, I believe 2 of my guests were not impressed with the banana dessert - they thought the bananas were too firm. Everything else was perfect. Especially our waitress, Jennifer.

The menu, though limited, has multiple unique creations eg tasso and shrimp corndogs, all of which are excellent. The room itself is more upscale than I expected, though not at all stuffy. Would love to go back!

All of the food was very good - soups, salads, entrees and dessert. Unique combinations produced hearty flavors with nice spicing and good flavor and texture balances. Service was terribly slow. Atmosphere was open and clean but rather Spartan. We would come back for the food as long as we were not going anywhere afterward.

Visiting New Orleans, an acclaimed foodie city, we wanted to carefully choose each meal. After reading the reviews here and having a great dinner at their sister restaurant SoBou earlier in our trip, we expected a great meal. We went for brunch and were horrified by the tacky decor, including attempts at an art deco vibe with bright artwork on the walls and giant multi-colored party balloons in the middle of the table, all which made my head hurt. We asked our server what beers were available, to which he said, "Actually, I'm not sure, all the normal stuff like Budweiser, Bud Light." He never got us an answer. We both ordered the Crab Egg White frittata. We both regretted our mushy, bland $20 eggs. Skip, at least for brunch.

Received a friendly welcome when arrived for dinner. We were early so invited to wait in bar lounge area. Drinks were very good and bar staff very friendly. Seated on time. Server was efficient but did not introduce himself and did not make eye contact at all during service. Shrimp tasso corndogs were nothing special. Our party of 4 all ordered and shared different entrees. Shrimp and grits were good. Blue crab and dumplings were strange and flavorless. Duck leg had good flavor but extremely greasy. 14oz bbq pork chop was very good and the star of the meal.

Within walking distance to my hotel was my criteria and the menu looked interesting. Had "fit" items too.Cafe Adelaide went beyond those expectations! Nice pairings of unusual ingredients. The Adelaide Swizzle was WOW. I'm not a cocktail person generally, but in New Orleans it felt apropos. The combo of bitters, rum, lime: not too sweet, just marvelous! Had a grouping of drunken melon salad (very yummy, unusual), butterflied pork chop with absinthe barbecue sauce, with sweet potatoes & same sauce, plus side of "slaw" w/ mirliton, pickled other items. Nice contrast. Dessert: Bananas Foster Sundae. Single glasses of wine complimented the meal. Lovely overall. Quiet & not rushed service. Perfect evening.

The Adelaide is another very good Brennan's restaurant with a strong Creole bias. The food was better than I expected, and has an attractive interior and decor which while not romantic is certainly pleasing and additive to the dining experience. The menu is certainly more limited than a Mr. B's, Commanders or other B restaurants but large enough to afford choice. The one criticism I have goes to the wine list which I believe is too limited in choice.

Couldn't get a reservation at Commander's, so decide to try it's sister restaurant. The appetizers (shrimp and tasso corndogs and cornmeal crusted oysters) are quite good. The turtle soup is excellent -- the dash of sherry really brings out the flavour of the soup. The crab was somewhat subdued and played second fiddle to the dumpings in the crab-n-dumplings. The seared gulf fish was fine, but not a standout. The service was a bit of a letdown. It was very slow and not too attentive, and the restaurant was not crowded.

YOur restaurant was recommend to us and we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous and service for the most part was great. We were a bit surprised when one of our guests asked the waiter if the bar had a certain type of beer. The server responded that he did not know but made no mention or move to find out. Our guest asked if he could go and find out. Other than that, loved it!

Went for Sunday brunch. Made reservations and mentioned had a vegetarian in the group of three. We were seated promptly then ignored for 15 minutes before waitress came to the table. When she took our order we asked about the squash in the entree and she did not know nor attempted to find out. We sat for over one hour before our food arrived...barely warm. I live in New Orleans and will not be back nor suggest this to others. Way too many better places to enjoy brunch within walking distance of this place. I was extremely disappointed.

We had a great evening at Cafe Adelaide at the Loews. Unlike a lot of places, they have free Valet parking at the front of the Hotel, you just let them know you're there for dinner and your ticket gets stamped inside. Having the Swizzle Stick Lounge there is a huge plus, as its a very comfortable and cool place to hang out and have a drink while waiting for your table, and again for a nightcap if you aren't driving. Our meal was excellent; there was a prix fix menu available and we chose it, as the entree items looked very good. I had the pork chop, and it was cooked to a perfect medium, which is hard to do with a 1.5 inch thick chop. Will definitely go back again.

We had friends in from out of town for the saints game and wanted to meet somewhere for brunch that would be near for them to walk to the super dome. This fit the bill. We were able to park valet. The meal had one highpoint which was a shrimp and tasso corn dog. It was fantastic and I had never had anything like it. Cudos to the chef for creativity. It worked. It had a light breading with a spicy remoulade style sauce with pepper jelly. It was reminiscent of a commanders palace dish but was great. That said, everything else for the six of us was uninspired and not worth the price. Small portions on the entrees and starters that were medium warm. There are too many good places in New Orleans to eat to go here.

We just happened to be New Orleans for the last weekend of Restaurant Week & stumbled on this listing on Open Table. The Turtle Soup was delicious, just a hint of spice, nice & thick. We went for restaurant week, choosing Adelaide over a number of contenders because of the menu. Unfortunately, the complimentary mini-cocktail advertised on the Web did not arrive. Our servers seemed confused about who was taking the table, picking up leftover settings after we had been there a while and made a reservation for two. Our drink and food orders were not taken swiftly, and refills were very slow in coming. We were not in a hurry, but the service was a slower pace than leisurely.

During the We Live To Eat restaurant week in NOLA, I hit 5 restaurants with friends & family members including Cafe Adelaide, Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, Antoine's, & The Pelican Club. Cafe Adelaide rated #1 of the 5 with amazing food & impeccable service. I had the shrimp & grits & the melon mojito salad and both were extremely flavorful and delicious. I liked it so much that I even ordered close to the same at its sister restaurant Commander's but it didn't even come close. The Pelican Club rated #2, Galatoire's #3 (but terrible service), Commander's #4, & Antoine's #5.

Looking for an undiscovered gem in New Orleans? Here it is! Several factors led us to reserve at this restaurant: its location near the casino, its availability on a Sunday evening, and the knowledge that its young chef and barmeister were schooled in the Brennan tradition. We were delighted with our experience. Particular highlights were the Absinthe barbecued pork chop, the roasted brussels sprouts in pepper jelly, and, from the cocktail menu, the Wild Magnolia (with magnolia bitters in it, no less!) Service was young, punctual, hip and smiling. Across time, we've eaten at all the major league restaurants in New Orleans; this one deserves a place on that list.

The restaurant is undergoing a makeover. The smell of paint was overwhelming. The former tiger-striped painted walls are now so glossy white it almost hurts your eyes. Hopefully, its just a primer. I don't go there for the ambiance, albeit it rather nice normally. I go there for the food; monthly. The lunch specials cannot be beat. The service is very good.
