Diner Reviews
  • "We loved relaxing at Café 43 in addition to exploring the GWB Library. The service was excellent. It was too hot to sit on the outdoor patio but it would be wonderful in cooler weather. Laura's tomato/mozzarella/avocado sandwich was light and tasty. They don't rush you in and out... you can sit and enjoy the experience. This is not a fancy place with a fancy menu... just relaxing and enjoyable."

  • "A little pricey, great service and the food overall was good. I had a great time at the Library and the Cafe lunch made it that much more special. I would go again. Thank you for a great experience."

  • "The food was incredible, but so was the knowledgeable staff. The chef made multiple accommodations for my family's food allergies and our server was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and not afraid to ask the chef questions we had about food prep or ingredients used. Our dishes were not only beautifully plated, but they were delicious, too. We will definitely return."

  • "I have high standards when dining out. Café 43 surpassed my highest expectations!! Our server, Marco, was polite and humorous (awesome), the cost of the meal (for 2) was less than $30 and the food was exceptional!!! The overall experience was top shelf and I plan on going back again and again!!! I do wish they would expand their hours of operation though!!"

  • "I was disappointed in my omelette. Too greasy - dill pickle as a side placed right beside fruit? My companion had excellent salmon."

  • "Great spot for a wonderful lunch! Would recommend carpooling if just going there for lunch as parking is $7 per car."

  • "The food in Cafe 43 is outstanding. The selections of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees is very good. I highly recommend that if you are going to the Museum that you make a reservation and plan on having lunch at Cafe 43. It is a little pricey but again very good. Be sure and save room for George's favorite ice cream. It is DELICIOUS!! The Cafe is small so make a reservation unless you are willing to wait or eat on the patio which this time of year is quite warm."

  • "Fabulous! The food was great, ambience perfect ! My 95 year old motherinlaw was delighted for this birthday celebration ! And the staff was wonderful-- they seated her when I had to drop her off in foyer while I looked for a parking place ! The only problem is parking and bathroom accessibility."

  • "The restaurant is simple but elegant. The simplicity of the décor makes the guests part of the visual experience. Nicely appointed tables; red stemware makes the setting pop. Excellent and imaginative menu."

  • "Enjoyed everything about our dining experience. We had made reservations and were seated promptly. Atmosphere was lovely. Waiter was very informative. He was especially helpful when I had leftovers. We still had the museum to go through and he offered to keep my pulled pork half sandwich refrigerated until we were ready to leave after viewing the museum. All five of us had a really nice time there."

  • "My family and I loved our lunch at Café 43. The food was delicious, and the peach cobbler would have competed well with mine. Ha! Our waiter was friendly and did his job well. We felt very comfortable having my two month old granddaughter there in her stroller...very accommodating! The décor was beautiful in its simplicity. I love the native grass and flowers surrounding the exterior of the outdoor dining."

  • "Awesome airy setting, delicious food chosen from an interesting menu, and presented by very capable servers! Friendly and professional! A must for locals and guests alike. Crab cake was awesome as we're the cheese bread sticks and flatbread that was served upon being seated. All around a lovely experience we WILL repeat! Oh...the peach cobbler is not to missed!"

  • "We (3) were a few minutes early for our 1:30 p.m. lunch reservation but were quickly seated. We ordered our food and it was served to us about 20 minutes later. The food was very good and so was the service. The is the second time I had lunch at Cafe 43 and certainly recommend it for singles and families large or small."

  • "With it's separate entrance, you can dine here without buying a ticket to the Bush Library and Museum. It's in the same building but separate. Considering the quality of the food and service, the prices are very reasonable. Portions are enough to satisfy 43 after he's been clearing brush all day. Service is very attentive. Décor is minimalist but classy and relaxing. Reservations are not necessary but are recommended on busy days."

  • "The quality of the food was a disappointment for the price. We had heard positive things about the restaurant and expected more than was available. All in all, this was a mediocre ending to a great Bush Museum tour."

  • "Our lunch was great!..........liked the idea we could eat and discuss items we saw in the Library and could hear each other. This would not be a restaurant for small children."

  • "I loved the red quinoa crusted salmon!! So delicious! Wonderful salmon & really crusty quinoa! We also had homemade ricotta; I'd never had that anywhere; very nice! Mmmmm!! Delicious banana pecan ice cream! Mmmmm!! Our waiter was very attentive, but not overly so!"

  • "This was a surprise find at the Bush Library. We sat at an outside table and it was cool and very quiet. The view overlooked the SMU campus. The service was excellent and the food was presented well and very tasty. I would recommend this for anyone visiting the library or at another function at SMU."

  • "The wild mushroom soup was tasteless and unappetizing in appearance, devoid of any mushroom flavor. We explained to the waiter why we wouldn't be eating it, and he came back later saying the chef tasted it and agreed, and he would season it and give us new servings. Mere seasoning couldn't rescue that soup. The salads we had were just ok. We've read great reviews of this place, and maybe if we'd read them before going, we would have known what to order to get the best food. But our experience made us not want to give it another try."

  • "For the time of year we went, it was a lovely day to sit outside. The indoor part of the restaurant was too cold, even with a sweater on "

  • "My husband and I enjoyed taking our out-of-town friends from Illinois to Café 43, following our visit to the Bush Memorial Library. All of us agreed it was the perfect ending to the visit. Making reservations online was easy and helpful, knowing that we would be seated. That, coupled with excellent food, lovely outdoor eating area, and impeccable service, our visit was truly memorable. A pleasant and interesting place to take visitors/friends. Will definitely return!"

There were 7 people in our party and we could not have enjoyed it more. I would highly recommend Cafe 43 to anyone visiting the Bush Library. We will definitely be back!"
