Diner Reviews
  • "We love Mexican/Southwestern food but didn't like this place at all. $10 margarita pitchers for happy hour but they were horrible and we sent them back. Guacamole was below average and my friend's chicken tacos were stale. The server was apologetic and had management make adjustments to our bill. It would have been nice for management to come to our table but they didn't."

  • "The employees are cordial and pleasant. They made us feel as if we were the only customers in the room. Drinks were made exactly as ordered by the bartender. The waitress had clearly taken pride before our arrival. The table was spotless."

  • "Overall very good. The food was excellent! I would come here again."

  • "Great seat for bike race. Service was great - super friendly."

  • "This was a horrible experience. The good was absolutely the worst Mexican I have had. The fajitas came out cold, the beans had no seasoning, the rice was hard with no flavor or seasoning. I literally had one bite of my food, as did my boyfriend and we asked for the check. The manager was a jerk and stated "this is how they make their food". I would never recommend this place for anyone to eat. I wouldn't even feed this food to my dog. "

  • "tomato sauce for salsa and way too much of sour cream and way tooooo little avocado in your guacamole. the chips were excelant but ruined on the tomato sauce and what you call guacamole..... $2 tacos were worth it very loud most folks must eat after getting drunk"

  • "Food was very good and a good price. Drinks were expensive, not filled all the way and not the best tasting."

  • "I took my two children (aged 10 and 14) to an early dinner after Easter service. The service was excellent. The host was nice and personable. He had a genuine smile. The waitress was on point with coming to our table at the appropriate time. She was very perky and nice as well. There were only a few patrons seated and a few at the bar but the atmosphere was peaceful. The food was ok and the portions were large for the price, but it didn't taste very authentic. Also the menu was small. I was craving Mexican food but it tasted very "American". The beer selection is interesting. I got a special blend of Blue Moon which was delicious. I would come back though for drinks and nachos with my friends."

  • "There aren't very many experiences in my life that I would describe as religious. But Cactus's chorizo burger is transcendently good."

  • "The food was bad. Over cooked, flavorless...and not very Mexican. If you want beer you'll be fine, but don't go for a margarita. The music was metal - Black Sabbath, Def Leopard. And the drama... Sitting at our table I could hear the manager swearing and complaining, "I don't care if he's my f'in brother...I'll never schedule him again if he ... somebody go after him". Our server was very nice and attentive - she could find a better place to work."

  • "Manager was very nice. Some patrons were using loud profanity, and he asked them to leave since there were families with children in the restaurant. Gave us his card when we asked about a recipe for a particular dish."

  • "Great substitute for your basic chain tex mex restaurants. Great happy hour options and margaritas were delicious. I am a big appetizers lover, so I would definitely recommend the Texas shrimp and Cactus Nachos; they were awesome!!!"

  • "Jalapeno Poppers were excellent -- crunchy outside and gooey rich inside. My Spicy Ceasar Salad was just okay. Hubby's Burrito very good."

  • "Stake corn tortillas, worst guacamole ever tasted like a jar of mayo. Service slow and not very friendly. Never again."

  • "TUNA DISH WAS OUTSTANDING, PERSONABLE CREW, GREAT BEER/MARGUARITAS, AWESOME GUACAMOLE."

  • "The owner/host sets the tone of this fun, friendly, noisy. casual eatery. Our experience was very enjoyable."

  • "Wonderful friendly service but very bland and unoriginal food. No corn tortillas in a mexican restaurant??? We them assumed this was more of a bar then a restaurant but apparently that did not pan out either.. Drinks were not particularly good. The margaritas tasted like they were made with a mix from Costco with cheap tequila added. Didn't dare stay for dessert."

  • "Enjoyed the food and margaritas were great. Limited menu due to the art festival so I wasn't able to get my primary choice of the fish tacos. Will definitely go back again"

  • "I had the Texas Shrimp, best shrimp I've eaten in a very long time...loved them !!"

  • "Burritos really good! Interesting beer selection. Ordered and did not care for the enchiladas & they replaced it with another item - very nice!"

  • "I love mexican food, and the two times I've been here I've enjoyed the cuisine immensely. I'm not much of a drinker, but I loved my margaritas as well. Overall great dining experience!"

  • "This was my second time visiting Cactus. I brought my son here just for the chips and salsa. The salsa is probably the best I've ever eaten. My son was not disappointed. My kids are 5 and 14 and both were happy with their food choices. My husband too was pretty happy with his meal. The service was pretty good this time. The shrimp burrito is really amazing. This is not a place that presents food well though. You get what you order on a plate, no presentation what so ever. But, the food is really good. The first time I went here was with some friends, and their drinks were really bad. My friend ordered a skinny girl margarita and it was not what she expected. It was so strong, she couldn't even drink it. Surprising for Philly"

  • "Just average, food and service were adequate. Went on Valentine's Day, restaurant was not that busy, wanted a four top for two, they would not seat us there. Tables were not used the time we were there."

  • "Amazing as always. The food is wonderful and the staff is great. Very reasonably prices Specifically, the salsa has a chipotle flavor that is unique and oh so tasty, and I love the pulled pork."

  • "They need to improve their menu and keeping it consistent. We found outside skin of avocado in our guacamole. Awful."

  • "Go here and get the Firecrackers! Jalapeno Poppers, but poppers like you have never ever had. They are real huge whole jalapenos that are fried and filled with a 3-Cheese concoction. I have had about 15 batches of these Firecrackers on different occasions and they have never let me down. Sometimes there are hotter batches than other times and it really depends on the cook and if they leave more seeds in the pepper. Awesome appetizer and I have eaten a whole batch as my entree more than once. I used to love the Chicken Quesadilla, but now the chix is in chunks and not shredded or seasoned as before. I do not recommend the quesadilla. There are good drink specials and a solid selection of beers. Go for the poppers and a good"

  • "We went to Cactus for the first time on Saturday, September 29, 2012 for the first time. We had a group of 6 people with an age range of late 30 somethings. Our reservation was for 7 PM and they were ready for us promptly at 7 PM. The service was very good. The food came pretty quickly and was very, very good. The protions sizes were on the larger side too. A couple of us took doggie bags. About 10 PM they start lowering the lights and playing more club music. We would definitely go again and recommend to freinds."

  • "I am a college student and went to Cactus for my birthday dinner. Except for the host being rude about my reservation and almost not allowing me in because I was under 21 it was pretty good. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating."

  • "Average food..waitress never asked if we wanted coffee dessert..we went elsewhere...drinks good..outside seating great.."

  • "Great spot for Tex / Mex cuisine... They also have a great variety on tap, can be a little loud during happy hour time, suggest sitting in back if you want to avoid the noise. Come here pretty regularly and always enjoy the food."

  • "The mushroom burritos were fabulous and that was enough for me!"
    Dined on 7/25/2012
  • "The food was mediocre, as was the service. What was abysmal were the drinks. You would think that ordering a pitcher would be more economical. But at Cactus, ordering a pitcher actually cost more than ordering single drinks. The pitcher was the same price as it would be for four margaritas, but only equated to 3.5 drinks. I would not go back."

  • "Food is average. The appetizer sampler is pretty bad, just a big old plate of over fried junk. Very limited selection if you want anything remotely healthy. Good beer selection, cocktails were good (avg about 8-10 dollars each). Service was terrible. We were the only group upstairs, and it took a good 20 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered, which the waitress said "the bartender is backed up." Not shocking on a Friday night except we could see him clearly and he didn't look all that busy! Overall- good to go with a group for drinks in Manayunk, not a place to go to eat good Mexican food."

  • "Good beer selection. Food was good. Liked the free hips and salsa."

  • "Went with a large group. Service was excellent and the food was good. This is not quite authentic Mexican, but it is pretty close. The margaritas, chips, salsa, and guacamole were great, and the desserts were very good. It was also really affordable too. Great place to get together with friends."

  • "Fast service, cheap food. Loved the guacamole - it was chunky and fresh. Restaurant is popular with college crowd. Would definitely come back."
