Diner Reviews
  • "This was our 2nd time back and were looking forward to the food at C/V. We started with the sardines which were wonderful. After the apps it took a very, very, long time for our pasta dinners to arrive. The couple next to us even made a comment about this. I politely asked our inattentive waitress if our pasta was coming up soon and she snippily points to the open kitchen area and says with a SNOTTTY tone "Your ticket's up next". Me: "Ok. How would I know if that is my ticket?" Snottass: "Well it's right there and its up next". Wrong. Answer. How about - " I am so sorry you had to wait but it will be up very soon, can I get you anything?". Pasta was great but the experience was lousy."

  • "This is one if the best restaurants I've ever experienced. Everything, and there were six of us, everything we ate was FRESH. If you like octopus, then you must have the grilled octopus and veggies. The octopus was so tender I cut it with my fork, and the veggies were grilled to perfection. My hubby ate the chicken scallopini with truffle oil and Gorgonzola fondue, and it was the perfect balance between the heavy cheese and the rich flavor of the truffle oil. The eggplant rollatini was like my Sicilian grandmother's. Need I say more? The servers were friendly and extremely accommodating, and the atmosphere was delightfully Mediterranean -- best of all: Th price was right! If you want a piece of Sicily in NYC, this is the place for you."

  • "We had a groupon for 4 for oysters and proseco and had a marvelous time. We plan to return for dinner. Very friendly and attentive service."

  • "We had a great experience at Cacio e Vino. We went because we had a groupon offer for prosecco and oysters- but ended up ordering 2 more apps, a main course, and another bottle of wine. Cute atmosphere, and really really great food. We had the calamari app, the sardine app, and the gnocchi main course. All were extremely delicious- the calamari was fantastic, not rubbery at all, and the gnocchi had an amazingly light cream sauce balanced with fresh arugula. Servers were attentive but not in your face. Overall would definitely go back."

  • "The food here was excellent and the menu had very interesting choices. All of the selection was unique and well thought out. Great mix of flavors and everything seemed very fresh. The wine list is disappointing. The service great."

  • "Its not just another great Italian restaurant in the E. Village... its really special because its Sicilian influenced and everything is high quality and very fresh. Wine is very reasonable too. We had a fantastic bottle of rose for 36.00. nice service too--no attitudes."

  • "I used a groupon for 3 dozen oysters and a bottle of prosecco. Oysters were close to room temp and had a funny taste to them. i ate all of them anyway because i didnt want to show any disrespect. Then my friend had the shrimp fetuccini. She didnt eant it because it tasted funny, so I ate it. I understood what she meant by funny taste but kept giving myself the excuse that this was an "authentic" sicilian cuisine and I've never had sicilian food in my life, so what do i know, right? I also had their calamari, which was pretty tasty, so no complaints there. Another friend of mine had a steak and that was pretty good. All our orders took an hour to come out and the place want very crowded. I write this while fighting a stomach virus."

  • "This was our first time at Cacio e Vino but had heard great things about it so we had to try it. Instantly, I loved the look and warm feeling I got, reminding me of my Grandmother's house in Italy. It smelled amazing so I was eager to look over the menu. All of the choices sounded amazing, I wanted to order everything!! The food was out of this world, everything I had expected amazing Sicilian food to be like! I will definitely be going back, especially for the Rice Balls...you gotta try them! "

  • "Food and service reflect owners pride in providing a friendly, caring, meticulously prepared experience for the diner. Even though I was just having a French Toast brunch, I would have absolute confidence that anything prepared in this restaurant would be of high quality. "

  • "Reading some to the recent reviews I was concerned about going to this restaurant but we decided to try it anyway. I am glad we did. The food was very well prepared. The service was excellent, our waitress was delightful. We had an eggplant appetizer that was delicious and the branzino was very nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection. The semifreddo was an excellent finish to a lovely meal. "

  • "We went to Cacio e Vino as it was constantly recommended on pulse for brunch, and it was TERRIBLE! The food, the service and the ambience! There was only one server and the place was empty but we were still not served promptly. The food was the pits and no one on our table finished their meal. I would never recommend this place to anyone."

  • "how do you eat 1 1/2 dozen of oysters without them being shucked, no cocktail either. they offered us balsamic vinegar and oil. that did not help because it was mainly oil. not the best experience for me and my guest"

  • "I had been to this restaurant before but not in a few years. So I was very excited because I remembered the food being cooked to perfection. Not this time. I don't know how it's possible to burn a pasta dish but they did. They also got rid of their brick oven where a lot if their dishes were cooked in. I would not go back. My friends however enjoyed their meals,"

  • "Couldn't hear the person right across from me at a table for two. Cozy Italian restaurant spoiled by a ridiculous noise level. Not sure what the fix is. Food was just okay. Almost took it to go, just to get out of there."

  • "It was as if my husband and I were in different restaurants. I ordered an eggplant appetizer that was not cooked all the way through. The cheese inside was not melted and the eggplant was cold. However, it was so good, I didn't complain. I just wanted to eat it all up. My entree was a cheesy pasta dish that was also delicious although a bit one note. The same taste over and over. My husband had a fish fillet dish. It arrived on the plate looking sad and dry. He didn't enjoy it at all. For dessert, we tried the cannoli and the tiramiso. The cannoli was wonderful. The tiramiso, was left on the plate barely eaten. Over all, this is not a place we'd come back to. Also, the noise level made conversation very difficult."

  • "We dined here with a large group. The restaurant is small and the seating was not comfortable in that if you were seated on the inside bench area you needed to sit on a pillow or you were too low for the table height. The said, the decor was cute, and I did identlify some typical Sicilain artifacts and pottery. The menu was limited and many of the pasta choices were good although under seasoned. I had the baby lamb chops which were cooked well and accompanied by a fruity sauce. The appetizers were rather bland and I was sorely disappointed in the rice ball which was tasteless, dry, and cool on the inside. The service was attentive. The wine list was limitted to mostly SIcilian wines which are not the best wines in Italy."

  • "Not the most expansive menu but what they do, they do well."

  • "This place is a real find. The food is well-prepared, many with just simple ingredients that combine to form superb cuisine. they have a healthy mx of fish and meat. The pasta is wonderful. The staff was friendly but not overbearing and very accommodating. Informal, warm and friendly dining with an unhurried and uncrushed atmosphere. We will return."

  • "This was our first time at Cacio e Vino and certainly won't be the last! My husband and I went on Valentine's Day and even though the restaurant was packed, it didn't feel overcrowded at all. The food was outstanding.I was born and raised in Sicily and I am a bit cautious when ordering particular Sicilian dishes at a restaurant because i don't want to be disappointed. Well i had nothing to be worried about. Pasta con le sarde was amazing. The cannoli were made with ricotta imported from Sicily, the owner told us (and I could tell) and were divine -- i had to order a second round. Our waiter, Massimo, was great -- attentive, professional, never overwhelming, gave us excellent suggestions and perfect service. Without a doubt, we will be back!"

  • "We came here on a freezing Wednesday night after the downtown theater. The place was pretty empty and the waiter/host couldn't have been nicer. All of the wine is from Italy and the food is authentic. We had delicious arrancini rice balls -- perfectly fried and not greasy filled with risotto and peas and a little meat. We ordered just a simple pasta with peas. It was served in a hollowed out parmesan rind and not only was the presentation beautiful, the pasta was creamy and delicious. The atmosphere was great for conversation -- maybe it was quiet since it was mid week and absolutely freezing outside. I would definitely come back"

  • "This is a specialty restaurant specific to Sicilian Cuisine. If you are looking for meatballs and sauce then Italian food is broken up by region of Italy and Sicilian is by far the rarest find. NYC has just a couple of sicilan restaurants and this is by for the best. Rice Balls, octopus, sardines and squid ink pasta all paired with regional wines. What a find and a gem. This is a must if you are an Italian foodie or want a true italian experience. The staff is truly Italian and insists on providing a higer level of service."

  • "i ate in one of NYC's best Italian restaurants a few weeks ago. enjoyed it very much, would go back in a minute, don't remember what i had. i will remember the spaghetti in sea urchin sauce and the sweet and sour lamb chops and the dessert the waiter recommended at cacio e vino for a long time. what a great meal !!!!"

  • "This restaurant serves consistently good food (I've been there about eight times to date). My parents were from Sicily and they have authentic Sicilian recipes on the menu in addition to some other Italian goodies that most Americans will recognize, e.g. tiramisu. My wife and I have NEVER had a bad meal. The owner is always there keeping on eye on things. He is a gracious man who ensures that his patrons are happy. Bravo!"

  • "I have now been to Cacio e Vino four or five times and every time it has been superb. You find there dishes that are not Italian standards and that are just what you would have in a Sicilian or Sardenian trattoria--bucatoni with sardines and pine nuts, polipo (octopus) grilled to perfection--not mushy, not rubbery. One of my favorites is a not-so-simple spaghetti with peas, which comes to the table with an enormous cheese, into which the spaghetti is poured and swirled until it takes on a kind of creamy shellac of cheese--out of this world! Occasionally the service is a bit slow, but it is worth waiting for the attentive waiters to get to you. Also, the wait means that your food will be truly freshly cooked."

  • "As always Cacio e Vino has it all. The atmosphere, the adventure in food and the service is tremendous. IT was our wedding anniversary and we enjoyed ourselves just like we did 31 years ago. We laughed, drank and ate ourselves into blissful celebration. Anna, our server was wonderful. She and I spoke some Sicilian words that made us both laugh. It's always a joy to visit Cacio e Vino. Abbundanza! Bravissimo a Maestro di Cucina!"

  • "My parents were in town and my fiance and I were looking for some place close for dinner. Our experience was amazing. Portions were perfect and tasted incredible. The restaurant was out of my selection of wine and we were offered a more expensive, older vintage at the lesser price. I would say they might want to consider position numbers at the table because the gentleman who delivered our food auctioned off the plates and we couldnt understand him very well. We didnt save room for dessert which we regretted as their tiramisu looked delicious from afar. We will be back!"

  • "This is the perfect example of a neighborhood Italian gem! Delicious and authentic food, great wines, & outstanding service. Server Massimo was so charming you'll want him to join you for dinner! The manager, Christine, and whole staff were so welcoming that you felt as though you were in their home, not a restaurant. Stand outs: arancina and grilled octopus, both fantastic. Pastas: the PACCHERI ALL'ASTICE - WOW and GNOCCHI ALL'ANATRA - perfect gnocchi. Main course TAGLIATA DI MANZO. Food was so good came back 2 days later with a group to try more! BUSIATE, ANELETTI & RIGATONI. I think I can safely recommend you add this to your fav Italian restaurants in NYC!"
