A word from Cacio e Pepe
Consistently excellent, this East Village gem is known for innovation and excellence in Roman cuisine. While Chef Salvatore Corea creates a seasonal menu, partners Alessandro Peluso and Giusto Priola note that Cacio e Pepe remains faithful to its signature namesake dish: home-made pasta brought to your table and spun in a wheel of pecorino cheese, then dusted with a flourish of pepper. Voted a ‘Critic’s Pick’ by New York Magazine, Cacio e Pepe is celebrated by reviewers as a classic Italian restaurant with a sense of style: A 50-seat garden is set behind the main dining room, there is al-fresco dining out front, and waiters with superior wine knowledge help you select the perfect beverage accompaniment to your meal. The mystery remains whether it is the garden, the cuisine, or the service which lifts Cacio e Pepe above and beyond its peers on the NYC restaurant scene. The answer, however, may best be expressed in French: It has that je ne se qua.

Attentive service. Had the signature dish which was very good; their version has a bit more cheese than I am used to but not an overwhelming amount. Every chef has their own interpretation of this classic Roman recipe, and this is one of the best in NYC. Wines by the glass are fairly priced. We also had the arugula, pear and pecorino salad and that was wonderful, with a very light dressing and a good balance of flavors. We sat indoors, but the garden in the back is also very pleasant. This is not experimental cuisine; one should go to enjoy well executed traditional Roman cuisine.

Lots of seating at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while the streets were crowded. Cacio e Pepe was virtually empty-looking. Turns out that everybody was in the back garden! Loving the AC, I sat inside. Bread and oil brought right over. Generous wine portion. Arugula salad crisp-fresh with a zingy dressing and plentiful shaved parmesan. Fantastic, elaborate prep of the signature dish (cacao e pepe). Thick, creamy and powerfully cheesy, with strong peppercorn - a delight. Wonderful, expressive waitress. No reason to order dessert; a decaf latte helped me continue to savor my supper and the conversation. What a great experience!

I love Cacio e Pepe. I go quite often and bring people who end up becoming just as big a fan as me. The signature dish, Cacio e Pepe, is always amazing. The staff consistently does a great job and are always so nice an accommodating. NEVER had a bad service experience. Their salads and appetizers are amazing, the meatballs, caprese salads, etc. Just go!

We were here on Saturday night and sat in the garden in the back. The beautiful woman who seemed like she was running the show was an amazing hostess, server, and manager. While serious, she could not have been more pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. We started with prosecco and two apps:the meatballs and the mozz w/tomatoes.Both absolutely delicious. We then had the gnocchi and the house pasta, cacio e pepe. The gnocchi were light, soft pillows in a delicious sauce with mozzarella. The house pasta was sublime.Homeade, perfectly al dente and flavorful with cheese and pepper. We had some wonderful red wine recommended by our server. We ended with coconut panna cotta. The experience could not have been better. This is my new favorite place!

The waiters were welcoming, the space iniviting, tables well spaced, and the diners relaxed--we enjoyed being near a family with young children who seemed to love being there. Our white wine was tasty and affordable. Though the pastas were fun, I think my cod with escarole and chickpeas was actually the best dish. For us, not quite cheap enough for a casual drop-in, but didn't break the bank for a festive occasion. And while we made a reservation for our Friday meal, I'm not sure we needed it.

The service was rushed / pushy, the music was loud and not fitting for the environment and the overall noise level was so high that our table of 6 could not have a normal conversation. The food was ok, but not on par with my last visit which was several years ago. The overall experience is not what it used to be at Cacio e Pepe.

There was not a thing we ordered that we did not like. My husband who usually does not like eggplant and he had a tough time deciding which was better between the eggplant and meatball appetizers. I ate way past the point I should have stopped because the Cacio e Pepe was amazing! Great dinner, thank you!

We went last week, one of those nights where the wind chill feels like zero. Very savory pastas - a half order was enough for me. Went with family, including the 86 year old matriarch, who is quite picky, but enjoyed everything. Would happily go back when the weather is warm so that we can sit in the lovely garden.

I have loved this place for several years -- was introduced by my brother who lived nearby. Recently took a couple of friends who have high standards and they raved about the experience. From the very knowledgeable recommendations of our server on the wine, to the just-right-attentive service to, of course, the fabulous food itself. If it's your first time, make sure somebody orders the signature dish -- served out of the wheel of cheese that helps make the sauce, it is divine.

Not bad place, the atmos was lacking, but it was a Sunday night. The food was variable, my duck ragu was lovely and the eponymous cheese and blAck pepper pasta was really good, but the other dishes my friends found average. Service was good. White wine wasn't that cold. Overall, not bad, but not rushing to go again

Needed a place for a leisurely dinner while part of our group went to the theater. Normally I'd have tried something new and buzzed about, but I didn't want to deal with the vagaries of show up and see. Cacio e Pepe takes reservations, and was lauded by New York Magazine. I'd passed it for years with a slight bit of curiosity. Turns out that in a plain but pleasant room they are turning out some of the best pasta in Manhattan. And the service couldn't have been more pleasant -- so pleasant that it made me realize how lousy Manhattan service generally is. I'll be back, and ordering duck ragout again.

My husband and I along with another couple were going to New York to see the Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights. We were to meet the tour bus on 4th street by E. 13th. This restaurant was within walking distance. I was a bit skeptical at first based on the menu. I noticed there wasn't much for meat. We were all pleasantly surprised. Not one of us left anything behind on our plates. Delicious. Our wine selection was great as well.
