  • "Everything was excellent - fresh fish, delicious sauces, and very yummy mac & cheese!"

  • "We returned to Cabezon of the first time in a while this weekend with friends. It still delivers a wonderful meal. Three of the group had a fish entree, but I went for the lamb. I love lamb and Cabezon confirmed my choice with perfectly medium rare slices over faro. A meal at Cabezon is never done for me without their delicious chocolate Pot du Creme. I asked for, and received, extra whipped cream to help tame the rich, dark goodness. The perfect conclusion to a wonderful meal."

  • "Cabezon has overall good vibes. If you're looking for yummy and fresh seafood, good service and wonderful ambiance...head here! A Portland best kept secret, for sure!"

  • "We were expecting much more and were disappointed. Two of us had cioppino and it was neither well seasoned nor very substantial. It is one of my favorite dishes and did not compare favorably with the dish at other places. The cocktails were watery, too. Having said that, the service was very good."

  • "Not having been there before we were not sure what to expect, but Cabezon exceeded all of our expectations. Our server was superb, we were never rushed, courses were timely and needs were anticipated. The food was excellent. The potato leek soup with fiddleheads and mushrooms was fabulous and even though we had only a few bites left from the entree, we had to get it packaged up to enjoy later. We will be back."

  • "My husband, his daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Cabezon, on the evening of his birthday. We were seated right away; our server was warm, efficient and she provided thoughtful food and wine suggestions. Each of us ordered different entrees, and we savored our choices. The dessert menu was more than adequate and the item that we chose was shared and relished. We look forward to a return visit!"

  • "Family bought me a $25 gift certificate for my birthday not seeing fine print purchase of 2 entrees. We ordered cocktails with plan to order drinks, dinner, dessert. Took 10 mins to get drink though there were only few other people. Ordered a special but it wasn't available. None of the limited entrees sounded good so I ordered 2 appetizers, combined cost > avg $25 entree. The server informed me that wasn't allowed. Huh? Planned to have more wine and dessert...asked for the manager. Server goes to back, returns no manager, says no. So I quickly pick something. Takes forever for food. When paying gave certificate and balance + 15% tip. We were stopped saying per the gift certificate we owed a 18% tip! No kidding, can't make this stuff up."

  • "Went to Cabezon for dinner last Thursday night. I had discovered it in a search of Portland restaurants and had never heard of it though it has been in business for over four years. Well, it was the best meal I've ever had in Portland! Since "Fish House" is part of the restaurant's name, we had expected the menu to emphasize fish and seafood. We began by sharing a Caesar, of romaine and radicchio and a shrimp appetizer. Both were splendid: appealingly plated and quite tasty. Then to the main course: the best cippino I've ever had and a wonderful pan-seared sole with a tasty tapenade. Even desserts were sublime: a whiskey profiterole for me and a delicious chocolate pot de crème for my wife. Can't wait to go back."

  • "When we arrived we sat at the bar as the layout is an open kitchen format with a great view of the cooking. We really enjoyed all the food but the best was having some time to talk with the chef about the dishes and just things to do around the portland area. We will def be going back on our next trip to Portland."

  • "First visit for my wife and I. The service was very friendly and professional and did a nice job explaning and reccomending items. Our food was prepared perfectly, especially the fish. The bilini appetizer was killer. We will definitely be coming back for more."

  • "Cabezon is a delightful place, especially if you love fish and you like flavor in your food. My husband hates feeling overfed after restaurant meals and the portions here are large but the food is not heavy the mussels were great the white fish dishes were artfully prepared and presented and my sister loved the cioppino which has some zip to it..we had proflietoles for dessert and they were great like butterbrickle sauce made with candied hazelnuts...very good. Definitely going back our kind of place."

  • "I love to eat out but, even when I enjoy my meal, I often feel that I could prepare that at home. Not so at Cabezon! The combination of ingredients was complex and superb, the presentation elegant. The grouper, cioppino, and oysters were all excellent. Don't let the unexpected location fool you. Well worth the cost. We'll be back."

  • "Had two orders of Hebe or Hebi. Not very good. Long, stringy, not tender, dry - could have been shark. Limited menu was the reson for the choice."

  • "My husband and I took our college age son and girlfriend out for a special meal in Portland. We had a lovely round table by the window, so the ambient noise in the restaurant was not an issue, since we had a private, corner spot. The appetizers were very good and we shared the Monkfish and fish stew. We all had ginger cake for desert, which was great. All in all, a pleasant experience."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "We ordered four main dishes, two fish, lamb, and steak. The food was pleasantly plated but there were several things that did not sit well. The bass for one dish was raw in the middle. The seafood in the stew tasted raw. The steak was thin. The Creme Brûlée has a consistency of soft runny yogurt. Nothing stood out. That all would have been fine if the waitress wasn't super snooty and if the interior and guests didn't make you feel like you were in a retirement home with cheesy jazz music from the 80's. But the ambience and service was not so, so I give this restaurant a 3."

  • "I've been to Cabezon three times. Great food and service every time. The menu is small and reflects fresh food, mostly seafood. It's great."

  • "Gabazon never fails to deliver. Btw the great fresh food and the friendly staff, what is there to complain about. Look forward to stopping in on the way home for a glass of wine and appy at the bar or make reservations and go for dinner. Lucky to have it in our neighborhood and look forward to many more great meals. Cheers"

  • "Recent business dinner, on a Sunday evening. We had no problem getting a reservation, and when we arrived had our choice of tables. Everything was superb: oysters, Caesar salad, cioppino, and baked sea bass, followed by homemade cinnamon ice cream or profiteroles. Very friendly neighborhood feel and attentive service. Misread the wine list and ended up with a bit spendy-er wine than we thought (Pinot noir blanc), but it was a superb complement to the food nonetheless. Definitely plan to return next time we are in town."

  • "Food was very good but not very small quantity. Scallops for appetzer was 1 scallop! Hostess was snotty and chastised us for being 10 minutes late due to traffic. She said you have until 7 before the next party comes in!"

  • "Cabezon never disappoints. Anyone who loves seafood should try this gem. The seafood is always excellently prepared and the service is friendly. The staff never rushes you. The only disadvantage is that there is no parking lot."

  • "This was the first trip I have made to Cabezon. It went above and beyond our expectations for dinner. The staff was fantastic, they were there when you needed and gave you the space to enjoy the evening with your date. The Grouper which was what I had was fantastic, my date had the Monkfish and was extremely satisfied. We never felt rushed or needed to ask for anything. The quality in presentation was perfect, and the changing menu is something I look forward to the next time I dine with Cabezon. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or night out. It will not disappoint."

  • "Food somewhat pricey for portions but presented well. The fish stew had little fish and more octopus , but the broth was good. Waitress could have asked if we needed more bread to use with the broth. The place was busy so maybe that was why service was a little slow.. I did not know about "fish" dishes that is sand dags and skate wing?"

  • "My partner and I went as an early valentine's day date. The staff was perfect, the food was amazing, down to the lavender honey brulee that was so good my girlfriend asked me if we could adopt a brulee based diet."

  • "This is a great restaurant. Love having it so close that we can walk. They're accommodating and we've been able to get in with no reservation and we've eaten at the bar which is also a great experience. It is definitely one of our favorite places in Portland and recommend it highly."

  • "We met 2 friends here for dinner on my birthday. I saw the great reviews and decided to try it for the first time. We were not disappointed. The food was expertly prepared, imaginative, and fresh. Parking was a minor challenge, but the dining experience was more than worth it. Looking forward to a return visit."

  • "We went on a cold evening in January. A bit cool and drafty at our table. None of us took our coats off for quite a while. We did request more heat, and it did warm up a little. Corner tables were probably better, our table seemed more exposed. Seafood was fresh and tasty. I had Ciopinno. Good broth, a little less cayenne may have allowed more of the other flavors to come through. Shrimp and crab components were excellent. Could have used more fish or a larger bowl -- I had to use a few bread slices (which were excellent) to get a full meal."

Also great garlicky Caesar salad...very friendly service. Cabezon is a neighborhood gem and glad to have it so close to our Laurelhurst residence."

  • "Cabezon is an excellent place to eat if you love fresh seasonal seafood offerings. We have been to this restaurant several times over the last few years and we have never been disappointed with our meals. The appetizers are excellent, the beers are great, the wines are superb, and lastly the cocktails are unique. I highly recommend the Cioppino, Basil Wrapped Shrimp, Prosciutto Wrapped Monk-fish, and the Grilled Mahi-mahi. Not only is the food delicious, the presentation is equally awesome."

  • "We took friends from out of town to Cabezon, looking for a nice, not overly expensive Portland-feel meal. We were very pleased with the mussels, monk fish, and seafood stew -- delicious. Excellent razor clam appetizer and Caesar salad. The lamb pasta dish was way too salty -- sent it back. Ambiance was very nice, although we were seated by the front door, which was a little cool when the door opened. Overall, it met our goals. A- to B+."
