Diner Reviews
  • "Tried Ca Va for the 1st time after a Sun matinee theatre performance. My husband & I really enjoyed our early dinner. Service was great. Our meal was delicious. We both had appetizers, entrees, desserts & drinks. I had the bone marrow app. Pete had the charcuterie. I had the lamb entree & Pete had the salmon. The portions were generous, the food was delicious & the plates were beautiful. My lamb was cooked as I requested med-rare. We were quite full so I ordered a latte & sorbet for dessert. Pete had espresso & ice cream. I had wine with dinner. Pete had tap beer. There was nothing we didn't like. Everything was served nicely by attentive staff. The price is upscale. We paid just under $200 with tip. It was worth it for a great dinner."

  • "Went for restaurant week. Food was great, excellent service, it was nice that they allowed you to substitute a glass of wine for dessert."

  • "Ideal for a pre theater dinner...food was great and our waiter was especially good, informed and amiable. We had a full meal and were done in ample time. Only negative are the number of bathrooms --2-- for such a large restaurant so just plan ahead."

  • "I haven't been here for a while, so i was really pleased to find the quality is still there. We came for Restaurant Week. I had the escargot, beef tournadoes and bread pudding. All were excellent. We will not wait so long to return. It was my friend's first visit and she can't wait to bring her husband. Truly wonderful flavors, presentation and service. You will not be disappointed, go."

  • "Ive had brunch here several times and it has always been delicious. This was my second time for dinner and I was not as pleased. I will come back but only for brunch. I had fish and my two dinner partners had steak. We thought the food was just OK. The service however was excellent."

  • "We went here due to it's convenience to the theatre, and it happened to be during Restaurant Week. Their Restaurant Week menu selections were great! The gazpacho was delicious, and the halibut was fantastic. It really was the perfect summer dish, with an heirloom tomato and arugula salad. Our table had no complaints whatsoever about the food. Our waiter was great. He offered excellent service, and when he knew we had to rush to get out for a show, he was incredibly prompt with our coffee and dessert. The style of the restaurant was very modern, but warm feeling, and there was a great bar area with couches and club chairs. Overall the experience was wonderful, and we will definitely go back."

  • "The food was delicious, the presentation superb and the waiter was very attentitive. The restaurant is very handsomely designed and a needed change from the other restaurants in the area, albeit, it is in a hotel."

  • "had lunch before seeing a show and my guest and I loved the croque madame and the banana nut bread french toast. Service was attentive but not intrusive, coffee was delicious - no complaints whatsoever. I would definitely come back"

  • "Ça Va was highly accommodating towards my group of nine people, and the service was prompt, courteous, and extremely helpful. I originally was worried about how things would run that night—I was in charge of both dinner and theatre plans, for relatives visiting from out of the country. But Ça Va's staff took the initiative to reach out to me and gave me assurance that the night would go well. I know that for some places, service tends to suffer during Restaurant Week, but it was not the case here. The pace of the entire course of dinner was comfortable. Food was wonderful, ambiance was perfect, and everyone enjoyed the experience. I would definitely consider bringing others here again."

  • "If you don't want guests to make reservations at 4PM, don't allow them to do so on Open Table. Due to my own schedule, I made a reservation at 4PM. I was greeted by the hostess with a look like I had two heads, informed that she hoped I didn't expect the dinner menu, and then, as we were seated, FURTHER informed that she hoped I realized they needed the table by 5PM. The food was mediocre and the service sub-par, though it was cheerful and prompt, the server clearly did not have the "time" for us to do anything like tell us what was on the charcuterie platter or anything similar. I would NOT be returning there, and would not recommend others to go there. One outstanding thing: the pommes frites were fabulous."

  • "Found it looking for a Restaurant Week restaurant close to Second Stage Theatre. Great find! Elegant décor, relatively quiet so good for conversation. Beautiful presentation of delicious food. And a particularly great value during restaurant week but we'll go back the next time we have tickets at Second Stage. Thoughful service that evening. My husband was stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel helix but I was able to order his meal for him. They brought our appetizers (his was a delicious gazpacho) but our server held back from putting our main course on the grill until all four of us were at the table. So the food was served perfectly - and we still had plenty of time to make an early curtain."

  • "The offering for the restaurant week menu was superb. The food was artistically prepared. The gazpacho was the best I've had. Every dish was unique and totally unexpected, but oh so good, way above the norm . We have participated in the Dine about Town in San Francisco for ten years but the quality and the offering have deteriorated to the extent that we are no longer interested. However, if this meal is indicative of the other New York restaurant's offering, we will definitely go back and try several others before heading back home to San Francisco. Kudos to Todd English. We look forward to returning for another great dining experience"

  • "Ça Va Brasserie was a great choice during our Restaurant Week getaway to the city. Excellent location in the theater district. While we ordered from the Restaurant Week menu, the preparation certainly did not suffer. Delicious food and generous portions served by friendly, attentive staff."

  • "I came here for dinner with my friends. We ordered the food from the Restaurant Week Menu - The entree beef medallions are good, but the Appetizers and the Desserts were so disappointed. I suggest that choose a glass of our Sommelier Wine Selection instead of a dessert for free charge. Services were a little slow."

  • "excellent service! Food was well prepared and waiters were very helpful in suggestions for choosing the best meals for the prefixe menu"

  • "I had items from the restaurant week menu which were good. My husband ordered off the regular menu - the grilled octopus was delicious but the chicken was tasteless. The presentation on all dishes was great but the food was ok...will not be going back there. Our table was right on top of the 2 tables next to us on either side."

  • "I generally don't write restaurant reviews. In this case, however, I feel compelled. I came for an early dinner with a friend on a Wednesday. The restaurant is open, vibrant, clean and modern, and the food is very good. I would recommend this place to others, HOWEVER, and this should never be an issue, but in this case it is, there are only 2 individual, unisex bathrooms for the entire restaurant! And this includes what appears to be an active bar scene. The lines were long to use the facilities during our entire visit, in fact my guest came back once because the line was too long. This should not happen at a place like this, and it unfortunately brought the experience down to AVERAGE from VERY GOOD."

  • "My friend loves the Chicken Paillard. I had the Le Panini, short rib heaven!!! it melted in your mouth. Ca Va is our place to go when we come in for a play."

  • "I picked the restaurant for three reasons; 1. Location close to theater. 2. Guests requested a French restaurant. 3. It was offering a "restaurant week" pre-fix dinner. We were all pleased with the service the food and not so impressed with the modern atmosphere and noisy music from the bar. The Tornandos were amazing and the portions were generous. The fish was very well presented and our guest reported it was excellent. The Risotto was less impressive and could have used an extra something. The deserts, a bread pudding with ice cream and cookie plate were very good and well presented. The staff also brought a special birthday tribute to one of our guests, without being reminded. A nice touch."

  • "Although we when there for Restaurant Week, and the Price Fixed menu was just fine, we were so tempted that we ordered a la carte dishes that we never saw elsewhere, and they were great. They included steak tartar with marrow served in a sliced femur bone and a sliced cinnamon roasted duck with a generous portion of foie gras. Words cannot describe. Waiter Jordan was perfect, with his knowledge of wine and beer"

  • "Food was great - choices were good. I think they should have had different choices for dessert but that's really here nor there."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "I realize they have an ebb and flow with the theater crowd, but we stayed past the first show time, and the place became dead. Thus I would have expected closer attention to our table, like ensuring we had enough bread. Boullibase was excellent, hight recommend it, as was the bone marrow/beef tartar app. And they are right across the street from Birdland's."

  • "We celebrated my husbands birthday with dinner at CaVa followed by theater. The staff was very welcoming, the food was both delicious and served in a timely manner, and CaVa provided a beautiful dessert plate with birthday wishes. The manager even stopped at the table to thank us for celebrating at CaVa. We highly recommend CaVa."

  • "Went this past Friday with 2 friends from out of town. We all ate the same thing off the Restaurant Week menu. We started with escargot. It looked beautiful and tasted good but not a big portion even for an appetizer. There were 4 snails, two in their shells and two not. For our entree we had the beef medallions served with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. It was cooked perfectly and this too looked beautiful. The desert was a vanilla bread pudding served with a cream cheese ice cream, and a huckleberry and rhubarb sauce. We all thought the sauce was too tart but enjoyed the pudding and ice cream still felt the portion could have been a bit larger. As this was during restaurant week the three courses were only $38 so very good deal."

  • "Had lunch here before a matinee. Service was very cordial and attentive, really delightful. Food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I don't think this is the spot for a special occasion, but for a pre or post show meal, this spot is convenient and a good bet."
