Diner Reviews
  • "Execellent dining experience and wonderful waitress (she was also the bartender the next afternoon) But the busboys were very distracting - yelling at each other and complaining LOUDLY. They need to be asked to tone it down p"

  • "First time at ça va. Went there for my bf's b'day and it was the best decision. Our waiter was Neil and he was just phenomenal. The food was great, I had lamb, it was huge! Juicy, tasty, cooked to perfection. The wine selection was just perfect. Decor was classy, service was great, front host was friendly and attentive, got us seating right away, even though we were approximately 20 minutes early. Will definitely come again."

  • "Nothing to recommend this place. Service slow and inattentive. Food is bland and unimaginative."

  • "Despite good theater location, everything about this restaurant was poor. First waiter was very, very inefficient. Salads were taken back as they were inedible. then we had a waitress who took care of us; she was helpful and brought a different and better salad. were not charged for first salads."

  • "Excellent food, great service, and perfect for a pre-Theatre dinner!"

  • "We were on time for our reservation. I ordered A glass of wine, and the entree arrived 4 minutes After the wine was served! 3 different waiters asked if we were finished eating Only 20 minutes after being served. And there didn't appear to be anyone waiting for Our table!! The only saving grace was that the fish was delicious But I would not return, due to the rude service!!"

  • "the waiter was incredibly rude - I ordered the "poitrine de porc" (as written on the menu) and he said, "So you want the pork?" He forgot to bring the wine for my friend (included in the prix fixe) and when we reminded him he didn't even care. The food tasted fine, but everything was overcooked. This restaurant has tremendous potential - I feel badly that it is not living up to it."

  • "I choose to eat here before theater because it the atmosphere is relatively subdued but also energetic. Service is excellent, food is very good to excellent. Prices are high, but worth it for ambiance and quality. I often come here before a Wednesday matinee, as well as before an evening performance happy to pay for a comfortable, high quality luncheon or dinner. Last Tuesday my husband and I came for dinner and shared an appetizer of mussels in a garlic broth. At $18- it was expensive but enough for both of us. He had a double thick pork chop and I had scallops for our main course, and we shared ice cream for dessert. Each course was wonderful. We ate at a leisurely pace and were out in time for our show."

  • "Never disappoints. Delicious cocktails, and amazing food at moderate prices. Please never take the oysters in escargot sauce off the menu."

  • "Food was even better than we expected. Beautiful presentation, good variety in menu, great for a pre-theater dinner."

  • "The food was good but the service was terrible. We got there at 9.30pm after a show. There was no one to greet us when we walked in (we had a reservation). The restaurant was about 25% full. We could not get anyone to take a drink or food order (the waiters were standing talking to each other) and we had to ask 3 times for a check. Food was lovely but someone needs to spend timing training the staff. I would not go back."

  • "I went here for breakfast and the service was excellent. The food was good (it's basically an upscale breakfast buffet). The atmostphere in the breakfast room is only OK. It has the overall feel and lighting of a recently-refurbished New York diner (think Cosmos on 23rd and 3rd), without any special touches that you would expect given how gorgeous the main dining room is. If you are staying in the hotel or you have a breakfast meeting in Midtown, it's a solid option."

  • "Another winner from Todd English. Once you get over the Intercontinental Hotel setting and the accommodating waiter lowers the head-pounding music, the food is excellent and the service just as good. Steak frites so generous my guest couldn't finish. My loup de mer was delicious. Beautifully presented salads. Will definitely go back."

  • "An enjoyable no rush pre-theater dinner. The beet salad was amazing and the double pork chop would satisfy any hungry foodie. Great value for what you get, only down fall drinks are pricey. I would go back for dinner just limit drink to a glass of wine."

  • "We had a group of 4 for dinner on Saturday night after the theater crowd cleared out. The service was impeccable - attentive and well trained. The food was inconsistent with some terrific dishes and one which had to be returned (crispy oysters prepared like escargot - 1. there was grit in the oysters & 2. the garlic butter made the crispy oysters soggy)."

  • "Enjoyed a quick meal here, $44 tasting menu was a very nice option, my partner had the porkbelly and short rib option and a glass of wine (substituted for dessert). I had the large (but a little dried out) beet carpacio and gnocchi a la carte. Wines by the glass are a bit overpriced but a good selection. Server was competent if a bit rushed and not terribly engaging. Seems they don't use position numbers for food since food runner had to ask who was having what at each course. Will go back though and try out again next time I am in the neighborhood"

  • "We were looking for a restaurant near 44th & 8th and found Ca Va. Was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. Very nice atmosphere. Food was very good. Everyone enjoyed their lunch/brunch, from hamburgers, ricotta pancakes, eggs benedict and mussels. Service was poor though. Had to ask for water a couple of times and for condiments. Couldn't seem to get the attention of the waiter after being served lunch. Restaurant was not crowded so we couldn't understand why the waiter was so slow. Felt like he just 'forgot' about us. Although the maître d' was very attentive."

  • "We had one vegan in our group of five and they were very accommodating. She was very happy with her dishes. Everything we had was very good, service was great and we had a round table, which was much better than a rectangular table. We all had appetizers (salad and 5-onion soup plus the vegan dish they made up). All items were very tasty. Main course and desserts were also very good. We got there a little early for our reservations and wanted to have drinks at the bar lounge. They did not rush us to get to the table and offered to seat us earlier if we wanted. Overall a wonderful experience."

  • "My husband an I dined at CaVa prior to attending a show. We had a 6:00 PM reservation and were seated immediately. The hostess was very nice and took care of our coats and made sure we wanted to sit right away or go to the bar first. Our waiter was ok (not overly friendly) but took good care of us. My prime rib was very good but the twice baked potato was not very flavorful. Carrot soup was delicious! My husbands meal was very good. There was a prix fix option but we chose to order off the menu. We had plenty of time so did go to the bar after. Plenty of seating and very fun atmosphere. Would recommend."

  • "Terrific food, outstanding service, spacious seating, attractive dining room, not too noisy. What more can you ask of a NY restaurant. Very near Broadway theaters, an excellent choice at any time."

  • "Ca Va has brunch classics and heftier lunch fare. Our group of 4 was happy was all choices - eggs benedict fine, short rib substantical. The taste of Ca Va special prix fixe was wonderful - all 3 courses. Service was excellent. Only 1 of our group ordered dessert, but the waiter brought - on the house - an extra dessert of madelines to be dipped in orange chocolate sauce. Delecious and a lovely gesture. One small caveat - a long line for the restroom. But you can go through the hotel lobby to the lower level and there are astonishingly lavish rest rooms! We will definitely return - excellent for pre or post theatre."

  • "We had the restaurant week lunch menu here. All of the food was delicious. The portions look small at first but they are definitely filling. The service left a little to be desired. Even though most of the time the waiters were just standing there near by it was still hard to get their attention. It took a long time for them to come by and clear our plates between courses and it did take quite a long time for each course to come out considering there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. If the restaurant was full i could see it being much louder."

  • "Great for pre-matinee lunch. Food is delicious in taste and presentation. Contemporary setting has an upbeat and energetic vibe. Three course tasting menu is perfect in portion and timing for a relaxed pre-theatre lunch. Service is very good - not rushed or made to feel hovered over."

  • "It was my wife's birthday and since were going to see a Broadway show I wanted a nice restaurant heading back downtown. We have eaten at many NYC restaurants in the theater district and this time wanted different. No Italian, American, or steak houses. The service was on point, we let the waiter pick the cheeses for the appetizer, three excellent choices. The entrees, shrimp and scallops for my wife, double pork chop for me. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. The caramelized banana bread was to die for. The wine selections were varied and we choose a French red and white, although they had Napa and others, but when in Rome. Excellent, excellent."

  • "Pre-Matinee brunch without of town friends. Plenty of time to catch up, didn't hurry us, food very much comfort type, fit the desires of most of the party."

  • "The food was delicious, love the oyster appetizer. Portions where generous for a french American restaurant. No uncomfortable gap between coarse. Staff was very attentive without being over bearing and made sure we where able to make our show. Definitely recommend to anyone especially if there in town to see a show."

  • "Took a team of colleagues here for a working breakfast meeting. The team was extremely accommodating of our large group (10+ people) and very attentive to our needs. The buffet breakfast was nicely varied and had offerings for everyone in our group. Each member of our group was extremely complimentary of their choices. I would definitely consider Ca Va Brasserie for either another event or for a personal dining experience."

  • "I didn't expect a restaurant that's connected to a hotel lobby to have such good food. All five of us had a different entree. All were tasty and well presented. They were very gracious and attentive accommodating a food allergy. Since it's a smaller venue the lower noise level allowed for all five of us to participate in a group conversation."

  • "We consider ourselves "foodies" in that we always seek out restaurants owned by chefs we have read about or have prior knowledge of. The service was downright bad, which I never expect in any upscale restaurant. I asked for my drink without lemon, the server repeated "No lemon?" and I said "right, no lemon". He brought it with lemon. He forgot one of our side dishes. He never came back to offer another drink. The most ridiculous problem was that he gave us a bill for $155 and when we got back our credit card receipt it was for $330!!! As for the food, we had soggy frites, our diver scallops were cut in half and had no sear on them. I would definitely say no reason to return here. Food was bland and needed seasoning throughout"

  • "Wine portions were meager considering the price of a glass of wine. Service was good. My date and I had the roast chicken, nicely presented, but not that tasty and rather dry. Desert, a form of apple crisp, just ok. Nice atmosphere and conveniently located. I would not likely return."

  • "Usually when I see that a hotel has a restaurant on premises, it means if I check in late and am too tired to go out I can crash there and have a bite. That's pretty much what happened to me at Ca Va located in the Intercontinental Hotel on W44St, a block away from the theater we were seeing a show at. Of course the fact that it's a Todd English restaurant led to somewhat higher expectations and boy did they deliver! The mussels appetizer was more of a meal than an appetizer and the Chef's unique creation was a hybrid of French Onion Soup and mussels in a super tasty onion soup broth. Fortunately my wife only ordered a salad, expecting to share the mussels and we only ordered 1, the double cut pork chop, which was enormous & delish :)"

  • "I had a good experience. Ca va is located in the intercontinental hotel. The setting is nice, hostess was great and the food was also tasty. I had the lamb shank and the truffle Mac and cheese is pretty amazing. Wines by the glass could be better but overall it was a great experience ."
