c.1880delicious!We are visiting Milwaukee for the weekend, and through a recommendation we went for dinner at c.1880. What a good call! The food was delicious, the service was prompt, friendly, and funny, and the cocktails were solid. All the dishes had complex flavors and were portioned out judiciously so that we could enjoy them all. We are more than happy to pass this recommendation on to other Milwaukee diners.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMService and food are greatJust a great restaurant. Staff is wonderful, food is just amazing....this is a gem for Milwaukee restaurants. A "must eat" for any serious Milwaukee restaurant fan.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA great findWe have been wanting to try c1880 for some time and the wait was worth it. The service and food was great.
My only recommendation is the menu is very limited. If you are a picky eater (we are not) look at the menu online prior to going to ensure there is something you will enjoy or would like to try. Everything we had was wonderful.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM"On Purpose" little gemI believe this is what Alice Waters envisioned decades ago in Berkeley. Warm, rustic, sophisticated-enough setting with a simple menu of the most seasonal ingredients. We enjoyed every bite, and felt very well served.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMbeautiful food!Wow! Just go here- if you are a fan of Hinterland's menu, check out this place. The food here is so elegant and refined, and absolutely delicious!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pheasant cut like butter...I only wish we hadn't visited so many breweries throughout the day so I would have had more room to try even more of their wonderful creations! We did make room for desert, rhubarb, and it was one of the best dishes we had during our visit to Wisconsin.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss the tasting menuI would've given the service 5 stars if our lead waiter hadn't been such a dud. My friend is a non-drinker usually interested in something fun whipped up by the bartender. When asked if there might be something like that available our waiter said 'not really' without offering to ask a bartender. That's a first for us. His assistant was wonderful though and helped to mitigate his complete lack of personality. My friend and I each had the tasting menu so that we could try everything and it did not disappoint! Each dish was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. I will be back next time to sit at the bar and have a lighter dinner of appetizers.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA treasure! The decor of distressed wooden tables and a less-than-impressive curbside presence belie the incredibly sophisticated cuisine of C. 1880. As Chicago foodies, we didn't expect to find such culinary prowess in Milwaukee (sorry, Milwaukeeans!) but were truly impressed with the menu offerings, the talented chef's creations, the fine service, and the quality of the ingredients. We will definitely return when we're in Milwaukee again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMbest food I've had in MilwaukeeWe visit from out of town. Took my mother for a late mother's day and had a delightful and delicious meal. Fresh ingredients, tasty and elegant.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMbest Ive had in MilwaukeeMilwaukee is a great food city, and this meal and experience were at the top of my all time list here!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMC. 1880 is truly a gem. MilwaukeeC. 1880 is truly a gem. Milwaukee has needed a restaurant like this for a long time. The food is thoughtful and playful and presented beautifully. Only a few other restaurants in Milwaukee come close, but none compare. Excellent, excellent dining experience and highly recommended to even the most particular foodies. Enjoy!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMoh my!My daughter and I headed to c1880 for a last day of class, getting paper published, and birthday celebration and all I can say is the food was superb. We had a nice bottle of wine, and the Beet salad with horseradish. I love beets but was worried about the horseradish...it turned out to be light and not over powering at all. Wonderful. We ordered the Rutabaga and Salmon entrees and switched half way through. both were wonderful, but the Rutabaga was amazing. Almost like a layered lasagna, but with thin slices of rutabaga, mushrooms, gruyere and spinich. to die for. we had desert: the Olive Oil cake with a blood orange glaze was delicious and the deconstructed whatchmacalit taster wonderful, but not exactly a great visual.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and creative mealI took my wife here before a concert. The outside doesn't look like much, but they have done a nice job dressing up the inside, with a bit of a rustic feel. The food, from the appetizers to the desserts, were creative combinations of flavors, textures and colors. The pheasanr entree was done in a sauce with a bit of "zing" to it - unexpected but wonderful. The porkbelly appetizer was superb. The "whatchumacallit" dessert sounded kind of weird, but tasted wonderful, as did the sampler of sorbets. My wife got a kick out of the chef's mom coming around to the tables asking how everyone's meal was. I highly recommend this restaurant for any nice night out.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeThe service was the best I have ever had. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was incredible. Each course was amazing. All of the flavors were such a delight!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!Not your usual boring menu, but interesting and inventive appetizers and entrees that are splendidly prepared and presented. Our group of 4 couldn't find enough superlatives to describe our choices. Wonderful food!!!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMust Try!!I would rate C1880 as one of the best restaurants in town. The menu is one that is not common and everything on it is delicious!!
I have been there on several occasions now and have never been let down.
The service is great, the staff is friendly and attentive. I love that they change up the menu and offer a selection that is original and exciting4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant. Food, serviceWonderful restaurant. Food, service and ambience were exceptional. A bit overpriced...this is Milwaukee and prices need to be competitive for a restaurant to survive.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved this restaurant andWe loved this restaurant and will definitely go back. The food was amazingly good and the service was very good.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI love steak tartare so whenI love steak tartare so when I see it on a menu I always order it. Delicious! My two friends ordered the veal dish..they thought the veal was a little over-cooked. Overall a great experience! Thanks!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMc. 1880 was one of the bestc. 1880 was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. We ordered the chef's tasting menu with accompanying wine pairings, and everything was incredible. Items I would never have ordered otherwise, such as a beet salad starter or veal cheek entree, were surprisingly delectable. Our server was energetic and knowledgeable; the smaller capacity of the restaurant gave a cozy, more intimate feel; and the chef's mother even came out at the end of our meal to make sure everything was to our liking. c. 1880 is definitely a gem in the local, farm-to-table movement.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe night started off in theThe night started off in the right direction upon opening the wine list and seeing it begin with French wines....not something you see in Milwaukee and a real treat. Our meals were wonderful and the flavors warmed the heart on a cool Spring night in the city. The veal cheek, pheasant and short ribs were all hits at our table.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and equally greatGreat food and equally great and attentive service. We had the pork belly which my husband raved about. Cooked perfectly and surprisingly not greasy. Also had the steak tartare, which was tasty but was overshadowed by the pork. The spouse had veal cheeks which were very tender and cooked perfectly with yummy sides. I had scallops with a cauliflower purée and anchovies. Scallops were cooked to perfection but the anchovies made the dish a bit too salty. Finally the dessert was amazing. Had the whatchamacallit, chocolate, toffee, peanut butter, ice cream. So good! A very good dining experience that I would highly recommend.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe flavors were amazing...BeetThe flavors were amazing...Beet salad and trout ...unbelievable !!we were celebrating a birthday ,we were able to order one meal with the wine pairing...the wine pours were very small ,our feeling was the wine part of the meal was not a value....also the wine single pour was on the light side4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother hidden gem I foundAnother hidden gem I found on Yelp. Really impressed with the food and service!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to return. We were greeted with glasses of sparkling wine to celebrate an anniversary. Wine suggestions were made by our waiter and food choices were delicious! Would strongly recommend the crab salad as a starter! The striped bass and salmon were terrific. Our server Samantha was delightful and very helpful with food questions. We'll be back soon.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing everything. FoodAmazing everything. Food was thoughtful, outstanding...Server was a doll...drinks were unique (sconnie sour...solid). Thank you!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the tasting menu withWe had the tasting menu with wine pairing, and it was an absolutely outstanding meal. The construction of the dishes with an eye toward the flavors, textures and visuals was stellar. The space is small but doesn't feel crowded and isn't noisy. Truly a gem.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there (won't beFirst time there (won't be the last!). Great food - "young lettuce" salad was perfect as were the scallops. Excellent selection of wine - many by the glass at reasonable prices.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dishes were imaginativeOur dishes were imaginative and delicious, presented beautifully and with complimentary tastes. We loved the citrus salad. Only concern was that we did not feel free to lick the plates.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
