Diner Reviews
  • "The only Middle Eastern restaurant in the area, Byrsa has a quaint interior, very friendly proficient staff, and good Mediterranean cuisine which would be better if it had more concentrated flavours. It can be a bit bland. The vegetarian melange is very good, chicken is passable (why with potatoes instead of couscous or rice?), and the salmon well cooked although not sauced. Be sure to save room for desert. Unlike most restaurants in the area, Byrsa has great deserts, Bakalava the best of all. Byob."

  • "this restaurant was such a pleasant find. do note, it is byob and the food deserves a wine complement. the 1/2 salad portions were large and perfect for a first course. the dressings and presentation superb. paella and scallops marvelous and the mushroom soup is not to be missed. would highly recommend."

  • "The chicken tagine was a good meal with excellent ingredients, but it did not catch the seasoned, dried fruit snap that comes with a true Moroccan tagine. Perhaps you are avoiding the sweet lightness that we found throughout Morocco. The dish I had tasted American. I was looking forward to the spices and dried fruit melting the vegetables into the chicken. The flatbread appetizer was wonderful and got that sweetness I was looking forward to."

  • "Our experience was exceptional. We were greeted warmly, seated immediately and fussed over by several employees throughout our meal. Everything was delicious!"

  • "Lucked into a table and were not disappointed. As always the salads were made with only the freshest ingredients and delicious. The main course was special as well, the paella was presented with mussels crammed in so tightly I don't know how they did it. Paella is a signature dish and only gets better. The lamb special paired with rice lentils and peas was such a great combination. Add to that roasted Brussels sprouts and cauliflower and it made for the perfect meal. The consistency of this bistro is what keeps us coming back...always the freshest and always beautifully executed."

  • "There's a reason diners love this bistro. This is Mediterranean fare at its finest - with subtle, well-balanced flavors, good portions, attentive service, all in an atmosphere comfortably suggestive of the cuisine itself. It's worth going out of your way to try this hot spot on Kennett's main drag."

  • "We met friends from Delaware and brought our cousins from Germany. We all agreed that the daily special, lamb chops, was the best choice, but we had several of the regular menu items as well, and all were delicious. The mushroom soup is wonderful!"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Byrsa. The owner personally checked in with us several times and the food was fantastic. Definitely try the corn risotto if available! Pleasant, relaxing evening."

  • "A cozy atmosphere. The raisin bread and type of cornbread were just perfect. We had the mushroom flat bread for an appie-very good. I had the grilled lamb chops with a delicious lentil risotto. My husband had the grilled Branzino-yum! The prices were reasonable and the food was unique. We enjoyed it and recommend it. We used open table for the first time here. Glad we did because it filled right up on a Thursday night!"

  • "Tried several dishes. Sampler had great olives and fresh pita bread, humus was bland and stuffed grape leaves tasteless. Mushroom soup was very nice. Salad was very lightly dressed and the Paella was not authentic but interesting, some of the food was mushy. Prices too high for this level of quality and inconsistency."

  • "This is a really, really good restaurant. First time we've tried the lunch menu. All five entries were excellent. Special kudos to the french toast with nutella and the eggs benedict. In a town (Kennett) with a number of fine restaurants, this is the best."

  • "My lunch experience lived up to the reviews I had read previous to making reservations. The food was very fresh and beautifully prepared. Service was friendly and pleasant. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Disapointed in the Paella-a new dish--not very authentic-I would expect more from this chef. The vegetarian dish was pretty bland. Appatizers a bit expensive but good. Great olives! "

  • "This place was great and perfect to celebrate Mother's day. Took my two little ones and i couldn't be happier with the Staff and the ambiance. The owner very nice and welcoming. The food was out of heaven, Tasty and appetizing. The owner went beyond the menu and made special Pizza for my little Kid. We didn't want to leave. I will definitely go back and recommend to all the people i know. Thank you and Keep up the good work."

  • "Excellent time with the family for dinner on Mothers Day. Food was excellent and this is a BYOB place. I am always a fan of BYOB because the food is just so much better. The only downfall would be that the space is tight so if you have kids it is hard to manuver around. This is not the fault of the restaurant at all. In fact all the servers and even the restaurant owner were extremely friendly, accomodating, and very nice. We got a personal greeting from the owner of the restaurant. This is definitely a place we will come back to again. Our area has very limited Mediterranean/Middle Eastern (Moroccan) restaurants so this is a huge plus."

  • "Great restaurant with solid food with a middle easter accent. Intimate design with a middle east atmosphere not overdone. The service was pleasant and attentive. It's a city experience in the burbs and terrific for a special occassion."

  • "The seafood stew was excellent, but the chicken tajine was disappointing because it lacked interest (little spice was detectable and no nuanced flavors). The salads were interesting and very good."

  • "Made a trip to Winterthur for the day from Philadelphia and noted this restaurant nearby in quaint Kennett Square which seemed to have overwhelmingly good reviews. Happily the food and experience completely lived up to expectations! The meal was really excellent all around. It may be the best BYOB meal I've had - including really great restaurants in the city. Would definitely be worth the trip out for the food, not to mention gorgeous Winterthur and Longwood Gardens!"

  • "Our second visit and it was even better than the first which was hard to top...everything is so fresh and flavorful ...you don't want the mean to end...the paella was full of seafood cooked to perfection..the Bronzino had a crisp skin with a moist inside...pear confit topped the meal..love that it is a byob..the staff is helpful and pleasant .."

  • "Really enjoyable place! The Mediterranean cuisine was different enough to make for pleasant surprises! The Grilled Antipasto appetizer was a nice size and a nice mix of items - all very tasty. I had the Bronzino and my wife had the lamb chops (both specials) and both were well prepared. I like bronzino done with a crispy skin and it indeed was perfect. Extremely friendly staff, including the owner who makes a point of interfacing with each table. Great place. "

  • "My wife and I love Byrsa Bistro. The food is always fresh and well made. The chef excels in all parts of the meal. One thing they do exceptionally well there is the Baklava. We highly recommend it. The Ambiance is exceptional as well. Nestled in downtown Kennet Square the building is narrow but full of brick and stone with big picture windows facing the street. It is a BYOB so make sure you bring your own wine. We highly recommend this place!"

  • "This was my third time at Byrsa and again it did not disappoint. The service was soft yet attentive. The food was well seasoned and presented well. Chicken Tangine delicious. The portion size was good as well. I also had the octopus salad which I thought was cool. It was just the right size and was interesting. All in all a nice Tuesday evening out. Great BYOB. "

  • "We went to Byrsa on a Sat. night for my birthday. Menu was eclectic with plenty of choices. Service was delightful; we were a group of five and never felt hurried or neglected. Can't wait to go again and will definitely tell our friends. Glad to have found another great BYOB."

  • "This is the best, most consistent restaurant we have found in the Wilmington / Philadelphia area. We went with another couple who had never heard of Byrsa Bistro but were pleasantly surprised, from the Sampler Appetizer, to the salads, I had octopus that was tasty, well done, and all the salads were fresh, to the entrees. The seafood branzino and scallop dishes all fresh, well prepared, as was the lamb, followed by baklava. We have now been to this restaurant 12 times, as a couple, with family and with others. All courses are always fresh and well prepared, the owner is knowledgable and helpful, and the food is incredible. There are other pricier restaurants that have higher ratings, and frankly they are not as good as this one. "

  • "Food is good, but the the best. Place is too dark (is there something to hide?). We had two waiters, and the second one had no idea what they can cook for kids. She had to ask someone if they can cook pasta?.... Dont get me wrong, is it a well above average place, and very good for a dinner, but I do not think it deserves such a high rating on TripAdvisor. I guess I had much higher expectations based on the ratings and reviews I read."
