A Traditional Steak and Chophouse restaurant had long been absent in Norfolk. With its opening in 2006, the Byrd & Baldwin Bros Steakhouse filled that void. The only downside was sitting within direct view of the kitchen and right across from the bathroom but that's just being picky. We had a great night."

  • "In celebrating our 10 year anniversary, we could not have been happier to dine at Byrd & Baldwin Bros. Our waiter, Ryan, was in training to be a sommelier and gave excellent wine recommendations in addition to waiting on us hand and foot and answering each question we had. We both had the soups, which were delicious. Our main course was steak, ribeye and filet. Both were delectable and melted in our mouths, and the crab mac and brie cheese was a fabulous side. The complimentary dessert was an unexpected surprise and a delicious combination of chocolate and strawberry. An amazing night, an amazing meal."

  • "This is our second time visiting Byrd and Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse and we were not disappointed. We had some friends in town and wanted to introduce them to the Hampton Road area with a delicious meal! Steaks were all cooked perfectly. Sides (corn and mashed potatoes) were delicious. Desserts were loved all around the table; key lime pie, cheesecake and creme brulee. Definitely recommend Byrd and Baldwin if you would love an impressive meal!"

  • "This place was truly amazing!!! Everything about it screams eat here!!! From our hostess to our Sommelier Chris it couldn't have been better!!! I would drive the 3 1/2 hours it took to get there again just to eat there,.. A true dining experience very romantic with a notable wine list!!! I took my fiancé and his friends there for dinner they have to Wagu steak which in itself is an experience! Their warm spinach salad was wonderful... What a fantastic evening!"

We did not care for the desert. Service was excellent, wait staff was ready available and manager came by and spoke with us. The seating was slightly uncomfortable, but did not take away from dining experience."

  • "When we arrived it was slightly busy but were seated quickly. Additional members of our party arrived a few minutes later. We saw them and waved them over, but the hostess would not let them pass her without allowing her to check for their names on the reservation list, which was completely bizarre and rude. Once we were all seated, we ordered drinks and appetizers. Our waiter, however, refused to simply take our appetizer request and told us that we had to place our entire order at that time as they were "too busy" to try and deal with that inconvenience. The night continued in that way, leaving us feeling unwanted and unappreciated. We will not be returning to Byrd and Baldwin. We have been many times but this experience left us cold."

  • "My husband wanted to try someplace completely new (for us) for his birthday this year. Byrd & Baldwin was WONDERFUL! Our server Josh was great, the food was wonderful, and what I paid was worth what I received, unlike his birthday serveral years ago. While this will be a "special occasion" restaurant for us, we are already planning on taking a family member there for his 80th birthday. We will be back, no question about it."

  • "Our second dinner visit. Specifically requested a quiet table for an anniversary-instead got the one with the direct view of the kitchen and its noise. While the party table near may not have been headed toward shots they were certainly upping the noise level. Food was great but my wife's filet came in well over medium when requested medium rare. Staff pleasantly provided another - which tasted as good as they get. Service started out energetic and OK but took a tad bit long to get a bottle of wine and initial mineral water. It took a steep dive when the crowd picked up. Asked for a second pellegrino but they had run out. Requested coffees did not show up before, with, or after the fantastic creme brulee-though they did make the bill."

  • "When I walked in, I guess I had expected a bit more. Now, don't get me wrong, the food was absolutely fantastic, once I actually received. We sat far too long at our table before we even got our menus, let alone the drink order. Once we were finally able to order our food, it took awhile for it to come out. The food was fantastic, though. Incredibly enjoyable and my husband enjoyed the expansive wine list. Our waiter seemed a bit put off, but it seemed like that's how he was. Valet is offered in front of the restaurant and is totally worth the $5. Parking downtown is horrendous and that area is no different. The valet was incredibly nice and even had our car warm and waiting for us to leave the restaurant!"

  • "First of all, the owner and staff did an outstanding job in making our evening very special. Special thanks to Ryan for his service, attention to details, and sharing information about the food. Chris and Ashley added to the warm welcome as well. The steak tartare was out-of-this-world. We plan to return just for the steak tartare alone. Of course, we will get some other food items. The rib-eye and filet mignon steaks have no equal even at other high end steakhouses. We learned why - ask Ryan. The portions for the sides are really for 2+ persons - a great value. The chocolate dessert was artful and delicious - a must have. Valet parking added to the experience since it was raining. Go for a special occasion or a high quality 3 course meal."

  • "We had a nice night out. The restaurant was a little over pretentious and we didn't hit it off with the waiter (he kept making comments about how much he likes to drink). We both had the filet and it was done as ordered but nothing really outstanding. We may go there again because it has potential. Most restaurants that we frequent have that one dish that makes us want to come back for over and over again (often a starter or desert) but we didn't find it at this one."

  • "I took my wife there for a our anniversary for the first time and was impressed. The food was outstanding from the steak down to the crab corn side dish. My only tiff is the i was seated so close the the gentleman behind me when there was no reason for it be. I remedied this by switching chairs, though I feel this minute detail could have been corrected by them. Overall, I loved it and recommend this place."

  • "Beautiful restaurant-sat for awhile before being greeted and given menus. Spinach salad was excellent. Chef sent out a really good app. On cucumbers- really nice. Martini made with cucumber vodka was really good- portabella and onion side dish tasty and asp was cooked to perfection- very disappointed when we had difficulty cutting our Ribeye steaks. The maître de or manager came over and with such style /grace took them back insisting in replacing both . Everything was replaced , quickly, including the sides! Manager very apologetic very impressed with the way he handled Server was also very apologetic and attentive. Table was wobbly -so we had to balance our drinks while cutting the steaks. Maybe just an off night-"
