Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great dinner here for a party of four. The presentation of their plates was better than most on mamaroneck ave. Also the highlights were the kettle chip nachos were great as an app as well as the nutella pizza for dessert. Drinks were made well too. Definitely will be going back. "

  • "We were there at 6PM on Friday night, the noise was already almost overwhelming. Food was ok, buffalo shrimp were insanly hot and the mezza platter was ok but not as described on menu, I can not stand it when the menu either does not describe the item correctly or the chef decides to put their own flair on it. I order food as it is described on the menu not what the chef decides that day "

  • "What an awesome place to spend Mother's day with my children. The windows and the breeze in White Plains was a perfect combination of country city life without the hassle of parking and NYC crowds. The food was excellent. amazing BBQ sauce on the wings and the pizza sauce was splendid. I want to come back again on a date. Very romantic yet it can be family oriented too."

  • "We went for Mothers day and everything was perfect, the service the food and the ambience. We highly recommend Butterfields for any special occasion."

  • "Modern pub with very large bar area - at least as big as dining room area. Modern takes on pizzas, burgers, pastas, et al. Noisier than average, so better for groups and families than intimate conversation. "

  • "My group had a fun time. It was busy and lively, and our waitress managed to be very attentive despite the larger than normal crowd due to a street fair. We will definitely return again."

  • "We had only been to Butterfield 8 for dinner once for dinner. It had a very energetic atmosphere and the bar was pretty packed. Our food was good, notably the margherita pizza. Brunch was different. The food was good but not anything special, though my husband liked the chorizo sausage in the eggs benedict. The atmosphere was very quiet and the service was not great. Since we were basically the only table I feel like the service should have been better. To be fair, we went at 11:30 on a Sunday when they first opened. But we were there for an hour and a half and it was still quiet when we left. That was ok with us, but if you're looking for a lively brunch place, this isn't it from what I saw."

  • "Great location and ambience, however, food and service are fair at best. They recently made some great upgrades to the menu, but the execution is still an opportunity. App wings are tasty but dry, fish taco's are large in portion but a little dull and bland and the calamari we had was average at best. Great choice if you are meeting up with friends and are not looking for a culinary adventure. All in all just a fair experience...not bad, just not good."

  • "This seems like a nice place for lunch. My first time at the restaurant. It was a Tuesday Lunch and very quiet. The food choices was limited. I had the blankened Tuna and the bun was not toasted and I didnt like it. This restaurant may be better for dinner or happy hour."

  • "Was very excited to have brunch here (had drinks the night before and service was good, nice bar scene) However, brunch was just ok, food was boring and tasteless. The service was super slow and very bad. We had to ask for menus, and constantly ask our server for little things like utensils, salt & pepper, drinks etc. Will not be going back here! Maybe for drinks at the bar but nothing more."

  • "I really like the place. It has a good selection of beers and wine. The good is above average to very good with variances on selections."

  • "Went on a Monday night with (2 adults/ 2 teens). Restaurant was empty. Service was very slow. Food was not very good. Burger and pizza were fine (nothing great) , but salad and salmon dishes were not very flavorful. The salmon was served over beans and soupy sauce...not flavorful and too mushy all around. Waitress was very nice, though. Not her fault kitchen was super slow and food not good. Restaurant is nice looking and has a good vibe and nice bar, but do not think I would return."

  • "Chose Butterfield 8 because the menu was fairly diverse. The food was good. Calamari was very fresh and nicely seasoned. Some items were very spicy so if you are not a lover of spicy food, select carefully. The bar is very active so if you are seated in the large room behind/below the bar level the service is a little slower. Overall a decent place for a night out - would return."

  • "This was my 2nd visit to Butterfield 8. The first time was for lunch and it was quiet. I ordered a salad which was very good. My friend and I had a lovely, quiet, unhurried lunch. I had wanted to go back for dinner. Finally we did on a Friday night. Although the restaurant was not full, it was very noisy. I enjoyed my hamburger, but my boyfriend did not find a lot on the menu that interested him. He was disappointed with what he ordered. Due to the noise level, we had a hard time having a conversation. The waitress gave us time to eat, but without conversation, it didn't take us long."

  • "Food came out very slowly even though restaurant was not crowded. Husband's fish was tasteless."

  • "We had the worst martini we've ever had (how is it possible to mess up a martini?), mediocre food and bizarre service. The restaurant has a million TVs and was super loud even though it wasn't particularly busy. For the prices, this place is a total dud. Don't waste your money. We have tried this place a few times - giving it the benefit of the doubt and hoping it might get better since there isn't much in white plains beyond pubs. Won't be doing that again!"

  • "Food at was very good although the menu seemed a little less upscale than when first opened. The Cobb salad was huge and very fresh, others had the burger and the Grilled Tuna and both were excellent althugh they felt the chips that accompanied the meal were bland. The service, however, needs a retraining or refresh. We had the feeling that our server did not either kniow what he was suppoosed to do or did not want to be there. As an example, he removed the dish that had been holding our calamari appetizer from the table while one of our party had the basket in his hand and was serving himself. Had to set the basket on the bare table. It put a damper on what should have been a pleasant evening."

  • "Our table was poorly neglected by the wait staff. We ordered unlimited mimosas and had to hunt someone down any time we wanted another beverage."

  • "Butterfield 8 has a great crowd of people for happy hour and dinner that make it a fun place to dine at. I enjoyed the food although it was nothing exceptional."

  • "Appetizer selection was limited so we ordered the Fig and Goat cheese pizza. It was delicious! I' want to go back and have it again. I felt the dinners were a little pricey for this type of restaurant but it was good. I don't think I would go for dinner again but definitely that pizza."

  • "Came here for dinner with some co-workers and elected to sit at the bar instead. We had a blast! The music was great, the bartenders were beautiful, and the food was more of what you expect at at fine dining restaurant than a pub. Can't find too may places that have a lively bar scene while offering something on the menu better than old-fashioned pub grub. Butterfield 8 seems to have conquered that niche."

  • "Had Dinner to the Bar Area to catch the Yankee Game. The food was superb and the service was very attentive. And most importantly, they had enough TV's to see the game from every seat in the house. Much more enjoyable to watch a sporting event than the neighborhood sports bar."

  • "We came here for an impromptu birthday dinner. There were 8 of us and they were able to accommodate us quickly. It took almost 10 minutes to get water and when she poured it, she left half of them empty? Brought the wrong bottle of wine, etc etc but bad service can happen anywhere...it may have just been an off night. Anyway, the drinks were good and we had a nice time but the food was average at best. If you are looking for a quality meal I would skip Butterfield but for a night out with friends and wine it's fine."

  • "We had dinner for four on Thursday. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Nice energetic crowd and new menu items. My steak frites was cooked perfectly with nice flavor. My friends all liked their entrees very much. We shared the cookie smash for dessert which was a great ending."

  • "After reading in Westchester Magazine that this restaurant won "Best American Restaurant," we had to check it out. It certainly did not disappoint. The Bar was lively, the Dining Room was full, the service was on point, and the food was impressive. Will definitely return for another meal or a night at the bar."

  • "I read the review in the NY Times and was expecting a bit more. The location is great and parking is easy in the Waller-Maple lot. Other than that...it was a 90+-degree day, and they had all the windows open in the front area for that sidewalk feel, but they REALLY needed to have the air conditioner on. The waiter brought the wrong salad; we didn't say anything because he seemed to be trying hard. Food only so-so. With a/c and a little more attention, this could have been a much better experience."

  • "Butterfield8 was great for semi outdoor eating. They open their doors to the sidewalk so you get the best of eating outside and in. The Mac and cheese is delicious!!!!"

  • "I enjoyed Butterfield 8 with a class mate from White Plains. The salmon was great, and the caesar salad was very good. The pina grigio was excellent . The place was filled with beautiful energetic people. Hot spot for the summer."

  • "No charge for Dad's entrée, very nice. The atmosphere is attractive and seating comfortable. BU8 nearly avoids a cliché chain restaurant vibe in the spacious former men's clothing store, more recently Fed Ex store at the corner of E Post and Mamaroneck. This part of White Plains has become the restaurant row of mid Westchester. The brunch is great. Chicken and waffles come with spicy maple syrup, yum. The steak and eggs had a decent lunch size portion rib eye tender and juicy. No potatoes though."

  • "I came in with a friend and we both loved everything. The dining room is very open, booths are comfy and the kitchen opens up to the dining room - cool atmosphere. Food was great- We had the stuffed meatball and asparagus bruschetta for appetizers and the jambalaya and steak frites for dinner... one of the best steaks I've ever had!! Server was helpful and patient when we had questions regarding the menu. Food also came out quickly which was a plus on a Friday night. Would go back!"
