ButterGreat Fathers day GiftThe food was out standing. Chef Guarnaschelli was at the restaurant that night and made a point of visiting with every diner there. It was overall agreat experience.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMKudos to the ChefCelebrated my birthday with wife and daughter at this visually stunning venue-- We had a great meal-- The star was the asparagus/morels entree--It was extraordinary-- The duck was also amazing-as was the charred octopus--the butter poached lobster not so much( missing something} The desserts were incredible--plum tart great-- cherry tart outstanding as well as the accompanying icecream--Best part of the overall experience wastable hopping by the chef--She visited and greeted each table-- how cool is that!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night!Butter was easy to get to and had GREAT food and GREAT service. The night was capped off by Chef Alex Guarnaschelli coming into dining room and greaating each table. Very classy and gracious!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb dining experience! The best restaurant experience hands down! Food was amazing and the service was impeccable!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMwell executedservice was attentive and unassuming - very pleasant. The food was much better than I thought it would be. Grilled octopus for app and char for main were perfectly seasoned. The raspberry begni (spelling?) for dessert were perfect right down to the excellent french press coffee to accompany. A tad pricey but a great pre-theater at public or Joe's Pub.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThank YouFood was impeccable. Service was amazing. Thank you6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't Wait to Go Here!My daughter watches Chopped and wanted me to go here when I was in NYC on business. I was very happy with the ambiance and the decor. Cool little bar and kinda quiet when I first arrived (although it was early). Had a great table and a very good server. I told him of my daughter's interest in meeting the Executive Chef and owner (Alex from Chopped) and he said she would be in later. The menu is pretty basic and covers all food interests. I had the charred octopus for the first time. It was delicious! Nothing super elaborate or different but yummy! Alex ended up meeting us just before we left and provided a signed photo for my daughter before we left. Really great experience and fun spot!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Dinner at Butter was great! I am a Food Network fan, so was looking forward to trying a restaurant associated with one of their chefs. I will admit that I was a bit apprehensive that this would be overrated and not as good as I was hoping, but it absolutely did not disappoint. Great presentation, wonderful food. Highly recommended.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMButter is FantasticAmazing food, great atmosphere what more can I say. We had an excellent time.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHow Could This Person Work Here?I have dreamed of eating at Butter! We come to NY 5-6 x a year and I take great care picking where to eat and was so excited to eat at this restaurant as I have been a HUGE fan of how much Alex G. LOVES food and speaks of it as if it were the last bite in the world. So we go...the place is breathtaking inside...the food is magnificent...our server was the biggest BORE that it literally detracted from the experience. She offered no description of ANYTHING. I asked what the soup was and she said watercress and walked away....ahhhh...is it hot? Cold? Creamy? Salty? I asked about two different fish dinners and I was told both were great...so I have to say what could have been a prefect meal ended up being a good meal.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals everThs dining experience was one of the best I have ever had. The food was superb, service flawless and the restaurant was beautifully appointed. The only distraction was the noise level. There some some sort of piped in music that could not be heard but for the thumping if the bass. It added nothing to the ambience.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeness! There are no words for how sweet the experience was at Butter! Awesome menu!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, Good Ambience....ButWent to the restaurant for my Girlfriends Birthday and overall had a positive experience (i.e. Food, Decor, and Service)
however, I wouldn't expect a restaurant of that caliber to have a B rating and in that case
I was a bit disappointed......
KMM5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night OutI am a fan of Alex Guarnaschelli and decided for my 39th anniversary to take my wife to diner at Butter. No disappointment. The staff very attentive, ambiance in the main dining room inviting. Love was in the air at Butter; a young man proposed to his future wife. We all became excited and a spontaneous outbreak of applause and enjoy was evident in the restaurant. The food, I ordered cavatappi pasta with spicy lamb sausage as an appetizer, my wife ordered the soup of the day both of us were blown away with the favors. My entree was the hudson valley duck breast, with a fantastic strawberry rhubarb jam. My wife ordered the pan seared striped bass both were a home run. If atmosphere, service, good food is important, Butter is the place.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodFood was excellent recommend the salmon appetizer and the soup , the shrimp main entree was also very good and the halibut was very fresh but the best was the dessert the beignet with the vanilla cream was to die for. Service was good and friendly. The only negative comment was that we could not get a separate bill Definetly a place to try if in New York..5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic FoodI knew when I made Reservations that it was going to be a great dining experience. The food was fantastic and the service was very good. I felt pampered the whole time. I highly recommend Butter for a Special Occasion or a romantic night out. The lighting and decor was very suttle and it made it feel romantic. I would not go there with children as the menu is very adult and I like that because I got to enjoy my dinner. Not to offend people with children, but it seemed very adult there.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dayIt was exactly what I expected. The food was amazing the waiter Sergio was very attentive. Loved every minute.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGoodDinner was good but I would have liked a tasting menu. I also would have like to meet Alex.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic foodWould recommend without hesitation. A meal worth every penny.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentOur experience at Butter was excellent. The service was very good and the food was delicious. Only a couple of quibbles: one is that the plate that my octopus came on was lipless and the sauce spilled onto the dining cloth as I ate, which was unsightly during the rest of the meal. The second was that we decided to have a drink at the bar before dinner, since we got there early and the maitre de had us settle up at the bar before going to the table. The restaurant isn't that big, I've been in far bigger that allowed one to transfer the tab from the bar to the table.
Other than that the Foie Gras was delicious, as was the Octopus. The rosemary biscuit bread was to die for. The fillet of beef I had was perfectly done. Excellent.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, but below my expectationsOctopus appetizer was room temperature. Had expected it to be warm. For my entree I ordered the Pork Milanese. While it was very tasty, I didn't expect to the pork to be so thin and the breading to overpower the meat.
My server was very informative and friendly. Atmosphere was lovely. Overall it was a nice dining experience just a little below my expectations.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant experience.Excellent restaurant experience. There was a private party in one of the rooms which made our wait for food a little long but other than that, everything was excellent. Overall, an amazing experience.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVisiting from VT, we cameVisiting from VT, we came because we had heard of Butter and wanted a special evening out in NYC for mom, dad, and teen daughter. We loved the ambience, service was friendly and efficient. We considered the tasting menu but decided against it, opting to choose from the menu ourselves and sharing vs. putting the chef in the driver's seat. The couple seated next to us chose the tasting menu and definitely sampled things that were not on the menu.
A few hits and misses. Loved the wild salmon and cavatappi pasta appetizers. The sea bass w/romesco sauce was tasty, but there was an insane amount of romesco sauce on my plate. The pork milanese was flavorful, but very heavy. Raspberry beignets to die for.
Diners mostly tourists.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite restaurantsOne of my favorite restaurants in the city. Our server Tony was very polite and was helpful in menu choices. The food was all prepared perfectly and cooked to perfection. My girlfriend and I will absolutely be back again for what I'm sure will be another wonderful night at Butter4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about the restaurantEverything about the restaurant was fantastic. Great spot for a romantic dinner!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting menu with wineGreat tasting menu with wine pairings. They were able to accomodate my food preferences (no beef, pork or lamb). Was delicious.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience at Butter.Great experience at Butter. The food was excellent. The lamb was amazing. My girlfriend loved the filet. Service wa excellent. Did not care for the loud and intoxicated group next to us. Other than that, we had a great time.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved Butter...the foodWe loved Butter...the food was to die for, the service was attentive, friendly and "educated" in a beautiful space. We will go back and would highly recommend,4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur only complaint was thatOur only complaint was that we were seated downstairs rather than in the upstairs dining area. Didn't realize until after the fact that upstairs was much more hip and energetic. Request that!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGood foodA little disappointed in the Customer service (the waitstaff was great) as I had a special request and after a few calls and promises that the mAnager would call, which never happened4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was marvelous. The decor was amazing, very calming.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a great experienceIt was a great experience for a nice night out at a swanky restaurant in NYC. Met my expectations almost entirely (one appetizer was slightly disappointing, still decent) and was a fun place to start Saturday night. It was amazing to see Alex Guarnaschelli come out into the dining room and say hello to people - that made my night for sure.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food and serviceFantastic food and service ! Beautiful restaurant as well
Best deserts .4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our mealWe really enjoyed our meal at Butter -- our last night in New York. My daughter's allergies were very nicely accommodated, and the food was excellent. The room was beautiful and relaxing. A great way to end our wonderful visit to New York City.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fair ....andThe food was fair ....and overpriced. Menu was limited4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy NEW Best Meal Ever! Our experience at Butter exceeded our already high expectations. The decor was striking-modern, but soothing. My octopus appetizer was very tender with just enough heat from the aleppo pepper & chilies and a texture & flavor burst from the roe. The snapper was very crisp, but perfectly moist and soft inside-love the beet vinagrette! The Blood Orange Creme Brulee' was the best any of us have had. All of our group completely enjoyed their meal-the adverturous and not-so-adventurous! I would love to work my way through the menu!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMequisite tasting menu.I had the tasting menu and it was extraordinary. Every dish seemed better than the last. Plenty to eat and great variety. Service was near perfect. Needed a little tutelage on how to serve shared plates.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFANTASTIC food!!!!! GreatFANTASTIC food!!!!! Great service and a subtle, chic atmoshpere.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my fifth visit toThis is my fifth visit to Butter. From my perspective this is the best restaurant in New York. From the quality of the service to the consistent excellence of the food, I have yet to find another that rivals it. I recommend Butter to anyone that wants an outstanding dining experience.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMButter is "melt in your mouth" fun!Butter was "melt in your mouth" delicious!!! The restaurant was beautiful inside. We loved every bite of our wonderful dinner! We both had the most sensational, succulent lamb chops with glazed carrots and parsnips. We started with the tastiest appetizer of mushroom and ricotta crostada and a lovely Caesar salad. It was all "love at first bite."3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSlightly odd mix of trendySlightly odd mix of trendy and fine dining. Nice setting, good food and solid service. Was good for taking some out of town guests for a NYC dinner out.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best food we had in NYC!The best food we had in NYC! Compliments to the chef!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had dinner for 4 at Butter. We had dinner for 4 at Butter. The appetizers were wonderful. Most of the entrees were excellent. The chicken with white beans was just okay. However, the greens on top were so tough that I couldn't cut or chew them and nearly choked trying to eat the first bite. After I discarded the greens, the chicken was okay. All other entrees were excellent (fish, a giant steak, and the ravioli). Desserts were phenomenal (chocolate semifredo and beignets).3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!The food was delicious. We had an 8:00 reservation, checked in at 8:05 and were seated around 8:15...not too bad for a Saturday night. If I had to pick something negative, I would have to point out the noise. I wish it was just a tiny bit quieter...that is me being uber picky, though. I will be back.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, beautifulDelicious food, beautiful decor and great service. I would definitely return again!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but expensiveBeautiful atmosphere , amazing food but very expensive.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for a small brithdayWe went for a small brithday celebration with 4 adults and 1 child. Although we brought our own booster seat, they were very accommodating and made sure our child was comfy. The food was great, as should be expected from Chef Guarnaschelli.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile the menu is small orWhile the menu is small or focused we never want for geat3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Alex creativityExcellent menu. Attentive waitstaff. Romantic ambiance. I would highly recommend it.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall great experience!Fantastic experience from the very beginning! The greeters were wonderful and right away made us feel welcome and special. I made note on the reservation that it was a special occasion - our mothers 70th birthday. They engaged in a very sweet exchange with her, wished her a happy birthday and made all of us feel special. Our waiter, Edward (I think that was his name...he lives on Coney Island), was superb! Great personality, explained the dishes perfectly and took the time to answer our questions. He made wonderful suggestions from the wines, entrees and dessert. Loved chatting with him and hearing his expertise on NYC...since we were visiting from out of town. The food was fantastic! We enjoyed the chicken, filet and ravioli.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
