Diner Reviews
  • "Went to this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday night. Restaurant wasn't busy so we were seated immediately. There was only one waitress for our half of the restaurant which meant service was very slow. Our drink orders (just soda) came fairly quickly but the appetizers and the entrées took a while. However, the quality and quantity of the food made up for that. Dishes were well seasoned and portions were generous. I'll be back. After all, it's mostly about the food."

  • "Excellent service, excellent drinks, very friendly atmosphere. The staff was exceptionally attentive without rushing us. Great Ossobuco, but served with IMITATION potatoes! I was shocked. Go for the Italian fare, I'd have to say, no potatoes there. Will try again when I'm in the mood for lasagna."

  • "Went there for lunch. My lunch date had a salad with grilled chicken and liked it a lot. I had a chicken parm sandwich and it was very dry and tasteless. Our waitress took our order but did not deliver it nor check up on us. I had to ask for drink refills from the bus person and for another waitress to find ours to get the check."

  • "This is our go to local spot for Italian. They make the classics, like chicken parm and lasagna, but also some special dishes. I love the grilled chicken with fresh spinach and fresh mozzarella. The baked pasta dishes are also delicious. The portion sizes are large, so it is a good value. We always order individual dinners, never family style. Really reasonably priced wine list as well."

  • "I went with my in-laws, parents and husband. As always, the food was phenomenal. We went for the Smithtown Restaurant Week Prix Fixe menu and the selection was awesome. There was something for everyone and more. It was hard to choose off the list. I'll definitely be back."

  • "We've been to Butera's on numerous occasions and the food and service are always good. The noise level can be very loud sometimes when there is a group of 12 or more at a table ( Birthday party, engagement, anniversary...etc. ) That should be expected cause people are excited and the noise level always seems to rise. Overall, Butera's is worth the trip !"

  • "They seated us at a table close to the kitchen-it was not a very good spot-way to much traffic- I was expecting to have a nice romantic dinner with my husband and it was not that at all. I liked my dish which was a broccoli rabe and chicken sausage lasagna-my husband had a pasta dish with chicken meatballs the pasta was over cooked and the dish did not have enough sauce on it-very dry. Also I thought a lot of the staff were very unprofessional-they would be walking out of the kitchen chewing on food also when the busboy came to clean the table apparently he was eating something too-I also saw the hostess walking out of the kitchen eating yogurt."

  • "We waited 20 minutes past reservation time and the noise level was so loud you couldn't converse at all. The food was good but not anything special. Service was fine. I would not return to this restaurant. I do not recommend at all."

  • "Terrific dishes, ample portions, and friendly staff and up to a terrific dining experience. Our waiter was fantastic! Note: the place can get noisy making conversations difficult to hear."

  • "Butera's is great because it has something for everyone. I was thinking of going to Casa Rustica or Villa Sorrento for my birthday dinner, but I thought their menus were both too expensive (my mom was treating) and more for foodies than someone who wants traditional Italian. Had it just been me and my husband, I would've gone elsewhere. That being said, our service was great, the appetizers were excellent and the dinner was good. Just good - I'm not going to say excellent. I like to cook myself so when I go out, I expect to be bowled over by the food. It was fine and we had a lovely birthday dinner with my mom, hubby, daughter and boyfriend and that's what really counts. Great place for group."

  • "We received a gift card from Christmas that we used. The food and service was really good. The restaurant was extremely loud and busy. It made it very difficult to talk to the other party at my table. Also, as the servers were serving they kept bumping into our chairs as there wasn't much room to move around comfortably."

  • "2 people at our table found something at the bottom of their coffee cup. One found paper and the other found a tooth pick."

  • "We were a party of 5 with a reservation at 3:30. Two of us sat down at 3:40 and were told that the lunch menu ended at 4PM. The two of us ordered drinks. The other 3 arrived at 3:45. They ordered drinks. We were ready to order at approximately 4PM. The lunch menus were taken away and we were told we missed ordering from the lunch menu. It wasn't about the money, it was the principal. Almost all restaurants that I have been to, if you're seated before a deadline, they will honor whatever special deal they have - whatever time it ends."

  • "Went for Valentine's Day and while the reservations were for 8:45, being seated at 9:00 was a little annoying. The food was really delicious, especially the escarole! Having a bottle of champagne would have been better if our waitress had remembered the chiller container. The dessert was simply stunning, an Amaretto and almond cake served with vanilla ice cream on the side. This was our second trip and will certainly not be the last! Great Italian food!"

  • "This is not the first time we have dined at Butera's. We have spent the last three Christmas Eves dining and each time had a wonderful experience. This time it was 8 women of various ages getting together to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. We each loved the food and Christina was a great hostess. We loved the desserts especially the raspberry cheescake and almond cake with warm amaretto sauce and vanilla ice cream. Bravo! You all made mom very happy!"

  • "To be blunt? It was OK. Wouldn't go back. Food was OK, The dining room is very loud. Nothing about this place I would go back for. Spend your money somewhere else."

  • "I was not pleased with this restaurant at all!!!! We usually go to the Buteras in Sayville but they were unable to accomadate us due to a large party so figured we go the the Smithtown one. Food was very good but the prices were much more than they are in Sayville for the same meal. Each family style dinner was atleast $10.00 more than the Sayville location for the same food. I would not go back to the Smithtown restaurant ever again. We did ask why the prices were so much higher and our answer was well we are better than the Sayville one. Have checked and seen the Woodbury location is the same prices as Sayville."

  • "We can't count the amazing meals we've enjoyed at Butera's over the years. They're friendly, the place is lovely, and the food is excellent.! Highly recommend it for family get togethers or romantic twosomes!"

  • "I would not recommend this restaurant to others. The overall service was poor. I waited 45 minutes after my reservation time to be seated and had to go up to the hostess stand twice to make sure we were not forgotten. At no time did one of the 2 hostesses mention that the wait was going to be so long. The food was overdone. Management ignored our table but did go to other tables to check on the dining experience. The waitresses dropped the check but never came back to pick it up. We had to remind her for bread and hummus. The dinners were okay - the tuna was over done. There was chicken fat on my cutlet."

  • "The food and service at Butera's were very good. The noise level, however, was intolerable. There was a table of six right next to us that was outrageously loud and the management made no effort to ask them to tone it down. Our party of five all ended the evening swearing to never return. In addition, the parking situation is really frustrating. We had to look all over for a parking space and finally had to settle on a spot three lots away. The long walk to and from the restaurant in freezing weather also helped with our resolve to never return. It's too bad because we really did enjoy our meal."

  • "I took my entire team for our Holiday lunch and it was great. From the sliced steak sandwhich to the scallop salad, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal! The service was timely and extremely courteous, getting us in and out with the unfortunate time constraints of a work lunch!"

  • "We found the food to be very good, not to mention plentiful. Even though the restaurant was crowded as it was New Year's Eve, management moved the table to separate us from sitting too close to the adjacent table. This was very considerate and showed that they are concerned about their patrons. We will certainly be back. Thank you Butera's for providing us with a very nice start welcoming in 2014."

  • "Why take reservations if they are not going to be honored? I understand 10-15 minutes tops but 45?? Unacceptable. The food is good and our server was good. The place is way too loud for us. Have to yell to have a conversation especially when they put a table for 2 surrounded by large tables. If it wasn't for the fact I was given a gift card I would not eat here. Too Loud!"

  • "I have been going to this restaurant for years . We had my Daughter's engagement party at their location in Woodbury. My Daughter and her husband still go for Happy hour on Fridays. I now go to the location in Smithtown . and I very happy with the Food, its a great neighborhood Gem with a nice wine list ."

  • "Despite the crowd for Christmas Eve dinner and take out, Buteras once again was a wonderfully enjoyable experience. We had a waiter names Jake who was so upbeat and efficient and the food was delicious, and the service was great, even though they were sooooo busy."

  • "The food was good, but there was nothing special about any of the dishes we ordered. Typical American Italian food for a higher cost. Even their "Butera Signature" dishes were common. Thank being said- the restaurant is beautiful, and wait staff is superb."

  • "I thought the service and food quality were very good to excellent. Wine list and desserts were also very good. Everyone received a nice meal except me. I asked for the Chicken lemon cello as a main meal instead of an appetizer and received only six shrimp. i should have looked at the bill because it was still over $200. I think I was charged for a dinner anyway. Needless to say, I scrambled for leftovers from the other plates on the table to fill my stomach. I guess three out of forum dinners is good!"
