  • "Had a great time bringing a good friend of mine out for his birthday. Sampled the sausages, they were great! Then on to the main course - we shared the beef long rib and mahi mahi with the "tried and true" spicy brussel sprouts plus carmelized broccoli, it was a meal fit for a couple of kings even though we had to skip the unbelievable desserts!! We will be back, probably separately with our families and hopefully for future birthdays together as well."

  • "Have been to local grocery store cooking sessions featuring Butcher & the Boar chef's and receipes. This led my wife and I to book a reservation at Butcher & the Boar 4-5 weeks out. The restaurant is not overly large (not including the Beer Garden outside) but very loud. The food experience was unique in that the vast majorit of the menu is meat related...And the meat is fantastic. My wife and I enjoyed the chacruterie and the braised long rib and the meal was excellent. Not the kind of food that you can enjoy on a regular basis...so we'll be going back in a few months to enjoy something else!"

  • "After reading all the critic's reviews and hearing all the hype, our experience at Butcher and the Boar fell short of our expectations. Our server was very rushed, and she didn't explain the menu well. It was very unclear to us what dishes were considered small plates and what dishes were considered entree size. We had to continue to ask several questions to get the information we needed. This could easily be remedied by having better descriptions in the menu. The food was delicious, but because of a lack of descriptions, we ended up ordering all spicy dishes, and had nothing to balance that out. Conversation was also very difficult because of the noise level."

  • "Had high hopes after reading all the rave reviews. Came here for wife's birthday. Food wise: The charcuterie plater was fantastic and will reorder anytime, same with the oysters, it was amazing! Wife did not like the shirt rib. Tried it, it was ok, not bad, but nothing special. My bacon wrapped tenderloin was cooked perfectly medium rare, not an easy task on a 2.5" piece of steak. It was fantastic. The red hot Brussels sprouts were not for us. Let's just say we wash had to bites and never touched it again. The mash was pretty good. The pistachio tart for dessert was ok and non-memorable. Red wine list was disappointing for a joint like this and the two red wines that I tried, including a house exclusive, was acceptable at best."

  • "I was in town for a conference and didn't want the usual chain stuff I can have back home. There were six in my party and we all found the food to be amazing. From the long rib and combo sausage platter to the amazing sides, this place is truly one of a kind and I would love to be able to come eat here again. The only downside the night we attended was the actual room temp. I was a little warn so make sure you have lagers you can get out of easily."

  • "Amazing food! If you like meat, then this is your restaurant. The entrees are big, big enough to share. Can't express how wonderful the food was. Beer selection is very nice. Only knock is that the seating is extremely tight, you literally sit 2ft from the people beside you. Can hear everything they are saying & vice versa."

  • "This place is so cool, we loved tent enclosed outdoor space and the dining room is beautiful. We shared the ribs and the cheese grits. Really enjoyed this as well as the Turkey Braunschweiger, oysters and fries appetizers. The drinks are very good and the service was very nice, informative but never intrusive. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the dessert, pistachio tart with apricots was rather dry. We will absolutely be back! I think this is a fun place and impressive to bring guests."

  • "Service was excellent, our waiter gave us great advice especially about the size of dishes. I was ready to order a lot more than we could ever have eaten, as it was we took some home. Definitely a meat eaters must try spot! I am not much of a carnivore but there were enough options to keep me happy and very full! It was easy to understand why this restaurant stays so popular."

  • "I brought my family here while they were in town for my birthday weekend, and we had a great time! We arrived early and had a drink in the beer garden, which I can only imagine is amazing in the summertime! Even though we checked in for our reservation before we went in to the beer garden and were told we would be all set right at the time of the reservation, we did end up having to wait about 20 minutes for our table, which I wasn't too happy about, but the staff was gracious about it and even comp'd our sausage appetizer as an apology, which righted everything in my book. I work in restaurants so I know how things can go. The food was amazing though, we all enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the long rib and the brussel sprouts!"

  • "We read about this place on the internet when looking for a new restaurant to try. it was voted the best in Minnesota. Made reservations online a few days prior as we heard it was a must. We were running a bit ahead of schedule so tried to move it up but it was full! (I find that to be encouraging). We were greeted promptly and lead to our table. Wait staff was ever present but let us enjoy our conversation without being overly attentive. Ordered For the Table - a sampling of house cured meats with mustard & pickles. Delicious. Then the 32 oz TBone (enough for 2) which was perfectly seasoned and prepared then sliced for us. Must have - the red hot Brussel Sprouts. We had a great time and the food was excellent!"

  • "This is what food should taste like when dinning out! The Pork chop was Amazing in every way and the Bacon wrapped tenderloin was out of this world! Now that's how every steak should be cooked every time I order one! Fried green tomatoes... Have em for an appetizer- can you say yuuuuum! Wow and the brusselsprouts also wonderful... Great great great! We will return, it is worth every penny spent!"

  • "I never saw our waiter's face because he always came to the table from behind. Never knew his name to be able to ask for him. He took my husband's drink order, but never asked if I wanted anything. We were seated promptly, served our drinks promptly, received our "snack" promptly and received our meal in about 10 mins. from ordering. The last thing we finished were our drinks and we were finished and out the door in precisely 60 mins. I felt like they were trying to get us out as fast as possible. It was a very disappointing anniversary dinner. Will never return solely based on the service. We were looking forward to it for the past month and all I can say is that it was a beautiful Sunday evening to walk away."

  • "Much has been said about the entrees so thought I'd add comments about their pistachio chocolate dessert. It was wonderful, unique - not too sweet. With your eyes closed it might remind you of a warm and soft, dark chocolate chip cookie served over honey cream. My husband and I split it and could easily be split between 4 people. As others said the portions are generous so we split the lettuce wedge, bacon wrapped tenderloin, mushroom side and cornbread side. Would like to have seen a lower calorie, healthy option available for sides - a simple baked potato. The cornbread was delicious, made in an individual iron skillet. (could be considered dessert)"

  • "Food was great! Had a nice large drink list and tried a great martini with Prosecco. It was a fun experience for a special occasion. The meat is fresh and could easily be shared. The noise level is high so if someone has a hard time hearing, it may be difficult to hold a conversation. It was a fun evening. It is very busy on a weekend so make sure you make a reservation."

  • "Really fantastic food - lots of meat and sausage on the menu - good beer list too - bourbon and whiskey abound! Service was good, if a bit pushy to 'turn the table', we like to linger. A bit pricey - split an entree and salad with a few drinks was over $100. Most pricey valet $9 per car. come on!"

  • "As the title suggests, I think that Butcher and the Boar is a good restaurant but not all it's cracked up to be. This was the second time that my boyfriend and I've been here. The first time was exciting because we were trying a new place and I think we got caught up in the hype. I say that because this time around, we realized the food was good but it didn't wow us. The ice cream that we had for dessert also didn't wow us. We've had ice cream that was made in-house at other restaurants that was extremely flavorful. I thought the best part of my meal were the sides. We have the skillet cornbread and sweet potato. Both were delicious. Seating by entrance needs to be spread out. Tables are too close together. Not good for a romantic dinner."

  • "My husband and I went here for his birthday. I reserved our spot 2 weeks in advance, only to get an 8:45 reservation -- and I can understand why! This place is absolutely outstanding. It was very busy, packed to the gill, but our service didn't suffer because of it. We sat at a booth in the bar, and the scene was lively but not obnoxious. For drinks, my husband had a sazerac (we've been to few places who even know how to make one, let alone have it on the menu!) an I had a glass of wine. We had a spicy sausage link for an appetizer; I had the lobster grilled cheese with some mashed potatoes, and my husband had the duck. I don't even have words for how delectable everything was. I would recommend everything we had to anyone. Delicious!"

  • "Was out of town and this restaurant was recommended. Very easy to find and near some other night life and bars, so very convenient. Was surprised at how busy it was on a Tuesday night, I guess it speaks to a quality dining establishment. Great atmosphere, very warm and inviting along with the great aromas of the kitchen made this a wonderful find. I ordered the filet wrapped in bacon and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly and covered in a very tasty sauce (still not sure what was in there but very good!) My only complaint was that the seats were a little close together with your neighbor tables, so don't expect a private setting, and finally it was just a little loud to have a good conversation."

  • "We had a fantastic time. The food was great. The service was even better. We were treated exceptionally well. Several different managers came by to welcome us. The beer list was pretty good with a few excellent selections. Even though they don't have a kids menu, our kids loved it. The noise was loud, but is was still easy to talk to one another and be heard without yelling."

  • "We had a reservation made 2 weeks in advance (it's hard to get in). We got a 2 top in the bar area but would have preferred the dining area. We sat TOO close to 2 other couples. Heard Sex Pistols and Social Distortion playing, seemed out of place. The food was very good. Cured meat platter was somewhat good. THe turkey liver was a bit off. Cheddarwurst delicious. Stuffed jalapenos were just ok although highly recommended to us by our server. Beer selection was quite nice though. I might go back but I won't miss it if I don't."

  • "Butcher and The Boar lived up to its hype. The entrance was welcoming. We were greeted with smiles and enthusiasm. Our waitress supplied the perfect amount of attention. On this particular evening there was a show to attend after dinner. The waitress made note of this - there was an obvious attempt to get our order in and onto our table. But there was no compromise to the service nor the quality of the food. We ordered the Berkshire Pork & Cheddar. Yummy. We shared the Double Cut Smoked Pork Chop. The pork chop was beutifully presented on the plate. Most impressed with the perfect cook - consistent the whole way through. The smoke was perfection. The split pea sala verde was perfection. So yeah, perfection."
