Butcher & the BoarGreat Food but LoudFood is great! The dining space is small and they pack you in. All of the interior is hard surface and it's very loud. It was hard to hear the people sitting across the table from me. Not the place for a quiet romantic dinner.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBig portion with big flavorsIt's tasty from appetizers, sausage, entree, to dessert. Even cocktails are good. Go with empty stomach and extra cash. It's worthy.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded my expectationsI was a little nervous about the restaurant because I'm not a huge fan of sausage or charcuterie, but the other food on the menu is really good as well. The skirt steak was great, so well seasoned and service with a spicy sauce. We enjoyed everything. The service was also good. Definitely on the noisy side!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night Butcher and the BoarOne of our friends recommended this restaurant and we decided to go before a show at the Orphem. The service was good and I would recommend reserving on Open Table before hand since I believe almost all of the tables were reserved. We decided to have the long rib, recommended by our server, along with broccoli, cornbread and their texas sausage. The broccoli and texas sausage were really good and had a lot of flavor; however, the cornbread was average at best and the rib was a tough cut of meat. If you are considering this restaurant I would highly reccomend the sausage since it is what they do best and probably not venture too far away from there.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMRest upBourbon is beautiful, wild boar ham sublime. Cuts are huge: your eyes and ambitions will inevitably be bigger than your stomach.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Food and Bourbon FlightsStarting the meal with bourbon flights is a special treat. We ordered many things and shared at our table. Every morsel brought sounds of delight from all the diners. I'm looking forward to the next time I get a chance to dine at Butcher and the Boar.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely delicious! We loved our first experience here, and will definitely be back with a group! We had the sausage sampler - so tasty, and really enjoyed the accompaniments to each style of sausage as well. We also had the sweet potato side, and the brussel sprouts side - excellent! So much food for the two of us. Our server graciously wrapped up the leftovers and stashed them for us, as we had a theatre performance to catch.
Excellent service, and a menu we can't wait to dive into again. Love this place!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHaving guests from EuropeHaving guests from Europe and China, I found the perfect American restaurant in the Butcher & the Boar. We all enjoyed it so much. Great and unusual food, the perfect outside atmosphere and super relaxed at the end of a long business day. We loved the dirty wild rice and the lobster grilled cheese! Our party included a two year old and five adults and the waitress really let our kid play without getting stressed. She was smiling and attentive and let us sit at the table for hours.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat fun time atmosphereThis restaurant is great for a special occasion dinner. You need to be prepared to spend some money as you will need an appetizer before the main course. There was a great amount of noise in the restaurant so it's not a place for those who are looking to talk intimately. Overall, a great atmosphere and a great meal!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter making reservationsAfter making reservations I had to call twice to change them that night (change in party size and couldn't make it on time due to my cat died). Both times the host was incredibly nice and worked to fit us in no matter what (even though they were booked). The food was absolutely amazing, they gave my fiancee a free drink for his recent graduation and the server was so helpful about recommendations and was just all around a great server. It was a bit loud but that's to be expected from a packed house. I cannot wait to go back.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dinning experience wasThe dinning experience was exceptional and the food was decadent... It made my boyfriend's birthday celebration quite memorial. We will be back for sure to try your steak skirt and the Hawaiian Mahi Mahi again! Awesome service overall, from the time we entered to when we departed.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome spot! This spot is perfect for Minneapolis. Great atmosphere, along with delicious food make for a fun night out. Less formal is definaty better. This is winning concept.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA First Time CustomerOur meals were well prepared, nicely presented and most importantly tasted great. Although meat was the predominant menu entree, there were plenty of other great choices, so don't view this restaurant as only a steak place. The portion sizes were generous and you best be hungry if you order the pork chop, it is enormous. Our waitress was attentive and the pace of our meal was relaxed.
The restaurant was crowded and quite noisy. The tables are very close and the groups at the tables next to us were so loud my wife and I had a hard time talking to each other. If our visit was representative of an average evening, I would not view this as a place for a quiet romantic dinner but a good place for a meal with a group of friends.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BBQFirst time at The Butcher and the Boar. Can' t wait to go back. It was so much fun and the food..fantastic!!! We may eat red meat perhaps once a month. Oh my gosh...the sausage so good, the ribs amazing...sides same. This the place to go! The portions are generous, I would suggest sharing a main course and sampling the apps. Trust me, you won't be disappointed...and not to be overlooked...The Staff rocks!!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenalHighly recommend this place. You're going to want to go with a group so you can try everything!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us sat in a boothFour of us sat in a booth in bar area. A little too loud, but not sure it would have been any better in dining room area?
Food was outstanding!
Service started out slow but was adequate as we were not in any rush - and didn't feel pushed to finish to open up the table.
We would absolutely go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm just not fond of restaurantsI'm just not fond of restaurants where one has to shout to the people at one's own table. And the butcher-block table may be cute, but the giant table legs for EVERYONE's knees weren't so fun. But the food really did live up to its reputation, and the staff did a good job of keeping glasses full, etc. I'd definitely like to go back just for the desserts!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionOne of my top two meals ever.... and I travel extensively and eat out at great resturarants often. Erery thing was in place.... from the sauces, musturds, pickles, relishes, to the unbelivable meats..... lamb was perfect and the charcuterie was world class. To the great cocktails....fab service and tasty desert. I also have a new found respect for brussel sprouts!!!
Well Done.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth it!I had heard the hype and my husband really wanted to go. There are times with so much hoopla that it does not live up to the hype. Butcher and Boar does!! It wad delicious. We had scallops, rib and sampler plate along with mushrooms and fried green tomatoes, per our servers recommendations. It was fabulous. I am not a fried grn tomato fan, but those were amazing. Husband loved his rib and the scallops were cooked perfectly! Husband already knows he wants the steak the next time we go. Wonderful! The noise level was a little high, but we could still chat and seemed normal for the excitement and enjoyable experience of eating here.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food; Great Service. My boyfriend and I went to Butcher and the Boar for his 30th birthday dinner. I was excited to treat him to a place we've been excited about for a while and made reservations well ahead of time. The dinner time of 8 and our party of two left us at a crowded table near the entry at first, but the host did move us to a less intense section after we seemed less than pleased with the first choice. The second table, still, lacked any kind of intimacy, which is why I wouldn't rate the place as "romantic." I have celiacs and our server was quick to help clarify menu items. She was wonderful in pointing out options and making suggestions. The timing of the food was perfect. And the food was simply perfect. The wine list was overpriced.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pork chop!!We have been meaning to try Butcher & the Boar but finally got a chance when an out of town friend was here and we were looking for a carnivore experience. Everything we ordered was very good and wait staff were excellent at explaining any questions on the menu we had. My pork chop was outstanding, perfectly cooked, tender, and juice; though massive so when they recommend sharing a few of the main dishes, listen.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisy, but worth every decibelThis was my fourth visit, and each time I come here I am delighted by the service and high quality of the food. I seem to have gotten into a bit of a rut though, as I simply adore the petite wedges salad, the pork and cheddar sausage, and the Hennepin Manhattan. New for me this time was the Chocolate Diablo Bread Pudding, which is a new favorite for me. The only thing that could possible make it better would be to incorporate peanut butter somehow (ok, I have a thing for chocolate and peanut butter).
We arrived early - 5:30 - and by the time we left, the place was rocking. Every table full, and everyone having a good time. I'm not sure why they all feel the need to shout at each other though. Makes for a noisy dining room. ;-)5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was difficult to get aIt was difficult to get a drink at the bar when we were waiting for our table. We actually didn't get one. It would be nice for a small spot to be left open to walk up and order a drink. Other than that, great night with delicious food!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and Fun AtmosphereWe sat in bar area, and bartender served us. He was attentive and offered great suggestions on wine and food. A guest had an unusual request and he did not blink an eye to accomodate.
Love the energy of the place...great outdoor area...I eat all over U.S. in great restaurants..this rates among the best. A little noisy , but that adds to the energy of the place.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dining experienceThe food was fantastic! It literally changes flavor in your mouth! I highly recommend this restaurant that is fit for pretty much any occasion.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, ambience and serviceFood, ambience and service were very good! Only negative, the noise level made conversations difficult.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstandingThe food and service were outstanding we had the flat iron steak (excellent) and the pork chop (excellent) plus corn bread (a little bland) and the broccoli (very good). Our third time at B and the B, gets better every time!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSo glad I'm not a vegetarian!Marvelous meal - the charcuterie plate was amazing...the liverwurst melted in your mouth and the sausages each held its own special flavor. The lamb & ribs were so flavorful, tender and perfectly cooked. Our server was very knowledgable on the menu & the bourbons. The only wrinkle in a perfect meal was slow beverage service...it was hard to catch the server to get another drink, it then took quite a while to come and the coffee came after dessert was finished.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat parking, great food,Great parking, great food, Fabulous service. I was told it was a pork resturant, and I am not much of a pork eater. I was surprised to find lamb on the menu and as a special that night. It was fabulous!I enjoued every bite. I look forward to returning.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Butcher & the Boar was the BestThe food itself was outstanding! The wait staff was friendly & knowledgable about the menu. We will definately be back.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMMy party of four loved theirMy party of four loved their entrees, sides, cocktails everything! We'll be back!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent andThe food was excellent and a new experience for some people. Service was outstanding. Only complaint, the tables are too close together, hinders conversation, the wait staff had their rear on our table when serving the table next to us. Other wise everything was great and we will retun to try other menu items since as items passed our table we would ask what that was and wondered if we had made the right choice. (We did and we were not sorry). The Tap Beer selection had deminished somewhat and my intial selections were not available but was still able to select a tap beer that was very satisfying.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding, staffFood was outstanding, staff very friendly and efficient4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dinner. Great food.Fantastic dinner. Great food. From the bourbon flight to the cheese plate, wine, quail, skirt stake and dessert - amazing meal. Loved our server Michelle. Can't wait to go back!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting menu with manyInteresting menu with many delicious choices! Server was attentive and helpful! Enjoyable dining! Can't wait to return.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMbirthday celebrationWe had a party of six and it was so loud in the restaurant we had to shout just
to talk to people on the other end. We all tried each others food and in my
opinion, the pork chop was outstanding. I ordered the ribs which were very
tender, but I didn't care for the spicy molasses sauce on it. Skip the mashed
potatoes, but definitely order the loaded beans, corn bread and fried green
tomatoes. Wine and bourbon list was awesome. Best old fashion I've ever ordered.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFit for FoodiesGreat food and service. Table is small and not enough room for the amount of food that was ordered. Noisy atmosphere and tables are right next to each other. Sweet potatoes, cedar planked mushrooms, and cornbread are great accompaniments with the pork chops and sausages. Try the stuffed jalapeno and charbroiled oysters. They're delicious.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI had seen good reviews andI had seen good reviews and decided to take my husband, a foodie, for his birthday. He loved it! One of the first things he said was that he wanted to come back. We got the sausage sampler with sides of sweet potato, spicy brussels sprouts and the pickle plate appetizer. The mole sauce was outstanding! My favorite sausage was the wild boar. I also really liked the cole slaw that came on the side and I normally don't like cole slaw. The wait staff was great and paid attention to the fact that I had put a note on my reservation regarding the fact that it was my husband's birthday. Great menu, great selection for beverages, overall an awesome experience.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a must stop restaurantThis is a must stop restaurant if you are in Minneapolis and like meat, also have 18 beer on tap some from local brewery's. Try the 2 sampler plates and the stuffed poppers. Reasonable pricing and great scene. Reservations needed!!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is amazing. YouThe food is amazing. You need to make a reservation to get in but it worth the wait!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTop notch diningStarters were even better than the entree, although everything was excellent. I've already made another reservation!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and beer, especiallyGreat food and beer, especially for carnivores. Service was fast and neat. Must have a reservation even on weekdays.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat "meaty" experience!Menu was very unique (very good) for meat heavy restaurant. Food was great, service very good, ambiance outstanding. Would highly recommend.
Pete4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I celebratedMy husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Butcher and Boar. Our server was attentive while allowing us to take our time and enjoy our evening. The food was wonderful and we loved that the dishes encourage sharing. Great wine and burbon list. The atmosphere was casual yet chic and not stuffy. Overall we had a great time!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional restaurant - a must do!We were told by a friend who is a chef that Butcher and the Boar was one of his favorite restaurants in Minneapolis and otherwise - so we knew we were in for a treat but never could have imagined. The ambiance is energetic, hip, and inviting. The service was second to none. The wine and whiskey list were both amazing (My husband and I did a whiskey flight). And the food was INCREDIBLE. I had the leg of lamb, and my husbabd had the long ribs... We shared the fire coal sweet potato (eat the skin, it is delicious), and the fried green tomatoes and mussels. Everything was so delicious, it was one of the best meals I have tasted in awhile and we do a lot of traveling and are huge foodies. Definitely a must do! I plan to go back soon!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for carnivores! We totally enjoyed our experience at the Butcher & the Boar. The Food and service was great. The waiter made great recommendations. Highly recommend the sausage sampler.
I am a whiskey lover and was able to sample many that I had not tried before.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentVery enjoyable experience. The sausage sampler platter and long ribs were to die for.
