  • "The menu has some great options, and many that you don't find very often. Of course, that means that some things require a little more "adventurous" palate. Of course, there was steak and ribs, but the foie gras, headcheese, and roe-topped lamb brains were not really an option for my 6yo or 69yo. :) That narrowed the options. Lobster grilled cheese was good, ribs were tasty but a little overcooked, and my son's hot dog was very, very good - but not for a 6yo. It was too "spicy" for him. The service issues that are in other reviews seem to have been fixed. There were two gaps where I waited a little longer than I would have liked (for our first drinks and after we had finished eating), but otherwise, the service was very good."

  • "This was our first visit. It certainly won't be our last. It was our 40th anniversary. The food portions are very generous. Had we not had a gift certificate, we would have split much of our meal and still have been stuffed! Everything was beyond delicious. Our children are foodies and insisted we try your restaurant. Great choice!"

  • "Service was attentive, and the bourbon and beer lists among the best. The food, however, was salty and overpriced. Even the small basket of crackers, for which we were charged $3, was over-salted--as were the 4 small oysters for $16. Much of the food was spicy, which we like, but there was little on the menu to offset it. On the sweet side, even the cornbread was soaked in sorghum. Overall, very disappointing."

  • "We received a gift certificate from friends so needed to try this! You can see chefs cooking food and it all looks so good! My wife and I split the ribs and two sides and had a sausage for an appetizer. It was plenty of food and very tasty. We ordered the caramelized broccoli and the baked sweet potato. The broccoli sounded really good, but was just ok. The rest was really good!"

The food was amazing. Everything had fantastic flavor, was cooked perfectly and had wonderful presentation. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice upscale dinner."

  • "We enjoyed a housemade sausage as an appetizer- it had cheddar and broccoli- delicious! We splurged on the long rib and it was so worth it. Probably one of the best pieces of meat you will ever have. We paired it with grilled asparagus and the beer battered fries. Everything was incredible!"

  • "We've been to this restaurant a few times but will not return in the future. While the food is still good, some things were not particularly so. The brussel sprouts were small and bitter. The worst part of the evening was the service. The waiter took too long to come to our table when we sat down - we finally had to ask another waitstaff to send him over. Throughout the meal things were late getting to us or forgotten. Also, the noise level in the restaurant is deafening. We couldn't wait to get out of there and onto the street so we could have a normal conversation."

  • "Friday night - packed restaurant at 8:30 pm and when we left at 11 pm. We ate in the lounge (bar) as it was "quieter" than the main dining room. Excellent service, very large portions - all fit for sharing. Pickled veggies as a starter were great, spicey Brussel sprouts were a flavorless soggy mess. We had the oxtail terrine - very good, and the more than impressive, excellent fall-off-the-bone long rib. massive amount for 2 people. Excellent food, excellent people watching, a happening place. Not the place for quiet, romantic conversations."

  • "Have eaten at B&B several times-have always recommended to everyone. Food is still good! Service was horrible. Servers have gotten lazy and the quality of service has diminished exponentially. The care and attitude of servers when B&B opened no longer exists and has gone down overtime. Reasons for this review after my last visit: Dinner reservations for 6:15 Saturday night No waiter for 15 minutes after we sat Seemed annoyed that my guests had questions about menu and ingredients***Their first time at B&B Drinks took for ever...even Ice tea and sweetener Empty plates and glasses sat on table until I literally handed them to waiter***As you know large plates for great meat, but ran out of table room. Forgot a dessert and blamed us"

Much of the food was lovely, although the lamb sausage was nearly too tough to chew and everything was so highly salted it was clear why every table is provided a water bottle. This spot is likely a fabulous place to enjoy the beer garden, but as a dinner spot fell a bit flat."

I found the food excellent. Our group tried the sausage sampler, the filets, the roasted cauliflower, flat iron steak, ribs, and a few other things - left behind clean plates."

  • "This was my first time at Butcher & Boar. I made a reservation, but should have requested outdoor seating. Had to sit inside and really missed the ambience of the outside patio and even the beer garden. Food was fabulous and unusual. The beer, wine and liquor menu really can't be beat."

  • "We came on our honeymoon and left feeling really disappointed. The waiter messed up my husband's order and was unapologetic when he got the wrong thing. He later ordered a beer and, we clocked it, didn't receive his beer until fifteen minutes later. At that point he didn't even want it but the waiter just dropped it on the table and kept going. I understand that it's a busy place but when you're paying that much for a meal you expect a certain level of professionalism. Considering we came on a special, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, it was really disappointing to have a bad memory associated. However, the food WAS good. We greatly enjoyed the charcuterie and my lamb sausage was delicious. The service kind of overshadowed everything, though."

  • "This was my second time visiting The Butcher and the Boar, and it did not disappoint. The wood grilled oysters were unbelievable and the skillet corn bread was out of this world. The sausages and meat were just excellent. The beer list was full of local craft beers that were all superb. Next time I go to Minneapolis I will dine here again and bring as many friends as possible."

  • "We have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally went for our anniversary! I suggest getting a reservation long before you want to go if you don't want to eat in the middle of the night. We made ours 2 weeks prior. The food is absolutely amazing. Our waiter suggested splitting the long bone and getting some sides and it was the best decision! We still were only able to finish 3/4 of the longbone! I personally don't really like sausages so we didn't try those and can't review any of that. The only thing I found as a downside is that tables are very close together and not private at all and the noise level is a bit much. If you are looking for good food though this is the place! We will be back for sure!"

  • "The menu is innovative, creative and offers robust flavors. The seasoning and sauces are aggressive; we found the "build up" of heat to be overwhelming by the end of the meal. We couldn't finish the fries because of the heat. The turkey braunschweiger was creamy and flavorful but extremely salty; the flat bread was excellent. The Wedge Salad was one of the best I've had. I'd try again to see if the overseasoning is consistent across the menu. Pecan tart was enormous and rich; slight scorched aftertaste."

  • "Butcher and the Boar was among the most outstanding meals I have ever had in the Twin Cities. Our entrees included a double cut smoked pork chop, bacon wrapped beef tenderloin - cooked to perfection - and green chorizo with black beam mole and cumin creme fraiche - to die for. Everything was perfectly presented with a variety of sides to choose from. We had the corn bread and carmelized broccoli which were both excellent. It would be easy to find sides and a salad to make a great meal for non carnivores. The deconstructed s'mores with home made marshmallows and graham crisps were a perfect ending to it all. Oh, did I mention the wine pairing and bourbon flights? Best of all, we scored a table outside on the lovely patio."

  • "We heard a lot about this restaurant and decided to try it out for our wedding anniversary. We went around dinner time and the noise level in there was extremely loud. My husband and I had to shout at each other even though we were sitting across from each other. The people next to me were close enough that we could have been dining together. Trying to get up and to bathroom is like a maze because of how small the place is. The food was amazing and that's why people keep coming back otherwise ambiance wise go when it's not dinner time."

  • "My husband and I would go back every night if we could! We loved the decor and ambiance. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us recommendations based on what we said we liked and he was spot on. The food was AMAZING. (You have to try the pork chop!) We were impressed by the bourbon selection and had a few cocktails and a sampler as well. We left very full and very happy."

  • "The duck, sausages and steak were great. The 3 sides we ordered (cauliflower, brussel sprouts and dirty rice) were too salty to eat. The lobster grilled cheese was a disappointment. All bread, almost no lobster. We enjoyed the appetizer that had different pates very much."

  • "I've been to B&B several times, both inside and in the Garden. The last two times we experienced bad service and this round, the good was all overly seasoned. I ordered a skewer of tenderloin, prawn and links. It was tiny and there were only two very small pieces of prawn on there. The meats were distractingly seasoned for each of us. Also everything we ordered was spicy, but isn't say so in the descriptions in the menu. We don't mind spice, but may have chosen a different variety had we known. I do love the fried green tomatoes, cornbread and the brussel sprouts. Also, as we were leaving the valet sad "it's ONLY a Camry, about our car when talking about where to find it. B&B came off a little pretentious this round."

  • "Went with a group of 8 people and had our own room. Decor and ambiance were spectacular! Waitress and staff were very johnny on the spot. Very noisy however and very hard to hear each other across the table. Waitress had great recommendations. I split the smoked beef long rib, of which melted in your mouth, and had the sour cream & chive mashed on the side. Sampled the double cut pork chop, brussel sprouts and blackened cauliflower. We also ordered grilled oysters, smoked olives, cheese plate and sausage sampler. Great beer selection. Will definitely recommend and go back!! On average we spent $80 per person with tip and cocktails. We mosied over to the beer garden afterwards which was also spectacular. Great food & great night had by all."

  • "The best thing about Butcher and the Boar for us on our visit was the awesome service. It was our anniversary and I requested a booth - which they happily saved for us. Our server was fantastic - very friendly, helpful with the menu, but not overbearing in constantly checking back. The food was delicious - I did think that some things were overly greasy (had the brussel sprouts - flavor was amazing but they were drenched in oil.)"

  • "I took my Dad here who is from Texas. He loved the steak tenderloin. However the stuffed jalapeños were underdone and way too hot. The ambiance was a problem. WAY too loud to even have a conversation. We were sat at a table for 6 even though we were a party of 4 so that was odd. And we were right underneath a vent blowing cold air down my neck and on my food. If I go back I won't sit inside."
