  • "I celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary with another couple. The food was outstanding, and the atmosphere spectacular. Loved the table and the upholstered seats and it was set beautifully with high end tableware. Its a historic building that's been beautifully refurbished. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the history of the building. There are two huge gorgeous brass chandeliers that were taken from the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. Worth the trip to see them. We were celebrating and ordered lots of stuff, including the delicious Shell fish platter, so our bill was quite steep. We had a wonderful time, so it was all worth it. Expect to relax, and take your time. This is a really nice place and perfect for a special occasion."

  • "the menu at butcher and singer would please both the self-proclaimed foodie as well as the unsophisticated pallet who simply likes great food. you might not find foie gras paté on this old-school menu, but you will leave satiated and happy. the retro ambiance is great and our waiter was professional and warm without pretense."

  • "The strip steak was perfect, the stuff hash browns addictive. The Ceasar salad was pedestrian and the baked Alaska while a fun concoction wasn't really worthy of the rest of the meal. Service, as always here, was excellent. It's just a wonderful evocative space to eat"

  • "The steaks melt in your mouth. The swordfish was good too. And it's all about the potatoes! So delicious!"

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I ordered the aged porterhouse stake and I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks that I had ever had in my entire life. My wife could not stop raving about the filet Mignon she ordered and we both enjoyed the "Stuffed Home-fries" and the fried calamari was also some of the best that I have ever had as well. The food is pricy, but it is worth every single penny. The atmosphere was wonderful and we both felt as if we had been transported into an episode of Mad-Men. Our waitress was very helpful, friendly and we wanted for nothing. I cannot wait for our next visit!"

  • "Over-cooked shrimp cocktail (with only four shrimp, not five), overly bitter chopped salad (too much radicchio) and a single roll to go with supper that gave my jaws such a workout... For the price and rating on TripAdvisor, this dining event didn't match up to what I expected. Having enjoyed my local Capitol Girlle and NYY Steak House, B&S far underachieved. The steak was good, the sides were good but that's all it was... good. Nothing that made me smile and not up to what Philadelphia can offer. I'm glad we had much more enjoyable dining events on our trip to Philadelphia."

  • "Went here for a rare date night with my wife and the server went above and beyond to take care of us. We both had steak (delmonico and strip) and they were cooked perfectly. We couldn't decide on which sides and settled on two, waiter asked which the third choice was and brought it out to us so we wouldn't miss out. Later for dessert I chose the apple crumble (my wife wanted chocolate cake), the waiter heard her choice and gave us a slice to go. Made our night out very special. Thanks!"

  • "The delmonico was just amazing. I think that's the best I have ever had anywhere!! The rub was perfect. The portion size was good too (18 oz). We had the baked alaska as our dessert. A great dining experience."

  • "Went for a birthday dinner on a Thursday evening. Ordered a $60 seafood appetizer and told the waitress to hold off on the entree for a bit. Once we finished and they took our plates the steaks arrived within a minute. We looked at each other and said, really. Of course, no apology. Anyway, a good meal but complete appetizer, meal, dessert & coffee in an hour. I wanted a romantic dinner and got fast food!"

  • "My Anniversary dinner at Butcher and Singer was absolutely fantastic. I had the Filet Oscar and Lobster Tail entrée....AMAZING...and it looked so beautiful on the plate. The filet melted in my mouth like butter. I this even possible with beef?? Well it seemed so. The lobster tail was cooked perfect! The crab was great...and I'm from Maryland so I would say I am an expert in the crab department. We traveled to Philly for a concert. Now we will travel there for dinner. Thanks to the Chef and our Waitress. I wish I was better with names but our table was to the left of the restaurant, window seating, 5:30 reservation for a party of 4 going to the Beyoncé concert. THANK YOU SO MUCH."

  • "I found this location through Trip Advisor and immediately booked it because of all the pictures. It looks like an old Hollywood restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely do a nice date-night here. Please dress nice even though the website doesn't state it. I saw a woman come in with shorts and flip flops on. Was annoyed by it since I was all dressed up. The service was great and we were seated quickly since we had reservations. The food was very yummy too! I had the 8 oz filet, and it was sooooo tender! The mash potatoes as a side was great. To top off the meal, definitely had the huge chocolate cake."

  • "Butcher and Singer is my family's go-to restaurant for a special occasion. The food is always outstanding and the staff creates a real experience for their diners. They have the best Manhattan in the city (the trick is they use chocolate bitters which makes it unbelievably smooth), and their delmonico steak is the best steak I have ever had. The baked Alaska is a must try for dessert. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Usually awesome but terrible this last time. My medium rare filet came well done and horribly over salted. Fried oysters were banal and devoid of flavor."

  • "Went to Butcher and Singer with my in-laws on 06/21/14. We went all out on dinner and it had to be one of the best meals we have ever had. Service, food, drinks all outstanding!"

  • "This restaurant continues to provide great service and delicious food. I had the 21 day aged Porterhouse steak which was flavorful, tender, and cooked to perfection. The side of hashbrowns was memorable to say the least. Finished it off with the apple crumble which was to die for. You have to experience this place. Truly a gem in Philly."

  • "Lovely experience, server was a bit slow collecting orders, but friendly and attentive otherwise. Delmonico was a chewier and fattier than I've experienced in the past, cooking to medium-well may have helped some of that. Delicious Brussels sprouts and stuffed hash browns. Calamari for starter was satisfactory but a bit heavy on the batter. Shared a slice of chocolate cake which was nothing worth remembering. Two of us commented that it was similar to Pepperidge Farm. Would come back to try a non-steak dish, but overall nothing blew my hair back."

  • "Went here on Thursday for my birthday and a late Father's Day celebration too. The server was very friendly and patient with us. I asked for a dessert menu right off the bat in order to plan my attack. Four out of 5 of us had the Delmonico. It is simply the best steak in the city. Split the hash browns, creamed spinach and onion rings (special) all delicious. The carrot cake ( and I say cake, not slice), was very good too."

  • "We had a wonderful Father's day meal at Butcher & Singer! Our server, Brian, made this a memorable evening for all! He was courteous, attentive, professional and kind to me and my son and daughter. The food was delicious and served at a pace in which we could enjoy the evening and not feel rushed. Our compliments to the chef! Our steaks were cooked perfectly! My son and daughter loved the "mock-tinis"! My daughter has chosen Butcher & Singer to celebrate her 15th birthday. Thank you!"

  • "I've had great steak a lot of places and B&S was amoung the best. We had the Porterhouse for 2, the preparation was simple, which allowed the diner to truly experience what quality, dry aged meat tastes like. (It tastes delicious). And while the steak was great...the side dishes were even better. Two days later, I'm still thinking about the loaded hash brown, but it was the Brussels sprouts that stole the show. So good!"

  • "Usually excellent but off tonight. My girlfriends medium well filet came out way overcooked and almost inedible. I ordered a Delmonico with blackened seasoning. It was well prepared, but the chef must have forgotten the seasoning until after it was done as it came out with a quarter inch of seasoning just dumped on top. They did offer me a new steak but it was late. One bad experience after many good ones"

  • "My family and I were traveling to Philly to attend my graduation from Drexel and were looking for a nice place to go for dinner after. Butcher & Singer got really good reviews and was a close walk to our hotel so we went there on Friday night. The inside is super nice, it looked exactly like a classy steakhouse should with high ceilings, leather booths, and white tablecloths. Our server was Ed, and he was amazing. He was nice, friendly, knowledgeable and just an overall great server. The drinks were good, the steak (I had the filet) was cooked perfectly, and the sides were pretty good. There were four of us and all of our steaks were cooked just like we ordered them. A great experience, I would definitely come back."

  • "We celebrated our 5th Anniversary dinner there on Friday the 13th and during dinner the song, In a Sentimental Mood began to play which was the song i walked down the aisle to on our wedding day. It made dinner that much sweeter although the restaurant had no idea. This place continues to hold a special place in our hearts and bellies. My husband and I absolutely love coming to this restaurant because we always know that the food will be top notch along with the service! We have been coming to this restaurant for several years and will keep coming back. This place is AMAZING!"

  • "Expect a formal dining experience. Most men wore well-cut suit jackets/sportcoats, all ladies in semi-formal/formal wear. From seating to dessert, this was a class act. The only detractor to our experience was the noise level. With so many people in the room you can forget about being able to hear your table companions unless you are a loud speaker."

  • "I've dined at Butcher&Singer in my last two visits to Philly. It is conveniently located near Holt's cigar shop so I get into town, check-in to my hotel, grab an evening smoke, and then head over to Butcher&Singer. We always know what we want so we get quick service. Steaks are always properly cooked to desired temperature. This most recent visit our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, preparations, and meet temperatures. I highly recommend this restaurant and will return."

The service, food, ambiance, and the music wasnt loud or overbearing. I SOOO dislike loud restaurants! perfect:)"
