  • "We went to Butcher and Singer on our first visit to Philadelphia. It was my birthday and it was absolutely wonderful. Service and food were outstanding. It is expensive but worth every penny."

  • "My husband and I stumbled on Butcher & Singer on a recent trip to Philadelphia. The restaurant itself was lovely and the service was perfect - not overly attentive or hovering. Steak was cooked perfectly and the creamed spinach was delicious but the star of our meal was the stuffed hashed brown potato. We would definitely go back and will recommend to friends."

  • "but be careful with the side dishes.....large portions big enough to share...too large for one..stuff has browns large enough for 4....but all are very delicious.."

  • "Started with the some of the best Bluepoint Oysters ever, then steaks. I had the Strip and it was prepared to perfection. My wife enjoyed the Filet with Blue Cheese. We shared the generous servings of Green Beans with almonds and Onions and Mushrooms, both were delicious. For desert we shared the Baked Alaska, and it was as though we had not just had a large meal but were starved. In all, a perfectly prepared dinner with attentive and professional service."

  • "My first trip here. It was too dark, too loud & too pricey. The service, however, was very good. The food was good but extremely pricey,"

  • "I was expecting more of a sophisticated food selection as you see in most Starr restaurants or at least higher quality than what we encountered. I ordered the tomato salad with Roquefort cheese and a crab cake. My boyfriend ordered the caesar salad and the fried shrimp. All the items were just ok. The tomatoes were not in season so they were tough and not very tasty. The crab cake was very good in that it had large chunks of crab meat, little breading and was well seasoned, but if you're going to stick with 'Old Hollywood' cuisine items that are typically offered at a Red Lobster or a TGI Fridays for a fraction of the price then there has to be a clearly identifiable reason to charge such a premium."

  • "What a great spot in downtown Philadelphia. Walnut street hotspot. Terrific ambiance, good menu with some notable choices among the appetizers and entrées as well. Could b e the best NY strip I have ever been served."

  • "Service was outstanding, they carved our steaks (port house and ribeye) right before they came out so we could share.it was perfect. Also, best manhattan ever so smooth. It was a perfect eating experience.oh yeah best baked potato, not sure where they got them but huge...they are accompanied by sour cream, butter and fresh bacon. The bread came out piping hot with a great crust. Was too full for desert"

  • "my husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary - it was the best meal we had ever had out. Very pricey but definitely worth it! After reading numerous reviews on steakhouses in the Philadelphia area Butcher and Singer consistently received rave reviews so we decided to give it a try. From the moment we arrived we were very impressed - it was simply spectacular. Service was excellent, never felt rushed. While we were having our coffee, our waiter took our valet ticket so that our car would be waiting for us when we were ready to leave. Would definitely recommend Butcher and Singer to anyone looking for a top notch steakhouse in Philadelphia."

  • "Steak cooked perfectly. Great server. Nice ambience. Hash brown potatoes- HELLO! Very friendly place. Way too pricey, including the good wines, and please stop filling up my wine glass- i'm capable of doing that. Fill my water glass Spinach way too salty, aspargus too buttery, Oysters way too small. I'll go again- but only with a gift card"

  • "Back again for our anniversary this past weekend. As always, this restaurant is vibrant, romantic and has great food. My wife enjoys the ambiance that B & S offers. The wait staff combo of Tom and Donovan were extremely attentive and friendly. Surf and turf was well prepared and the drinks were expertly made. Definitely a spot for a special occasion. It is our favorite center city restaurant."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, excellent food and the entire staff is wonderful. Loved the 40's vibe and decor. Try the Bee's Knees cocktail... its delicious! The stuffed hash brown is worth its weight in gold."

  • "We had an amazing time at Butcher & Singer. We had the escargots to start, which was fantastic. The garlic butter that drips out of the shell is the real treat, and it's nice to see it served in the shell. We had the filet and Delmonico steaks. Both were cooked exactly to our desired temperature and the flavoring was phenomenal. The filet was a little salty, but it was something I enjoyed. The baked potato was split and it came with all of the fixins. We had the NY Style cheesecake for dessert (checked the dessert section before ordering our meals). All of our food was top notch and our service was great - very polite and suggested the delmonico which did not disappoint."

  • "This is a wonderful old bank building that has been transformed into a warm, dark steakhouse with impeccable service and truly outstanding food. My son is moving into the Rittenhouse Square area and we decided to explore the neighborhood, starting with a special dinner here. We could not have chosen a better introduction to the area. It was a special meal in a very special place."

  • "My partner and I have dined at some of the most notable restaurants in the States and Europe and both of us agreed that Butcher & Singer is "up there" with fine-dining experiences. We started out with oysters from the west coast which were the best that we ever experienced--absolutely perfect. We then had the tuna sashimi and fried oysters. We've had better fried oysters at the Saloon but the presentation was unique and beautiful. The tuna sashimi was another blue-ribbon winner--absolutely memorable and delicious. My partner had the NY strip and I ordered the lamb chops but I got a veal chop instead. No matter--the appetizers made us want more and the thought of correcting the error deterred us."

  • "First and foremost the service was excellent. Tom our waiter was the best ever. Tom overheard us mention a birthday and brought out a birthday treat. What a surprise! Apps were good. The salads outstanding, especially the Crab and Louie. Beef was excellent. The hash brown potato was out of this world. You must order this if you go. Oh, the Butcher Manhattan was to die for! Overall excellent but pricey."

  • "Made a reservation two months in advance, yet a simple seating request was basically ignored. We had a party of six and five ordered steaks. The consensus was that the steaks were fair at best relative to other steakhouses at this price point. I had the lamb chops and they were fatty-just okay. Ambience is romantic. The space is beautiful, but two of the six people at our table had a view of the wall. The wait staff was great and very attentive. We were disappointed primarily because of the food and won't go back."

  • "We had a delightful dinner March 8 at Butcher $ Singer The meal was very traditional We shared one of the best french noon soups as an appetizer the superb filets done medium rare to perfection, creamed spinach and hash browns. The ambiance is great - dark wood walls, tables not too close together. Our server Janelle was extremely attentive but the piece de restance was the wine. We ordered a middle of the road $90 cabernet. It was taking some time to arrive and all of a sudden the sommelier I think his name was Michael appeared and informed us our choice was no longer in the cellar Instead he presented us with two choices of wine that were $180 a bottle to choose from at the price of the $90 bottle We picked the Tulocay. What a treat!"

  • "This was my first time dining at Butcher & Singer and I cannot wait for another "special occasion" so I can go again. The food was phenomenal, from the appetizers to dessert. Our server was very knowledgeable and professional, yet friendly and fun. The atmosphere is romantic. Definitely on my list of favorites. We have recommended many of our friends to dine here."

  • "I called ahead and had champagne and their seafood platter pre-ordered, which was on the table as requested. The staff treated me like gold when I arrived. The food was delicious. The seafood was fresh, the steak was perfection. We had a beautiful table, very romantic. It was a special evening with somebody I had not seen in a while and their staff made it extra special. He and I both had a wonderful experience and I hope to make it a regular thing when I get to Philly."

  • "Everything and everyone was terrific. We forgot our tickets for the show in the car. We told our waitress and she sent the valet to go get them. The valet guys were really great too. Make sure you have the Butcher 7 Singer signature Manhattan....mmmm soooooooooo good, hints of chocolate and maple syrup. The hash browns were as good as everyone said. We will be back :)"

  • "Butcher and Singer continues to be the leader in Philadelphia for a fantastic experience. I can no longer count how many times we have dined here with groups, with out of town friends, with each other. Its so nice to be able to fully rely on a perfect dining experience at Butcher and Singer. The steak will always be amazing... the class of the restaurant is top tier. We just love to love this place and love to come here as often as we are able. I love to get here 40 minutes early and have a cocktail at their very fine bar. Then spend a few hours having the best steaks money can buy."

All aspects of the evening were superlative....beautiful ambiance, attentive waitstaff, extraordinary food....prepared expertly. This is the go to restaurant for a guaranteed great time."

  • "Arrived early and specifically requested a booth. Not only didn't that happen but when we were seated we were placed at the worst table in the room despite not only other (better) tables being available but two booths open as well. If I wanted to see the kitchen door swing open 300 times I would have asked for our table (though my request would have likely been ignored!) Service was painfully slow; noise level was painfully loud. Wine markups were absolutely, positively ridiculous. Greater than 3X in some cases! Gruet champagne for $54 and I know for a fact that it is avaialble in PA State Stores for $16.99 (and this is retail - not what Starr pays). Bergstrom (single vineyard) Pinot at $165. Available at retail in the high $40's."

  • "I've been here a few times now and each time I am impressed by the big room ambiance, fast and friendly service and overall experience. I cannot rank it as the best steak, however. The first time I was here my filet was perfect, but most recently I found my NY Strip to be a bit too fatty and slightly undercooked. The great salad, soup and sides made up for this minor flaw, but for this price I gave the food a 4/5 and the overall experience a 5/5. There are many great steakhouses in this area, so next time I may try one of the others purely on steak quality, but I still think this place is a great experience overall if you can handle the premium price."

  • "I brought my husband here for this 40th birthday. We celebrated his birthday here last year and loved it so much that we decided to go back. I had originally requested seating for two, but needed to change same as another couple was joining us. The restaurant was very accomadating and even gave us a booth as I had requested private seating. The food was excellent from the appetizers to the dessert, which they wrote "Happy Birthday" in chocolate and provided a candle. I was very pleased because I had written in the special instructions section that it was his birthday, but did not think anyone would pay attention"
