  • "The walk through the gardens to the restaurant was awesome. I found the dining room very quaint just as I had imagined. Not only was the special dinner menu delicious but the combination of flavours was intriguing. The chef even came out to chat with patrons. I loved the wine pairings too and they were offered at a very reasonable price. The service was fantastic. Our server knew a lot about the wines served and really made the dinner memorable. This restaurant is worth the trip!"

  • "As a Celiac, I received the same excellent display, and delicious food as my non-Celiac dining partner.. My server was very knowledgable, and gave excellent service- adjusting my tea flavour preference, and explaining the gluten free protocol to my satisfaction: As a 'profound Celiac', my questions are exacting: they were handled efficiently, with calm ease, and obvious understanding of this serious necessity. The occasion was my belated birthday. How marvelous to have the Butchart Treatment; beautiful views from every antique window, enveloped with flowers and orchids, white linens, excellent service and delicious and SAFE gluten-free Tea, served on the tiered platter, just as all the guests are. It was a lovely day. Thank you so much"

  • "This was the fourth afternoon tea we have enjoyed at Butchart Gardens. We were seated in the sun porch area for the first time and really enjoyed the warmth and beautiful flowers on display. My tastes favor the savory items and this tea matches my taste with its selections. I particularly liked the salmon and chicken curry selections. We also treated ourselves to the wine flight and loved all three, especially the cider. The service was, as usual impeccable. Whenever our travels bring us to this area we will always visit the gardens and always take tea in this lovely venue."

  • "We were fortunate to attend the five course, five chef evening. Our server explained each course to us, and the head chef stopped by to see what we thought of the meal. Two of us chose to accompany our meal with the recommended wine pairings which were excellent."

  • "An elderly friend and I went for the Afternoon Tea. The tea-room was bright with good views of the gardens. The tables were a bit close together, but we were there during a quite time so it was easy to have a conversation. The food was very tasty and there was a good selection, although I thought there was too much pastry. The hint of ginger flavour in the scone was absolutely wonderful, along with the rose-hip jelly. Being English, I was a bit disappointed with the cream for the scones as it wasn't Devon cream. The service was very friendly and efficient, but unobtrusive."

  • "Excellent food quality and service despite a totally full restaraunt. Meal was hot and fresh as appropriate in the true English tradition."

  • "Great restaurant, elegant yet casual decor, serving high tea this time of year. After enjoying a leisurely walk through the gardens, topping off our experience here by enjoying their high tea. Meal started with a tea selection of your choice, many to choose from. Then the main course served on a tiered stand, beginning a several hot selections, then several finger sandwiches, and finally several sweets to finish. Food was very good, very tasty, and very filling. A great way to finish our experience at the gardens. Have eaen at this restaurant many times. Always great food, great service, and great ambience as you take in the garden views. Definitely will be back next visit to Vancouver Island."

  • "Wonderful scenery, peaceful atmosphere. Loved the high tea at the dining room. I'd never experienced high tea before and wanted to take my boyfriend there for this birthday. It was wonderful! The tea was very nice and the sandwiches, hot items and desserts were phenomenal. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are on a visit to Butchart Gardens."

  • "At the entrance to the "Gardens" the nice young man informed us that entry fee for the four adults would be $100+. Seemed a little high, but then I should have done a better job onmy "due diligence". The dinner was quite good and the steaks and salmon were enjoyed by all (not up to Costco quality, but good nevertheless). Our service was reasonable however other tables garnered the bulk of our servers attention (I knew I should have worn a tie). A nice evening but $400+ was a bit pricey in my opinion."

  • "The Butchart Gardens Restaurant has been a favourite dining place for some years. It is always very good to excellent whenever I am there. The ambience is exceptional because the restaurant is in the beautiful old Butchart home in one of the world's most stunning gardens. I buy an annual pass every year. I am blessed by this amazing place on my "doorstep"."

  • "Though we ended up booking late we were able to get a New Year's dinner booking (5:30, but better than nothing!) We went skating at the gardens first, walked through the displays and arrived for dinner. The dining room was beautifully decorated and quite busy. The view of the illuminated gardens was outstanding. Service was good, food very good and surroundings quiet (as things got busier, it certainly was noisier). At no time did we feel rushed, there was time between courses to visit and people watch. We had appetizers, main meal and tea, with cocktails to begin, and were done in about 100 minutes without feeling pushed. When we asked for the bill it came promptly and was clearly explained. A very nice experience."

  • "Cowichan Valley Chicken was dry and over cooked. The "stuffing" was burnt & hard, and the greens (kale?) was still tough/hard and could not chew. (Yes I have my own teeth) The rake of Lamb was awesome."

  • "This was our third time dining at the Butchart Gardens dining room. The first time we had dinner and the second time was to enjoy the afternoon tea. Both were wonderful. This 3rd visit did not disappoint. We had a wonderful dinner after walking around and seeing all of the beautiful Christmas lights. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice and romantic."

  • "While visiting the Christmas lights, this charming home is aglow with warmth that welcomes visiters with live piano and amazing cuisine. The service was wonderful. Be sure to make a reservation. Although they were packed, they allowed us to come back out of the cold to enjoy cream brûlée and caramel bread pudding at the end of our visit. This restaurant was an excellent addition to our Butchart Christmas Lights experience."

  • "My wife went to Butchart Gardens for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a window seat where we could look out at the Christmas lights. Our server was Danielle was great. She checked on us through out the meal .For starters we were served bread and butter. A weakness of mine is bread and the butter that was served with it, made feel like I was in heaven. I had salmon which melted in my mouth. My wife had 6 oz sirloin which was cooked to her taste. We liked the live piano music while we were eating. It was a great romantic evening."

  • "What a hidden gem! We had no idea that the chef at the Dining Room was so accomplished and exceptional as well as the service (Dominique) so professional, warm, playful and experienced. The food was delicious, the service was fun, and the ambiance put us in a wonderful Christmas holiday spirit. Now we look forward to bringing our family and friends and sharing this gem with the ones we love! Thank you for a wonderful evening! 10 out of 10!"

  • "We reserved the dining room after touring the magical holiday lighting displays. The displays were beautiful and spectacular against the dark night sky. Highly recommend. It was lightly raining and the gardens provided umbrellas in numerous locations. Very thoughtful. The dining room was charming. The service excellent and the food delicious. The only disappointment was I booked our dining reservation well over a month ago; and requested a table with a view of the lights. I spoke with the host the day of our reservation to confirm and I was assured we would have a good table. Our table was against the window but not a window that looked out on the lighting displays….."

  • "The dinning at Butcharts was great! The food was excellently prepared and good presentation. They offered local options with opportunity for vegetarians to also have a great meal. The booking was easy. The service was excellent. The French Onion soup was too hot but other than that Great. The pacing of the courses were fantastic allowing time to really visit and enjoy the ambiance."

  • "I was with a group of friends for a special Christmas treat of dinner & lights at the Gardens. It was a real treat for all of us as the dinner was amazing and the lights from the dining room were magical. Both the service and the food were exceptional. Thank you for a great evening."

  • "After walking around the garden to see the Christmas lights the warmth and comfort of the Dining Room was most welcome. We enjoyed the green herb salad and my all time favorite beer was available (Herman's Dark Lager.) My bride to be delighted in the Tenderloin steak and assorted vegetables, whilst I tackled the Pork Shoulder with a good assortment of vegetables. The kohl rabbi was woody and the chef should have caught that. We are both devoted to the Paleolithic Diet and our meal was perfect from that viewpoint. So a lovely experience to round out a magical evening. Thanks to our waiter for his consideration of our strange diet"
