I love the food here but I was
disappointed by the perfunctory service during my second visit. The wait staff was very attentive during our first visit but this last time it decidedly less so. I might has well have been eating in a diner. I hope this was an off night and the service doesn't continue to slide as this restaurant takes odd."

Bustan's is a good addition to the
neighborhood, but has several characteristics preventing a top recommendation: Noisy, to the point of having to yell to be heard 3-4 feet away across small tables, jammed next to each other. Also, inconsistent food quality: One dish was excellent, while the other was extremely poor."

The noise level was beyond belief,
you couldn't even hear or talk to the person right next to you. I could have forgiven that, but the food was awful (only 1 of the 4 entrees between us was even edible). The service was not much better, a "superior" waiter who recited a list of his favorite dishes from the menu. Maybe he was instructed to do this but it was most annoying. It was a fight to get a second glass of water and the bread never appeared. All in all, a disaster. I'd never eat there again."

Mediterranean food. The waiter was helpful, enthusiastic, but not intrusive. We will return."

The diner at Bustan was above and
beyond what we have expected. It was our first time and we were a group of 8 ages 17 to 84. Everyone loved the food. The humus bowls are delicious, the falafel is very well done crispy and no extra oil perfectly seasoned. The salmon was placed on sweet potatos latke with a grilled fennel on the side and was one of the best i ever had. The flat breads are on thin crust - we tried the margarita one that was delicious. Desserts were very good . my favorite one was the chocolate cake with the espresso ice cream. The silan was very good as well. excellent food. The service was attentive, efficient, accommodating and very pleasant. will definitely go again."

I was amazed by this restaurant...
Excellent food (the lamb was fantastic) , very nice location and the fact that it was opened so late made me really want to go back. I strong recommend it!"
Dined on 7/12/2014
Wish they were a bit more amenable
to substitutions etc...caused me to have to order a less "interesting" meal than I initially wanted to order...but overall the food was good (everyone else's meal was great, mine was almost TOO simple/boring)-also wish they had skim milk for coffee because their coffee is REALLY delicious but I really like skim milk in my coffee....!"

Good food--great Dorado special
the night I went--vibe--a bit on the loud side so not for a tete a tete-- and service--no seating until all guests arrive, which I understand but don't like. Overall, the neighborhood is thrilled to welcome Bustan!"

Expensive but excellent
Mediterranean food: delicious flatbreads, hummus, lamb."

We've been meaning to try this for
a while as it's close to home. It was wonderful! The food was great and the garden in the back is adorable! The waiter had wonderful descriptions of the menu and seemed very happy to be working there. We will definitely go back."

Hummus with mushrooms was well
seasoned and creamy. Kale/Beet salad was fresh with seared Halloumi cheese and herbs. Side of sauteed kale and feta had a delicious broth, but was slightly salty. Tables are very close together. Overall great place with fresh, delicious food."

Went with a group of 6, so we
tried a lot of different items on the menu. Mostly everything was great - best hummus ever. Loved the octopus, salmon tartare, cauliflower, salads, etc. The waiter wasn't very good- not much attention, but the rest of the wait staff was excellent. Just know that it is a very noisy atmosphere- you have to lean in to hear the person next to you. We will go again soon, but try to sit in the outdoor space, where there isn't noise bouncing off the walls."

Booked the same day and were
beautifully greeted and shown to a nice table straight away eventh restaurant was ver busy. The food was light and delicious and a clever play on traditional Israeli food but with a twist. Fresh ingredients and healthy.even though we ate a lot - did not feel heavy and comfortable. Would definetly visit again."

This goes on my list of top finds.
The food is delicious with many outstanding small plates for sharing. The heirloom cauliflower is fabulous as are the meza plates and the various flatbreads. The staff is solicitous without hovering. They were very caring in working to get their AC right for my friend who is perpetually cold. The decor is beautifully appointed and they have a very nice garden for outdoor dining. I think a group of us can keep returning to sample new things for quite a while without running out of yummy options."

The best Hummus I have ever
enjoyed without a doubt. The recipe is the Chef's secret and he's not letting it go. All the vegetable dishes are absolutely the best. Tandori Chicken a bit over done but enjoyable. If you find your self in the upper west side of New York, Busan is a must. Garden seating is very desirable, so when making reservations make sure you make your desires known and get the name of who you spoke with. Communications sometimes is left wanting. Overall, Busan is an experience you will not soon forget."

There are only a handful of truly
professionally executed restaurants on the Westside and Bustan needs to be included on that list. A uniques mideast menu expertly conceived and prepared combined with attentive. experienced service. It's busy even in it's early days and deservedly so."

I knew I was going to have a
fabulous meal... it's easy, since Chef Efi Naon never (ever) misses. The food is very fresh and tastefully seasoned, and the good sized dishes are also great for sharing. don't think of missing on the awesome desserts! if you're looking to truly enjoy your food and company, Bustan delivers just that - every dish is inspected carefully by the restaurant's chef, great wines selection and attentive staff. enjoy Bustan!"
Dined on 6/19/2014
Bustan is a wonderful new addition
to the limited array of restaurants available on the upper west side. every course is excellently prepared and flavored. Best of all - get the dessert with shaved halvah (can't remember the name and desserts are not listed on their website at this time.)"

My friend and I came for brunch.
They seated us right away. The food was absolutely delicious. There were too many things on the menu that we wanted to eat, so we decided that we will just have to come back to try more things!"

Excellent Mediterranean food,

I've been to Bustan several times,
find the menu to my liking and the food generally good. They probably would score points if they were a little more flexible with substitutions. My friend wanted to substitute a potato for the sausage that came with her chicken and that was refused. Seems like an inexpensive way to make a customer happy.. Bad judgment."

Welcomed change from Hey Mambo!
Food is eclectic and very good. The mushroom flatbread is delicious as is the sizzling shrimp and crab in phyllo. Service was good, seems like server has too many tables to wait on so we had to wait a bit for drinks and to order but food came out right away; perhaps too quickly. The place was noisy but hopping! Chef is Israeli and I believe won top chef Israel and it shows.....great new addition to the neighborhood."

Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine. Somewhat disorganized but friendly service. A real addition to the Upper West Side."

Ordered the lamb terracota, which
bakes in a dish with a bread covering. Dough was raw, and so was the lamb (it was cold, red and mushy, and a long way from medium rare). Server came and said she would take care of it. "Taking care of it" meant putting our undercooked dish back in the oven and re-serving it to us. Huge turnoff-totally unappealling as some of what was re-served we had already cut open the first time it was served. Further, it was now burned to a crisp. Server was then defensive, and had a hard time understanding why it was unacceptable to reheat and re-serve the same dish. Manager kept explaining why it was now burned, but seemed unbothered that the kitchen messed up the same dish twice. "

Due to some miscommunication our
group showed up 30 minutes late for our reservation. The hostess (rightfully) seemed annoyed, but the chef still sent our table complimentary mezze selection which was delicious and much appreciated. Everyone in our group of 6 enjoyed the delicious bread, and everyone seemed happy with their meals, with the lamb terracotta being the crowd favorite. The restaurant has a great ambiance and innovative decor. Definitely a must in the UWS!"

Great food; terrible waiter. Had
to ask for water refills, waited long for the first drink, brought out an item we didn't order and insisted on trying to make us keep it! Once we forced him to take it back, he didn't return even once (even thought we were there a good 45 minutes after). Didn't ask about how the food was, nor if we cared for dessert or coffee. Horrible attitude. Won't last in the neighborhood if this is how they treat guests. Kudos to the chef, though!"

We were with a group of 6 and we
all enjoyed our meal tremendously!"

Try their lamb specials. The
service was really good. "

Over all excellent. A little
noisier than we like, but tolerable. Great menu "
Dined on 5/22/2014
Reservations a must; went twice
and had to wait even with a reservation (5-10 min) while others were there for up to an hour. Food was excellent, with warm, fresh-from-the-oven bread served gratis with orders of hummus. The trio of mezze were excellent, the falafel were crisp without being oily, and the hummus bowls were filling and a good value. Green shakshuka was the failure of the meal(s)--overdone eggs and overly oily. Definitely sit outside if you can; the inside gets incredbly loud."

I have eaten at Bustan 3x since it
opened a few months ago. The food is consistently delicious. It's great for groups or dates. Service always good as well. My biggest issue with this restaurant is the temperature control and lack their of. In the winter it is FREEZING inside. I also did not know I needed to specifically request a regular table for a party of 6. I do not recommend sitting at the table by the door. not comfortable. Overall, Great addition to the neighborhood."
Dined on 5/17/2014
Everything we ordered was
delicious. The squid, the sizzling shrimp, the beet salad, the branzino-all above expectations. The waitress was extremely attentive and informative. It was raining the night we went but I am so excited to go back and sit in the outdoor garden! Great new Mediterranean addition to the upper west side!"

had a great time , best bread in
new york city , best humus in nyc , best chopped salad in nyc , i guess its the best israeli restaurant in nyc . sommilier was helpful , easy to find tasty vegetarian options ( a challenge of its own in UWS ) . will be back , they get busy at around 7 so i would recommend to try and book little earlier. "

After my third visit, sitting
twice inside and once outside,I believe I can finally give an objective review! The food was great! I loved every dish and I had about 30 by now. I think the flatbreads are a great addition to the extraordinary humus platters. All the main appetizers and main courses I had were exceptional! The wine list is OK too, although I'd have loved seeing more Israeli wines on the menu and some by the glass!"

birthday party of 6. food was
great. Would definitely come back."
Dined on 5/13/2014
We have been to Bustan a few times
and have really enjoyed the food. It is a welcome refreshing take on Mediterranean food in the neighborhood. However, we can't help but put out there that it is in need of more experienced restaurant staff. This past visit we were 6 and 2 friends stopped by and wanted to join us. The hostess came over and told us we couldn't have the empty table next to our table, when there were several open tables for 2 around the dinning room. If someone had come and sat down in the time we were there I would have perfectly understood. But my friends were made to stand and the table never was filled nor the others around the room. What was the point, Hostesses need to be flexible and accommodating to be successful."

From the roasted cauliflower
sitting on a pool of tahini and pine nuts, to the beet salad with a surprise of crunchy pomegranate seeds underneath, to the bread basket full of cheese twists and carrot muffins, every item that we ordered was delicious!"
Dined on 5/11/2014
Delicious middle eastern food in a
beautiful space, with friendly and extremely accommodating staff. "
Dined on 5/10/2014
Bustan was delicious! My boyfriend
and I enjoyed the hummus and eggplant dips as appetizers and then I had the Moroccan halibut and he had the special chicken salad. Both dishes were amazing and hefty in size. The drinks were really good too. The servers came a bit too soon and a bit too much at the beginning and our mains came out at different times which was unfortunate. All in all though, very nice."
