Been kinda obsessed with izakaya the past coupla years, and this is definitely a gem. We must have ordered 15 plates, and all were great. Not everybody loved the calamari, but other than that, everything was lovely. The new executive chef, Isamu Kanai, even came out to say hi. Even even had us play "guess that fish" with a special nigiri sushi he created. Overall, an outstanding meal and a great time.

Was expecting somewhat traditional Japanese food, while the food was good, especially the Sashimi. The soup was different than what I'm accustomed to eating, didn't have that Japanese flair but I guess it's nouveau Japanese cuisine. Service was excellent from all of the wait staff. It's a very casual restaurant, next time will go more casual. I would not return for the food, not because it's bad but because it doesn't taste like the traditional Japanese food I'm accustomed to. My friend is Japanese from Japan and she kept saying this is so different and so unusual.

I came in to Bushido expecting good food and good service and walked out with my expectations exceeded. The staff was friendly, helpful, and definitely personable; the food was fresh, heartwarming and literally (I kid you not) melt-in-your-mouth savory. The beef tongue skewers were unexpectedly creamy with a mélange of lovely textures and flavors, and the miso cod was simply fermented bean goodness in every bite. And on Sunday night it had the ambiance and noise level of an uptown, invite-only lounge. I'm definitely coming back.

We had reservations for 7 pm right when happy hour ends and arrived about 6:54 pm. The host welcomed us and offered the happy hour specials. We thought that was really generous and later, our server gave us hot sake on the house. We had a google offer that we informed them of at the beginning and were very happy with the overall hospitality. The sashimi sampler from the dinner menu was very fresh and the California roll off the happy hour menu was a bit less fresh, but still good. I would not recommend the fried calamari or mayonaise dressing as it's edible, but tasteless. I would dine here again. On a side note, I did take a quick glance over at the bar and there was a decent selection of spirits.

Overall really good food. I went there looking for sashimi and got it. Great sashimi. Only thing was it was hard to determine how much food I was being served because no quantities were listed on the menu. We ended up adding to our initial order and wishing we had ordered the largest sashimi option insted.

Excellent and interesting dishes, and a very accommodating staff. We had a one-year-old with us and the chef made up a simple rice and salmon dish for him, which he gobbled up--as well as some of our tasty edamame humus and okonomyaki. The menu varies, so don't necessarily go by the menu on the restaurant's web site.

Bushido is a traditional Japanese Izakaya- a style of Japanese restaurant that''s a great (and rare) alternative to our sea of sushi and teppanyaki bars. They have friendly, helpful servers, a good selection of higher grade sakes and an interesting assortment of small bites, the pork belly-lettuce cups are to die for.

Owner Steve was personable and helpful. Prices are a slightly higher than you would expect for an Izakaya, but has interesting mix of menu items. Pork belly lettuce cups were flavorful but not as tender as one would expect with all the fat. The Okonomiyaki was very tasty, not typical pancake texture but closer to crab cakes. The fried mochi and cheese was like a fancy version of fried mozzarella sticks - good but definitely not good for you.

This was our second visit. We eat primarily vegetarian with some fish. There are quite a few small plate choices for vegetarians and prices for the vegetarian dishes are good value. All the dishes were tastefully presented, quality was good to excellent, and servers were attentive without being always in your face. The agedashi tofu and warm soba noodles with vegetable were the best we have had anywhere. The hamachi sashimi special appetizer was delicious, but a bit pricey. We will definitely return.

I lived in Japan for 10 years and would consider myself a bit of a food snob when it comes to Japanese food. BUSHDO is without a doubt one of the best Japanese restaurants in the bay area. Very sensitive and wonderful traditional Japanese dishes served with a modern flair yet not overdone fusion style. It is very similar to a great restaurant serving Japanese food in Japan. Beautiful interior with modern Japanese motifs showing off a "square" theme. There is a full bar and a great selection of real Japanese SAKE. Several choices of premium SAKE to choose from. And best of all BUSHIDO is totally reasonably priced. It is gourmet Japanese cuisine without the snobby prices. Great deserts with a seasonal touch.

This was our second visit. Having really enjoyed our first experience, this time was disappointing. Server had no suggestions or recommendations and we ended up ordering way too much food (some dishes are very small, other are large portions, so it is all guess work without help from the waitperson). Miso black cod was still very enjoyable (but it is a small portion of fish given the price), but the california crab bake tasted mostly like mayonaise on top of rice - very little crab or avocado. Shabu shabu consisted of balls of thin beef strips all stuck together with a little cabbage in broth - not very enjoyable. We liked everything we had the first time, but not very much this time, so apparently a lot depends on what you order.

Despite a confusing menu and (unclear whether dishes were "tapas" sized or full portions ...which led us to order too much) the food was excellent. We particularly liked the Gyoza appetizer, Onomokiyaki (vegetable pancake) and Miso Black Cod. Presentation of the dishes was very artistic and the portions of Hamachi and Salmon sashimi were generous and very fresh,
