Totally loved the okonomiyaki - we
chose one of their specials, crab with leeks. Don't expect your usual izakaya here, they actually close early but have a great sake and whisky selection"

Stellar food and cheap beer!
Excellent food. We really enjoyed the sushi, but the pork belly sliders were amazing. The soft bread reminded of Peking duck, but the fried squid sticks were also excellent."

The drinks and food here were
awesome. The sashimi was super fresh, the rolls and chicken karaage just right, and the braised short rib was tender and yummy. We did not enjoy was the calamari because the breading was thick and greasy. The service was not great, though. It took too long for our order to be taken and it was about 30 minutes before even drinks came out. One person asked for a diet Coke 3 times. The waitress also didn't bring out all the dishes we ordered. When she asked if she could bring the check we reminded her we had ordered 2 more dishes which never arrived. The final kicker was they tacked on an 18% service charge even though we only had 5 people. I would go back for the food, but not if I'm in a hurry."

I enjoyed the bento box, the
albacore sashimi was pillowy to bite into and the grilled miso glazed cod was terrific, as well. You get a complimentary roll with 2 bento box orders, nice touch. Sweet potato chips with edamame hummus and gyoza were a nice way to start. Well crafted, simple menu. Really fresh! They compted a nice dessert as we posted our friend's bday in the reservation. Awesome!"

I thought the food here was good,
but the service was quite mediocre. I absolutely would not recommend it. If you're looking for Japanese tapas you're better of going to Gochi."

Interesting place. Will
characterize as fusion. Good service overall and will repeat."

We returned to try a noodle dish
and had the house ramen with an egg. It was excellent. That and a roll (we chose the spicy scallop) were ample for the two of us. The Wed sake special (half price) enticed us to try a glass, which was good. There were several large groups this time, making it a very noisy spot, but they were all having fun, so it's nothing to complain about. Just know that it's not a romantic retreat."

Went here with my boyfriend on a
Saturday night- wanted to try something new. Our table was ready when we arrived. We got the 3 mushroom fried rice (SO GOOD- great left overs too), Zen roll, crab and leek okonomiyaki special, and agedashi tofu. I wish there was mushroom sauce with the tofu, it only had fish flakes and green onions. We got the Bushido Spirit cocktail- excellent! A perfect mix between a Manhattan and an old fashioned. The service took a little longer than we'd have liked but the staff was friendly. All the food was excellent! Definitely coming back"

If you are looking for excellent
braised meats, veggies Japanese style, this is a great place. They have specials on food and drinks before 7 pm during the week-a great buy. Check it out."
Dined on 4/4/2014
The sushi & sashimi were fresh. We
had the sukiyaki and iron pot udon, both were the best we have had in a long time. Our was was very soft spoken and pleasant. Drinks were prepared quickly and we were not rushed to order."
Dined on 4/5/2014
Bushido has tasty izakaya food.
Staff recommended 2-3 plates per person to share. Standouts were the crispy sesame wings (finger-licking good!) and the ultra tender porkbelly with egg. The crab special okonomiyaki was also delicious. However, the yakitori skewers and sushi (small rolls and the rainbow roll) were underwhelming. Food came out quickly and servers were attentive and friendly. Ambiance was casual but on the trendier side and there is table and bar seating and of course, mood lighting. Most of the tables seemed to be for 2-4 people so I'm not sure if its the best for large parties. Tables have a decent amount of space between them and we were able to enjoy our conversation without shouting at each other across the table."

Had the house special Tonkatsu
Ramen.... Great flavor broth & texture of the noodles are about right. The additional Chashu was tender, delicious, and flavorful. We got a few rolls that were mediocre, nothing exciting to mention about them. Colleagues got the bento boxes which as I have mentioned in a previous review are plentiful with portions sizes Service good like before. I must also note that the times I have come here were on the company dime so I personally wouldn't have picked this place but the location is good and food is getting there."

This is my 'go to' spot for lunch.
Taking friends or clients-- everyone has an excellent dining experience. The fish is sustainable and super fresh. Can't go wrong. The Bento box is an excellent deal. Plus if 2 order, you get a free roll. Yum."

A couple of great things to
mention about this place: -Great location on Castro street -Hearty portions The "Hearty Portions" comment is debatable. Although they are somewhat generous with their portions there price is ridiculously high for an almost average Japanese restaurant. We got a variety of things on their menu and wasn't really satisfied with any of the taste or flavors of any of the dishes. The 3-Mushroom rice appetizer was so bland and the grilled chicken thigh skewers were more burnt than grilled. I hope not all 1k point restaurants are not all like this."
Dined on 2/20/2014
The menu is pan-Asian with an
ample amount of sushi and rolls. We stuck mostly with the sushi, which was very good, and added a little variety with a delicious crab pancake (one of the specials). The waiter was very helpful in making sure we didn't order too much food. The sake was good too. We will return to try more of the menu (the noodle dishes look very interesting)."
Dined on 2/5/2014
Very tasty specials with crab were
available this time. Loved the crab and leak okonomyaki. Also the Uni was very fresh. It's also nice that some of the happy hour drink specials are available all evening. I especially appreciate that the chef is following the sustainable fish guidelines from Monterey Aquarium when possible."

The exec chef, Ishamu ?), was very
friendly and helpful. He asked what we liked and gave us recommendations. We had 2 dishes that I especially liked. He prepared the okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes) for us and substituted some dungeness crab after our conversation about liking local fresh food. He also recommended some incredible Hawaiian Ahi sushi. Ishamu came back several times to check on us and to just continue visiting about our common interest, food!!! Our third time here and one of our favorites."

Food was great but the service
could be better. Had to flag down server to order cocktails and drinks. It's a popular place and think it's a little understaffed. Our tip reflected on the service that was given."
Dined on 1/29/2014
Great food, I liked the vegetarian
options, and delicious food. Service was slightly chaotic, as several servers came to the table at different points and we didn't know who was really taking care of us. Took awhile to get our wine. Not attentive throughout the meal; but were very quick on some things; so it was mixed service. But the food was great and ambience nice. Great happy hour deals 5-7pm."
Dined on 1/21/2014
The Japanese food was very good
and in my experience unique. Four of us dined and shared the appetizers and most of the entrees. All were good. As my ratings indicate, the service was fair (the restaurant was very busy), indeed a bit confused, but pleasant and helpful. The room was noisy--in part because all surfaces are hard, including chair seats. Nevertheless, this was our first experience with Bushido (which means the way of the warrior) and we will return to try other dishes."
Dined on 1/18/2014
The chef is responsive to request
and made me a wonderful uni creation. I also love it that they follow the Sustainable Seafood recommendations as much as possible. Also try the Okonomyiaki. I tried it the first time in Japan and it is not so easy to find on the menu. Although prepared in the kitchen (no hot table plate) and brought to the table ready to eat, it is still very good."

3rd time at Bushido (1st time with
new sweetie), and it was fantastic as always! Outstanding izakaya (Japanese 'pub" cuisine)) in a lovely restauarant with superb service. Service could not be better, and the food is divine (some dishes reminiscent of Nobu Matsihitsu!). The miso-marinated cod is exquisite melt-in-your mouth buttery goodness, the yakitori tongue is to die for, and the seafood Okonomiyaki (savory pancake) will knock your socks off (I always get the seafood one, but I'm sure the other two are also yummy). Presentation is superb - not just the dishes, but the Hakkaisan sake (delish!) was served in a full glass floating in a full sake box - beautiful, and essentially two servings for the price of one. DEFINITELY returning!"

We tried lots of new things, some
premium sake, the house special pancakes, a couple risottos, delicious pork belly. Great server was very helpful."

A new favorite. Great ramen,
sashimi, desserts are not anything special but otherwise would strongly recommend"
Dined on 12/14/2013
This restaurant was nothing
spectacular, but the food was tasty and the service was good. I'm not sure I would crave this place, but I would visit it again."

We went to Bushido to celebrate
our Dad's birthday. He loves Japanese food and we love drinking so it worked out for everyone. We had reservations for 6:30, but we were super early and they were able to accommodate us immediately. The drinks were amazing and the food can be described as the Japanese version of tapas. It was perfect for the four of us. For our Dad's dessert, they gave us a red bean fondue. It was amazing! Thank you Bushido! We will definitely be back."

Another good experience here. Good
food & service, nice specials and all over great experience. Enjoy ordering around the menu; interesting with excellent quality..."
Dined on 11/23/2013
We had the Bento box which was
good. The tuna sashimi was very fresh."
Dined on 11/19/2013
A great find on Castro Street.
Since changing chefs a year of so ago, sushi has been added. But the grilled items, their original emphasis is still fabulous! They do offer "happy hour" specials, both food and cocktails. Plenty of choice if you enjoy Sake! Try it for a step beyond the usual rolls-welcome to the world of grilling, Japanese style."
Dined on 11/14/2013
It miss this wonderful salad on
the menu, but our server recommended it and it was delicious!"
Dined on 8/27/2013
The menu selection is really
interesting and great to share with a friend or a group. The best is the really smart and engaging staff. Our service was equal to some of the best Bay Area restaurants, attentive but unobtrusive. Our glasses never went empty and the food arrival was amazingly timed, even had the chef come and asked how we liked it and we were no special guests. The only issue is the dark and a bit tired and kind of musty smelling decor and interior. I really think this may be the reason the restaurant is not as full all the time."

Been to Japan 13 times, & was
looking forward to trying Bushido since I moved to MV 3 months ago. I took my 19 yo son, & was blown away! Perfectly prepared Izakaya AKA "Japanese tapas" - AKA Japanese Pub food. Started with lightly seared albacore sashimi (delectable, melt in your mouth with a hint of chile, reminiscent of Nobu), then knock your socks off beef tongue yakitori (my son's new favorite!), miso marinated cod, wild mushroom fried rice, spicy edamame, and fished with 'dessert" of seafood okonomiyaki ((as good as any I've had in Japan), a sizzling pancake stuffed with shrimp & calamari, ramen noodles & egg, drizzled with molasses & aoli with a sprinkle of bonito flakes - heaven! Plated beutifully, great sake, great service - A++"

The food was very creative and
beautifully displayed. Our waitress was adorable. I think when you sit outdoors, there is a bit of a lag in getting food/drinks. It's pretty normal, and it doesn't stop me from wanting to go back."
Dined on 7/6/2013
Very, very slow on a Sunday
evening, but service still a bit spotty. DELICIOUS Japanese food - tender, juicy, tasty. Really perfect food. Enjoyed the ambiance very much. Will return."
Dined on 6/23/2013
Nice selection of cocktails
including a no fuss sake and sochu list. Both the barley & rice sochu were enjoyable. Our dinner consisted of: Gyoza - We've had way better. Wrapper was overcooked and stuffing was crunchy for some reason. Sashimi Daily Special - Presentation & quality were both good with salmon belly our fav Bacon Mochi - Highlight of our meal. Interesting twist on classic mochi with a smooth texture, not too sweet either Beef Tongue in Miso Stew - Surprisingly tasty and was my fav Kimchee Nabe - By far the most disappointing dish. Too large a cabbage to meat ratio Yakitori Sausage & Tsukune (chicken) - both good but 1 order is 2 skewers with 2 pieces; confusing Service attention dipped as more patrons dined."
Dined on 6/16/2013
We got a special treat by the chef
after we realized how fresh and tasty the uni was in the Ozachuke (Green Tea) Soup. He made me sushi pieces with uni and they were delightful. The Green Tea Ice cream is also very good and creamy."
Dined on 6/15/2013
The food is authentic and
delicious. My husband and I have both lived in Japan. When we first went we were to Bushido's we were skeptical and ordered items which would prove the authenticity. We were amazed and have been coming back with friends, recommended it and enjoyed every experience there. Chef is talented, creative and off the charts for his taste, creativity and enthusiasm"

wonderful owner and that reflects in th staff.. Mountain View is so lucky to have such an establishment."
Dined on 5/24/2013
Was visiting PA area with my
boyfriend, it was Mother's Day so most restaurants were booked. I had a conference that ran late so we were keen to eat somewhere nearby but delicious. Bushido had a great menu - seafood and Asian flair (recommend the 3 mushroom fried rice and spicy edamame!). We were lucky enough to score an outside table and our server was kind enough to put the heat lamp on. Overall the service was fantastic and I would definitely recommend eating here!"
