A word from Busalacchi's A Modo Mio
We opened this restaurant in 1986 for Joe to showcase his culinary talents and to have a place for our customers to come to have a fine meal and always feel "at home." We carefully select our staff so that they become a part of our family and then in turn, you do too!

After spending much time in our restaurants, our son Joey decided that he, too, wanted to become a part of them. We feel so confident in his skills that we have now turned the management of Busalacchi's over to him.

Please enjoy your time with us, and if there is anything at all that we can do for you please do not hesitate to ask. We want you to have a memorable dining experience at Busalacchi's.

  • "This was our second visit to Busalacchi's -our first visit a few weeks ago was a spur of the moment stop for dessert, service and food in the main dining room were great (made at another Busalacchi restaurant, Cafe Zucchero in Little Italy, where we have dined 3 times and loved both the food and the welcoming staff). We chose to sit on the patio, and our server made us feel rushed and committed one of the cardinal sins of service-mentioning how busy he was dealing with a large party at another table. Our entrees were excellent, and the patio is a beautiful place to dine. We'll probably give it another try based on our first visit, but the contrast between the service in the main dining room and the patio was pretty glaring ."

  • "We took a friend from out of town here for an early dinner and were rewarded with a beautifully presented and fine-tasting meal, along with service that felt personal and intimate--like we were neighborhood friends. I enjoyed an Italian greyhound, a specialty vodka drink with grapefruit juice, while my companions liked the house chardonnay. We started with the crusty bruschetta, just perfect to the tooth and garlic-aromatic. I had a Caesar salad with anchovies, parmesan, and an oil-and-vinegar dressing, while our guest enjoyed a kale salad with pine nuts. For entrees, we enjoyed butternut squash, veal limone with mushrooms and capers, and a stuffed pork special. We shared a chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting for dessert. Fabulous!"

  • "We came to celebrate my birthday mid-week, so the place wasn't super busy. The waiter was friendly, but a bit slow. I was drinking martinis, and twice I watched while the bartender poured my drink and it sat on the bar getting warm for ten minutes before the waiter brought it to our table. However, the food was good and the other staff were pretty attentive, so overall it was a pleasant experience."

Waiter Oscar was fantastic as were all of our selections. 3 Had the lasagna with 4 cheeses & spicy sausage & all raved but my wife confessed, the lasagna that's made with short ribs is even better. 2 Veal orders were wonderful as was the Short Rib order from #6. I stuck with my favorite - Spaghettini Granchio. Incredible! At half-price, the Bruschetta & the Costatine apps were wonderful. Salads were nicely chilled but the Hearts of Romaine were old & limp. We shared 2 "Lava" cakes.....very chocolatety...but far from "lava" warm....they were actually cold which was disappointing. - John & Beth"

  • "This is the new location for a well-known restaurant in the Hillcrest area. Great outdoor seating area and wonderful service. Food is not your regular Italian fare, but very reasonably priced. Started with flatbread with carmelized onions, blue cheese and panchetta with a drizzle of olive oil that was gently toasted. Wonderful!!! My husband had his favorite, Spaghetti Carbonara and was not disappointed. I had the nicely spiced Spaghettini Granchio, crab pasta served with a brandy saffron cream and topped with a crunchy fried soft-shell crab. So very good!! Finished with a expresso mousse cake that was equally as good. Wait staff is exceptional. Near the end of our early dinner, a soft jazz trio arrived. A wonderful evening!!"

  • "Impressive service! We had 5:30 reservations, it was raining heavily so we were a bit late, I mentioned that we needed to be at a local event by 7 they said no problem. Our waiter kept a good eye for our progress and brought our selections promptly, but without rushing us or being obtrusive. The Carbonara was delicious! The tiramisu was moist and rich but not heavy, even had time for coffee. Truly a great experience!"

  • "Even though we had reservations, we were seated in a table in the middle of the room, in an awkward spot. The moment we sat down, we were asked for our drink order, before we even had a chance to look at the drink menu. We eventually placed our salad and dinner order, and our server seemed as if he was listening to what we were saying, as he appeared to be writing something down. Our entrées arrived and we were perplexed, as we had all ordered salads to precede our dinners. We asked our server, and he exclaimed that 'he had not even written any salads down'. As a concession, he offered to pay for our desserts. Perhaps they were having an off night; Busalacchi's has a great patio space and they have live music on Friday and Saturdays."

  • "We hadn't been to Bussalacchi's for years and when we wanted to take some friends out, we decided to revisit the restaurant. We made reservations for 6:00 and when we were unable to get there by that time, a call to the restaurant to see if we could get in a little later, they were very accommodating and took care of our needs. Not a long once we arrived and our server was exceptional. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We all enjoyed delicious meals. I would certainly recommend Bussalacchi's Mio Modo to anyone, it is a great place to dine."

  • "looking for a place in the hillcrest area and saw this on open table. Have always wanted to try it and now i'm sad i haven't gone earlier. We able to get a table later in the evening, the service was great and all of us had clean plates. The portion size was perfect and i love when a restaurant is capable of doing that so you can share apps, have an entree, and then still enjoy dessert. I also loved how they followed up via telephone to see if our dining experience was good. I thought that was really following through. will be back!"

  • "This was our 1st visit and we were pleased we chose Busalacchi's for dinner. (Monday night) We absolutely loved the Lobster Bisque- rich, creamy and LOBSTER! We also loved the Bruschetta for an appetizer- the bread it was served on was "oh so yummy". Suggestions- Happy Hour menu should give discount on hard liquor as well as wine. When family w/small children come in later- you should not seat them next to an adult couple having dinner when there are plenty of other tables... (we love children but had come for a romantic dinner experience) Thank you again"

  • "Dined with 4 other friends and were sat in a private room right off the patio....it was perfect intimate room for our group. The restaurant has happy hour specials throughout the week. Thursday, we happened upon 1/2 off glasses of wine all night and were pleased with the quality of the wines offered by the glass. Dinner consisted of beef carpaccio - seems to a have needed a tad more acid and fat to balance it out, Caesar salad with white anchovies (love white anchovies), lobster bisque was pretty good, braised short ribs were flavorful and tender. We would order all these items again with the exception of the carpaccio....just a personal preference on that one. Quality of the the ingredients was evident. Will definitely be back."

  • "We both have the same dish it was veal Parmesan extremely paper thin slices of veal extremely dry tasting a thin strip in center of Parmesan and sauce on it way too thin piece of meat way over cooked the worse we both ever had. The chef does not know how to make this dish properly I suggest he goes to good Italian restaurants and gets some tips. Waste of $ the cannoli was the size of my tiny pinky. Would not go back"

  • "I went to this place because of a BOGO coupon I found in one of the San Diego booklets. I ordered the ribs with risotto, which was flavorful at times and bland at others. My date ordered the veal, which he seemed to like, but left the gnocci, since he said there was no flavor. I will say that the people next to use ordered the chick and the steak, both of them cleaned their plates, so maybe we just ordered wrong. The wine menu was nice. The best thing about this place is the location. It is a little dark inside, but if you are looking for something romantic and lively, your best bet is to request outdoor seating. They have individual table heaters, so you are never cold and each table is lit by candle light. Very romantic."

  • "Went to Busalacchi's A Modo Mio for lunch. There were a couple of tables in the restaurant, so it wasn't busy. The restaurant was out of the wine we ordered. The Caesar salad was the only high point: tangy dressing, crisp lettuces, delicious. The two mains were thoroughly unmemorable: lobster ravioli special was unmemorable, the Granchio had a generous portion of Dungeness crab but was otherwise bland. It was a surprise that two pasta dishes with such potential could fail so spectacularly. We won't be returning."

  • "This was our second time to Busalacchi's; first time at the new location. The first time we were surprised by the quality of food, the excellent service and the ambience. This time the food was poorly prepared and lacked presentation. The pasta and fish did not smell fresh and the lobster bisque was over salted. Adding to this, was a poorly managed staff that was more interested in each other and their friends than the customer. This lack of attention was further demonstrated by mistakes made with orders. I saw three go out with the wrong food, ours was one of them. I got the impression from the staffs' reaction that this happens often. Long story short, we left disappointed with the food and the quality of service."
