  • "These guys were great. We were greeted by the Hostess, while waiting for our we went to the rooftop bar and enjoyed our drinks and the knowledgeable bartender. We told the Hostess it was our 25th, and from there we were really taken care of. From the Hostess to the Owner, everyone really took great care of us, including the pastry chef for our desert. (fabulous personalized dessert tray) We definitely recommend Burwell's, next time we are in Charleston, we'll go back. Thank you!"

  • "We came here on Friday night and had a wonderful evening. Four of us ordered steak and we were very impressed with the way it was prepared and the quality of the cuts. Our sides and desserts were delicious as well. The server, Alan was friendly and attentive. We highly recommend Burwells!"

  • "My filet mignon had a fatty texture. I expected better from this restaurant."

  • "Four of us had one of the best meals ever. Small filet and lobster tail is just right for the average appetite after the fabulous Deviled Eggs. Others had Scallops and Salmon. Ask for David for you waiter and you will not be disappointed in his service and personality."

  • "Had the Deckle, which is listed as an appetizer, as my meal. It is served raw and you cook it on a 700 degree stone. Very flavorful piece of meat and you cook it how you want it. There is 7oz of meat so with a side and a salad made for a great meal. My Wife and Son had the Filet cooked medium rare. The filet was heavily smoked and tasted more like a brisket, they prefer a more traditionally cooked Filtet. I would highly recommend the Candy Rock (Deckle) as your meat and the Brussel Sprouts as your side."

  • "this was recommended to us by friends that have a daughter at College of Charleston - solid, creative menu; very good wine list; excellent service; great ambiance. Would have liked to have been able to check out the rooftop bar but rainy night prevented that - would highly recommend"

  • "If you haven't tried Burwell's, you are missing out! Everything we ordered was delicious. The wait staff was second to none, and the owner was sure to make contact to ensure the experience was 5 star. The food was priced reasonably especially compared to those similar to it in close proximity!"

  • "Food was amazing cooked wonderfully and the plating was breathtaking. Loved the stone taste on the meats. The ambience is wonderful, an old house converted, very intimate, the detail was great. Just had an overall wonderful experience and was well worth every penny! Would go back again!"

  • "Great food , good service you will not be disappointed."

  • "The restaurant was very overpriced and the quality of the "best" steaks were all very chewy. While the server knew her stuff the speed of service could have been better, particularly as we had an early booking."

  • "For a place known for the steaks, the steaks were a let down. Not bad, just not great. We were told a steak knife wasn't necessary because they were so tender. However, we found the steaks to be tough. The salads and sides were very good. If the steaks had lived up to the hype, it would have been an outstanding dining experience. The only reason I rated this place a 3 is due to the steaks. All other food was a 5. Service was very good. We found our waiter Alan to be very friendly and made some great suggestions."

  • "We ordered the crab cake to start and it was excellent. Full of crab and not all breading. I ordered the filet mignon and you could cut it with a bread knife. Delicious. My husband ordered the salmon and said it was excellent. Our server Amanda was amazing. She helped us navigate through the menu with suggestions etc.. Our only negative was the noise level. We were seated in a small room with several large parties and the more drinks they had the louder they got. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends. On site valet parking was a plus for $4.00."

  • "I had reserved the special anniversary table for my finances birthday. When we got there we were not sat at the anniversary table because another couple was sitting there. That was the first disappointment. The apps were okay but our surf and turf was not up to par. Both of our steak were cooked wrong and the lobster was chewy. Next time I will just go to Halls."

  • "I took my mom here when she was in town & everything was delicious! Her steak came out a little under-cooked for her liking (she likes it pretty much like boot leather haha) & we sent it back to cook more. It wasn't a big deal to us since we know most people don't like it that done. The owner came over later to apologize & make sure all was okay. Again, we assured him we were perfectly fine & all the food was amazing. The most surprising aspect of all this is that I received a voicemail a couple of days later to follow up on everything from our dinner. That to me says a lot about their level of service. I had already known that I would be back as I always have a great meal there, but taking the time to reach out like that sealed the deal."

  • "My husband and I had visited Burwell's about 6 months ago and had a great dining experience at that time. So, when we visited Charleston again, I wanted to go back...They have great food, very good service and a fantastic atmosphere. We each had steak and they were delish. Just the right amount of food..."

  • "We tried this place after reading good things about it, but our server, Taylor B., was the only thing I'd rave about. The food seemed overpriced compared to other meals in Charleston, and the filet was not anywhere near the best we've had. Entrees, apps, 2 drinks each, and 1 ice cream and the meal came to $170 before tip for 2 people. For that price I would expect one of the best meals I've had, and it was not."

  • "There are 3 or 4 big "steak houses" in Charleston, but for the value, location and most of all taste; Burwell's is the best! This was my third trip there in the past year and they seem to get better every time. The apps are wonderful and that cheese plate of theirs is just awesome. All of the steak options are worth trying. The sea food options aren't plentiful, but there are a few to choose from. The scallops stood out as super tasty though. If you're looking for a romantic dinner or a family get together, give Burwell's a shot. I love it and have had several friends say the same."

  • "We were there for our anniversary and everything was impeccable, from drinks in the bar before dinner to our surprise complementary dessert. My husband said it was the best steak he had ever eaten and he's eaten a lot of steaks! My salmon was delicious as well, our salads were crisp and fresh and the chocolate mousse was heavenly. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Just went Friday night. Did the bar and then dinner. Bar service was great with specials and piano. Dinner was disappointing. Food was flat. Hanger steak was prepared well but surf and turf should be skipped. All sides (several veggie offerings) were tasteless. Filet in surf n turf had no flavor. Our server never checked on us from after our order till delivery of a desert menu, I poured wine. Looks like a tourist driven business to me. We like to give them another shot, but it will be tough with Hall's, SNOB, High Cotton, etc around."

  • "So I ordered a salad and deviled eggs and the filet on the rocks which is about 5 oz of meat cooked in front of you on a hot lava stone which was great!!!! It was just the right portion . Food was great and I will definitely be back."

  • "My wife, daughter and I enjoyed our visit to Burwell's last Sunday. Caroline - our waitress - was superb. She was very attentive, but let us enjoy being in the restaurant at the same time. She knew the bar brands (especially the Bourbon). The steaks were perfect! We will be back."

  • "Burwell's Stone Fire Grill had good ambiance but we felt the food was overpriced, especially with mostly ala carte menu. Also the wait for our food was way longer than should have been and when our main course arrived, my food was hot but my husband's steak/lobster was just lukewarm. Felt like it had been sitting out too long. Our waiter was very good; so service from waiters was not a problem, just the overly-long wait for the food."

  • "Didn't even know it was there, until walking S. Market to get to Fleet Landing two weeks ago and just spotted it; incredible food (heavy on the meat offerings at the expense of seafood or pasta, however), with steak that literally melted in your mouth; salmon was excellent too. Super attentive and prompt staff. I knew we were in for a treat when we came through the front door, to discover a live pianist playing for the dinner crowd...subtle but pleasing. We dine out every other Saturday in the The Holy City trying never to repeat a restaurant, but we will make an exception for Burwell's. Like Arnold S., "we'll be baaack!". The owner came by each table, occasionally checking on tables. I hope he is reading this,"

  • "We were able to enjoy a wonderful meal with amazing service! We had family in and decided to all have a new experience at Burwells. Needless to say this will not be the last visit! My filet was fantastic along with the sides of asparagus and macaroni!! Luckily my husband and I are locals so we will have many more opportunities to enjoy!"

  • "The ambience was nice and the music gave a great upbeat feel. Our server Amanda was great, and the food was very good. Not the very best steak I have ever had but definitely in the top 3-5. What I loved the most was the freshness of the Lobster, not many restaurants can replicate the freshness of eating a Maine Lobster on a Portland Dock (as we have experienced). We felt like we were back on the pier - the lobster was sweet and succulent , in a time where restaurants serve frozen lobsters that have fishy smell and taste to them. I'm sure we will return - but with all the great restaurants downtown it may be a while."

  • "Had drinks on the roof top bar, which was on the second story and had great breeze but minimal view of much. We didn't mind though, the GM, Dave and the bartender were friendly and we felt like family by the end. The menu posted on open table is not the one they are serving. I was liking the pork bellies and scallops only to find they weren't serving it! We had the hangar steak and split the dinner. Nice seating, spacious enough we couldn't hear other conversations. Excellent restaurant!"

  • "No complaints at all. Food was spectacular, the only thing better was the service. This will give the other Charleston Steakhouses a run for their money!"

  • "My wife and I ate here for our one year anniversary. I made the reservation online and asked for a "nice" table if they could accommodate us. They gave us the most unique, quaint table for two upstairs overlooking the outside and we loved it. I had the bone-in ribeye and my wife had the filet. Both meals were great, but the sizzling steak appetizer was even better. I highly recommend. Actually I recommend everything about this restaurant, from the super friendly hostess, to the great bar staff who were full of suggestions and all the great food. We will definitely come back."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant. The parking was convenient and the food was great. Unfortuantely, we felt very "rushed" by the wait-staff to eat and move on. We ahve since returned and the "rushed out" atmosphere has been resolved. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends."

  • "have been to Burwell's on several occasions since their opening night. this was not one of their better moments. brought party of 5 for BD celebration. first table sitting was next to the kitchen entrance. requested another table. sat at that table for 12 minutes before we were acknowledged. multiple workers passed by, including the water server who looked at the table-empty glasses- and went on to others. server was nice, but mixed up several orders including switched entrees. just not a good night."

  • "Why have we not been here before!!! Burwells is a wonderful place to dine - we had drinks at the rooftop bar - good view of the water - not so much of the dumpsters next door - might want to build them a storage unit. Our server was very friendly and funny - she guided us through the menu - told us what to expect from each steak - and advised us that the sides were made for sharing. We gad 3 hungry CofC seniors with us - they all loved their she-crab soup - All men ordered the strip steak - I opted for the hanger steak - which was the perfect size and was perfectly cooked - just thinking about it is making me hungry! I ordered the wine/blue cheese sauce to go with it - again - excellent. Making reservations for Graduation Week in May!"

  • "This was a last minute dinner reservation in the historic district of Charleston. It is often difficult to find last minute dining and this place fit the bill with great food and service. We enjoyed our filets and I highly recommend the exotic mushrooms. Don't hesitate to select this restaurant."

  • "Based on the Travel Advisor I came to this restaurant and was lucky enough to be assisted and served by Amanda. T They sat us promptly, as we had arrived earlier than expected but they had no issues having us seated. The food was original, tasty and fun. You are able to order the Hot Rock and cook the steak and dip the steak. Very cool - husband loved it too. Owner came over for a short chat and was pleasant. This place was way better than Cru Cafe. Make your reservations though. Master Traveler/Travel Advisor"

  • "Burwell's was excellent. Outstanding food, wonderful friendly service (Allan is a great server and loves to talk) , and great atmosphere. Prior to Burwell's, I thought Grill 225 was the best place for steak. The steak at Burwell's is the same quality, but the atmosphere and service are much lower key and friendlier. The strip steaks were the choice at our table. We started with the deviled eggs - best I have ever had - and the hot stone flight of favors steak tips you cooked at the table. My favorite sauce was the port wine Gorgonzola. Nothing not to like. Also has a good wine list. Highly recommend the Banshee Pinot Noir. We will go back."

  • "We were looking for a quick meal at the least minute. They were not crowded so we were able to walk in and sit immediately. Even though we went for dinner, it was probably more suited for lunch. Younger college crowd populated one half of the diners. Food and service were good and met expectations. My wife had the hamburger, which was very good. I had the surf and turf which was tasty, but a little too rich with spices for my palette. We skipped dessert, but they looked good."

  • "in my wife's steak, it was good. They did pick up ONE dessert on the house. We were expecting my wife's steak (grill brush piece and all) to be picked up....but I guess they did not think it was that big an issue! Not the waitresses fault....she was fine...it was the management or lack thereof."
