  • "As my business travels take me to San Luis Obispo, Buona Tavola is a must dine. Request seating in the courtyard, even on a cool night the heaters keep you warm. A couple of starter recommendations are the bruschetta (get it half traditional tomato and half mushroom) and the daily salad is always unique. For the entree the veal marsala never disappoints. Top the meal off with the custard dessert, also get it half topped with chocolate and half topped with carmel."

  • "Great restaurant, everything was good. We sat on the outdoor patio it was a little chilly outside but the heaters made it really nice. Had a mother daughter dinner after going to the Cal Poly open house. This place made it such a special memorable weekend, all our food choices were great from the brushetta to the desert. In fact we were so impresed with everything we though we had to order desert just to see how good that would be and it was wonderful. We will come here everytime we visit her at Cal Poly and she thought this will be her special date night place."

  • "Sat on the covered patio which was heated...very nice! Nice wine selection both by the glass and bottle. The menu had a spread of choices for all and was really tasty! Filet mignon was tremendous! Chicken sausage pasta was very solid. Caprese salad was good but with a twist and the mussels and clams were terrific! Service seemed a little off though, but based on our observation, it may have just been out particular server. She was very nice, but seemed a little slow even on a slow night."

  • "I hesitate to tell too many people about this place in fear of it becoming too crowded. The food is authentic and uinique for upscale Italian. We live in the Bay Area and travel to San Diego to see our son at UCSD. We always schedule our departure to coincide with arrival in SLO for lunch or dinner. We've been there at least 10 times and have never been anything but amazed. They also make cured meats (sausages, etc.) that are wonderful and make great gifts. Relatives from Spain found the meats to be of high quality and very flavorful. They would know coming from Barcelona, a food mecca. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The staff was very friendly and the service was not bad. We came on Valentine's Day so it was a little hectic. The food was a bit slow in coming out, but that's to be expected on a holiday. I gave the ambiance a four star because their covered patio seating was a bit cold. We had to ask to have the heat lamps turned on. Otherwise, the food was delicious from salads to dessert. I would highly recommended this place for couples."

  • "The food was delicious! I took my boyfriend for his birthday and we both had a great time. We had the monthly fixed menu with wine pairings and it was delightful. We sat outside where there were heated lamps, twinkling lights, and a fountain. It was very warm however. The service was close to perfection and the tiramisu is a MUST GET. Oh my goodness that tiramisu. Overall, a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back."

We had kids at our table and nothing was brought to the table -- not even bread-- until we had been sitting there for an HOUR. This was very hard for the kids. I would not call this place kid-friendly. It's a great place with great food but you must have time and be patient. Our whole dinner took 3 hours. Yes, 3 hours."

  • "We love the food here and got in on a 3 courses for $30 restaurant month meal. Wine pairings added another $15. The patio was pleasant. However, the front dining room is crowded and the hallway to the patio is narrow and congested with staff, as it is the only way from the kitchen; the bathrooms are also along the corridor. The ambience at the Paso Robles restaurant is much nicer, and the food and service are just as good."

  • "suggested by a friend as best restaurant in the area. small dining area in front with larger outdoor but covered area in back with heaters all around. top was open and able to see the sky. excellent service and food. antipasta meats were made by the chef and nephew. portions of salads were easily shared by two. the beef salad could have been ordered as an entrée. desserts were also easily sharable and were good. lobster ravioli was very flavorful. with so many wineries close by, brought bottle in- corkage fee$16.they didn't mind at all."

  • "Went because the Restaurant Month menu looked good, and between the two of us, we had each item. Mozzerella and tomato salad was quite poor - grainy cheese and a tomato which had been through the de-flavorizer. Orrecciete pasta was really mediocre - liquidy sauce and store-bought chicken sausages which were not browned. The other pasta, with butternut squash, was fine. Beef secondi was tasty; eggplant "timball" was not a timball and again had the liquidy sauce. Far below the restuarant's usual standard - and on a Friday night!"

This time I had the Prix Fixe menu - my appetizer was a baked cheese and pancetta dish not on the regular menu and it was great. The Tortelloni di zucca was the best version of this dish I have ever had."

  • "My wife and I watch a lot of Food Network shows and are blessed twice a year by my wife's boss who treats us to the finest restaurants in the Monterey Bay area with an unspoken rule that nothing is off limits because of price. Therefore, we're 'unsnobbishly' discriminating when it comes to restaurants and fine dining. That said, we had a great experience all around with our visit to Buona Tavola. We were warmly greeted, promptly seated, and like royalty treated. (wow...did I say that?!) And the food was DELICIOUS! Of the 4 of us, the only complaint was that the shrimp in the seafood pasta special 2 of us had was a tad overcooked."
