A word from Buona Tavola - Paso Robles
For over 18 years Antonio Varia has been delighting the palates of the Central Coast with his inventive yet traditional Northern Italian cuisine. Using only the freshest local and imported ingredients, Buona Tavola offers a romantic garden setting to enjoy fine dining lunch and dinner. The esteemed Zagat Survey gave Buona Tavola the highest ratings of any restaurant in the county, calling it "Superb dining with great wine in a charming setting... one of the best between Los Angeles and San Francisco." The loyal staff at Buona Tavola still consists of more than a handful of the original opening crew, and as you walk through the front door you truly become a part of the family. The skill that comes with hard-won years of experience and the area's freshest seasonal ingredients are apparent in every dish served. Plus the main ingredient comes from Antonio himself: "I cook with love!"Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to your restaurant to try the food to see if you might cater a wedding rehearsal dinner on September 26, 2014 at Hammersky Vineyards. If you would be interested in doing this please contact us. The menu would be Spaghetti, Sausage, meatballs with a marinara sauce, eggplant parmesan, garlic bread, green salad & anti pasta salad, bruschetta and a desert. Cathy & Frank Giordano 661-297-3467"

  • "Buona Tavola was great about accommodating our group of 5 which turned into 7 during the salad course. The meals were excellent."

  • "This was our first time to eat here, all tho we have been coming to Paso for over 25 years. Don't know how this happened! Anyway, Buona Tavola is a top restaurant and I hate to recommend it as it will just continue to get busier and busier. Service was perfect and everything we ordered was wonderful. We ordered the special salad of the evening which consisted of grapefruit segments, kalmata olives, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese with greens. My husband had tortellini stuffed with veal and mushrooms. He said it was the best tortellini he had ever had anywhere. I had salmon which was equally wonderful. They are happy to substitute veggies for starch if you do not want the starch. Enjoy...it is wonderful."

  • "We liked Buona Tavola so well, we ate there twice in three nights on our recent trip. The only downside was table noise coming from a nearby table with a group of 6 or 8 people. Think they had a little too much wine."

  • "We've now been to both Buona Tavola locations .. and neither disappoint. Paso is a much smaller venue but no less effective however the lack of a great back patio like SLO offers was missed especially with the warm Paso nights. Food was excellent as always and the service was the highlight.. friendly, fast and well annunciated! Our only complaint was a $2.75 split charge when we ordered a prawn & scallop salad and mentioned we were going to share it and it was brought on 2 plates with the unmentioned charge attached to our bill. Would have been nice to have been asked if we preferred (as we commonly share off of one plate) or warned of the heavy extra on an already pricey $15.50 appetizer. other than that Buon appetito ~ molto bene!"

  • "Four of us had a great dinner. Food was the highlight. We each loved our entree. Appetizer was also very good. Service a bit uneven (our server spent an inordinate amount of time chatting up a few tables.) Wine list featured a number of Central Coast wineries, which we liked, as that was our reason for being in Paso. Surprisingly good, we'll go back."

  • "We are locals and visit this restaurant fairly often. The food and service are generally very good. Only problem is the place is noisy, so it can be hard to have a conversation at a normal voice level. So I'd say it's a place to visit when you're in the mood for a livelier atmosphere, but not so great for a business dinner or a date night where you're looking for quiet conversation."

  • "The acoustics in the restaurant are not great. I found it difficult at times to hear the waiter explain the specials and I found it difficult to hear my spouse sitting across from me. The food was exceptional!"

  • "Had to wait 15 minutes to be waited on. 15 minutes to order food after being served a beverage would be acceptable, but we waited 15 minutes to have a waiter first ask us what we wanted to drink. Food was very good."

  • "Extra busy the night before Valentine's. Service was slow and we thought we were forgotten for a while; waiter appropriately apologized, but attitude was overly friendly and somewhat patronizing. Food was good, as usual. Wine was unexceptional, especially for the price (white not fully chilled)."

  • "The experience was good but not as good as the previous two visits. The room was really noisy but the food was GREAT. The food price was fair. The service was a little slow and getting a waiter was a challenge a couple times. The dining area is long and skinny, so most of the "tables for two" leave one person with their back to rest of the room. The noise was so high we couldn't have a conversation during dinner so I sat staring at the wall most of the evening. I suggest you take your own bottle of wine. The wine list has several Italian wines but many are unknown and priced higher than they should be based on the quality. If the night temps are slightly chilly, don't sit near the door, It always breezy. Go for the food.......nothing else."

  • "We had a lovely dinner at. Buena Tavola... Be sure to try the tortellini with pumpkin! We make sure we visit every time we visit Paso Robles."

  • "Like their sister restaurant in San Luis Obispo, the food and service was outstanding"

  • "The pasta was some of the best outside Italy. One glitch was that we were never served the bruschetta we ordered. Restaurants are hard enough businesses as it is without missing out on revenue like that."

  • "The food was nothing special.Pasta good but sauce much too rich. Halibut mushy and dry, spinach stringy ."

  • "This is the seventh year that my husband and I have been going to Paso Robles. Buona Tavola is one of the best restaurants in the area! We always dine here, and have always had a wonderful meal and a great overall experience."

  • "We met friends in Paso for wine tasting & found this venue on line. Two of us had delicious veal while the other two in our party had salmon & shellfish. All were excellent. Or waiter, Ryan was fun & knowledgeable !! What a great place!! We will eat there every time we are on the central coast!!"

  • "We have eaten here several times and always experienced excellent food with great service. We will be back in the near future. However, I was hopping to purchase your salami but was told I could purchase it at the farmers market in Templeton and I will. Thank you for a fine evening as we were celebrating our 57th anniversary and enjoyed every minute."

  • "Our meals were delicious (grilled salmon, pasta dish for my husband), and the ambiance was wonderful -- intimate and inviting setting."

  • "We really enjoyed the food in particular Buono Tavolo. We each had pasta - one a papperdelle plate, the other house-made ravioli. Both were excellent. The ravioli in particular stood out as the pasta was delicate, allowing the lamb inside to stand out. To often I find ravioli is too thick, hiding the goodness inside. In a word the food was awesome. Half price wine night on Wednesday always puts me in a good mood too!"

  • "A real gem in Paso Robles (and San Luis Obispo). You won't find your typical Lasagna and Fettuccine Alfredo on this Northern Italian restaurant's menu. Instead you'll be treated to regional Italian like you've likely never had."

  • "Exceptional bar service, attentive staff casual and pleasant atmosphere."

  • "Fairly standard italian food offerings but very good. The pasta and everything are hand made locally and it shows. I was there at 7PM on a weekend and it was quite crowded and fairly loud, but the experience was still good and the service was very professional."

  • "Soup of the day was lentil, celery, carrot. Very tasty. Tortellini buffalo excellent if you like rich food. Fettuccine misti was too big a portion and became a bit bland at the end. Shrimp/saffron dish is now my daughters favorite. For dessert chocolate souffle, lady fingers, and crime caramel all good. The cab by the glass was better than the Syrah . For a busy Friday night service was very good waitress knew every dish and a long list of specials. Overall excellent. We will return."

  • "We had an exceptional experience. They were ready for us when we arrived, Service and servers were great, food was terrific. Even with a large noisy group in attendance at the time, it gave the place a homey feel. Other patrons were very friendly and congenial. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "Filet minon special was outstanding. As always, ordered the Tortelloni de Zucca as an appetizer and it was absolute heaven!"
    Dined on 12/28/2013
  • "The Tortelloni di Zucca is phenomenal! My husband & I always order it as an appetizer as it is very rich but definitely a must have. I almost always get whatever the fish on special is and have never been disappointed, whether it is fresh halibut or wild salmon & it is always delicious. Excellent desserts as well. One of our favorite restaurants."

  • "We ate on Sunday evening and had a very enjoyable evening. The server was knowledgeable and friendly, good descriptions of the specials. The menu is quite long and lots of specials so it was hard to decide. We both enjoyed our (pasta) entrees, and I had so much that I took home a substantial amount for lunch the next day. We would definitely go back, and would recommend."

  • "We love this little place! It does get a bit noisy, especially if a big group is in, so if you are looking for a quiet romantic spot this isn't it. But it is fun, the food is fabulous and portions are generous. The wait staff is attentive, and when one member of our party didn't care for their specialty cocktail (it seems compari is an acquired taste) it was prompt replace with something else. There are always specials, but the menu is so creative and extensive that there is plenty to choose from without them. You can't go wrong, and this little gem is too often overlooked when Paso restaurants are discussed (we live locally)."

  • "The issue I have with this restaurant is that they want you out in 1.5 hours. They won't let you talk and have another drink. When I brought a visiting friend in for dinner, we wanted to enjoy the meal as well as an evening to catch up together. I was told by the manager that they had another reservation and we needed to leave!! Not fun. I was embarrassed."

  • "Great place. The menu was diverse, the tables were full, and the food and wine were wonderful."
    Dined on 10/16/2013
  • "Kitchen seems incapable of understanding what a low fat, no salt order means. Had to send the entree back when a load of butter was used on a dish ordered with no butter or salt. Wait staff not particularly friendly, either. Smiling at customers should not be a burden. Seems anything out of the ordinary is deemed a problem. Not one of us finished our entree pasta because the noodles were overcooked and the shrimp rubbery. This used to be a great restaurant. Don't know what happened. Really low customer satisfaction on this one."

  • "The food was great and they had a great wine list. The decor in this small place is contemporary and nice, but casual dress was just fine. Our server was a pleasure -- very helpful and friendly overall."
