The waitress seemed to ask everyone else in the place if they were celebrating something special, but never asked if we were and I didn’t want to make a big deal about it, so I didn't say anything. So as far as I know they don't do anything special for your birthday. It was a quaint place and was a nice change from a chain restaurant. The food was wonderful; we both had the veal masala. You get a lot for your money, so you won’t leave hungry. My only complaint was the parking lot. It is super tiny and there is no room to turn around. On this visit, one of us had the lamb and the other had pork with a balsamic sauce. Rafaele, the owner, recommended a wine that was really outstanding. We've dined at Buona Sera many times, and it is always a good experience. This is an Italian restaurant, but not a typical lasagna-and-alfredo place (although their pasta dishes are always good!). You can't go wrong with the salmon, and the tilapia entree is also delicious. We had the walleye cakes for an appetizer, and I had the special of lobster stuffed ravioli. Our server was great, she offered recommendations, visited the table frequently and was very attentive. Overall it was a great experience and I'llb e coming back to bring my husband and introduce him to this gem. Oh, and the tiramsu was superb!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect ItalianI loved going to Buona Sera. I have been to Italy and the whole atmosphere brought me right back to Rome, Venice and Florence. The selection of food is great. I have not been to a place that captures all of Italy in one unique place. The food was fabulous, amazing appetizers and a good selection of wines. Our kids are school-age and they are welcomed and don't feel out of place. They'll make smaller portions of some of the dishes for them. The restaurant ambiance has a quaint feel in a neighborhood setting. It was great the first time, and it was great this time. My wife had the pecan crusted salmon. She loved it. I had a few bites of it and it was mouth-watering. I had the shrimp scampi. It was very delicious, very well seasoned. They have a great tiramisu. She finally came and acknowledged to us she didn't come sooner. Had to ask several times for bread and the last time I asked, she never brought it. She was sweet but not the best waitress. My brother ordered the veal saltimbocca and ate every bit of it. My husband had the penne pasta carbonara the pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was very flavorful, as was the sauce on my filetto gorgonzola. The portions were very generous and the service was friendly and helpful. I wish I could have had a gallon of the seafood chowder. And if you like appetizers, make sure you order the walleye cakes. You get 2 large cakes per order but will want 6 more. If you haven't been there you are missing a very special place. The ambiance gives the feel of a neighborhood place in an Italian village. Menu variety very good. Great place for special occasions.
